Chapter Five

"How did they get in? There were over a hundred guards!" Tom barked, running his fingers through his hair.

"I don't know. This seems like it was being planned from long ago," Gabriel said, folding his arms across his chest.

"A hundred guards were found dead. How many men infiltrated the kingdom to steal the Princess?" The head of the castle guards said.

Adrien sat in silence as he watched the men argue back and forth.

This was a waste of time. They sit here aruging and they won't even get a step closer to finding Marinette.

Sabine was sitting beside her husband, as quiet as a mouse. Her head down and her hands folded on her lap.

Adrien stood up, catching the attention of everyone in the room.

He turned and walked out, feeling everyone's eyes on his back.

He walked into the bathroom and shut the door behind him.

He studied his face.

Bags were under his eyes and his hair was disheveled. He was mess.

He was exhausted. The only time he slept in the past few days was last night. And it was only because Adrienne begged him to and she started to cry.

Unconsciously, tears started to roll down his cheeks.

He sat on the covered toilet, his head in his hands.

The door slowly opened and Adrienne stepped in.

She stood in front of him then he wrapped his arms around her and started to cry on her stomach.

She ran her fingers through his hair.

"I'm tired," He sobbed.

"I know,"

Silence.

"I miss her,"

"I know,"

He clutched her shirt tighter.

"I hope she's okay," He whispered.

"Me too," She replied.

Marinette fell to the floor, unconscious, as the whip came in contact with her back for the last time.

"Oh shit," Nathaniel said dropping the whip.

He had went too far with the punishment.

Blood was gushing out of the slashes on her back, wetting the wedding dress that she still wore.

Nathaniel ran a shaky hand through his hair and walked over to the unconscious princess.

He kneeled, picked her up and held her to his chest.

"I'm sorry, my love. I might have went too far with your punishment. You shouldn't have tested me," He stroked her face lovingly, her cheek cold as ice under his fingertips.

"Couffaine!" Nathaniel yelled and a guard rushed to his side.

"Yes sir?" The guard with dyed tips answered.

"Get me a nursemaid," Nathaniel ordered, still gazing down at the unconscious princess in his arms.

"Yes sir," The guard said, letting his eyes run over the girl that layed in Nathaniel's arms.

He shook his head and walked away.

'Poor girl,' He thought before going to fetch a nursemaid for the Prince.

Sabine sat up on the bed when she heard the door slam shut.

"T-tom," She stuttered.

"People are beginning to question if you're okay, Sabine. It's becoming annoying," He spat.

Sabine didn't answer. She was afraid he would hurt her if she said the wrong thing.

"You need to stop acting so soft and timid!" He barked, gripping her hair and she winced.

"I-I'm sorry, Tom,"

"You're sorry?!" His nostrils flared and Sabine cowered in fear.

Sabine's cries in the room, as Tom hit her, went unheard by all the people in the castle for the room was soundproof.

"P-pleae stop, T-Tom," She cried and Tom let out a huff before storming out of the room, leaving Sabine in a sobbing heap on the floor.

Everywhere hurt. He always did this and she just took it. She tried fighting back several times, but Tom is a big man, her tries were useless.

She slowly picked herself up off the floor, letting out cries of pain in the process. She limped slowly over to the bathroom in the room.

She closed the door and begun to strip down. Looking in the mirror, she took note of the bruises beginning to form all over her body.

Her left eye was turning bruising.

Bruises were beginning to form on her stomach and sides. Her cheek was also swollen.

Her eyes welled up with tears when she touched her throbbing eyes. It hurts. It hurts so much.

For a while, she stood in the bathroom, sobbing. The pain she felt was almost unbearable. But it wasn't the pain of battered and bruised body. It was the pain she felt in her heart.

She then started to fill the bathtub with hot water. Just like she always did after Tom beats her. Full the tub and and sit in it crying.

When the tub was filled she slipped in, liking the feeling of the hot water on her skin.

She sat there crying for only God knows how long.

She closed her eyes.

A hand then touched her cheek and her eyes flew open only to be met with the apologetic eyes of her husband.

"Honey, I'm sorry I hit you so badly. I-it's just that I'm under so much stress. Marinette ran away and I don't know what to do," Tom stated, bringing up his other hand to cup her cheeks.

'She didn't run away and you know that!' She wanted to scream in his face, but she couldn't take another beating.

"I'm sorry. I'm so so so sorry," He repeated over and over peppering her face with light, loving kisses.

This was what she missed. Her loving and caring husband. The one that never hit her. The one that was always there for her. The one that was so calm and sweet.

She knew he was in there somewhere, but he's just covered up by a cold-hearted monster.

Tom bathed his wife, dried her body, iced her bruises then dressed her.

He layed her in their bed before climbing in with her and wrapping in arm around her still bruised waist.

"I love you," He said placing a small kiss on the back of her neck.

"I love you too," She replied softly.

It's sad that it was true.
