Prologue

You know, I am tired of being the damsel in distress. I was the weakest girl with my face, I got kidnapped, and brainwashed, and couldn't even win a duel when there was a parasite dueling for me. And now, many years later, my brother is going into angry bird mode, Yuto is no where to be seen, the ending of Arc-V was never explained, and how the Hell did I even get my own body back anyway?

Much less a kid.

I must have fallen into a fanfiction. Yes, that's it. That has to be it. There is no other plausible way that I could be stuck in the Zexal dimension. Seriously, since when was Kaito able to fly? And who is that hyperactive kid with a crab for hair? He reminds me of Yuya, the main character, that I never really had a genuine interaction with.

This night reminds me a lot of that other one. The one before the XYZ dimension was attacked; I was wandering aimless through the night, instead of being smart and walking with the group. But then again, back in those days, my brother could be a giant prick so any other person but me would have safely been able to walk off on their own. But since I am me, I cannot take a walk on my own without without getting hunted and kidnapped.

That is the sad, and terrible fate of those with my face.

But jeez, just being from the XYZ dimension, I had so much potential, and what part do I get stuck with? Damsel in distress, running through a wrecked city on a clear night. And where the Hell did this kid come from? Damn, the continuity in this place is horrible.

Ruri paused to take a breath. Much to her dismay she was getting chased again. All this time had passed and she was still getting chased down dark allies with no one around in the middle of the night. She didn't even have time to steal her brother's duel disk so she could card the bastard or send him to a different dimension.

"Momma, I'm scared." A small child tugged tugged at the hem of her shirt, a pair of wide pink eyes reflected what little light existed in the dark.

You know, if this were a properly written fanfic, we would have time to explain all this. Where everyone went, why the dimensions are so messed up, why everyone suddenly has their own bodies back, what the four dimensional dragons are doing, what was Zarc, why Arc-V seemed like a fanfiction written by Akaba Reiji instead of a normal Yu-Gi-Oh! show, and other important questions like that. But since this was a spur of the moment spoof born from the chatter of cosplay and overactive Yugi-Tubers, we can just skip over important questions like those and get to the meat of the problem.

Obviously the author has too much writing experience to give you some shit you find on fanfiction.net. This wattpad is a classy place, where you can make it as an author if you try hard enough or love One Direction or have a dirty mind -- but you better categorize your story properly or she will take her ambassador powers and stick them up your ass.

So anyway, now I am back to being the damsel...again. And something tells me I'm about to join the eternal Yu-Gi-Oh! pantheon of bad parents.

Ruri hugged the small child to her side and shot a guarded glance over her shoulder. The sky was becoming clouded and the mist of the night was just scraping the edge of the moon. Soon it would get even darker, and with the city still being rebuild, the night life wasn't fantastic. A shadow darted at the corner of her peripherals, but when she turned to look. It was gone.

"Keep moving," she decided. "There's no hope for me. I'm a bracelet girl, therefore there is no possible way that I will get any satisfactory character development in this story, but you. You still have a chance." She knelt down and carefully combed the young girl purple and black locks away from her face.  Ruri's memory was hazy because her backstory in this fic was not adequately thought out, so she was surprised to find how much her child looked like Yuto. She found it a little uncanny, because even though Yuto was a nice person to look at and all, she never thought she'd get into a serious relationship with him, much less have a child...with...

Oh ew. They did that?

Ruri shuddered. Maybe it was better that she didn't remember.

"Kurosaki Kayda," she whispered and wiped a tear from the young girl's cheek. Secretly she wondered what the girl's name would have been if any of the Yuboys, aside from Yuya, were developed well enough to have a last name. Ruri pulled a card out of her duel disk and handed it to the child. "I stole this from your father, but seeing as he probably won't ever see you again, I don't think he'll hate me too much for giving this to you."

Kayda took the card in her tiny fist and her large eyes grew larger. "Dark Rebellion? Why?"

"Trust me on this, as a bracelet girl and someone who has suddenly adopted the same plot foreshadowing powers of Rio Kamishiro, I know you'll need it more than we will."

"Aren't you guys going to disappear into the abyss after I escape?" The little girl whispered.

"Yeah," Ruri nodded.

"Wouldn't having one of the dimensional dragons help you out?"

"Probably."

"Then why are you giving this to me?"

"You need something to establish your identity throughout the rest of the story. " Ruri rose to her feet and pulled Kayda into a run. "Now repeat after me. I am the protagonist."

"I am the protagonist," Kayda echoed.

"Being a female doesn't matter."

"Being a female doesn't matter."

The shadow grew closer, sweeping over the road and spreading clouds over the moon. Ruri could feel the darkness spreading over her heart, and her teeth went on edge. Kayda's hand was slipping from her own, but that only prompted her to run faster.

I don't even know what's chasing me this time.

What few streetlights were lit, sparked faded to black. Kayda began to stumble and whimper. Ruri's breath clouded before her lips.

"Screw history."

"S-screw history," Kayda blubbered and rubbed her eyes with her sleeve.

"Xyz summoning is the best summoning."

"Xyz summoning is the best summoning."

They were almost at the inter-dimensional gateway when the ground started shattering. Cracks drew lines across the ground, allowing black steam to rise up from below. Ruri's eye furrowed as she pulled her daughter along. She was getting really, really tired of this damsel thing. The shadows began to grow up from the ground before them and the two of them were forced to a stop. A figure of darkness emerged from the shadow, cold and anger oozing from its soul the same way Seto Kaiba's did after losing to Yugi in the Battle City finals, just no where near as potent.

Ruri closed her eyes and brought her duel disk front and center, her purple monster card zone casting a gentle glow over her face. "I am invincible."

Kayda whimpered and hid behind her mother's legs.

"Repeat it," Ruri snapped and braced her stance as the shadows began to swirl in every direction at once. In a few moments there would be no where else to run. "I am invincible."

"I -- I am invincible." The child sobbed and buried her face into her mother's leg.

Ruri faltered and quickly knelt to smother the girl in her arms. When she opened her eyes, they were bright with unshed tears and she pressed her lips to her daughter's hair before prying away. "Now run," she whispered.

Kayda looked up fearfully. "What?"

"Run," Ruri repeated but this time with more urgency. "You'll need to fulfill your new role as the protagonist without me! Take back all the screen time that was taken from me and your father by that egao hack! Go!"

She threw several cards onto her disk and didn't bother explaining her maneuvers, because it's not like the shadow monster was going to follow the rules of duel monsters, so as long her disk didn't backfire and electrocute her, it was fine that she didn't explain every move she did. Screw the shadow thing if it couldn't understand what she was doing. "What is it about the word 'go' do you not understand?"

"I'm not leaving you!" Kayda wailed shrunk back away from the swirling darkness.

"Jeez, you're just like Yuto. You have to be his child. Go kid, now!"

The Shadow suddenly summoned three very angry looking monsters. Ruri cursed. "Damnit, he just summoned a bunch of monsters in one turn. He probably has some pendulum cards. But since I'm an under used character, I don't. Agh, I hate my life."

The girl took a tentative step back.

"I am invincible," Ruri insisted. "Repeat it. Believe it."

"I am invincible," Kayda whispered.

"I'll be right behind. Go!"

The first monster launched its attack.

"Go!"

Kayda started running. "I am invincible." She chanted. I am invincible. I am invincible.

"I activate my --"

Ruri's screams faded into the background as Kayda dove headlong into the portal.

I am invincible.

I am invincible.

I am ...
