Chapter 3

Oh god, how long has it been since I updated this?

(Human world)

"What are you!? Clowning me!?" The store cashier says.

Max looked at the microwave he placed on the counter, then back at the cashier. "Uh, what do you mean?"

"What is this!?" The man then slammed the dollar on the table.

The boy got confused before he picked up the dollar and adjusted his glasses as he looked closer. His eyes widened. The cash didn't have Benjamin on them, rather all of them had some jester-looking guy on them with a big and disgusting smile.

"Fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuck me in the ass."

(Later in Hell)

"I am so sorry, Max!" Charlie says over the phone. "I did not know that humans had different currency from Hell, I just figured that... uh... um..." She breathed through her teeth for a moment. "I'm sorry."

"Charlie, it's cool, really." Max says over the phone before sighing. "Well, this is a sign I need new glasses anyway."

"Uh, look, I can try to see if maybe I can convert the money to your currency, but... it might take a while for me to figure out."

"Like I said, it's fine. I... can wait."

"Okay, see you next time. Bye!" She tells him before hanging up. "Oh, how could I mess up that badly? Of course, human money and Hell money are different. Why wouldn't they be?"

"Charlie, you don't have to blame yourself. It's not like you could've known." Vaggie tells her.

"Yeah, but Max didn't know." Charlie says before sitting next to her on the bed. "After all he's already had to deal with, he's one more thing to be mad about and it hasn't even been a week!"

"I know, but it's not your fault. This is just bad luck. If you want someone to blame, try Alastor for dragging him into this."

"You're welcome." Alastor says half sarcastically.

"Just saying. Charlie didn't teleport him to Hell naked or allowed his brother to commit murder."

"Okay, let's not stress the details. Yesterday wasn't the best for him, but maybe today will be much better. Flyers are already up, now with him as our new tech repair guy, I'm sure he'll fit in."

(Parkson's Home)

"Well, looks like we're not getting a new microwave anytime soon." Max says before dropping his phone.

The boy slouched on the couch, sighing to himself. He looked at the money, seeing the stupid jester before putting it away. He didn't know how long it'd be before the Radio Demon came back to teleport him back to the hotel and despite Charlie being the princess, she was definitely a bit of an airhead.

He thought for a moment before taking out and looking over the microphone that Alastor gave him. The mic just stared at him, completely blank and expressionless as he stared back. He hummed to himself as he continued to stare at the thing as it stared back at him.

They stared... and stared... and stared... until he blinked before groaning in annoyance.

"Alright, you win that one." He says before the eye looked gleeful from winning the staring contest.

That didn't change the fact that Max still was a little hesitant to trust the thing. Sure, it saved him, but it also came from a certain motherfucker who had his soul. The one who he was sure was trying to manipulate him some way. It was bound to do something to screw him over, right Would he really be willing to trust this thing?

As he was thinking, the microphone showed curiosity. Then it looked him up and down, then looked around his living room, even turning itself fully in his hand to get a better view.

"It's just my house. Nothing really special about it." Max explained.

It looked back at him, then gave him a half-lidded gaze.

"Oh, don't give me that look. I'm not about to be judged by tiny fucking piece of plastic." He says, offended... before it rolled its eye at him. "Oh, fuck you."

"You done talking to your microphone?" Yuri asks as he enters the room. "Sounds like you two are having fun."

"Try the opposite." Max sighs before putting the thing away then was suddenly tossed a paper bag. "W-What's this?"

"Chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A. Figured you'd like something good for lunch." His older brother says. "It's cold though so... might wanna use the hotel's microwave until then."

"Wow, thanks." The younger boy says before hearing a *WOOSH* and then seeing the Radio Demon standing in the living room, waiting for him. "Well, that's my call. Wish me luck."

"Yeah... don't die down there, brother." Yuri says.

"I'll try."

(Sometime in Hell)

Charlie was sitting at the couch, looking over some papers before a glow in the middle of the foyer caught her attention. She got up and ran over to it as the glow disappeared, revealing the human and Radio Demon.

"Hey, Max!" She says cheerfully.

"Sup, Charlie." He says back.

"Again, I am really sorry. I should've looked into this more."

"It's cool. Not that big of a deal." Max says before holding the money out. "Here you go."

"Keep it." She tells him while pushing the money back. "I know you can't really do anything with it, but just in case I find a way to convert it."

"Oh, okay."

