Chapter 16: Rough night

(Megan POV)

Once I stepped out of my rather lengthy shower, I towel dried my hair as much as I could before wrapping a bathrobe around myself and heading towards the door. I huffed as soon as I entered the bedroom. 'Okay! All showered up and warm, are you happy now?'

Gladion didn't answer, as he was distracted with what looked like changing our bedsheets. My eyes drifted to Prince, who was now laying down in his bed with a towel wrapped around him. I looked back over to my boyfriend and coughed 'Ahem! Edgelord!'

'Hmm? Oh, yeah thanks babe.' He said, though his back was still turned to me.

I raised an eyebrow. 'What are you even doing?'

'Giving us clean bedsheets, isn't it obvious?' He responded while folding one of the muddy sheets.

'Yeah but why?'

'Because I'm not sleeping in a bed that smells like earth and wet Umbreon.'

'Um!' Prince lifted his head up to stare at the boy 'Excuse you!'

I shrugged, before sitting on our freshly made bed and sighing, again. Gladion took notice of this and sat down next to me.

'Are you okay? You haven't been yourself since... you know.'

I nodded, leaning back and looking up at the ceiling 'I'm alright. Just a little stressed is all.'

Gladion nodded in understanding, before placing a hand on my bare knee 'Well if you ever need to talk, I'm always here.'

'I know...' I breathed, glancing at him from the corner of my eye 'And same goes for you. Wanna talk to someone, I'll be there so fast you won't be able to even shed a tear.'

Gladion let out a small chuckle 'What are you, the Flash?'

'I may as well be!'

We laughed a little, but because of the situation it didn't last long. We were both worried, and as much as we tried to hide it still showed. With yet another sigh, I leaned on Gladion and rested my head on his shoulder. He allowed it, and even wrapped an arm around me to pull me closer. It was silent, but a comfortable one. Prince seemed to want to join in, as he trotted up to us, jumped up and curled up onto my lap. I began gently stroking his fur, which was now dry but had bits of dirt stuck in it. Looks like someone needs a bath!

I let out a yawn, snuggling deeper into Gladion as I slowly shut my eyes 'Mmm, I'm tired...'

'I'm not surprised. No one's really been sleeping after the news got out.' Gladion replied as he nestled his face into my hair 'To be honest it's pretty concerning.'

'Yeah...'

We both slowly started to fall asleep, and we almost did, but I was jolted awake by a sudden wave of sickness which caused me to cover my mouth. As gently, but quickly as I could I pushed Prince onto the bed next to me and made a mad dash for the bathroom, not stopping to answer the calls that came from either him or my boyfriend. I fell to my knees in front of the toilet, and began violently throwing up into it. I heard Gladion's feet thump against the carpet of the bedroom, and then the tiles of the bathroom as he stood over me.

'Like what you see?' I asked sarcastically, before puking once again.

'No... Not at all.' The male muttered as he knelt down next to me and placed a hand on my back, probably to remind me he was here to help whenever I needed it. The vomiting lasted for another two minutes before ceasing, which left me aching and completely exhausted. I leaned my back against the wall with my legs to my chest and my head in my hands.

'I do not want to go through that again...' I grumbled weakly 'It felt like my f*cking throat was giving birth!'

I'm pretty sure if it were under different circumstances, Gladion would've laughed at my statement. But instead he shuffled in front of me and placed a hand on top of my head.

'Do you know what caused it?' he asked.

'No not really.' I replied, looking up at him with a weak frown 'My health's fine, I haven't eaten anything that would cause food poisoning and I definitely haven't been drinking. The only thing out of the ordinary is the fact I've been having weird food cravings. And what happened just now.'

'You mean the 'throat labour'?' Prince chimed in as he (finally) entered the room.

'Hahaha- shut up.'

'Maybe it's a girl thing?' Gladion suggested 'Perhaps you should talk to Rose and Lillie about it. And even Ashe if she's up for it.'

I nodded 'Yeah I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I can talk to Wicke and your mother about it too...'

Gladion visibly tensed at the mention of his mother, but hesitantly nodded anyway. I raised an eyebrow at him, but shrugged it off because I knew he didn't want to talk about it by the way he moved.

'Well anyway... do you feel like throwing up again?' he asked.

'No, I feel fine now.'

'That's a relief. Though I think we should have a bucket near the bed just in case.'

I nodded 'Smart idea, Brainion.'

'... What?'

'Brainion. You know, Brain mixed with Gladion.'

Gladion didn't reply, and just stared at me with an 'I-am-not-impressed' expression. This made let out a giggle, since I was slowly regaining my strength. Ugh, stupid icky vomit!

'Well anyway,' Gladion began as he put his arms under me and lifted me up bridal style. 'I think it's time for you to go to bed. You've had a long day.'

'But it's only-' I checked my watch '-nine fifteen. No one goes to bed at this time.'

'True, if they're not sick.' Gladion shot back while carrying me to the bed.

'I'm not sick thou-'

*BOOM*

I was cut off by a loud noise from outside, followed by a sudden flash of light which made me wrap my arms around Gladion's neck in panic 'W-was that...?'

*CRASH*

I screamed and buried my head into Gladion's chest, as images of the experiment and tests appeared in my mind. Gladion clutched my body protectively as I felt him sit down on what I presumed was the bed, before he set me onto his lap and began slowly rocking back and forth with me in his arms. I flinched as I heard another set of thunder, which only made the male hold me closer.

'This is gonna be a long night...' I heard him mutter to himself.

