The kids in the street
I walked around the streets of Trost, there were people everywhere. All starving, dirty and looking weak. There eyes told the horrors they had witnessed just a week before. We had got back not long ago. Bonnie was back in her stable and the Commander and the Captains left to talk about the next line of action. The others in my squad where else but I told Petra that I had to go somewhere and that I would be back soon. I had to find that woman that was looking for her Grandson. She had to know the truth, it wasn't my place to keep information like that from her.
"Hey kid everyone's hungry and starving so stop being ungrateful." Said a man from the Garrison as he pushed a little kid over. The kid fell to the floor and glared up at the soldier above him. The kid on the floor had green eyes and brown hair. One of the boys friends stepped forward. His guy had blonde hair that was chopped into a bob and big blue eyes. There was also a black haired girl but she stayed put.
"Please Sir he didn't mean it." Said the blonde haired boy.
"Step out if the way kid. Your friend wants a fight he can have one." Said the soldier. The brown haired boy got up and wiped the blood of his chin.
"That's fine by me. I can easily beat up someone like you. Someone that hides behind a wall instead of fighting for his race."
"Eren stop." The blond kid pleaded but his friend paid no attention to him. I began to walk closer to the commotion. Things were starting to escalate pretty quickly.
"You making fun of my division?" Said the soldier angrily.
"Not making fun just stating facts."
"Why you little..." Said the soldier as he lifted his fist up to hit the kid. That was when I leapt into action. I couldn't just let this continue anymore. I brought my hand up and stopped his fist mid air. The soldier stared at me in shocked and took his fist back down.
"You wouldn't really hit a kid would you?" I said with a scowl.
"The kid is being disrespectful." He said.
"Perhaps he was and maybe he was as he says simply stating facts. Either way neither gives you the right to strike a child."
"Wait Captain I know her." Said another soldier behind the man that was going to stroke the kid. "She's Drew Kimura, a member of the Levi squad. She came first in the class and she's the daughter of the previous Commander of the Survey corps."
"Really? Now what would someone like you be doing getting involved in Garrison business."
"It doesn't matter what division you are in. I'm not standing in front of this kid as a member of the Survey corps, I'm doing it as a citizen. Hitting a child is wrong, it doesn't matter where your from."
"You don't understand the situation here."
"I think I understand it better than you do. Perhaps I don't get the logistics but I understand on an emotional level. These people around you have witnessed terrible things. They have seen monsters that can make grown men shit themselves. They have been through hell and survived, so how about cutting them a little clack?" I said with a fake smile. He huffed and turned to leave.
"Out of my way." He shouted at the people that had crowded around to watch what was happening. I turned to the three kids behind me.
"You guys alright?" I asked.
"Are you really Drew Kimura?" Asked the brown haired kid.
"The one and only."
"I hear you've killed 153 Titan's solo and a 34 assists." He said with respect in his eyes.
"The amount of Titan's killed is relevant. The amount of lives that you save...that means something."
"That's why the call you the saviour of the Survey corps." Said the blonde haired kid.
"They do? I've never heard that name before. So tell me kid, you get into fights with the Garrison much?"
"Yeah guess so. They just don't take their jobs seriously enough and it's annoying."
"Maybe they should take their jobs more seriously but for someone thats never seen a Titan...well they just can't understand the danger. For those of us that haven't seen one of those beasts the danger seems almost unreal. Like it's far away and they're untouchable. Can you really hate them for just not understanding?"
"But wall Maria just fell. Protecting that is their job and even after that they don't change their ways." Said the boy getting angrier.
"Changing old habits is hard."
"When I join the survey corps things will be different. I'll slaughter every Titan in my path and take back wall Maria. I'll show them who's weak, those Titan's won't know what hit them."
"Some determination you've got there. Your loyalty to our cause is admirable but think before you join alright? I'm not saying don't, we need all the soldiers we can get but at the same time it's a scary world out there. This morning I went into your old district and there...there I found the head of a five year old boy. Just a head the body was nowhere to be found and before hand I was asked by a worried Grandmother to bring back her grandson. I didn't have the heart to tell her what I knew to be true then...but that little boy...that was her grandson."
"That's just more reason as to why they must all die."
"You three would have seen them right? The two new breeds of Titan's?"
"We did." Said the blonde haired boy sadly.
"Even after seeing such horrid things you still want to join our cause. Work hard and I'm sure that you will make a fine soldier but you can't rid the world of Titan's by yourself. From what I just saw it looks like you have some great friends. Don't forsake them, humanity must stay together if we want to pull through this nightmare. I never got a name."
"It's Eren. This is Armin and that's Mikasa." I looked at the silent girl.
"It was nice to meet the three of you. Perhaps we will met again in the future..."