"Well, actually, you could use that money while you're still in Hell." Alastor suggested.

"Ooh, that's actually a good idea. There are some stores here you could probably use that for." Charlie suggests.

"Like where? The nearest strip club? A black market? A torture shop?" Max asked.

"No, you could just go to the nearest market."

"Oh... well, how... not-violent and not-sexual are they?"

"... There are some that aren't violent and sexual."

"... Oh well, that's... a pleasant surprise, I guess." Max says before taking out his paper bag. "Do you have a working microwave here?"

"Yeah, we do. Come on, I'll show you." Charlie then takes him by the arm and shows him to the kitchen.

(Later)

"Alright." Charlie says as she steps out with a clipboard in hand. "We have a few rooms that need some work, mostly light switches and some wall plugs, but the main issue right now is out here in the back. We have a problem with some of the wiring back there, but hopefully it won't be long. Do you need me to supervise you?"

"Nah, if it's just some loose wires, I think I can handle it." Max says before taking a bite of his chicken sandwich then holding up his toolbox. "Should have all I need here."

"Good, but if they don't work-" Charlie then takes out another toolbox. "You can always use the ones in this."

"Okay, thanks."

"Now, if you have a problem, just call or come to one of us, okay?"

"Got it. You can count on me."

After that, the human wrapped his sandwich and pocketed it before picking up the other toolbox, then going behind the hotel. He was muttering to himself as he walked back there, stopping and looking around before seeing the wires.

"Here we go." He says as he walks up and places the toolboxes down, stopping before looking back. "Oh, that's... something."

Behind him was what looked like some big marks in the dirt. They looked like someone had taken a rake and dragged it around the dirt randomly. He didn't put too much thought into it, only opening his toolbox and digging through it. He inspected the wires, raising a brow as they looked pretty much mangled but not behind repair. He took out electrical tape, scissors, pliers, and got to work.

Max hummed 'Old Town Road' as he was working on the damage. He was distracted as he was working, pulling out his chicken sandwich and continued eating it as he was working with one hand, not noticing the footsteps behind him, only in his own head as he happily munched along.

Eventually, he finished with the wiring, he smirked to himself as he started putting his tools away. Then slowly stopped as he heard a growling behind him. Worry filled his face as he slowly turned around and jumped before crawling back.

Standing there was what looked like a wolf creature with blood-red paws and tipped ears. Wings protruded from its back with there being some kind of red mark as its gray eyes glowed brightly while it snarled its sharp teeth at him.

I don't own this picture. The owner is in the lower right corner.

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me." Max muttered to himself before the wolf started inching towards him. "No, no, no, stay back!" He says as he crawled back.

It kept walking, still snarling each step it took closer to him. Then suddenly its nose flared, and it stopped before sniffing then looking away. Trying to figure out what it was looking at, Max's gaze fell to the chicken sandwich in his hand.

"Y-You want this? You want this, boy?" He says while holding the sandwich up. "Okay, okay." He quickly got to his feet, then ripped the sandwich in half, holding it up to make sure the hound was still looking at it. "You want it? Go get it!" He then chucked the thing as far away as he could.

The second the hound's attention was elsewhere, he made a run for it to the front of the hotel, stopping outside of the gate. He leaned against the wall, his heart pounding against his chest as the adrenaline pumped through him.

He stayed there for a little bit, inhaling and exhaling through his nose before squinting his eyes. Slowly, his breathing became steady, and he began to calm down before he looked in the direction where he ran from, adjusting his glasses. The hound seemed to have not chased him down or anything and he started to feel his heart stop beating so harsh.

"Oh..." Max sighed as he slid down to the ground. "Oh, fucking god." He groaned before laying there for a small moment. "Well, ain't going back there now."

After a bit, he got back up on his feet, looked back, then started to go back to the hotel. However, he stopped when he realized his toolboxes were missing, remembering that he abandoned them. He just shook his head before continuing to the hotel. He'd just tell Charlie and... maybe she can find a way to deal with it.

But then he stopped once he grabbed the doorknob. Sure he could ask for them to help... or he could go over there and deal with it himself. He wanted to prove that he didn't need help so... He looked back, then looked to the door, then opened his hoodie to see his tommy gun, then sighed.

"What am I doing?"

Max ran back to the back of the hotel. He peeked around the corner, and yeah, the hound was still there. It was scratching around the area, leaving more marks in the dirt. It became clear that those marks he saw earlier was this thing's claw marks.

