Chapter Seven. 

            Looking myself over in the mirror, I slimmed out the black mini I was wearing and tried to fix the ringlets in my hair to look loose instead of tight curls. I was nervous if I can be honest because Jonah said tonight was going to be a special dinner for just the two of us. Even though we’ve been seeing each other for a little over three weeks now I still didn’t know what this meant but a part of me can’t help but think he wants to take it to the next level and give me a title. I wanted that title more than anything because I was falling head over heels for him and I can’t deny that.

            “Woah.” Casey said, closing the door behind her. “Where are you off to?”

            “Dinner with Jonah. He’ll be here any minute but the real question is where have you been?”

            Her cheeks turned a color red I’ve never seen before and my jaw literally almost dropped open because this can only mean one thing. Casey was with a boy and I was hoping it was the one I was thinking of.

            “Please tell me it was Scott!” I shrieked, setting the curling iron down. “Oh my god Casey!”

            “Chill out Reina! Yes, it was Scott. We just hung out for a bit.”

            “If you hung out for a bit you wouldn’t be blushing. What happened?”

            Casey was the type of person who withheld all of her dirty secrets and I knew something happened and luckily for me I was a relentless person so when she just shook her head and wandered over to the bed I followed her and placed my hands on my hips.

            “What happened?” I repeated. “Casey I swear if you don’t-“

            “He kissed me!” She finally said, biting a little on her lip. “That’s it but I don’t really want to talk about it okay? I don’t want to jinx anything so let’s just drop it for now.”

            “Fine.” I sighed, giving in. “Whatever you say but I am so beyond happy for you. Scott’s a great guy.”

            Picking up my black heels, I slipped them onto my feet and applied a finishing touch of red lipstick as I watched Casey look at me in the mirror from the reflection.

            “Speaking of guys, does Justin know you’re going on this date with Jonah?”

            “No and he doesn’t need to. It’s a date with Jonah. We agreed to date around.”

            “Okay but what happens if this thing with you and Jonah becomes something more?”

            “Then I’ll tell Justin we can’t do what we do anymore. I’m not going to have sex with Justin if I’m with Jonah because I’m not a cheater.”

            “Really? You’d choose Jonah over Justin?”

            Then I just turned around and stared at her because for the longest time now she’s criticized me about doing this with Justin and when I finally find a good guy like Jonah she suddenly wants me to choose Justin? I just don’t understand her at times.

            “Aren’t you the one who was telling me to do this with Jonah? Why are you suddenly changing your mind?”

            “I’m not. I still think Jonah’s a better pick but I really thought you might have feelings for Justin somewhere deep down. That sounds stupid but I don’t know. Scott and I were talking about you two earlier and we kind of just thought that maybe you guys would end up together after seeing how you were practically cuddling during the movie a couple weeks ago.”

            “For gods sake Casey. First of all, the only reason I cuddled with him is because I like to mess with him. It’s funny to get him sexually frustrated and he knows that. He knows it’s just a joke. He’s the one that told me in the beginning he didn’t want this to go anywhere between us and I agreed to that as well and also, like I’ve said before, he doesn’t know how to treat a girl. He may be a good fit for someone someday but he’s not right for me. We’re just two different people and eventually we’ll just go our separate ways.”

            I jumped when a knock sounded on the door and Casey just nodded her head in agreement as I went over to answer it, giving Jonah a wide smile when he was holding a flower bouquet. He was perfect.

            “Wow.” He said, scanning me over. “You look stunning Reina.”

            Passing the flowers over to me, I admired them for a moment before I carried them into the bedroom and Casey took them for me before I even had to ask her to.

            “I’ll put them in a vase.” She said. “Don’t worry about it.”

            “Thanks. I’ll be back later, okay?”

            Jonah grabbed my hand without thinking twice about it and when the door to my dorm room closed behind me I leaned up to kiss his cheek.

            “Thank you.” I whispered. “You know, for the flowers. You look amazing too by the way.”

            He really did because he was wearing a pair of black dress pants and a nice button down dress shirt, his hair styled upright in just the right ways. He was gorgeous and I can’t believe he even wants to take me out tonight.

            “When will you understand that you deserve that?” He asked me. “I love treating you nicely Reina and I don’t plan to ever stop.”

            He took me back to Valentino’s where we had our first date but this time we were in a private booth in the back corner so it had more of a romantic vibe. There was a candle lit in the middle of our table and since we were in a booth, he was right next to me as his arm was around my waist. We had just finished dinner and I was starting to wonder if maybe this wasn’t a special dinner of some sort and maybe this was what was special about it and I had just gotten my hopes up but when his fingertips started to rub my side I think my hopes were about to come true.

             “So.” He said. “I’m sure you’re wondering why I brought you back here.”

            “Well I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t but so far this night has been pretty special as it is. I don’t know how it could get much better.”

            Reaching into the pocket of his jacket, he pulled out a jewelry box and opened it for me, a diamond necklace lying peacefully on the blue velvet strip and I could do nothing but stare at it in complete and utter shock. It was in the shape of a diamond heart, the little diamonds incrested around it and he took it out of the box before he instructed me to turn around so he could latch it around my neck. No guy has ever gotten me a necklace before but it meant the entire world to me. He has no idea what he has just done.

