Chapter 15: How can they just vanish?!
(Megan POV)
'Matthew! Lizzy!' I called for the fifth time in three minutes, trying to catch a glimpse of the two masked siblings. Even a sign of them could've sent me on track to find them. Nothing...
I nuzzled deeper into my coat as the wind blew against my body, while also shielding my face with my arm from the freezing cold rain which crashed down.
'Of all the times they could've gone missing...' I muttered to myself, pulling my hood up even further 'It had to be close to a storm...'
It had been almost two weeks since Matt and Liz's disappearance, and since then literally everyone I knew has been out daily to look for them. Gladion and I had sent our employees to search every inch of Alola, Rose and Guzma asked the grunts of Team Skull to 'keep an eye out', Lillie and Hau have been hanging up missing posters ever since we were confirmed that they were missing, Ashley is out day and night to search without a wink of sleep... Sun had even closed the Pokemon League to help search. Their disappearance has been on the news, police have been informed, word was sent out to other regions... And still nothing!
I growled in irritation, hitting my forehead multiple times with my hand 'How can two adults wearing masks just... vanish?!'
Prince stopped walking from my outburst and turned to me, a worried expression on his face. 'Stop that. You'll end up with a bruised face.'
'Does it look like I care right now, Prince? Two of my friends are missing!' I snapped, before shielding my face from yet another gust of wind.
'I know...' He began walking towards me slowly, his blue rings glowing to light up the area 'But that's why we gotta keep looking for them, instead of beating ourselves up over it.'
'But--'
'No buts! You can't keep over thinking this. It's bad enough Ashe has been losing sleep over all this! We're all worried about them, trust me I know. That's why we need to stay in high spirits and find them.'
I stared at him in shock, before averting my gaze and sighing 'You're right... I'm sorry...'
'Don't apologize to me. Apologize to your head.'
I laughed sarcastically, before taking my hand out of my pocket and looking down at my watch. Eight thirty pm. I sighed. 'It's getting late. We should be heading back.'
'Good idea. I don't know about you but I'd rather not get a cold from this weather.' Prince replied, shaking drops of rain from his wet black fur.
'Do you think Ashley's still out?'
'Probably... But her Lopunny will be able to get her to come home. And I'm sure Wicke is looking after Emilee as we speak so I wouldn't stress too much.'
'I guess you're right...'
Prince and I nodded towards each other, before turning towards the direction of Aether and walking towards it. Since the sky was way too wild to take to the skies on Draco, we decided to use the pager Sun had leant me for the day to get there on water. I pressed the Sharpedo option on the device and not five seconds later the shark Pokemon swam to our aid. I gently climbed on its back, before holding out my arms for Prince to jump into.
(Slight Timeskip)
'Thank you, Sharpedo.' I told the Pokemon, gently patting its nose with a small smile. The water type gave me a happy growl before it dove back into the depths of the ocean. I sighed as I turned to Prince, who was giving me a look of concern. I smiled at him, showing him I was okay. He nodded back, before leading the way to the house with me trailing behind. As soon as I opened the door Prince dashed in to meet the comforting warm air which welcomed us. I exhaled as I took off my soaking coat, scarf and fingerless gloves and threw them onto the nearby radiator to dry, also kicking off my boots in the process. Prince shook his coat again, almost creating a puddle around him while I squeezed as much rainwater out my hair as I could.
The two of us walked silently upstairs and down the halls to my room. I ran a hand through my hair as I opened the door, while staying as quiet as I could to not wake Gladion. To my surprise though he was already awake, sitting up in bed with the bedside lamp on while reading a book. He looked up after hearing the door open, meeting my gaze immediately. 'Hey, love.' He smiled
'...Hi' I said glumly, opening the door all the way and walking in. Gladion's smile immediately changed to a frown.
'Jesus Christ you're soaking!'
My eyes flickered down to look at myself, before looking back at Gladion and narrowing 'No, really? I didn't notice...'
'Don't give me sass, missy!' He scolded, jumping out of bed and walking up to me 'And get into that bathroom this instant!'