It got him a little wondering if it could be doing what he thought it was doing. Then he saw it raise one of its back legs and... yep, it was marking its territory. He cringed before looking away. This hound had decided to make itself at home at that part of the hotel. Once done marking, it did that animal thing where it circled around in the middle of the marks, then plopped down and curled up, ready for a nap.

The boy shook his head before stepping out, then looked at the wires, seeing the toolboxes there. He slowly tip-toed over to them, making sure not to make any noise before reaching down to pick them up.

While he was there, he looked back at the wires he just fixed, remembering how they looked before then. It started to click that this thing must've been the one who chewed them, causing them to become torn up as they had been. It was the most logical thing he could come up with.

With a shrug, he slowly started to lift one of the boxes up... but then it slipped and fell to the ground, making a noise that caused the hound's eyes to snap open. His face drooped as he looked back at the creature who quickly arose to its feet and started snarling as it started approaching more rapidly.

"Shit, shit, shit!"

In the heat of the moment, he reached into his hood and swung out the first thing he grabbed while squinting his eyes. Suddenly the snarling stopped. He opened his eyes and looked at the hound. It didn't look as angry as it had earlier. It stared at his hand, not in malice. Its pupils were dilated.

He looked at his hand and... it was the other half of his chicken sandwich when he had meant to grab one of his guns. Sighing to himself, he made his way to his feet as the hound jumped back and started snarling again. Out of anticipation, he wiped open his hood, revealing the tommy gun.

They were in a stare off for a small second before Max started to reach for his gun, only for the hound to wrinkle its snout and snarl more harshly. The boy looked back and forth between the two before pulling the gun out, BEFORE BLASTING IT FULL OF LEAD!

The boy looked back and forth between the two before pulling the gun out, then extending his arm... then dropping the gun.

The hound seemed to have calm down a little bit before he kicked it away. That seemed to do the trick as it then stopped snarling before sitting down, its ear twitching. He let out a big breath before shaking his head again.

He was gonna reach for his toolbox again, but curiosity got the better of him and he looked back at the hound. It seemed... not so hostile anymore. Even more curious, he extended his hand with the food towards the hound. Its eyes darted up to his face, then back at the food before slowly walking forward, causing the boy to tense up in anticipation.

It started to sniff the food, much to his surprise before looking up at him. Another look back and forth and then he thought of something.

"You want the rest?" He asked before taking off the wrapper and holding the food with both hands. "Here you go."

The hound looked up at him again, before back to the sandwich, then let out a huff before opening its mouth. To the boy's surprise, it was all just gum.

"Huh... toothless." He says as he leaned in for a closer look. "Ya know I could've sworn you had-" Then its pearly whites suddenly formed before it violently ripped the food from his hands and shaking its head rapidly as he stepped back. "Teeth."

It chomped and chomped away at the food, then gulped before looking back up at him, seemingly more docile than before. Then it did a small burp, small embers emitting through its nose. The boy almost chuckled a bit.

Its pupils became slit before it started approaching more eagerly as the boy backed up.

"Uh... I..." He says before backing into the wall as it started sniffing him. "I don't have anymore."

Its brow furrowed before it hopped back and then took off, flying into the distance. Max stayed still with his eyes wide, darting back and forth as if to reassure he was in the clear. He was taking two steps away from the wall, looking around again. Seemed safe.

However, as he leaned down to pick up the toolboxes, the hound dropped in, causing him to jump and fall on his butt. He adjusted his glasses before crawling back again, before the creature dropped something in his lap. The boy nearly hurled at what he saw. He didn't know what it was, but it was big, it was hairless, it had spikes coming out of it, it had a pig snout and ears, it was dead, and its blood was all over his pants.

He covered his mouth before looking back at the hound. It stared back at him pupils dilated, expectedly. Looking back and forth he started to get an idea of what it wanted.

'You've gotta be fucking kidding me.' He thinks to himself.

He reached down and picked up the corpse of... well whatever the hell this thing was. He looked back in hopes, but the hound was still staring. As much as he didn't want to do it, he didn't want to get fried right now. So, closing his eyes he lifted it up to his mouth and then, took a bite.

And so, he tried not to hurl, gagging with each chew as instant regret kicked in. It's raw... it was fucking raw! It was so disgusting! He could still taste the blood enveloping his tongue and running down his chin, the chunks of uncooked meat, he couldn't imagine a worse fate. He figured he must've done something to upset God to be suffering this.

