Not All Grim and Gravy
Lately, I've been using the Wattblog as a quick, unfortunately bleak, insight into my life. It's been rough, BUT, it hasn't been all dark, grim, and awful. There have been some fantastic moments mixed in there that in my more exhausted moments I realize I haven't properly celebrated.
Toronto Wattcon 2017
After a great deal of planning, extra odd jobs, and maneuvering, I made it up to Toronto (no joke, a ten hour drive one way) It was a glorious, absolutely exhausting, and euphoric couple of days. I saw people I've known online for years, some in person for the first time, and some a second time. I truly didn't think I was going to make it but it all came together and it was worth it. I hugged a lot of people. Several times. And I made that same doofy face in just about every photo.
Anthology Queen
Aside from Wattcon shenanigans, I have also been doing a lot of plotting, writing, and promotion. Not only have I participated in a handful of Wattpad anthologies, including the fabulous Jack dreamed up by ShaunAllan and GregCarrico (who I both met at wattcon, those fabulous gents), and TheCRYPTIC_ 's Laughing Crow, but I've been writing like a fiend off wattpad. By the end of November I will have had three commercial releases in two months, participating in numerous anthologies and sending in proposals/ signing up for more.
Everything from straight horror to steamy holiday romance, my writing CV is looking interesting these days. I am already slated for a couple more releases in early 2018.
Nanowrimo 2017
Updating of late has been difficult. Aside from concentration issues and upheaval at home, my current works in progress have suffered due to being bogged down in emotional turmoil. The desire to continue these stories is there, but they've meshed with personal stress to the point where sitting down to write a chapter of Blood Magic induced a panic attack. I am slowly separating those emotions, but needing a break from that internal emotional cauldron, I invested some time and energy into Nano.
To be frank, I am nowhere near the 50k mark. And I am perfectly fine with that. It wasn't about hitting the 50k for me so much as creation and untangling that terrible emotional knot in my chest. I tackled a genre I've never attempted before, Historical YA Fantasy, and I am pretty excited to share it with you in the coming months. Blood Magic and Edgewise will still take priority until finished but waiting in the wings will be:
Coming late 2017/ Early 2018
Future Plans
I had to do a great deal of reevaluating my grand plans for this year. I often set very lofty goals for myself and then feel awful about not meeting them. In the grand scheme, there are works in progress I want/need to finish. Off wattpad, I've been working on Happy Little Accidents with plans to find an editor and self publish when I can. There is no set date because certain factors have to align to make it happen. I will be pushing hard to finish Edgewise and Blood Magic. I have many stories to tell, but they need to get in line. I am trying hard to avoid the temptation of chasing plot bunnies.
My main goal: take it one day at a time.
