Chapter 22: Can't help but love her
(Gladion POV)
'Hey, Wicke?'
'Hmm? Yes young master?'
The purple haired woman turned to me, eyebrow raised as she waited for me to continue. I took a deep breath.
'Megan's abilities. Will they be passed onto the baby when it's born?'
Wicke placed a finger on her chin, furrowing her brows as she thought of an answer. When she did she once again looked at me and shook her head. 'I shouldn't think so. Megan can do what she does because her soul is connected with a Silvally, not because she is half Pokemon.'
'That makes sense...' I sighed, closing my eyes.
'Young master... You do know she might not be able to have the child, right?'
I opened my eyes and frowned at her 'What?
'The deadline is drawing near, Gladion... It pains me deeply to tell you this, but it's been four years and we have not found even a clue to curing Megan. I don't... I don't think we can save her.'
I felt two emotions rush through my body, one being sadness and the other anger. 'Excuse me? That sounds like you're giving up!'
'I am doing nothing of the sort! I just don't want you to have false hope.'
Tears began welling up in my eyes, and I covered my face with my hand. I heard Wicke sigh.
'Trust me, Gladion. I don't want to accept it either. But, we may have to... Megan may not live to bear hers and your child...'
My eyes shot open, and I gasped loudly while sitting up on my bed. I must've accidentally fallen asleep...
I ran a hand through my hair, trying to steady my breathing as the dream kept repeating in my mind.
No... It wasn't a dream... It was a memory.
I felt something wet drop onto my leg, which was when I noticed I was crying. I silently cursed under my breath and wiped the tears from my face, before hearing a knock on my door.
'Yeah?' I called groggily.
The door opened, revealing a very tired looking Sun. His hair was messy and he wasn't wearing his beanie. He avoided eye contact, and his lower body remained behind the half opened door.
'Hey...' He murmured.
'Hi.' I responded in a similar tone, but it held a pinch of confusion. 'What do you need?'
'Uhm...' He ruffled his hair. 'Megan... Kinda fell asleep on the couch downstairs. I was just wondering if it was alright if I brought her up here.'
'Why would you need permission for that?' I raised an eyebrow 'You'd only be bringing her to her room.'
'I know that,' He paused, before finally making eye contact with me 'I just thought, ya know, after what happened earlier this morning you wouldn't want to see me... And I don't know if you and Megs are on good terms right now.'
'Oh... Yeah okay I see your point.' I pursed my lips 'It's fine for you to bring her in.'
Sun nodded before disappearing down the corridor. I'd say it was about twenty minutes until he came back in, carrying a sleeping Megan in his arms. He looked at me, as if he wanted me to take her. I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and walked over to him, holding Megan close to me as soon as he handed her to me.
'Thanks, Sun.' I whispered.
He nodded and turned around to leave, only to stop in the doorway. He turned to me once again with a guilty expression.
'I'm sorry for snapping at you, by the way. It was completely out of line...' He said softly, fiddling with his fingers.
'It's fine, Sun. You're under pressure, and I had no right of accusing you. For that I'm sorry.'
The ravenette chuckled lightly, stuffing his hands in his pockets 'Guess we're both in the wrong, huh?'
'Yeah I guess we are...'
Sun glanced at Megan once, then back at me 'Well... Goodnight, Gladion.'
'Night, Sun.'
With that he left quietly, closing the door behind him and leaving me and my sleeping girlfriend alone.
Megan squeaked quietly, telling me she was in fact dreaming. At least she was at peace right now, especially after everything that's been going on.
'Mmm, malasadas...'
I made a weird face as those words left her mouth, along with a bit of drool. Yep... Definitely at peace.
I sighed and walked over to the bed, gently placing her on it and pulling the covers over her. She immediately snuggled into the pillow, causing me to unknowingly smile. I crouched down and crossed my arms on the bed, resting my chin on them as I gazed at the girl in front of me. I reached a hand out to stroke her hair.
'Please don't leave me...'
(Leo POV)
'We really shouldn't be doing this, you know.'
'I'm aware.' I told the ravenette with my back facing him. 'But I'm pretty sure some of the guys have been giving them unnecessary beatings without the boss knowing. I have to make sure they're alright.'
'And... Why am I here?' Sagittarius asked boredly.
'Oh, you're gonna be the lookout.'
I heard him groan behind me.
We made it to the cells where the two prisoners were kept. Even though I couldn't see them, I could literally feel their misery from a mile away. Finally my companion and I found ourselves in front of the cell. We could see Luke sitting against the far wall, with Laura resting her head on his shoulder. Her eyes were closed, but I couldn't tell whether she was sleeping or just resting them.
'Psst, Luke.' I whispered loudly.
Luke lifted his head up to gaze at me, and raised an eyebrow 'Leo?'
Laura's eyes fluttered open and she too looked up at me. She seemed just as confused as her brother, but her expression changed into a scowl as soon as she saw who was next to me.
