Leaving
Bakugou spun around the sharp corner, sweat dripping from his forehead and blinding him. Kirishima was not talking on his communicators, and the smoke filling the air around him began to choke the blonde.
The situation had gone down hill so quickly. He didn't know where he was anymore. He couldn't remember. Although the setting reminded him of Kamino.
He shuddered at the thought and pressed onward. "Red!" He called out, his voice raspy. "Red!"
He heard another explosion go off in a nearby building followed by what could only be civilians screaming.
It was selfish of him that he almost didn't run and help.
Bakugou just needed to find Kirishima. But he decided to trust the idiot he called his boyfriend and tread forward, going to save the civilians. Plus, Kirishima would've killed him if he didn't.
He civilians were trapped in debris, and it sounded like the villain was already inside. Bakugou clenched his jaw and blasted a hole in some of the fallen wall.
Kirishima stood tall, beaten, and proud over a woman and her child while the villain turned to look at Bakugou. Kirishima was in unbreakable mode, but he relaxed when he saw Bakugou.
The blonde threw a kick at the villain, who dodged. Bakugou had overshot and had to turn around to regain his advantage. He spun quickly just in time to see the spear enter Kirishima's chest.
"NO!" He lurched forward for Kirishima, who seemed to go further and further away from his grasp. Tears stained his face as he desperately fought to get to his friend, his soulmate, but he failed.
Failed.
Failed.
Bakugou gasped and woke up with explosions popping out from his hands. Kirishima, who had been peacefully holding onto the blonde, woke with a start and fell off the bed, smacking into the floor with a bang.
"Eijiro!" Bakugou panicked and crawled off the bed, jumping down to the redheads side.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry-" he placed his hand where the spear had entered, looking for the blood or something that needed to be stopped.
Kirishimas hands held onto Bakugous arms. "Hey, hey, I'm okay. I'm okay," he said softly and sat himself up.
Bakugou still had panic shown on his face. His breath was getting shallow and he frantically looked back in forth while tiny crackles were heard from his palms.
Bakugou launched himself at Kirishima, latching onto him tightly, afraid his dream would manifest.
"Don't you ever f*cking leave." Bakugou said into Kirishima's shoulder. "Please," came out quietly.
Kirishima held the blonde tightly. "It's okay. I'm here. I'm here."
***
Bakugou forced Kirishima to stay with him the entire day. Forced may be a strong word, because Kirishima didn't protest, but Bakugou refused to leave his lover's side.
Kirishima needed to do some paper work at the FatGun agency, so Bakugou came in with him like it was no big deal. FatGum knew him well enough, and all the younger heroes were intimidated by Dynamight anyways.
Kirishima held Bakugou's pinky with his own as he looked through the files.
"I just can't figure this PAHS stuff out, Blasty," the red head sighed. "I mean, what's the motive? Why would somebody powerful give quirks to others who may overthrow them?"
Bakugou shifted in his position and looked at all the papers Kirishima had everywhere.
"You're taking the wrong approach." Bakugou thought for a moment. "Did you ever get a bottle of these drugs to test?."
Kirishima cocked his head. "What do you mean?"
"It's important to find out if these quirks are permanent or temporary." Bakugou picked up a report. "As for motive: Level the playing field. Let those who are quirkless get a shot of being treated equally. I also think that the mastermind of the group is quirkless. Or was, rather. They got a taste of the power and decided to give others a taste if they'd join the cause."
Kirishima looked over Bakugous shoulder. "I mean, maybe? But who would want to actually join that group? I mean, Nao is quirkless but she never focused on this stuff."
"Just because your sister is optimistically gross like you doesn't mean everyone is. Sometimes there is no good in people," Bakugou replied bluntly.
"I'll bring it up to FatGum," Kirishima kissed Bakugous forehead. "Hopefully this investigation comes to a close soon." He grabbed a few pieces of paper. "I'll be right back."
Bakugou looked panicked for a moment but Kirishima kissed his forehead once more.
"It's okay. I'll be one floor up, with my phone, surrounded by basically a father figure, flanked by some awesome heroes, and you're in the building. Not to mention that I'm basically indestructible."
Bakugou's dream flashed before his eyes. The spear entering Kirishimas body. His panic when he realized it was his fault. But he kissed Kirishima before he was off, just in case.
Kirishima jogged up the stairs to FatGum's office. The hero had his door open, which the red head took as an invitation to come inside. He gently knocked on the door frame before entering.
"Hey there, Riot!" His boss smiled and set down his pen. "What can I do for you?"
"Hey! So Katsuki-I mean uh, Bakugou, was looking over the cases with me that concerned PAHS. He has some questions about the given quirks being permanent or and was wondering if we could get our hands on some to run tests. He says we should be looking for quirkless people being the ones in charge."
The red head handed his boss the papers he brought up. FatGum studied them over and nodded in thought.
"You got real lucky catching that one. I hope you too start an agency together!" Kirishima blushed at the implication. "His theory makes sense to me. I'll bring it up to the rest of our team."
Kirishima bowed and smiled. "Thanks, sir! I'll take him out on the last patrol of the day if that's alright with you!"
He was dismissed and quickly hopped down the stairs back into his own office. Bakugou was pacing back and forth nervously, his fingers twitched as well.
"Hey, Kat! We got the last afternoon patrol."
Bakugou looked up at the red head.
"Let's head out now! Sooner we get done sooner I can take you to dinner!" The red head flashed his famous smile.
"You're a sap," Bakugou rolled his eyes.
"Hmmmm, but I'm your sap." He kissed Bakugou before putting on his hero costume.
The two reached downtown in a matter of minutes. Kirishima desperately wanted to hold Bakugous hand while they patrolled, out of admiration and also a feeling of safety, but he was nervous about how both the public and Bakugou may react to that.
Kirishima checked in some complexes and stores to make sure nobody had seen anything suspicious and that they felt safe before dusk.
Bakugou still felt nervous. He didn't know what was wrong with himself and was mentally cursing himself out for being so cowardly. Kirishima was incredibly capable and Bakugou viewed him as one of the strongest men ever. But god, he was afraid. The dream messed him up bad. He was just relieved that they could go out to dinner and finally feel like a normal couple.
He must've been lost in his thoughts because the next thing Bakugou knew, Kirishima had shouted one thing at him before tackling the blonde to the ground. Bakugous ears rung, and he couldn't make sense of what was happened.
Kirishima was using his quirk, and he looked at Bakugou with concern all over his face. Bakugou was able to get a glimpse over his boyfriends shoulder to see a group of villains walking towards them, one had a grenade in hand.
One of them had a gun. The gun that looked familiar. One that contained quirk stealing bullets.
"I think we need to postpone that dinner."
