To take back wall Maria
After my rather unusual chat with the Captain I went back to my room to have a shower. When Petra was up and ready we went down for breakfast.
"Hey Drew, what do you think will happen now?" Asked Petra.
"What do you mean?"
"Well Trost now has a load of new people to look after and they already have a food shortage."
"Yeah I know. We'll pull through some how but that isn't our job. Our's is to focus on reclaiming wall Maria. The Garrison will deal with the refugees."
"Yeah I guess your right."
"Did you find out anything about how they got through the wall?"
"Apparently there were 2 new breeds of Titan. They are much bigger than any we have encountered before. They are calling them the Colossal Titan and the Armoured Titan."
"Sounds bad."
"Yeah, I mean of they come back they could easily break down wall Rose. Trost will be endangered too. Hermiha can't take people from Trost and Shinganshina, and there will be an even bigger food shortage."
"The higher ups must have a plan to sort this all out, but that plan might not be one we agree with."
"Are you thinking that they will send people out on a suicide mission to reduce the population?"
"It's possible but with them you can't ever tell. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens..."
We walked into the hall where we have breakfast and things. The rest of the squad where there, sat around the table, drinking coffee and chatting. Captain Levi was at the head of the table drinking his coffee in silence. The way he drank coffee always seemed strange to me. He placed his whole hand around the rim of the cup which made his hand look like some sort of claw. Then he sipped from the space in the gap between his thumb and index finger. His eyes travelled up to met mine when we entered the room. Petra took the last seat opposite the Captain so I stood up, leaning on her chair slightly behind her.
"Good morning you two." Said Oluo in his fake Captain Levi voice. Petra and I both simply nodded, we hated that fake Captain voice. It was so bad that it was as if he was mocking the Captain, which was not appreciated. It didn't seem to bother the other guys or the Captain himself but then again nothing really ever bothered the Captain. He was always to cool headed, with the same blank expression on his face. Even after fighting by his side for all these years, none of us had ever seen him smile, or show any real emotion for that matter. Petra poured two cups of coffee for us. The four of them began chatting but I stayed quiet as did the Captain, who I saw kept looking back up at me from the corner of my eye.
"We have a new mission." Said the Captain causing the others to fall silent. "It's very simple, we need to focus on taking back wall Maria. We are to defend carriages as they transport materials to the broken wall."
"But what the point in that Sir?" Asked Gunther.
"The plan it to keep transporting materials there until there is enough to fix the wall completely. As your all probably aware Trost is struggling to house it's people and the people from Shinganshina. If we can fix wall Maria, eliminate all the Titan's within it, then we will be safer and they can go home."
"But Sir by the time we have done that the food will surely be good." Said Oluo.
"There is a plan B but I would rather hope to avoid that road. If this plan fails then 100 people from Shinganshina will be sent on a mission to try and reclaim their homeland, but in reality it will be nothing more than a mission to reduce the population." The table became silent again. I thought something like this might happen. As cruel and heartless as it sounds it was the only way to survive. Their sacrifice will mean more food for everyone and we will be able to continue living. It will either by 100 people sent to an early grave by becoming Titan prey or thousands of people slowly dying of starvation. What a cruel world we live in. I thought, a world were we have to choose who lives and who dies just for our race to survive. Maybe we didn't deserve to live through this but then again if we just gave up now, all the work we put in to keep ourselves alive, all the soldiers that have already died to save humanity, all of that would mean nothing. No, we had to keep living, we had to keep fighting. No matter what the cost...
