46. Finding Fillion
It was another morning in the Otto family and Dad was poring both me and Anna-Kat an orange juice. "Morning!" Mom said cheerfully.
"Morning." Dad said to her.
"Are you feeling okay?" I asked Mom. She wasn't usually this cheery. It was quiet creepy and scary. Maybe I'm in a dreamland.
"Mama, what happened? How come you're not wearing a wrinkle flannel shirt covered in food?" Anna-Kat asked her, at least I wasn't the only one picking up on Mom's identity shift.
'That's little kid for 'You look beautiful.'" Dad said to her and I looked at him. That didn't mean that.
"Hey, Google Translator, I know what I said." Anna-Kat said to Dad which made me smile a bit at her remark.
"Anna-Kat, do you have anything better to do besides abuse your parents?" Mom asked and her and she clearly didn't.
"Better? No." She said back and I smiled back at her.
"That's it. You're joining a team sport this spring." Mom said to her and I'm glad that wasn't me.
"Why?" She asked Mom and I smiled at her.
"Team sports build character and more importantly, makes you somebody else's problem for five hours a week." Mom said to her and I looked at Anna-Kat. Placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Sucks to be you kid." I said to her before picking my glass up and going upstairs. I then saw Oliver in his room.
"Why are you coming in here?" He asked me as I sat down at his desk.
"Because let's just say Mom's attacking. Taylor in her old prom dress and Anna-Kat being made to do sports. One of us is next." I said to him and he looked stood up and closed the door.
"Looks like we aren't leaving the room. Who knows what we'll be made to do." He said to me and that whole day we managed to keep out of he firing line. Even heading over to Cooper's to escape from her. But that night as the two of us and Anna-Kat were brushing our teeth she walked in.
"Alright, Anna-Kat, time's up. What sport is it gonna be?" Mom asked her and I was just too busy brushing my teeth.
"I'm gonna do flag football with Franklin. I need someone to teach me how to throw a spiral tomorrow." She said to Mom and I was glad that she'd found a sport.
"I can do it." Dad said to her with a smile, that would be good time together for them.
"You're adorable." Anna-Kat said before leaving and making me smile.
"So mean." Dad said to Mom whilst turning to face her.
"I'm curious, how are you going to teach Anna-Kat to throw a football? You use 'touchdown' and 'baskets' interchangeably." Mom said to dad and that was true. Dad how no idea what sports really was.
"I'm curious how you're gonna convince Nathan Fillion to ride an elephant through the Spring Gala." Dad said to her and I wanted to know that as well.
"Luckily, I am going with two 'Firefly' superfan's who will totally win over Nathan, then all I have to do is swoop in and make the ask." Mom said and Oliver and I looked at it each other before looking at Mom.
"Who's the Superfan's?" We both asked her at the same time and she looked at us.
"You two. You are gonna binge-watch all 14 episodes plus the movie tonight." Mom said to us and I looked at Oliver. I wasn't doing that.
"Why are we doing that?" Oliver asked her and I was not excited for my night.
"Because we're family, and when you're a part of a family, people who pay for your food force you to do things. Okay, I better get some sleep. And you both need to stay up all night. Binge or starve." Mom said to us and I looked at her. She wasn't mentally right.
"I'd rather starve." I said to her. There was no way I was watching that show.
"I've been around other families. This isn't normal." Oliver said to her. The two of us then went downstairs and had our night of watching. Popcorn was involved as a snack. When it came to morning we still weren't done.
"We just need a few more hours." I said to her as Oliver and I were heading outside.
"We're on episode 14, and we still have the movie to go. It's awesome. It's the Wild West in space. He's an enterprising smuggler who will do anything for money, so it's got heart." Oliver said as Mom then opened the door for us to get in.
"Trust me, who knew that we'd actually enjoy the show like we do." I said to Mom. Thankfully Oliver and I had our headphone splitter so that we could both our headphones into his tablet.
"Well, I am glad you're on board. If you get tired in the car, I brought some caffeine pills." Mom said to us and Oliver looked at me. This was definitely not a normal family.
"Again, not a normal thing a mother says to her children." Oliver said to her, I was concerned for our wellbeing at times.
"Taylor, come on!" Mom shouted as Oliver and I got into the minivan. I saw Taylor walk out into the front yard. But Oliver and I were already watching the last episode.
"How did 'Firefly' not get a second season. 'Bones' ran for 12!" Oliver said out loud and I looked at him.
"It feels like an utter crime." I said to him in return. I couldn't believe that we were nearly finished. It wasn't long until Mom was doing donuts in a car park. Oliver and I were squashed together but we kept watching our show. Before we even knew oh we were at the convention getting welcomed in by other Firefly fans. Oliver and I were talking to a few of them.
"Oliver, Y/n, go around the corner and see how long the line really is." Mom said to us and I looked at her.
"That won't happen for a while." I said to her as I went back to my conversation.
"Not now, Mom. These two posers are saying it was Shepherd who was the leaf in the wind when we all know it was Wash. You did this to us!" Oliver said to her and I looked at her.
"You've created monsters from us." I said to her before turning back to the conversation.
"Mom! It's 10:17. 10:17." I heard Taylor say. I was then fully immersed into the conversation again. It wasn't long until they were asking for favorite characters or ours.
"For me I have to go with Inara there was just something about her character that I liked but a close second is definitely Zoë." I said to them before looking over at Oliver.
"In 'Firefly,' I guess my favorite character is River, but that might just be because she looks like my girlfriend." Oliver said to one of the guys and he went into a state of shock.
"Hold up. You're a sci-fi fanatic and you have a girlfriend?" He asked Oliver and I looked at him.
"Yeah, her names Gina." Oliver said while pulling his phone out.
"And she's so lovely." I said to him and the guy looked at the picture of Oliver and Gina.
"I knew my mom was wrong. It is possible." He said before an Einstein looking guy appeared. "Show him the picture of your girlfriend." He said to Oliver and he showed the other guy.
"Great Scott!" He shouted out loud. I then walked away to a different area. Somewhere that there was some girls. No matter how nerdy they may seem. Let's just say by the end of the day, Mom had managed to privately meet Nathan Fillion. Even better the deal was made. Thankfully me and Oliver did get to meet him before heading home. Which made it better in my opinion.
