24. Back To School

Summer break was officially over and now it was back to school, I didn't want to go back. "Mom!" I shouted at her, I couldn't find my book for English.

"Mom!" Taylor called out.

"Mom?" Oliver called out, who was she going to first. That was the million dollar question.

"Mom!" Anna-Kay shouted, there was the answer.

"Mom!" Taylor shouted at her.

"Mom! I need you!" I shouted at her.

"Mom! Where are you?" Oliver asked her, who knew. She was hiding.

"What do you need Y/n?" She asked me while walking into my room.

"I can't find my English book." I said to her, she opened a drawer and found it.

"It's here." She said while handing it to me.

"Oh, thank you." I said to her, she then left my room after handing it to me. I felt kind of stupid now. I did my hair and then I went downstairs.

"Greg! Can you help me find my car keys?" Mom asked Dad and came around the corner.

"How do you manage to constantly misplace- -" He started before getting a glare from Mom. "There's probably a better time for that talk. I'll help you look." Dad said before he started helping her look for it.

"Mom, I got another run in my tights. I'm in a real ballet academy now. For God's sake, buy a boy a decent pair of Danskins!" Oliver said to her, he did need some. His were awful.

"Mom...Mom, my driver's license test is in two weeks, and I need someone to take me out to practice." Taylor said to her, there was no way she'd make a good driver.

"Can't drive without car keys. Everyone fan out." Mom said to us, we all then started looking at different areas.

"Mom, I need to look professional. My plan of getting into Harvard through ballet could be lost, all for the want of a proper leotard." Oliver said to her, I was just glad my issue wasn't that big.

"Well, my plan for smoking cigarettes and eating takeout every night was ruined by you and Y/n, so we're even." Mom said, I hadn't done anything so clearly that was directed at Oliver.

"I need you to take this seriously. My teacher has already taken an instant and string dislike to me." Oliver said to him, if I was a teacher. I'd take a dislike to Oliver as well.

"What happened to my little boy with that beautiful little girl's voice? Eh." Mom said before walking away from them.

"Mom." "Mom!" Anna-Kat and Taylor said at the same time.

"What?!" Mom said to Anna-Kat.

"Look at this picture of a corgi dresses as a banana!" Anna-Kat said while showing her the picture.

"Eh." Mom said before walking away.

"Don't play me. You know it's cute." She said to Mom.

"Have you picked your after-school activity yet?" Mom asked her, she hadn't.

"I told you, I'm not doing one." Anna-Kat said to Mom.

"Greg!" Mom shouted before going upstairs. We all followed her afterwards.

"Anna-Kat, it's fun to be involved. Now that school's started, I can't wait to be part of the recycling committee again and hang with my crew." Dad said to us, that was sadder than this house.

"You mean the janitors?" Mom said to him, definitely sad.

"And Bill Doty." Dad said to us, I honestly keep thinking that he's not real.

"You guys, worst fan-out of all time. Look for my keys in a place that I'm not already looking." Mom said before we all spilt up, I went to my room and I couldn't find anything. "Greg!" I heard Mom yell. I then saw Dad get pushed down the hall. I exited my room and went downstairs. I looked around the kitchen space but nothing again.

"I found your keys!" Anna-Kat shouted from around the corner.

"Where were they?" Mom asked her, of course the most obvious space.

"Right there." Anna-Kat said while pointing at the key hooks.

"Who hung my keys on the hook? How am I supposed to find anything around this house if people put things back where they belong?" Mom asked before taking the keys. We all then began walking to the car. "Anna-Kat, I need you to pick a club from this list. It's important to be involved in school." Mom said to her, she was one to talk.

"If it's so important how come you're not involved?" Anna-Kat said to her.

"Good one Anna-Kat." I said to her.

"She makes an interesting point." Dad said while looking at Mom, I got in the car.

"Is this payback for overruling you?" Mom asked him.

"Yes." Dad said to her.

"Okay. Tell you what, I'll get involved if you do." Mom said to her, that wasn't going to last long.

