It was my favorite time of the year, Halloween. This year I was going to take part in the Zombie Run. It was 5K and there was an obstacle course as well. When I went downstairs I saw Dad and Mom talking. "Hey, Y/n do you want to be a zombie with me and Anna-Kat for the Zombie Run?" Dad asked me with a smile. I walked to the fridge.

"I would but Hattie and I are going to be running the course. But I hope you and Anna-Kat have fun." I said to him with a smile before taking my drink from the fridge.

"Maybe next year then." He said to me before I went to the staircase.

"Maybe." I said before heading upstairs to my room. But before I did I see Oliver. "I take it you're not going to do the Zombie Run." I said to him while leaning on the wall.

"Whatever gave you that impression." He said to me, I laughed.

"I don't think I even need to say." I said to him before walking into my room. I saw Taylor at my door.

"Have you heard about the whole Zombie run thing?" She asked me, I nodded.

"Yeah, Hattie and I are running it. You should as well." I said to her with a smile.

"I'm doing it with Viv. Maybe the four of us can run together." She said to me with a smile.

"That would be nice." I said to her. She nodded and then walked to her room. I texted Hattie and just like that the 4 of us would be running together. When it got to the next day, Hattie and I were meeting up.

"So we should probably practice right?" She asked me. I nodded.

"Well, we could go for a run now and later Viv invited us and Taylor to go and practice at her's." I said to her, we then did a 5K run before cooling down. Then when it got to later on we went to Viv's for our little practice.

"Thanks for inviting us Viv." Taylor said to her, Hattie and I nodded. Viv wasn't as bad as what mom pegged her out to be. She was preppy and a bit annoying but she was kinda sweet and lonely as well. I saw Mom walk over to us in Viv's tennis court, was she jogging?

"Mom, what are you doing here?" Taylor asked Mom, but she was wheezing.

"We were about to continue with practice." I said to her, while stopping my stretching routine.

"I'm gonna go, I'll see you tomorrow." Hattie said to me before hugging me.

"I'll see you then." I said to her before she started to run home.

"I...just came to get my...girls for dinner. We're carbo-loading." Mom said before eating some bread that she brought with her.

"Whoo! Let's get it! All right!" Viv shouted before she started doing her practice run.

"She's been training for the Fun Run all week." Taylor said to Mom, I wish I started my training at the beginning of the week.

"She's pretty great as well." I said while watching Viv.

"What the hell?!" Mom said as she watched Viv.

"Winners win! Drop it! I'm a ninja! Ninja! Ninja!" Viv shouted, this was just getting interesting to watch. Hattie was really missing out here.

"Holy Fudruckers!" Mom said, Viv then imitated a Tarzan yell and jumped over the tennis net.

"Whoo! Hey, Katie. Whoo!" She said before dropping to the ground and doing press ups.

"Way to go, Viv!" Taylor shouted.

"You have definitely won." I said to her with a smile.

"One, two- -" Viv said while counting.

"Isn't she amazing?" Taylor asked Mom, she really was.

"Feel it! Let's go deep!" Viv said. When it got to the Fun run. Hattie and I met up and got our belt with the tags on from sign up and put it on.

"Runners take your mark at the starting line! Zombies, stake your claim in the field." The announcer said to us, we both walked to the starting line.

"If this goes badly. Leave me, as long as you make it to the finish we'll be good." I said to Hattie, she looked at me.

"We are not leaving each other. We are a team, this isn't competition." She said to me and I nodded we both. Lilli was being a zombie today and she was faster than the two of us.

"Don't worry guys, you're my main targets." She said as she walked past us.

"Can you give us a head start by like a minute?" I asked her, she looked at Hattie and I.

"30 seconds max." She said, at least it was something.

"Thank you for the short amount of time." Hattie said to her with a smile.

"I'll give you less time if you keep going like this." She said to us, I couldn't tell if she was being serious or not.

"We'll take the 30 seconds." I said to her with a smile, she started running backwards.

"Good." She said before joining the other zombies.

"We can do this." I said to Hattie with a smile.

"We can? I mean we can!" She said. Taylor and Viv then joined us. It wasn't long until Mom joined us, I didn't even know she was running.

"You're being insane. I don't know why, but you are." Taylor said to her, she really was. Winning wasn't the main goal, it was the taking part and having fun.

"Winning isn't insane." Mom said to us.

"It's so insane. Are you dehydrated or something?" Taylor asked Mom.

"Should I start looking for some water for her?" I asked Taylor just in case.

"Katie, run with us. We're gonna take the long way to avoid the zombies. Plus, we get to do extra running. Right, Tay, Y/n/n and Hattie?" Viv said before we all gave her a high five.

"Oh, coward route? No, thank you. I'm gonna take the short course and plow right through the zombies on my way to victory." Mom said, well good luck to her.

"Well, I wish you luck Mrs. Otto." Hattie said to her with a smile.

"Thank you Hattie, and please call me Katie." She said to Hattie with a smile, Hattie nodded at her.

"I love it!" Viv said to Mom, she did her sarcastic laugh while giving Viv a weird high five.

"On your Mark...get set..." The announcer said before Viv looked at us.

"You ready?" Viv asked and we nodded.

"...run for your lives!" The announcer said before the starting gunshot went off.

"Whoo! Let's win it!" Viv shouted as we all ran off. We managed to escape the mob of zombies at the beginning and managed to keep running past them. Hattie and I got separated from Viv but we saw Oliver. Alone.

"Having fun?" I asked him as we started to lightly jog.

"I made a fool of myself of course I'm not." He said to us, I tried not to laugh.

"You always have done. We're gonna continue but have fun." I said as we started running again.

"Bye Oliver." Hattie said before we kept going. After a bit Hattie twisted her ankle and nearly fell but I got her. We were so close to the end.

"Hattie, we can do it." I said to her, I was supporting her and running with her.

"Leave me, I'm only going to hold you back." She said to me, I wasn't leaving her.

"I'm not leaving you." I said to her, she stopped.

"Let me go. This is my end." She said to me, I looked ahead 2 more things to do.

"We can do it." I said to her before we continued going. I helped her with the remaining two obstacles and then helped her along the final stretch.

"I can smell the end, we're gonna do it." She said to me, once we got close to the end, Lilli pulled off one tag from both of us but we kept going. And got 2nd and 3rd place. Viv came first. "Thank you for not leaving me." She said to me with a smile.

"I was never gonna leave you." I said to her with a smile.

"I appreciate that." She said to me with a smile. Lilli approached us.

"I really thought I had you both in the end but congratulations." She said to us both, she looked good in her zombie look.

"Thank you, someone wanted to give up but she didn't." I said to her, we spent an hour or so together before we had to head home. Mom dropped Hattie off since it would've been hard for to have walked home. But I'm glad that Mom went out of her comfort zone today. Maybe she could do something else like this in the future. But that might be a little bit of a stretch.
