Rebel Girls
This dream was about a woman, in kinda the old times so there weren't any phones or cars, except of course those horse cars thingies
'I can't do this' the Bride thought in panic. 'This can't be my life, I can't live like this' she stared at her reflection and frowned. She stared at the big, flowy wedding dress. 'Why me? God, why me..' she bit her lip and curled her hands into fists, shutting her eyes tight to not cry. She took deep breaths and calmed down right before the door bursts open, an over excited elderly woman rushing in, grinning from ear to ear. 'Mother... why?'
"Oh, darling! Look at you, you're stunning! And I'm sure he'll think so too." She tried to reassure. The older woman walked forward and grabbed her daughter's hands. "Come on, the Optare Ceremony is about to begin."
At that, something in the young lady clicked. 'That's it!' she thought, 'The Optare Ceremony is the perfect escape. No one'll see I escaped.' She smiled at the thought. She's gonna be free!
The Optare Ceremony
The Optare Ceremony is done before the wedding to bless and honor the Groom. The ceremony has to be performed in a Clover Ship and everyone attending the wedding must be there, except the Bride. The Groom will be showered in holy water, be given the Sacramental Bread, drink the Blood of Christ, then send flowers to the Virgin Mary on another mini island.
It's a very long ceremony, so she should have enough time to change into another dress and run to the other side of the island where she'll meet with her friend who can get her a ship to sail away. But if someone recognises her, she'll be put in The Fixing House...
Fuck it.
"Yes mother." She smiled shyly and let her mother pull her out the room. The older dame skipped down the hall, her lass following behind.
They stepped out the Church House, walked down the stairs and over to the shore. The Bride hid her discomfort as her heels sank into the sand, twisting her ankles and breaking her skin. Her mother, on the other hand, wore sandals and walked without a care in the world.
When they got to the shore, the guests were already on the ship, waiting for the Groom, the Priest and the parents to get on. The Groom's mother walked towards the Bride and gave her a peck on the cheek, while the father just gave a curt nod. Her mother gave her a hug and got on the ship with a big grin. The Groom smiled and gave her a kiss on the forehead and followed his future mother-in-law.
The Bride watches with a smile as they sailed away, waving at her mother who blew a kiss her way.
As soon as they were out of sight, she took off her heels and ran back to the Church. She rushed into her room and quickly undid the dress, pulling it off with ease. She opened her closet and pulled out the first dress she could reach, it being a long beige gown. After putting it on, she turned to the mirror and quickly undid the complicated hairstyle, letting her long orange hair fall down to her hips.
She opened her window and jumped down, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible. She let out a small squeak when she realized she was higher than she thought, but the flowers and grass saved her fall.
She got up and pulled out a pair of scissors from her bra and chopped off her hair, the curls falling onto the mud. She hid the scissors back in her bra and dirtied her, now shoulder-length, hair with some mud. She walked towards a bird's drinking stone and washed her makeup off.
She climbed the gate that surrounded the church, and ran away when she got back on the floor. After running for an hour, she paused when she reached the busy shopping center (like in Beauty And The Beast when they sing 'Belle').
She pushed herself through the crowd, trying not to get stepped on, seeing that she was barefoot. She was almost at the other side when she bumped into a man, hitting both of their foreheads together. She groaned as she rubbed the sore spot and muttered a small apology, taking a step forward to get around him, but was stopped by the same man grabbing her arm harshly.
"What is wrong with you?!" He screamed, making people stop and stare. The man glared at her, throwing insult after insult her way. She was used to it, so all she did was look at him, until shut up and his eyes widen, his glare hardening somehow. "You're one of those brats, aren't you?!" He growled.
"What?" He ignored her and started marching away, pulling her along with him. She tried to get out of his grip but seemed impossible. He kept dragging her around the town until they reached a house. The Fixing House.
'Fuck' she cursed, her eyes widened in panic as they got closer. 'Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck! No! Please, God, please no! I'm sorry, please, I'm sorry, I'll be good! I'll go back! I'll love him, I'll cook for him, I'll do anything, please!'
The man opened the door and pushed her inside, making her trip and collide on her face. She rushed to get up and turned just as the door closed. "No.." Her voice shook and tears fell down. "No no no, please!" She grabbed the knob and turned it desperately, but it was locked. "No, please! Please!! Let me out! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!! Please let me out!" She pleaded and cried, but no one opened the door. She started banging and kicking the door. Her hits became weak the more time passed, and she soon collapsed, her sobs echoing through the house.
She sat there, shaking from the sobs that were now muffled by her knees as she hugged them closed. After what felt like hours but were actually minutes, a small hand touched her shoulder. She gasped and flinched back, blinking rapidly as she stared at a blurry form of a person. When her sight cleared, she noticed it was a little girl, maybe four or five years old.
"A-are you okay, miss..?" She asked softly, green doe eyes staring back at her, as the little girl played with her curly brown hair nervously. The Bride sucked in a breath and uncurled herself.