            “It is so beautiful.” I whispered after it was securely around my neck. “I don’t think I can ever thank you enough.”

            “Well…” He trailed off, his hands coming around my waist once more. “I can think of one way.”

            And then my heart kind of dropped because I thought my worst fear was coming true. I thought he was going to ask me to have sex with him but that wasn’t what he asked me at all.

            “You could be my girlfriend.” He whispered. “You could make me the happiest guy alive and say yes.”

            I never cry, ever, but I actually got tears in my eyes and I kissed him to let him know what my answer was. I could think of nothing better than to be his girlfriend and after the way he’s treated me he certainly deserved that. I don’t know how I got so lucky to have a guy like him to even be interested in me but I did and he was mine. He was officially mine and I was officially his.

Casey’s Point of View:

            Around eleven at night there was a knock on the door and I was in such a good sleep I never wanted to wake up. If it was Reina she would have just come in because she had a key but maybe she forgot it so I let out a huge sigh, walking tiredly over to the door to open it and was shocked to find Justin there.

             He was holding a bunch of things. It looked like some movies and a laptop and some white cheddar popcorn and I swear my heart kind of dropped into my stomach because he looked behind me and I knew he was looking for Reina. I didn’t want to tell her because it would ruin things for her but Scott told me. Scott told me how well he knows Justin and how much Reina gets to him. I watched it first hand at the bar that night but I still haven’t told her about how upset he got. We all knew but Reina seemed completely clueless to it.

            “Justin.” I said. “What are you doing here?”

            “Hey Casey! I’m just uh, here for Reina. She was telling me the other day about this new movie that came out so I uh, I bought it and I was gonna see if she wanted to watch it with me before I did.”

            I know I said I hated this kid but I didn’t right now. I felt so bad for him because at first I thought he was just using her for sex but to know he actually had feelings for her hurt like hell. He was like an excited little kid on Christmas and his dreams were about to be completely shattered. Why the hell did I have to be the one to wreck them for him?

            “Reina’s not here.” I replied. “But she’ll probably be here soon.”

            “Oh, okay that’s cool. Is she studying or something? I can just go to the library then if she-”

            “She’s with Jonah. He uh, he took her out again tonight.”

            He looked shocked for a second and his expression changed all too quickly. It went from shock to anger to heartbroken and I just stood there as he cleared his throat, the popcorn being clutched in his hand so tightly I swear it would pop at any moment.

            “Oh.” He said. When he looked at me again it was almost like he knew that I knew because he let out a frustrated sigh and closed his eyes for a second. “Look Casey, can you just not tell her I stopped by? I don’t need her to you know; think this meant something that it didn’t because it didn’t. I just thought she’d want to watch it or something.”

            “Of course Justin. I’ll keep it between us.”

            He didn’t say anything after that. He just went to move away from the door until the sound of laughter was heard and by god I knew this would happen. I had a feeling she would be home soon and now she was, my heart stopping for Justin when Jonah’s lips were on hers and he backed her against the wall, his hands running down her waist.

            Justin stood there in shock and he looked at me as if to say, please tell me you can’t see that I’m dying inside.

            “Oh!” Reina giggled, embarrassed that we had both seen her. “Justin, hey! What are you doing here?”

            She eyed the items in his hand skeptically and he looked like he wanted to crawl into a hole or something right now. As much as I resented him before I didn’t anymore because this just made me see how much he really cared about her.

            “Scott wanted me to watch this movie he told me about but he has to get up early for class tomorrow. Justin offered to drop everything off for me. He’s crazy though because he even included popcorn and everything. Thanks for bringing it Justin.”

            I quickly grabbed the items from him and he sent me a grateful smile, nodding his head eagerly to the both of them.

            “Oh my god.” She said. “That is the cutest thing I have ever heard of. If a guy did that for me I’d flipping cry.”

            “Soon enough.” Jonah whispered, kissing her on the cheek. “My girlfriend’s gonna be treated like a queen.”

            My jaw dropped open, Justin’s eyes growing wide and Reina sending a nervous glance over towards Justin now that the news had just dropped. I guess he gave her the title tonight and oh my god I felt like hugging Justin because he looked completely crushed right now.

            “Enjoy the movie.” Justin said to me, completely ignoring Reina. “I’ve got a uh, thing in the morning so I gotta go.”

            He left in a hurry and when Jonah started to kiss her again I just rolled my eyes because Reina didn’t even realize it. She probably thought he was mad because they couldn’t have sex but it was so much more than that and should I tell her? Probably. But that’s something Justin needs to do for himself unfortunately. I can’t do that for him and seeing her be so clueless completely blows my mind. A part of me thinks she’s clueless because she’s in denial that he could actually like her and another part of me thinks she honestly doesn’t like him like that.

            Things like this happen all the time but I never thought Reina would be the kind of girl to do something like this but it was happening because as she was making out with Jonah in the hallway Justin was somewhere on this campus probably completely heartbroken. Maybe there’s a chance that I’m reading too much into things and maybe he honestly is just pissed because they wouldn’t be having sex but why in the hell would he come all the way over to our dorm just to watch a movie with her that she said she wanted to watch? It was such a sweet thought and out of all the times I’ve talked to Justin never once did I think he would ever do something like that for any girl but he was and that girl was Reina. The girl that was starting to change him was Reina and she had no idea.
