Two Months Later..

                
A glance at the clock showed it was  5 Am and Gauri breathed a sigh of relief ,yet another night was over . Still she went near her child to have a look and found him still asleep as she made her way to the washroom to get ready for the day .

               
As she quickly showered with in five minutes and walked outside she found her sleeping baby was wide awake and her heart shattered to see his arms flaying around and his mouth open to call out for her but Gauri couldn't hear him even if she wished for it a million times .

               
  " Mommy is so so sorry son, " she told her son, as she gathered him into her arms and he stopped crying the moment his hunger was taken care of but for Gauri her tears continued to fall .

                   
All the parents around the world who complains about the noise their child makes when they cry never knew how blessed they were that their child could make a sound to call them unlike her son .

                    
A gentle knock to her door meant Arun was up and ready to take over ,so she opened the door and let him hold Rahul as she went out to cook the breakfast , she didn't want Arun to find she hasn't slept a wink last night or the ten night before that because if he found out he will ask her the reason behind it ,her reason she didn't wish to share with him yet .

                    
Till two weeks ago ,her mother was around to look after her first grandchild which left Gauri sleep through the day and enabled her to stay awake the whole night . But now that she left ,Gauri hadn't been able to manage to sleep during the day. 

                     
  Arun was perfectly capable of looking after their son for few hours in a stretch which she uses to take a nap still the long stretch of being awake were catching up with her and she didn't want to fail her son by sleeping .

                 
In the normal world a child wakes up their parents with a cry and in Gauri world she wakes up her son with her nightmares which meant she  can't trust herself to sleep and since her son can't make a sound ,he can't be let out of sight either.

                  
Gauri never knew there was so many reasons that could cause a child to lose their ability to speak or in her case make a sound as her son was too young to have the ability to speak. And the doctors kind informed her of the various possible reasons but they hadnt given any solution either .

           
" We can run more tests when he grew up a bit ,once we were able to understand the problem we could find the solution if it was possible,  " were the words given to her,   but it wasn't enough for Arun who had been  determined to make the possibility happen sooner .

              
The lack of sleep resulted in an burnt breakfast that she had to start over from scratch when Arun walked inside the kitchen looked at her and demanded that she should leave the cooking to him .

              
She was relieved as he took over and she was happy to hold her son back as he was wide awake now looking at her with rapt attention that her heart swelled with joy.  Fifteen minutes later she was having a decent breakfast with Arun when he spoke up about his next trip .

             
" Since Rahul is young ,it wouldn't be wise to make him travel that far . It will take just a week and it very hard to get an appointment with the specialist ," Arun was speaking,  but her mind were focussed on one fact ,if Arun left it meant no nap time .

              
And it was too much for her to accept as she walked away from the table to her and as if luck her eyes changed upon the baby monitor they brought when Arun took her shopping while she was still pregnant,while she didn't know her son cry will never reach her through the baby monitor .

               
She threw the object on the floor as it is worthless to her ,and promptly burst into tears .

Arun shouldn't have brought the subject before Gauri finished eating , he had been too excited after hearing that the appointment was granted that he had hoped it would make her happy .

       
  But he should have known Gauri doesn't view the world with his same lens , as an inventor who believes in his inventions he believed that there will be a curable solution for their son and it was up to him to find him .

  
        
Yet each time he came home with no results Gauri became more disbelieving about it , he had seen the strain it took on her the last two months raising Rahul and he only wanted to help both of them but he realized him leaving her alone wouldn't have appealed to her  .

           
Rahul slept peacefully in his crib while his parents worried about him constantly . Looking at Rahul was soothing upon his soul and Arun wished that the next trip will pave way to help his son.

            
Arun knew he have to go and console Gauri but she was so used to holding everything close to her heart that it hard to guess what she is upset about unless she confided in him as he made his way to her room ,his feet collided with baby monitor and then his eyes found Gauri crying her heart out .

               
The sound of her cry crushed his heart and when she heard his footsteps she looked  up to him with tears strained face and spoke up making him wonder if there is anything worse than her mother pain for their child .

            
" You can't leave him alone Arun , what if he woke up and cried we can't hear him Arun ,we can't hear his cry even when he desperately called for us ,  " she spoke up,  as she raced out of the room towards her son crib in the hall and only stopped worrying when he found him asleep .

                
" Gauri , I just left him for a minute,  " he told her,  as he walked back to the crib but he knew it doesn't matter in Gauri mind a minute was all that was required because no matter how she wished her child would call out to her for help ,he can't make a sound .

     
             
Back then Arun didn't know her protective instincts resulted in a sleepless nights and she was wearing herself out trying to make sure her son doesn't end up crying for hours while she slept peacefully . Because as always she kept her sacrifices closer to her chest and without knowing them Arun wasn't capable of helping her out not when she wasn't ready to confide in him .