"I'm- I'm fine, sweetie.. thank you..." She smiled at her sadly. She sniffed and rubbed her eyes.
"You don't have to lie." Another girl scoffed. The older lady looked up, seeing a teenage girl with very short, curly, black hair with a bored face. She had bright blue eyes and stood with her arms crossed. "No one here is fine, so you're not alone."
"Oh, um... alright.." She looked around as she stood up and noticed all the other girls in the room, just staring at her. There were girls from all ages, and all seemed unhappy.
"What are you here for?" One of the girls asked.
"I-.. I escaped my wedding." She said with a small shrug. They all murmured something about 'another Bride'. "I was engaged to the Prince." At that, their eyes widen and didn't say anything. They kept staring at her in shock, making her uncomfortable. "Um.. what about you?"
"Mommy said I can't be a knight." The little girl from earlier said sadly.
"Oh, well, I think you'll be a great knight." The Bride answered with a smile. The little Knight grinned and bounced a little.
"Really?!" She squealed out, making the older lady chuckle.
"Yeah, of course!" The girl hugged her tightly.
"Wait, I thought the Prince had to marry the neighboring Princess to make amends." The blue eyed girl commented, her tone threatening.
The Bride just smiled and chuckled nervously. "Y-yeah.. That's me." She said in fake enthusiasm. There was an unsettling silence that settled right after, making her once again uncomfortable as they stared.
"I like girls." Another teenage girl said. She had straight blonde hair and hazel eyes.
"I don't like dresses." A younger girl mumbled, but the Bride still heard her.
"I want to be a lawyer!" A young adult girl exclaimed happily.
"A pirate!!" A ten year old said with a determined expression.
Many other girls answered after that. Some weren't girls and preferred the pronouns they/them and others, including the blue eyed one, were boys. To the boys, the Bride offered her scissors to give them a haircut, and they gladly accepted. Some of the 'non-binary', as they call themselves, also wanted a haircut.
They chatted among each other until it was night time and they went to sleep.
The Bride, on the other hand, stayed awake in the living room. She looked around the house for a way to escape, and found the backyard that actually lead to the ocean. She sat on the sand and closed her eyes, making a map inside her head. She was three hours and a half away from her meeting place with her friend. The tide might be a problem, so the only way would be to go on land. She knows some alleys that would make her get there in... two hours and ten minutes, and if she is fast enough, she could maybe make it in an hour and a half. Yeah, that could work.
She opened her eyes and walked inside the house. The Princess found a paper and some paint, so she made a quick note and worked on her plan.
She went back into the backyard and went to the gate covered in vines and flowers. The Bride climbed up and got on the roof. She made her way to the front of the house and looked down. There was no one in the streets, thankfully, so she jumped down and ran, following the map in her head. She turned left and right, jumped over boxes, carriages, and houses.
After exactly one hour and a half, she reached her meet up place, where her friend both lived and worked. When she reached her cottage, she saw her leaning on the windowsill, having a smoke. When she got close enough, her friend noticed her, and a grin formed on her face.
"Hey! You made it! Here." She turned around and pulled out of her bedside table keys on a rusty metal hoop.
"Thanks." She turned and started walking towards the ship, but stopped halfway through and turned back. She ran to her friend's window and blushed at what she was about to do. "Hey, uh.. do you maybe wanna, uh... escape with me..?" She asked nervously. Her friend stared at her for a second before grinning and pulling out a bag that was under her bed.
"Hell yeah." The Princess grinned and they both ran to the shore. They rushed to one of the planks and reached their ship. They worked on untying it and got it to sail.
"Hey, #$!*∆?" The other hummed, letting the Bride know she heard her. "Before we sail South, therefore something I got to do." The Seller turned to her friend and raised an eyebrow in question.
The blue eyed boy sat up in bed, his sweet slumber being interrupted by his 'housemates' laughing and talking so loudly. He groaned and got up from his bed, about to yell at them to shut up, but when his eyes laid on the Bride from yesterday on a huge ship in the backyard, he couldn't help but get excited too. He jumped out of his bed and rushed outside.
"What in the-" He muttered under his breath, but was cut off by the Princess calling out to him.
"Hey! You're awake! Go and pack, we're getting out of here!" She yelled out. The boy stood in shock for a couple seconds, but quickly ran back inside and got a small bag filled with his stuff. Most of them were put in there unexpected and didn't have anything of their own, so he only had some clothes that the girls who got out left behind. He ran back outside and followed his housemates to get on board. When they all settled, the Bride stood in front of the wheel with her friend sitting on a box, a cigarette hanging from her lips. "Is everybody here?" They all looked around at each other before nodding at the Princess. "Alright!" The Seller got up and pulled a rope, making all the sails drop. The wind pushed against them and ship started moving, and the children all cheered in excitement.
The Pirate girl went up to the Princess and stood next to her. The older girl picked up a black pirate hat that laid next to her and placed it on the younger's head. The girl squealed and hugged the other, grinning from ear to ear.