'Oh god, WHY!? WHY ME!?'

He kept screaming in his mind and yet he continued to chew over and over again. After a bit, he looked at the hound who let out an impressed growl. He then nodded... then the hound did a gulp.

'... You've gotta be kidding me.'

So, in reluctance, Max powered through and started swallowing. He covered his mouth as he had trouble before managing to swallow it, sticking his tongue out in disgust. In response, the hound flicked his tongue out for a second in approval.

The boy then weakly smiled at the creature, trying his best not to puke. Seeing this, the corner of the hound's lips started to curl up, revealing its gums as if it were attempting to smile itself. It was a surprise to him, seeing that this thing was trying to mimic his smile.

'Did I... just tame a Hell Dog?' He thought to himself.

He looked down for a second before getting on his knees, shuffling closer while reaching his hand out. However, the moment his hand was just inches away, it dropped the smile and growled, baring its fangs before hopping away and then spinning around while breathing fire, burning the ground under him before laying on the charred dirt.

Max was a little caught off, but seeing as there wasn't anything he could do, he grabbed the toolbox and started to leave. He looked back and saw the hound give him a small glance before it curled up, probably for a nap.

He stared for a bit, then whistled before he started walking away quickly. Once in front of the hotel, he looked back, making sure it wasn't following him. He started to move again before bumping into someone.

"Oh, Max! I'm sorry." Charlie says before helping him up. "You were taking a while, so I thought you were in trouble."

"Well, not in trouble so you don't-" The boy started to say.

"What the fuck is that!?" Vaggie says while pointing at his blood-stained pants.

"Wha... oh shit."

"Oh NO! NO! NO!" Charlie starts to freak out as she grabs the boy by the shoulders. "Oh, I knew I should've sent someone back with you! Come on, we'll get you patched up!"

"Charlie, I'm fine!" Max says while pushing her off him. "It's not my blood, it's... uh, it's from a... pig... thing-Can I just show you?"

(One second later)

"And this is the problem I came across." Max says while showing off the wolf who was tearing into the pig creature it gave him earlier. "This... demon dog."

"You mean hellhound?" Vaggie says, uncomfortable.

"Yeah, that."

"Wow. I've never seen one like this before." Charlie says before squinting her eyes at its forehead. "I don't think I've ever seen that mark before either."

"This isn't what they normally look like?" Max asked.

"Most Hellhounds here are bipedal and can stand on two legs. Quadruped ones are mostly uncommon." Vaggie says before looking back. "The wings I don't know too much about though."

"That's interesting I guess."

"Wait, is that..." Charlie says before looking back and forth between the boy and what the hound was eating. "Is that why there's blood on you?"

"Ding, ding. You got it right." Max tells her. "Trust me that wolf dropped it into my lap."

"Why?" Vaggie asked.

"Well, my breakfast seemed to satisfy it enough... I think." The boy says as he saw the hound rip the last bit of skin off the hog creature. "For a snack anyway." He says before the hound started eating the skeleton next, the first bone breaking into pieces like a chip.

"And..."

"And well, I think he's chill with me."

"Oh, so he's tame. That's good." Charlie says, relieved.

"Not exactly tame, but... I'm off the menu, I guess." Max tells her.

Vaggie then noticed something. "Wait a second." She then got closer to his face looking at his mouth, seeing hi stained lips and chin. "Why is there blood on your mouth?"

"Uh..."

The boy started to sweat as he tried to think of an excuse. Unfortunately, he couldn't come up with something to say. She looked back at the hound who bit another bone off the skeleton to eat. It started to click before she slowly looked back at him.

"You didn't." She says.

He looked at her, looked at the hound, looked at Charlie who was also shocked. At this point, it was probably best to accept his fate.

"OKAY! Look, I may have taken a bite out of-" He started to say.

"Why!?" Vaggie asks again.

"I had no choice! It dropped the damn thing in my lap, I didn't want to get fucking burned alive, so I sucked it up and ate a piece of it!"

"Oh, ew! Ew! That is disgusting." Vaggie says as Charlie turns away and covers her mouth.

"It was other that or I get fried like Anakin on Mustafar! And it was fucking horrible! I hated it!" Max shouted before groaning, then looking at the hound who didn't seem to care as it was done with the bones and now eating the skull. "Damn, that thing is still going."