(Meanwhile - Luke POV)

*BOOM*

Laura flinched under her bedsheets as the storm raged on outside. There weren't any windows in our cell, but the cold stone walls obviously weren't soundproof. I stared at my sister's figure on the other side of the room, since our 'beds' were stationed as far apart as possible, and ran a hand through my messed up hair before sighing.

'You holding up okay?' I asked, staring through the bars of our cell.

'Never better.' Laura spat in a sarcastic tone 'Though I doubt Megan can say the same thing. Poor thing must be petrified right now.'

'She has 'Frenchfry' with her. She'll be okay, I'm sure.'

My sister and I had decided on calling Gladion 'Frenchfry' for the time being. Because we were almost certain the people who had captured us would want our sister too, and so we didn't want to give them an idea on where she might be since we were being watched 24/7. Kinda creepy once you say it out loud.

'I guess you're right...' Laura muttered, and her head finally popped out from the grimy white sheet she was taking shelter under. 'Have... You tried transforming again?'

'No. The last few times weren't pretty, so how would trying again be any different?' I scoffed, staring at the metal band attached to my upper arm from the corner of my eye.

'Well I'm willing to take that risk!' Laura stated with a louder voice than I think she wanted.

'Laura, I wouldn-'

I was cut off as Laura enveloped herself in an orange light, telling me she was attempting to transform. However, like all the other attempts she was zapped with blue electricity from her metal band, causing her to scream in agony and end the transformation.

'Laura!' I gasped, running over to her and holding her close to me 'What did I tell you?!'

Another sound of thunder filled the room, followed by a sigh which came from outside the cell.

'Why do you even keep trying? You'll only end up hurting yourself.' The male stated boredly, running a hand through his raven black hair as he stared at us with green eyes, which glowed in the dark area he stood in.

'Leave us alone, Sagittarius!' Laura hissed, using me for support as she weakly sat up 'Let us suffer in peace!'

The scientist sighed, finally stepping into the light as he stared at us with tired eyes. 'Sorry but I can't do that. It's my turn to watch you losers for the night, so you're kinda stuck with me...'

'Oh, our own little slumber party. Yaaaaay.' My sister strained sarcastically, throwing her arms up in the air. I'm pretty sure under other circumstances I would've laughed at her obviously fake enthusiasm.

'Can it, Sunny. I'm missing a good night's rest for this.'

'Sunny?!' She scoffed with an irritated smirk. 'And I'll have you know we're missing our lives for this!'

'Welp. Sucks to suck...'

'Sucks to su- FIGHT ME YOU GREEN A** H-'

'Laura!' I snapped, slapping a hand over her mouth as she screamed random insults 'It's highly unnecessary to insult them.' I glared at Sagittarius from the corner of my eye 'No matter how much they deserve it.'

'Tch, whatever...' The ravenette yawned, before sitting down on the cushioned chair which was provided for whoever's sent down to watch us. It looked much more comfortable than our cell beds, that's for sure. 'Just keep it down, kay? It's bad enough I have to deal with-'

*BOOM*

'-Yeah, that...'

I groaned in irritation, before finally letting go of Laura and making my way to my own bed. I sat on it, feet dangling off the edge, and stared to the side at the wall at the back of the cell.

'Ashley... Emilee... Megan... Please be alright...'

(Ashley POV)

'Come on... Oh for the love of Arceus where are you?!' I thought to myself as I walked around the silent streets of Alola. My Lopunny trailed behind me, and kept a close eye on me so I didn't end up running off again. Or worse yet, collapsing from exhaustion like I have done many times in the past two weeks. I didn't care! I just wanted to find my fiance!

'Lopun!' My Lopunny's low growl brought me out of my thoughts, and I turned around to meet its gaze.

'Let's keep looking. They have to be somewhere.' I told it in my now shaky voice as I pulled my wet hair out of my face. Lopunny let out a concerned squeak, as if to tell me we should start heading back. 'No, Lopunny! We have to find them! We have to find him! I'm not gonna give up until-' I cut myself off as my world started to spin and my footing became unsteady. Lopunny gasped, before catching me and allowing me to lean on her for support.

'Lopunny! Lopun!' She growled concerned, which I knew meant 'That's enough'. I sighed.

'Fine... We'll go back... I miss Emilee anyway...'

Lopunny nodded, before helping me walk down the gravel path. I looked up at the dark grey sky, feeling the rain crash down on my face. My fiance's face appeared in my mind, causing my eyes to tear up slightly.

'Please be alive out there...'

(Gladion's POV)

I sighed as I finally got Megan to sleep, though her body did flinch every now and then. I suspect she's dreaming about the experiment again... I sighed and hugged her sleeping frame close to my chest, combing my fingers through her hair. It was still slightly damp at the ends, but that didn't bother me. The scar on her face caught my eye though, which caused me to grit my teeth.

'Mother did this...'

I still hadn't forgiven my mother for what she had done to me, to Lillie, or to Megan. Though I act like I have, because I know she's changed and that everyone else forgives her. But... It just seems like, because of all the sh*t she's put me through, I just can't put it aside. And right now the girl I love is suffering because of her.

'... It's because of my mother Megan might be taken from me...'

My vision blurred from tears appearing in the brims of my eyes as soon as the thought crossed my mind, causing my lip to quiver and my jaw to clench tighter. I breathed through my teeth as I stared down at my sleeping girlfriend, who once again flinched from whatever f*cked up monstrosity she was dreaming about. I sniffled, holding her even closer and burying my face in the nape of her neck.

'... It's because of mother we're both broken.'
