Chapter 23: Don't do anything rash

(Megan POV)

'Ashley!'

I ran over to the girl, who was on her knees in the middle of the hall and was gripping hair hair. She was soaking wet, which made me think she had been out in the rain, and seemed to be shaking and muttering something. I squatted down next to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, causing her to whip her head round to me and stare at me with wide eyes.

'What happened?' I asked softly.

'L-Luke...' She whispered.

My eyes widened. Why did she say that name?

I shook my head in dismissal 'Gladion, get me a towel or a blanket, anything to warm her up!'

'Warm who up?' Gladion poked his head round the corner. Once he saw Ashley however he understood without needing an answer and rushed back into the room. I rubbed the woman's back soothingly as she continued to shake. Gladion came out a minute after and wrapped a red blanket around her shoulders. Him and I made eye contact.

'Help me move her to our room.' I whispered.

He nodded 'Alright.'

We gently pulled Ashley up and lead her into our room, allowing her to sit on the bed once she got to it. I bent down slightly and placed my hands on her shoulders.

'Ashley, please look at me.'

She slowly looked up. I continued.

'You think you can tell me what happened now?'

She nodded slightly 'I was looking for them again...'

'You mean Matthew and Lizzy?' Gladion asked with his arms crossed.

She nodded again 'I didn't want to believe they were kidnapped... But I still had no luck finding them... I guess I collapsed in the hall due to a panic attack...'

'I see...' I gave her a sad expression. I knew what it was like to have one of those... they aren't pleasant.

Wait... does this mean I just imagined what she said earlier?

'Do you know what triggered the attack?' Gladion asked.

Ashe ran a hand through her hair. She was slowly regaining her composure 'Maybe the thought of whoever has their hands on my fiance and his sister, might be doing something despicable to them? I don't really know...'

I looked up at Gladion for his opinion, but instead I found him with his eyebrows knitted together. He seemed to be debating on something in his head.

'Babe?' I called softly.

'I might have an idea on who might have them...'

I cocked an eyebrow 'Isn't it a little early to assume?'

He turned to me 'Depends on how much evidence you have.'

'What evidence?'

By now even Ashe was giving him a look of confusion.

'Well, think about it. Who started this entire mess to begin with?'

'Uh, my dead father?'

'And?'

'Your mo-' I paused, eyes widening at what he was implying 'Gladion, so help me if you're thinking what I think you're thinking-'

'Hey! Hear me out okay? I know she seems like she's changed, but I still don't trust her. I doubt she can change. Plus this kidnapper took two people who we now know can transform into Pokemon, just like you can. And who is this person after?'

'...me?'

'Exactly! And who made you this way?'

'Lusamine...'

'Yes. My mother was part of those experiments all those years ago. The same experiments you were in, and I bet Matt and Liz were in too. Not to mention everything she did while she was being 'manipulated' by Nihilego.'

'Gladion.' I said rather firmly 'We aren't here to accuse. We're here to help Ashe-'

'I am helping her, by getting to the bottom of this!'

'No! You're just pointing fingers and holding grudges!'

'How is this holding a grudge?! I'm only saying it would make sense if mother was behind this! Her past obsessions and manipulative facade, the fact she made you like this. Matthew and Lizzy are the only one's missing. And this person knows about your pregnancy! I think it is safe to say she is at least involved in this!'

'Or she may have nothing to do with it whatsoever!'

'Well I have no idea why you're defending her! Remember what happens to you during thunderstorms? That's because of her!'

'She's changed, Gladion! You haven't been bothered about her until now, unless you would've brought it up!

'Well maybe it's time that I did! I have a feeling she's still evil. And correct me if I'm wrong but-'

'GLADION! ENOUGH!'

The boy stopped in his tracks and stared at me with wide eyes, eyebrows furrowed and lips parted. I stared back in anger.

'We will talk about this, Later.' I continued behind gritted teeth.

His shocked face morphed into a scowl, and we both turned our heads away from each other. Ashley watched us worriedly, since our usual fights weren't this intense.

'A-Am I being bothersome?' She asked. I looked down at her with a sad expression.

'No of course not, Ashe. It's just some people don't know how to let things go.' I explained, straining the last part and glaring at Gladion from the corner of my eye. I hear him scoff at my statement.

'Maybe I should go see Lillie about this... Things clearly aren't peachy with you two and I don't want them to get worse. Not on my account.'

'Yeah that might be a good idea.' Gladion muttered. I can feel his glare peircing right through me.

I walk with Ashe to the door, opening it for her and watching her leave. She pauses for a moment and turns to me, giving me a sad frown.

'Just... Don't do anything rash, guys.' She whispered before leaving.

I slowly closed the door, keeping my hand on the knob as soon as I did, and stared down at it. Gladion was glaring daggers into my back. It was so intense it made me shudder. After a minute of silence I grit my teeth and turn to Gladion and glared with similar intensity. We held each other's gaze from across the room. Finally, we both opened our mouths and spoke at the same time:

'What the f*ck was that?'

(Ashley POV)

I knocked three times on Lillie's door before re wrapping the blanket Gladion gave me around myself. I heard shuffling on the other side, followed by a thump, and finally the door opening. Lillie stood there in her pajamas, her hair was in a fishtail plait and she had a pendant around her neck resembling an eclipse. She stared at me in confusion.

'Ashley? Are you okay? Why are you soaking wet?'

I couldn't hold it in anymore. I collapsed onto her and cried into her shoulder, catching her off-guard and causing her to stumble back slightly. She soon regained her composure though, and wrapped her arms around me, rubbing circles into my back.

'Shh. It's okay... Just let everything out...' She whispered soothingly.

After two minutes of me crying my eyes out and Lillie comforting me, she sat me down on her bed and sat down next to me. It was then I realised Hau was there too, watching us and debating on whether to help or not. Lillie beckoned him over, causing him to nod and it the other side of me so I was in the middle of them both. They both wrapped an arm around me.

'I know it's hard.' Lillie began 'But we can't give up. We have to stay strong and find them, because that's what they would want.'

'They wouldn't give up on us, would they?' Hau added.

I sniffled 'N-no... But it still hurts...'

'I know...' Hau rubbed my back, while Lillie wiped away my tears with a tissue. She was about to say something, but was cut off by muffled yelling from down the hall. She and Hau looked at each other confused, while I tensed up from worry. As I knew exactly what was going on.

'They're arguing...' I whispered.

'Who are?'

'Megan and Gladion.' I answered Lillie 'Gladion had accused your mother for all this. I don't know why, but Megan seemed to be really upset about it.'

The yelling continued, followed by a crash, and finally the sound of a door opening and slamming shut.

'Three... Two... One...' Hau counted.

Megan stormed past the room we were in, shoulders tensed and fists clenched. The three of us rushed to the doorway and poked our heads through it. 'Megan?' Lillie called.

The girl stopped in her tracks 'What?' She asked coldly, not turning round to face us.

'What happened back there?' Hau asked 'Where's Gladion?'

Megan scoffed, turning her body around to face her. Damn did she look terrifying. I don't think I've ever seen her this angry.

'He's in his room.' She growled 'Cleaning up the mess.'

'You mean the crash we heard?'

'Yes.'

I frowned at her. She was literally trembling from anger. She turned around and began walking again 'I'm sleeping in the office tonight.'

Our eyes followed her until she was out of sight, eyebrows furrowed in sadness. We turned to each other. Hau was biting his lip, Lillie was close to tears, and I was clutching the blanket tightly.

'What was that about?' Hau asked, breaking the silence.

'I don't know...' I shook my head 'But I really hope they can sort it out...'