'What's he doing here?' She hissed.
'Woah, calm down sunshine.' Sagittarius held his hands up 'I'm just doing what Leo tells me to do.'
'What's that?'
'The 'lookout'' He clarified with quotation marks.
Luke tilted his head to the side 'Why do you need a lookout?'
'Technically we're not supposed to be here.' I explained 'We were given orders to leave you alone until further notice. As you can see, that's not what we're doing.'
'Rebels.' Laura snorted.
'Is that why you're not wearing your lab coats?' Luke asked.
I looked down at my orange and red hoodie 'Yep.'
'Why exactly are you here, though?' The brunette male frowned, watching me closely as I opened the cell door and closed it behind me.
'He has a suspicion that some of the douchebags have been beating you up for no reason.' Sagittarius explained through the bars.
Laura seemed to tense up at the sentence, and she placed a hand on her side in discomfort. Luke did the same to his shoulder. I sighed and walked over to them, kneeling in front of them and setting my first aid kit down next to me.
'So they did do something to you...?'
They nodded slowly.
'May I see?'
They exchanged glances for a second, before nodding again. Luke pulled down the collar of his shirt, revealing a large purple and red bruise on his shoulder. Laura lifted her shirt slightly, showing off a similar bruise running across her stomach. There are only two Pokemon in this incorporation able to inflict this type of damage. Gogoat and Touros.
'Capricorn and Taurus...' I growled under my breath.
'Hey, Ein.' I turned to the person on the other side of the bars, who kept his back turned to me.
'Did you just...?' He asked in his usual bored tone, but didn't turn around. I rolled my eyes.
'Yes, accidently, but that's not important. I may need your help after all.'
'What could you possibly need hel-' He asked while turning around, stopping himself as soon as he saw Luke and Laura's injuries. His tired eyes widened 'Oh sh*t...'
'Quit staring and help me!' I snapped.
He shook his head to snap himself out of it 'Oh, yeah, sure.' He answered, letting himself into the cell and kneeling down next to me. As he got a better look at the bruises he inhaled through his teeth 'That looks bad... Let me guess, Capricorn and Taurus?'
'Yep.'
'Those b*stards...'
I nodded in agreement and handed him an ice-pack 'You take Luke, I'll take Laura.'
'How come you get the girl?'
Luke and Laura gave him disgusted looks, while I raised an eyebrow at him. His face immediately flushed. 'Wait no I didn't- that's not what I meant I swear!'
'Uh-huh...' I smirked 'Sure...'
'Oh, shut up!' He scoffed before scooting next to Luke, placing a hand on his back and using the other to hold the ice-pack against his bruise. I did the same to Laura.
'Let me know if it hurts, okay?' we told them softly.
They nodded.
(Gladion POV)
I woke up to the sound of running water, which meant the shower was on. I must've fallen asleep soon after Sun brought Megan in. Speaking of Megan she must be the one in the shower, because she's not in the bed right now and I can hear her singing in the bathroom.
'I'm powerless - I'm meaningless, like every scar. But as I cry, tears fill inside, Right through my heart. Through it all, I can hear Someone whispering, "come near"'
The sound of her voice made me smile, just like it always has. The way she sings is just so full of emotion and feeling, almost like she's retelling a story through her voice. I chuckled slightly at the thought.
I took my phone out of my pocket and began looking through my emails, both to find if I had any paperwork due and to see if there's been any word on Matt and Liz. Though, it's going to be harder to find them now we know they've been kidnapped. By an organisation no less.
'SH*T!'
I turned my head to the bathroom door, raising an eyebrow. 'Megan, doll, you alright?'
'I'm good!' She replied 'Forgot to bring a towel in!'
I chuckled lightly at her reply, and went back to my phone. A few minutes later she came out the bathroom, her wet hair over her face making her look completely dead inside. Also she was completely naked. I whistled at the sight.
'Yea yea,' She growled, walking over to the chest of drawers 'You've seen all this many times before.'
'So? I've seen the sunset many times before too, and that still takes my breath away.' I retorted.
I heard her groan.
I caught myself staring at her scarred back. Even with those things I can't help but love her, so I don't understand why she's so insecure about them. I suppose I never will...
'Meg, that's my shirt.' I deadpanned, pointing at the black fabric in her hand. She stared me.
'Your point?'
'You know I don't like it when you use my shirts as pajamas.'
'Don't care.'
She pulled the shirt over her head and pushed her arms through the sleeves. It was huge on her, and came down to her mid-thigh. It had a picture of Silvally on it, making it look even more adorable on her.
'Oh hey it's raining.' She said monotonously, pointing to the window. I followed her gaze.
'Yeah they said it would be for the rest of the week.' I explained.
'Well, ain't that awesome.'
We suddenly heard a loud bang from the hall, causing us to whip our heads round to the door. Megan quickly rushed over, pausing for a moment before opening the door. She let out a high pitched gasp.
'Oh my Arceus!'
