The damage done

I stood and watched as Commander Erwin looked at the large hole made in wall Maria. The others were back now and we were all still on the look out for Titan's. Captain Levi trotted up on his horse and stood beside me.

"I told you take to out the Titan not nearly get killed doing it." He said sounding a little angry.

"I didn't. Everything was under control."

"You nearly lost a leg."

"But I didn't." I said. I saw him glance to the side at me.

"Don't get cocky with me." He told me.

"It can't be done." I heard the Commander say from behind me. "We cannot fix this while there are Titan's in the area. I thought that it might be possible but now I see that it is not. Titan's will continue to pour in and we cannot stop them. This plan was a long shot anyway but now we know for certain that we cannot use this route again."

"But Sir how will we get out into the open?" Asked Oluo.

"We will have to form a new path. From Karanese perhaps. The path that so many soldiers have given their lives to form is no longer usable by us. To form a a new one it will cost the lives of a third of the survey corps, perhaps more. Even so we will not give up on this wall. It may take years but we can fix it, in the mean time plan B will have to be put into effect. Trost simply cannot hold that many people. The food is already dangerously low. Send out the signal, we will go back behind the wall now." He said as Captain Mike shot a can that released green smoke into the air. I sighed, a hundred people gone. Sent in to a mission that they had no hopes of winning. That was when I spotted Gunther. He was not on his horse and stood completely still staring at something that I couldn't see. His face was pale and he looked like he was going to hurl. I got of Bonnie and went to see him.

"Hey Gunther you alright?" I asked but then I saw what he was looking at. I felt bile rise in my throat as I stared at the head of a young boy. His body was nowhere to be found. He looked about 5 with blonde hair and brown eyes. I felt even more sick when I realised who his boy was. It had to be that woman's Grandson. The one she asked me to bring back. He was the perfect description that she gave me.

"He was so young." Gunther said quietly. I looked up to the sky not baring to look at the boy any longer.

"It shows you the scale of the war we are in doesn't it?" I said. "Here we are up against things that are much bigger, stronger and far more in numbers that we are. They don't care who we are, we are just food to them. That's it."

"But we must continue to fight." Said the cold voice of Captain Levi from behind us. "We are the ones that have to make sure that his death means something. Even though in the long run it won't. What can humanity possibly gain from such a young boy dying? Now Drew, Gunther it's time to leave."

"Yes Sir." Gunther and I said. Gunther walked off to find his horse but I stayed and pulled out a white handkerchief from my pocket. I opened it up and placed it over the young boys face.

"I hope that you find peace." I told him quietly. When I turned around I saw Captain Levi still there watching me silently.

"You have a kind heart Drew but I'm afraid that it will be that kind heart which gets you killed one day." He told me before walking off and leaving me to mount Bonnie.

"You know Bonnie the Captain confuses the hell out of me sometimes. He has been saying such weird things to me recently." I sighed and patted her neck. "Come on girl, let's go home..."