"Really? You're gonna volunteer at school like 'all those no-life, busy-body, idiot moms'?" Anna-Kat asked her, I didn't realize how strongly Mom thought of these other Moms.

"Yep. Right after I start watching how I speak in front of you." Mom said to her making me smile. She wasn't doing that. When we got to school I immediately saw my friends.

"My Mom's on something." I said to them all.

"What's happening?" Javi asked me.

"She's volunteering." I said to them, I saw jaws drops.

"She's sick isn't she." Hattie said to me, I looked at her.

"How long as she got left?" Khad's asked me. I shrugged.

"Not long, I don't think." Lilli said making me laugh.

"Let's just go to class." I said to them with a laugh.

"We should, we're already late." Jas said to us. We did get told off but it didn't bother us. When we got home I was getting ready for work. It has a horrible shift but I made do with it. When it got to our next school day, it was hell. I was just looking forward to going to dance later and when I could finally get my confidence fix for the day. When I got home I went straight to my room. I didn't need conversations with Mom or Dad and even Doris. Even the next day I went to go and practice at Hattie's in house dance space.

"I still can't believe that you're parents funded this." I said to her, we had to go to dance practice after but it would be fine.

"Trust me, I didn't even know they were doing this for me." She said to me, we then made our way to our dance class. Before I of course had to wait for Mom to pickup me and after she did we went to go and pick Oliver up. We watched his class through the window.

"Beautiful work, everyone. Nice form." His teacher said to the class. "Oliver, round out your arms. Lift your chest. Oh, forget it. You look like a lollipop having a seizure." She said to Oliver making me laugh a little bit. I could see it. "Okay, class. Pliés. Nicely done, everyone, except Oliver. Okay, that's it for today." She said to whole class, I kinda felt for Oliver in a way. Mom entered the class to talk with Oliver and Anna-Kat and I followed behind.

"Oliver, Honey, you really have been working your butt off." Mom said to him, he was good but he could always be better.

"I told you. What do you think I'm doing in my room every night with the door closed?" Oliver asked her, there's a list full of things that teenage boys do with the door closed. "Mom!" Oliver shouted at her.

"You're 13. I don't know." Mom said to him.

"I'm practicing. First, I was just doing it to get into Harvard, but now...I kinda love it." Oliver said to her, I knew he would eventually.

"You're like a 'Bachelor' contestant who goes on the show for fame, but by the end...is in it for the right reasons." Mom said to Oliver before looking at the teacher. "She's really hard on you, huh?" Mom asked him.

"I've been telling you. She has it in for me." Oliver said to her, I knew that feeling.

"I'm sorry. I feel bad for not believing you." Mom said to him, it was the same when I was complaining about my teacher.

"It's okay, Mom." Oliver said to him, it definitely wasn't.

"No, it's not. I'm gonna go talk to her." Mom said to him, I wonder how that was going to go.

"Watch out. She's horrible." Oliver said to her.

"No ones more horrible than your mother!" Mom said before walking over to her.

"We should go outside and watch this." I said to them getting a nod.

"What did you do when your teacher was horrible to you?" Oliver asked me, I looked at him.

"I impressed her, after that she was scared of me." I said to him, after a while we watched them fight.

"I think we should go to the car and get someone to pick us up." Oliver said to as we started going outside. Dad then came to our rescue. But we had to wait for Mom. I was just looking forwards to telling everyone what happened.

"Y/n's trying not to laugh, what happened?" Jas asked as I got to school yesterday.

"Basically last night Mom had a full on fight with Oliver's ballet teacher." I said to them while laughing.

"Was it physically or..." Lilli started but looking at my reaction she knew what I meant. When I got home I was practicing.

"Y/n, have you made sure you know where everything is?" Mom asked me while walking into my room.

"Yes, and I even packed my bag for tomorrow." I said to her with a smile.

"Looks like someone's organized." Dad said to me with a smile. I had to be, they both left my room and I continued practicing. This week couldn't have been funnier.