"Okay, nevermind, forget it. I'll deal with this thing." Vaggie says while drawing her spear.

"NO!" Both Max and Charlie say, shocking her before the two looked at each other.

"Uh... w-we don't necessarily have to kill it." The boy says before looking at the hound. "After all it's not doing anything now."

"Y-Yeah, and if it's tame then, I think we can just leave it." Charlie says.

"We don't know what problems this thing can cause. You just said it was about to burn you alive." Vaggie explains.

A loud and audible burp came from the hound who had finished eating the skull before stretching while releasing a big yawn. Then it curled out again before sleeping.

"Aw, see? He's perfectly fine now. Just sleepy." Charlie says, trying to reassure her.

"That doesn't mean it's not dangerous."

"Yeah, but... he's not now." Max tells her. "Maybe he was just hungry was all."

"Okay, I get why Charlie would be so kind as to not want this thing dead, but why do you care, Max?" Vaggie asked him with puzzlement.

"I-I don't know, I just..." He says before looking at the hound sleeping peacefully without a care. "Just think that it doesn't deserve to be killed for just hunting."

"What?"

"I mean, it was just looking for food like any animal out there... I don't know. Maybe-"

"You just want a pet with superpowers, don't you?"

Max slowly looked in her direction before clearing his throat and adjusting his glasses. "No, I don't." He says before she gave him a stern glare. "Okay, I know it sounds childish as fuck, but I mean, this guy did come around and tried to share food with me. Maybe there's a chance or something?"

"Well, whatever the reason, I agree that maybe we can just let this one slide." Charlie says before the other woman looked baffled.

"I..." Vaggie only sighed dejectedly. "Fine."

"Alright, now come on. There's still some more work to do." Charlie says while waving as she left.

Vaggie turned and followed her, Max staying behind before looking at the hound again. It was just lying there, sleeping without a care in the world. It just seemed so... peaceful. Something about it just-

... It just farted fire.

(The next day at the Parkson's Home)

"So, you got this from Hell?" Daphne asks while looking at the new microwave in their kitchen.

"Yep, they need to eat somehow." Max says as he was digging through the fridge.

"Are you sure it's safe?"

"Um... y-yeah, I'm sure."

(Later in Hell)

"And that's everything. Alright, you're done for the day." Charlie says after checking off the list. "Once the guests come in, surely they will be able to enjoy the repaired amenities."

"It's not really that complicated. Or as much as I thought it'd be anyway." Max says.

"Still, thank you so much for all your help."

"Right, uh... I'm just... gonna have a bit of a walk around. Maybe head into town to get some supplies."

"Really? You gonna be okay on your own?"

"I think I'm fine." Max says before taking out the mic Alastor gave him. "Especially with this thing." He says as the mic looked offended before smacking its head against him. "Ow, okay, I'm sorry. You're not a 'thing'."

"Still don't trust anything from Alastor." Vaggie says as was cleaning a stain off the carpet. "Also, if you're going out, can you maybe try not to kill anyone in public?"

"I know, I know. I'm gonna be careful. I'm not gonna be reckless like last time."

"Oh, but you also should still careful." Charlie also tells him.

"Like I said, I'll be fine." Max says while taking out his mask and putting it on while heading for the door. "Like I said, I'm not gonna be stupid in Hell. See ya around." He says while exiting.

"Okay, again be careful!"

"Again, no problem!" He called back before closing the door.

"He'll be fine."

(Sometime later)

Max was standing in front of what he assumed to be a butcher shop. He assumed anyway. There was no sign, but there was meat being hung from hooks behind the glass, so it wasn't rocket science. He had his hands in his pockets as he was looking around before opening the door.

"Sup." He says to a hog behind the counter who just snorted.

He paid it no mind as he walked up to some of the hanging meat and started looking at them. The hog saw an opportunity and snuck around the counter, walking closer as the boy seemed unaware. Then he slowly began to raise a cleaver above him. Not noticing the shadow appearing on the way in the shape of the Radi-

"BOY! I wish you would!" Max spun around while shoving the barrel of his tommy gun in the hog's face, catching him off guard. "Come and try it. See what happens." He threatened before the hog lowered the cleaver while keeping his other hand up as the shadow faded away. "That's right. Least you got some sense in your head. Now get behind that counter and do your damn job!"

