Chapter 36: Busted

I stared at the woman for what seemed like hours, her staring back with an equally shocked expression. Her black hair had been cut shorter, and she was certainly skinnier and frailer, probably from the lack of food from this place. Yet, I was sure it was her. Her eyes still sparkled with love and hope, and despite her cheekbones being visible her face still remained beautiful and kind.

Finally she snapped out of her daze, reaching out to us with her arms open.

I gasped, lunging forward and embracing her with tearful eyes. She hugged back without hesitation, letting out a shaky breath as we held onto each other tightly.

'It really is you... mom... you're alive...'

She nodded into my hair, her teardrops falling onto my shoulder as she slowly rubbed my back with her hand. I felt her reach behind me, holding a hand out to my brother and sister as they had been frozen the entire time. The next thing I knew, I was enveloped in the familiar warmth of my childhood.

'I missed this...' Laura sniffled 'I missed you, mom...'

Mom placed a gentle motherly kiss on her forehead, running her bony fingers through her hair as she smiled ever so slightly.

'H-How are you alive?' Luke stuttered. He held onto me and mom tightly.

Mom opened her mouth, only to close it again and give us a sad look.

'I should probably let you know,' Capricorn began from behind us, causing us to stare at him with slightly confused expressions 'That she is a mute.'

What?

I turned back to my mother to ask if this was true, but her expression said it all. Her head was bowed, her eyebrows furrowed and her lips pursed as she wrapped her hand around her neck. She shivered slightly, probably from the memory of how it happened.

'He did it, didn't he?'

Luke's voice was low, resembling a growl as he grit his teeth. His face only tightened further once he received a nod of approval from the woman in question.

I had to ask 'Who's 'he'?'

'The monster running this place.' Laura snarled. 'He's the reason we're here, rotting in a smelly cell because of the power's 'given' to us.'

'He sounds like a pri-.'

Mom slapped my arm, preventing me from finishing that curse word. I cleared my throat.

'Sorry. He sounds awful.'

'Oh he is.'

I suddenly felt a hand on my cheek, it's fingers running across the tender skin of my scar. Mom gazed at it as if to ask what happened.

I sighed, taking her hand and lowering it from my face 'It's a long story, mom. One that I don't think you're ready to hear about.'

She pouted, causing me to chuckle slightly.

'Sorry. But know that I was a big girl about it~'

Luke snorted slightly, making me jab my elbow into his side. 'Shut it, Matthew.'

'Okay, jeez, sorry.'

(Third POV)

'Hey, Sunny boy. What did you need me for?'

Sun smiled at the blue haired boy in front of him, gripping the handle behind the door to suppress his rising anger he had inside him.

'I just wanted to spend time with you,' he lied 'After... you know.'

'Yes, I heard.' Leven frowned, resting a hand on the other male's shoulder 'I'm sorry.'

Sun shook his head, stepping aside to let his 'boyfriend' enter 'Come on in.'

Leven followed Sun into his room, both were silent until they plopped down on the bed. Leven spoke up 'How are the others holding up?'

Sun's eyes fell to the floor 'They're managing. Well, most of them are at least...'

'Most of them?'

'Gladion isn't doing so good. I haven't even seen him eat since she disappeared. He's getting worse each day.'

Leven frowned 'I'm sorry to hear that...'

No you're not.

'It's not your fault.' Sun turned to him, giving him the most convincing smile he could. When deep down, he very much knew it was his fault.

Leven suddenly stood, taking off his hoodie and tossing it onto the beanbag across the room. 'Do you mind if I use your bathroom for a bit?'

'Not at all.'

He smiled, giving Sun a quick peck on the cheek before leaving. As soon as the door closed the male wiped his cheek with the back of his hand, scrunching his nose up in disgust. His eyes travelled to Leven's hoodie and he raised a brow.

'I wonder...'

He made his way to the other side of the room, picking up the hoodie and shuffled through the pockets. There were things you would expect to see. Keys, a pack of gum, a notebook. He pulled out the keys, noticing one of the charms had a photo of some kind attached.

'You know if you wanted gum, you could've just asked.'

Sun jumped slightly, finding Leven leaning against the doorframe with a slight smirk.

'Oh, sorry. Guess I was just curious.' he glanced at the photo again 'Speaking of curiosity, you never told me where your family lived.'

Silence filled the room. Sun gulped down some saliva as his gaze never shifted from the male.

'My parents live and work in Hoenn, my little brother lives with them and my older sister is out travelling the world as a Pokémon trainer.' Leven's voice was strained, as he uncomfortably shifted in the doorway 'Why do you ask, babe?'

'I find it strange that you keep such an adorable family photo like this close to you at all times.' Sun held up the keychain, slowly standing as his voice became lower and more intense. His eyes became stern as they pierced into the boy 'So, tell me Leven. Why are you lying to me?'

'Woah, babe calm down-'

'Your family were victims to the experiments. Not only that, but since the man who did it is dead you decided to seek vengeance on his living relatives, didn't you?'

Leven froze, falling silent as his eyes fell to the floor and a shadow cast over his face. His fists clenched at his sides.

Sun clicked his tongue 'Busted. That reaction leaves no doubt that I'm right.' He pushed past Leven in the doorway.

*Click*

He turned around, only to see Leven aiming a tranquilizing handgun at the boy's head.

'You sure have a big mouth don't you, mister champion~?'

Flashback

'Okay! Sun Elios I want answers and I want them now!' Rose whined, pounding the mattress she was sitting on.

'Yeah, and you can start with why on earth the Kanto champions are here!'

Ashley pointed behind Sun, and to the two young men standing awkwardly in the doorway. Red and Green exchanged glances before too staring at the boy in the middle of the room.

'You didn't tell them we'd be here?' Green crossed his arms, tilting his head to the side.

'Well... no.' Sun rubbed the back of his neck 'I wanted to wait until everyone got here so I could clear everything up in one sentence.'

'Why?' Guzma asked with a bored expression.

'I get more annoyed the more I explain something, remember?'

Green glanced at Red, who just shrugged and nodded to Sun as if to say 'Fair enough. Continue, Sun'.

The boy sighed 'Alright. I feel like there's a way to get Leven to confess to kidnapping Megan.'

(Kinda short, sorry about that.... Oh, and btw, Elios is Sun's last name. Or, at least the one I have given him)
