A Break

Bakugou cursed loudly as he shoved some more clothes into a bag before slipping and tripping on one of Kirishima's weights. He cursed loudly again and kicked the weight, surprisingly sending it flying to the other side of the room. He growled as he angrily dialed a familiar phone number and waiting for him to answer.

"Oh, hi kachaan!" The familiar green haired man chirped from the other line.

"Deku, I need a f*cking favor," Bakugou said as he cursed out another inanimate object for getting in his way.

"Okay. How's Kirishima?"

"Sh*tty hair's better, but his dad wants us to come over. So I need you to watch the place for like, a week."

Deku smiled and nodded even though his friend couldn't see. "Of course! Is the spare in its usual spot?" Bakugou grunted as an answer. "I'll check up on it everyday!"

"Tch. Thanks or whatever," Bakugou said as he hung up.

He continued to pack Kirishima's bag. Shorts, tank tops, shirts, and some nice clothes were all the red head needed. Bakugou sighed to himself as he stared at the spare Red Riot costume, tucked safely in a case in the workout room. He cursed some more as he grabbed it, convincing himself that Kirishima would be angry if Bakugou tried to protect him again.

He didn't want him rushing back into battle. Seeing him hurt like this was enough to make Bakugou's heart ache. But of course, there was no stopping his crush when he was determined to do something. Bakugou learned that the hard way. So he promised himself that if any danger were to come, he would take care of it before his friend had time to react.

Bakugou stopped in Kirishima's room and grabbed his charger and sunglasses. He stopped for a moment and looked at the room that he hadn't entered in a month. It still smelt like Kirishima; cologne and hair dye, but it was comforting.

Bakugou snapped himself out of his fantasy and continued to pack. He headed to his own room and neatly folded clothes that he planned to take. He also made sure to grab his hero costume and placed it inside his suitcase.

His mind wandered. Even if he wanted to tell or show Kirishima his affection, the red head was too damn dense to notice anything or take the hint. Bakugou had tried to show his friend his feelings during their third year in UA. He had written a note, slipped it under his door, and waited outside. Kirishima took the note, but when he walked outside he never made the connection between it and the blonde.

And since Bakugou struggled with his emotions, he could never muster up the courage to find another way to show Kirishima. Sometimes he thought he saw Kirishima staring when nobody else was, and he thought he heard Mina telling Sero about how well the two would go together. When Bakugou got drunk around Kirishima, which wasn't often, the feelings he fought so hard to suppress threatened to spill out. Thank god he'd never done something he had regretted.

An alarm on his phone roared, causing the blonde to jump and curse in surprise. He quickly gathered all the bags and left a note for Deku before heading out the door and to the Uber that was waiting for him outside.

***

The car ride was two hours long, and Bakugou fought against sleep, fantasies, and worries throughout the entire time. He gave the driver a quick 'thank you' before grabbing his bags and heading into the apartment complex.

If the blonde's memories served him right, Kirishima was pretty well off in middle and high school. He wasn't as rich as Iida or Momo, but his family made enough money for him to have almost and endless supply of punching bags. Plus, the red head was a hard worker, so he managed to get jobs and pay for any expensive thing he wanted.

However, just shortly after Kirishima, Bakugou, and the rest of their class graduated UA, his father lost his job, and it all went down hill. Kirishima would cry over it and blame himself when he thought his friend wasn't listening. So Bakugou did what he thought was right, and asked his parents if they could spare any money around the holidays to go to the Kirishima family.

He took a deep breath as he stepped into the building and headed up the stairs. He had met Mr. Kirishima maybe once or twice, but they hadn't really spoken. He lugged the bags up the steps and knocked on the door that he knew to be correct, 617.

It took a minute before a familiar red eye poked out of the crack in the door. Then there was that blinding smile that Bakugou loved but would never admit.

"Baku!" Kirishima exclaimed as he opened the door and stepped out of the way.

He was walking now, but not much else had improved. His arms were covered in bandages, and the left one was in a cast. And new scars flittered around his face. There was also a large bandaid on his cheek, and Bakugou frowned at the sight of it.

Bakugou carried all the bags inside, threatening his friend for trying to help. Kirishima lead Bakugou to the small guest room that they would share and insisted on unpacking.

"You can go look around! I won't take too long!" The red head smiled.

Bakugou huffed to himself and walked out into the living room. The apartment was tiny, with just three rooms and a kitchen. Kirishima had told him that one of the rooms doubled as a bedroom for his dad and an office. Bakugou wished he could do more.

He stopped in front of a wall adorned with pictures and smiled slightly to himself. Kirishima's baby pictures, as well as pictures of him when he was older, were scattered across the wall. A young Kirishima with black hair smiled in a park, holding the hand of a girl with brown hair and sparkling silver eyes.

'That must be his sister,' Bakugou thought. He recalled when Hinata Kirishima visited the hospital, and how he had those unmistakable silver eyes. If Kirishima looked almost exactly like his father, than his sister must look exactly like-

"Oh! Those are just some embarrassing family pictures, don't stare," Kirishima urged as a small blush flittered across his face.

"What kind of quirk does your dad have?" Bakugou asked, looking impassively at his friend.

"Hm? He has some sort of rock manipulation quirk. Wherever there's rock, he can move it and make it into different shapes! I think he's basically the reason I got my quirk."

Bakugou nodded but something gnawed at his stomach. He knew it was a forbidden topic, but he was curious. Too curious. About Kirishima's sister and her resemblance to a missing person in the photos. How Kirishima never talked about her, except for telling Bakugou that she wasn't is in life.

"My mom had some sort of shark quirk," Kirishima said quietly, able to read his friend's mind. "She didn't look like a shark like Gang Orca looks like an orca, but she was able to breath underwater and she had gill slits. Dad says she's the reason I've got my pointy teeth," he smiled weakly.

"Kirishima-"

"No, it's okay," the red head sighed. "It's not like I care or miss her."

Bakugou nodded, deciding to drop the subject. He knew Kirishima's mother had left when he was just three and that they hadn't talked since. It wasn't as painful for the red head to talk about as he expect it to be. So, Bakugou drew the conclusion that he had to thank Kirishima's mother for his beautiful red eyes, while cursing her for abandoning a ray of sunshine.

"What about your sister? What's her name again?"

"Oh, Nao? She's quirkless," Kirishima shrugged, then winced at the pain.

Bakugou's heart stopped. Every single time he had insulted Deku came to his mind. His unrelentless taunts. His bullying. His bias. How he viewed those without quirks to be beneath him. And yet he wanted her to be his sister-in-law? After he had insulted people like her for no reason other than his own superiority complex?

"You haven't met her yet, but you're gonna love her!" Kirishima's wide smile pulled Bakugou out of his thoughts.

The first man noticed how the blonde was unnaturally stiff and how he almost looked scared. He tilted his head and stared at his friend.

"Are you nervous about meeting my family?" Kirishima smiled and chuckled. "Don't worry, from what I've said, they already love you!"

Bakugou nodded. "Yeah that's it. Wait, you've told them about me?"

Kirishima smiled and sat down on an old couch. "Of course! You're my best bro!"

Bakugou rolled his eyes and sat down on the ground in front of Kirishima.

'Friends. Just friends.'