Not wanting his face blown off, the hog nodded while stepping back and going back to his spot. With a nod, Max put his gun away before looking back at the meat.

"I'll take some slices of... whatever this is."

(Back at the hotel)

After doing some more shopping for actual supplies he'd need, Max went back to the hotel and started going behind it, setting one of the bags at the side of the building while keeping the bag from the butcher shop. He took a peek around and saw the hellhound still there and was sniffing the wires that he had previously fixed.

"Hey, bud." He says while stepping out into view before the hound growled. "Woah, woah, it's just me." He took off the mask and the hound calmed down quickly. "I don't think you're gonna get anything good from there. I got something way better."

He then knelt down and pulled out some of the pieces of raw meat from the bag. The hound stepped closer and sniffed the pieces before it licked a few up into its mouth before pulling back to chew. Max sighed, feeling less anxious about getting his face bit off as the hound continued to enjoy the meat.

Once done, he reached for his bag to get more before the hound lunged and ripped the bag from his hand and started shaking it rapidly, ripping it open and sending the rest of the meat everywhere. It then ran around gathering them up and practically inhaling them much to the fright of the human boy.

Afterward the hound then went over to the burn it made and laid on it, curling up. It perked up when it heard chirping, seeing what looked like a normal bird flying above it. It then turned away, seeing the boy sitting just a few feet away before huffing and laying back down while covering itself with its scraggily tail.

Max scooted closer to it, then started to reach his hand out. Of course, its tail rose up and the hound was glaring at him, causing him to jump to his feet, then start to walk away. Huffing again, the hound moved farther away.

(Sometime later)

Max was still sitting outside, staring at the hound who was minding its own business. He sighed before leaning back.

"What am I doing." He says to himself before reaching down and picking up a stick. "Was a big drug dealer on Earth, now I'm doing this."

He started doodling in the dirt with a large stick he found. It wasn't anything too special, just the shape of a wolf head... well, that's what he was trying to do. It wasn't the best, but he didn't really care much about accuracy. Sadly, it didn't help with his boredom.

While doodling, he heard a shuffle next to him and looked back. The hellhound was looking over his shoulder, watching him. He looked dumbfounded but kept going. He took one more look at the wolf and just to test... he didn't know, something, he drew the mark on the hound's head in the dirt.

The hound tilted his head. Maybe he felt flattered or something. Max just shook his head and started drawing some fur on the back of the head before he heard a distant crashing noise. He was stunned for a moment before he heard a closer crash and looked to the side.

He squinted for a second. Didn't that hill he saw in the distance have a tree? Then he saw the hound start dragging a tree just thin enough to fit in its maw across the ground, bits of dirt falling off the roots. Curious, he watched what it was doing as he watched the process go on. After a bit, the hound stopped and dropped the tree before stepping back.

Max was still dumbfounded, especially as he looked around and saw the random symbol thing the hound had drawn which he had no idea what it was. To him, it just looks like some random lines drawn around the dirt.

"Okay, uh... you're a... decent artist?" He says before the hound furrowed its brow. "Sorry." He says as the gaze softens.

Max stood up and start to walk away before he heard a snarl and turned to the hound who was doing it with a hard glare in his direction. He looked down and saw his foot on one of the lines, then took it off, making the hound stop. He hovered his foot over it, and the hound growled.

"Got it... I think it."

He stepped over the lines, careful not to accidentally touch any of them which seemed to put the hound at ease. He had to do a bunch of maneuvers to avoid ruining the 'art' of the creature, stepping around, turning several times until he found himself standing next to the hound.

At first, he flinched, but the hound didn't appear angry or anything, just looked curious. Seeing this, Max had a thought before reaching out, which made the hound snarl on one side of his face which made him pull away. He waited for a moment before sighing, then taking a deep breath before closing his eyes as he turns away and holds his hand out.

The hellhound looked at him, then at his opened palm. Then it moved its head closer and rubbed against it. Max flinched for a moment before slowly turning his head to look at the hound. He seemed a bit relieved when seeing that, especially as the hound lifted its head up and looked at him.

They stared at each other, no hostility or anything. The boy looked left and right, then back at the hound who appeared to be waiting for what he'd do next. Taking a risk, he reached out and started scratching its ear, which made it tilt its head into his palm while closing its eyes, enjoying the touch.

"Heh, alright. I can roll with this." He chuckled a bit while continuing to scratch it.

In that moment, a new bond was form.

To be continued...
