Dedication
I was in the Captain's office cleaning up. I dusted, cleaned the floor and polished his desk. The team and I had no missions today. The higher ups had to think of a more reformed plan as of what to do about wall Maria. A rough plan was not enough to go out into the fields with. When we weren't on a mission we had to clean. Mostly because of the Captain's neat freak personality. He always leaves the cleaning of his office to me when he is busy. He normally does it himself but he had a meeting with the Commander. The others were else where doing the jobs that the Captain had set them. I was fairly good at cleaning and hardly ever had to redo my job. I made sure that I did it well mostly because it was an order from my Captain and I never wanted to let him down. I looked up when I heard the door to the Captain's office open. Captain Levi appeared and shut the door behind him, he normal emotionless face on.
"Good afternoon Si..." I stopped when I saw the scowl the Captain was giving me. "Levi." I said remembering our conversation from this morning. The Captain nodded at me and looked around the room.
"You've done a fairly good job."
"Thank you." I replied. I was tempted to add Sir on the end but if I did he would glare at me again. I didn't really want to use his name. I didn't know why but it felt strange to me. It felt disrespectful. He was my Captain and he deserved to be treated with respect, calling him by his name seemed to detract from that respect and I didn't like it. The Captain walked straight past her and sat at his desk, opening the file in his hands. "Is there anything else I can do, or should I leave?"
"You can come and look at this." He said motioning for me to come and stand beside him. I did as I was told, feeling a little awkward standing next to my Captain behind his desk. I looked at the documents in his hands and my eyes widened when I realised what it was.
"These are confidential documents are they?"
"They are."
"But I'm not in any position to see these."
"You are if I say you are. If the higher ups have a problem with it tell them I was the one that let you see them. Now Erwin asked me to look over these. It is the plan for the take back of wall Maria. Personally I think that's it's a waste of time."
"You do?"
"I do. It is a waste of time. There is no way that we can repair that wall while the Titan's are still pouring in. More and more come everyday."
"But still we must try. It we can get it back then it will be a miracle, humanity will be safer again. It the colossal titan and the armoured one reappear. Wall Rose and the district of Trost will fall too. It will not be long before they entered the heart of the city and if that happens humanity will be out of hope."
"Humanity has never taken land from the Titan's. The only thing we have achieved from trying to do that is lose more soldiers, more human life."
"It might be stupid and maybe you are right but I think what the Commander is trying to do is provide some kind of hope for everyone. At least with this we are taking action, we're doing something. The only other option is to stay behind the broken walls and wait for death to come to us. That's not what the survey corps is about. We cannot give up if we do...if we do them everyone that has so bravely laid down their lives in fighting for this cause...their deaths would mean nothing."
"You have complete faith in him don't you?"
"I do. He is a good Commander and respected by all of his subjects."
"Respect does not make someone a good leader Drew but I see your point. The way you look at things is admirable then again I would expect nothing less from the daughter of the ex Commander. Tell me what was your Father like?"
"I can not tell you much. I hardly ever saw him, he was always outside the walls or doing paperwork. The times that I did see him was spent training me to become a soldier."
"Is he the reason you joined the survey corps?"
"Partly but I also believe in the cause. Father never failed to tell me the true horrors of what laid out there. I think that maybe he thought that would put me off but it didn't. It only made me realise that I could not sit back and let all those people die. I had to help in anyway that I could."
"You really are something else Drew." He said getting out if his chair and placing the paperwork on his desk. He then lifted his hand up and took my chin gently and pulled me closer to him. I tensed, he was so close. "You are dedicated to the survey corps but how dedicated are you too me?"
"Very, you are my Captain. I would lay down my life for you."
"But you would lay down your life for anyone." He said sounding annoyed and letting go off her. "That's your problem Drew. You do not care for your life. You put everyone else above yourself. You don't think of your own happiness. You do not think about the pain and emptiness you might leave behind. You don't think about those that worry when you charge off into battle alone. Your on my squad Drew, I want you fighting beside me not on your own. I do not want to lose anyone in my squad, especially not you..."
