Chapter 18

Draco was fairly quiet the next day, only just getting his head on straight in time for practice. Harry gave him his space, not wanting to influence his decision one way or the other.

Harry was ecstatic to have finished work early that night, and picked up some dinner before heading to the field to pick up Draco. Knowing he was early, he sat on the bleachers to watch the rest of practice. His eyes followed the ball, and he couldn't help but wince at the bad plays some of the team were making.

"Harry! Did we run late?"

"Oh no, I got off early," he replied distractedly.

"What's wrong?"

"Your midfielders aren't moving with each other, and it's throwing everyone off. Your goalie should also look at the way the players are angling their body to judge which way the ball is being kicked."

"Write any other tips you have down. I'm going to hit the showers quickly, then I'll read them all."

And so Harry sat, reflecting on the practice. When Draco came back, Harry had a page full of notes and diagrams.

"I said notes not a book Harry," Draco joked, taking a seat next to him.

"Your hair is dripping on me, you should've dried it off," Harry replied, wiping the droplets off his shoulder. "You're going to get sick. Again."

"Fine. We'll go over it at home then?"

"Brilliant. Dinner is in the car."

"You should've led with that!"

"But you were so excited, who needs food?"

"We've talked about this Harry, you're not allowed to joke about your trauma like that."

"Of course love, my apologies."

"Damn right your apologies," Draco muttered, opening the passenger door for Harry.

"Oh did I lose my driving privileges then?"

"You do everything else, let me do this one thing for you."

"If you say so."

"I do, and I'm always right darling."

It was when they were eating that Draco suddenly slammed his fork on the table.

"Harry!"

"Don't do that!," Harry coughed out, choking on his food.

"I am so sorry, I just had an idea! I'll get you more water."

Harry glared at Draco, waiting for him to explain.

"I told you that you had to be on the team and that you didn't have to play full time. What if you just made the plays? You could come to a few practices and then you wanted have to play!"

"Draco-"

"Think about it! It could work, it'll help with your tuition massively! Madam Hooch said you could be fully reimbursed, and your future classes could be covered! That could be so amazing for you Harry," Draco gushed.

"I would have to quit one of my jobs."

"Why don't you quit the restaurant one? You can keep your tutoring and keep making videos. You could even tutor more kids if you wanted to then! You wouldn't even have to stay at every single practice the whole time. I need go talk to Madam Hooch about this tomorrow. I think it could work- you still don't want to," Draco ended his rant quietly.

"It feels like a handout."

"You listen to me Potter and you listen good. It's not a handout when you work incredibly hard for it. You have so much on your plate, this could be something fun that you do to help you save money! I'd take you to practice everyday, we could spend more time together, and you could be doing something you love alongside all of that. Your dad used to play didn't he? It might help you feel closer to him.

I'm not trying to pressure you, but I think it could be really good for you. You never do anything for you, you do things for other people. I'm not asking you to do this for me, I'm asking you to do it for yourself. I'm going to talk to Madam Hooch anyway, it's up to you what you decide to do."

"I'll go with you to talk to her."

The next morning, that was exactly what they did.

"Yes, that should be able to work," Madam Hooch confirmed. "Shall I get the paperwork started?"

Draco looked at Harry expectantly, waiting for an answer.

"Yes," he agreed simply.

Letting out a loud cheer, Draco immediately apologized to the adults in the room. McGonagall had a small smile playing at the corners of her mouth.

"We'll revisit your school schedule as appropriate Mr. Potter. Your gym class will be altered so that Madam Hooch can help you with training. You'll attend a set number of practices that will not interfere with your work schedule. I'll need a copy of that as well."

"I might quit one of my jobs and pick up some more tutoring in my building."

"Let me know by the end of the week if you can."

"Thank you."

As soon as they were out in the hallway, Draco threw his arms around Harry.

"You said yes!"

"I did."

"And you're actually going to quit one of your jobs?"

"I think so, yeah. I have to put in my notice if I decide to. Just a lot to think about."

"Take all the time you need."