My head turned to the bathroom, and I stared at it with a bored expression 'Why though...?'
'One, to get out of those wet clothes. Two, to shower and get you warmed up.'
'But--'
'No buts! Go!'
I opened my mouth to protest, before letting out a tiny sneeze which shut me up. I slumped my shoulders and groaned 'Fiiiiine!' I dragged before looking over his shoulder to the bed. The sight made me smirk 'And while I'm doing that you can try and get Prince to stop dirtying up our bedsheets.'
Gladion gave me a confused look, before looking over to our bed and widening his eyes. There Prince was, rolling on the sheets and leaving wet and muddy patches everywhere. 'Prince! Come on those are brand new sheets!' Gladion yelled, running over to (attempt to) get the Pokemon to stop.
I let out a small laugh as I made my way to the bathroom, closing it behind me and walking over to the mirror. I stared at myself with a glum expression, running my fingers down the scar on my face and sighing 'This would've been so much worse if those two hadn't of come to our rescue...'
(Meanwhile)
(Third POV)
The room was erupting with chatter, as twelve scientists sat at a large table. Exactly six on each side. However, two more presences sat in silence at one end, staring down at their laps as they silently listened to the many conversations. They hadn't spoken since they were brought to the room and tied to their chairs, which was about two hours ago. Why would they speak? They were brought here against their will. Their brown locks didn't show their eyes, but their expressions could be seen by the way they shaped their mouths. They remained in straight lines, the same as they had since they arrived.
At last the doors on the other side of the room opened, letting in a hooded figure who was followed by a Dusknoir. The room fell silent as the scientists paused their conversation to stare at the person, while the two siblings didn't even flinch. The man slowly made his way to the end of the table opposite the individuals, not caring that all eyes were on him. He cleared his throat, causing the room to give him eager glances, before speaking in a loud clear voice.
'So I see the task that was asked of you was a success. That is most pleasing to me.'
The room erupted with cheers, as scientists shook hands and congratulated each over. It silenced however as the Dusknoir let out a low growl. The man continued.
'Our work isn't done, however. From the reports I've received the two prisoners seem resistant, and refuse to give the information we require.'
The man's gaze locked onto the two figures at the end of the table, his stare turning to a scowl.
'You! Look at me!' He ordered, pointing at them with his index.
The boy flinched slightly while the girl pursed her lips together to hold in a gasp, but neither lifted their head to lay their eyes upon who was speaking. But suddenly a crash was heard, making them and everyone else sitting at the table jolt.
'I said: LOOK AT ME!'
The two winced, but slowly looked up for the first time in days to stare at the man. The scientists gasped as they saw their faces. Their brown eyes were dull, and had dark circles under them. The female looked as if her cheek had been struck, while the male had a bruise under his lip. Although their expressions were emotionless, their eyes visibly held fear.
'I assume you're ready to give us the answers we're looking for?' The man questioned, though it sounded more like a command.
Luke and Laura said nothing, and only blinked slowly as some sort of response.
'Answer me!'
'Why should we?' The girl spat. Her voice was low and shaky, and seemed to be rather dry from all the crying she'd done in her cell. 'Even if we did know the answers, it's not like it'll benefit us if we told you.'
The man, though his eyes weren't visible, visibly smirked from under his hood. 'Oh dear. It seems like I hit a nerve. I hate disobedient children, you know.'
'Well, sir, we aren't children.' The boy spoke this time, in a harsh mocking tone.
'You were, once.' the man chuckled lowly, yet his voice had taken a more menacing tone 'I remember it well. My perfect little creations~'
The girl squinted at his words 'What the f*ck are you talking about?'
'You know exactly what I'm talking, Matthew and Lizzy Zarack. Or should I say... Luke and Laura Artemus.'
The siblings' eyes widened as that name reached their ears. Luke was the first to speak 'H-How do you-'
'It's hard to forget. After all...' The man pulled down his hood, revealing sandy blonde locks and aqua irises 'We are family.'
Luke and Laura sat there frozen, eyes wide and mouth agape at the sight of the man they remember very clearly.
'D-Dad...?!'
