It was Valentine's Day, Cooper and I weren't official yet. I got him a card but I forgot to get a gift. I was just hoping he wouldn't mind too much. When I got downstairs I saw Anna-Kat making cards. The radio was playing love songs. "Here's another Valentine's Day favorite." The radio presenter said to us. Before playing another love song. Mom thankfully turned it off.
"Everything okay?" Mom asked him. It had to do with Alice, that was obvious.
"Never better." Oliver said before sighing.
"I know you're lying." I said while sitting beside him.
"Hey, Mom." Taylor said to her before Mom tipped her Orange juice over.
"Ohh! Just great! And Y/n, I can see you're overthinking everything, so stop it." Mom said before walking away.
"I cannot wait for today to be over with." I said before eating something. Valentine's Day was my least favorite day of the year.
"Anna-Kat, you don't need to spend 10 minutes on each Valentine card." Mom said while walking over to Anna-Kat.
"But I want them to be nice for kids in my class. Daddy said I should take pride in my work." Anna-Kat said to her, but that wasn't for Valentine's Day.
"But that's not for stupid stuff, like made-up holidays." Mom said to us, I never understood the point of Valentine's Day. You don't have to have a set day to show how much you love someone.
"Happy Valentine's Day." Dad said to Mom, we all knew he was planning something like usual.
"Oh. To you, too, baby." Mom said before kissing Dad.
"So, Taylor tells me- -" Dad started before Taylor cut him off quite abruptly.
"We've got to go, or I'll be late for volleyball! I'm team captain! Team captain can't be late!" Taylor shouted, that seemed a bit exaggerated.
"Geez, Taylor. Let's save that level of panic for the first time you miss your period. Come on, let's move it, people." Mom said before we started getting ready to leave I picked up my bag and headed to the door.
"...so don't feel like you need to do anything big for me this year." Mom said to him, we all knew about his surprises that he pulled.
'Big! What ever do you mean?" Dad asked her as I walked out the door. We've all heard the complaints about what he's done. Once Mom got on the car we started on our way to school.
"So, tonight, there's a Valentine's party at Casey Otis' house." Taylor said to Mom.
"Will her parents be there?" Mom asked her, of course they wouldn't.
"Yes, both her moms and her stepmom." Taylor said to her, I could tell she wasn't telling the truth.
"Lot of math on that." Mom said to her, it really was. I was surprised even Taylor could do it.
"Can I go?" Taylor asked her.
"Before I say yes, I need to call and confirm that somebody will be there." Mom said to her, I knew Taylor know a plan to make sure Mom wouldn't call someone.
"Dad said the exact same thing, and he already called them and talked to them." Taylor said to her, that was why she rushed us out this morning.
"Well, if Dad cleared it, then it's okay with me." Mom said to her with a smile, looks like Taylor lied her way to a party.
"Thank you, Mom! You're the best! Can I borrow your high heels?" Taylor asked her, now that wasn't going to happening.
"No." Mom said to her, knew it.
"You never let me do anything!" Taylor said to her, well that was a lie because she was going to the party.
"What's in that box?" Anna-Kat asked Oliver, I looked over and saw a gift in his hand.
"Nothing." Oliver said before groaning. "Valentine's Day." Oliver said to us.
"I get what you mean." I said before throwing my head back.
"Spill it. You know what? Never mind. You don't really need this." Mom said before taking the present from his hand. "Got it!" She said while taking it from him. "Open this." Mom said while handing it to Taylor.
"Pretty!" Anna-Kat said while looking at it.
"You did good Oliver because at least you could actually think of something to buy you're Valentine." I said to him, it's hard to buy for someone who has everything they've ever wanted.
"What does the 'A' stand for?" Taylor asked before gasping. She then looked back at Oliver. "Did you buy this for Alice?" Taylor asked while looking back, how could she not have known.
"O-li-Ver!" Mom said with a huge smile.
"Yeah, but I'm having second thoughts about giving it to her. I mean, we haven't talked about boyfriend/girlfriend or anything." Oliver said to us.
"Same with Cooper and I. We haven't really talked about it." I said to Oliver, I never thought to talk about it.
"What's the worst that could happen?" Mom asked us.
"He'll reject me and I will never leave home again." I said to her, it was true but what if he didn't.
"She'll think it's stupid and tell her friends, and everyone will mock me behind my back." Oliver said, that could also happen in my situation as well.
"Yeah, that could totally happen. Why don't you both hold on to it, feel out the situation, and then decide what to do when you see them?" Mom asked us, now that wasn't a bad idea at all.
"That's a good idea." Oliver said to her with a smile.
"Not a bad idea Mom." I said to her with a smile and a nod.
"They said I had a good idea! Mark the date and the time! Ring the bells!" Mom said making Taylor chuckle. The moment was ruined.
"I'm not prepared for the level of stress that comes with this holiday." Oliver said to us, I nodded. He could say that again.
"Yeah." Mom said to us, when we got to school I luckily found Khad's. The others were elsewhere.
"So, have you decided what you're going to do when you see Cooper?" She asked me as we went to my locker. I shook my head.
"Not at all. Like we haven't spoken about boyfriend/girlfriend stuff and it's not like I can get him anything because 1, I can't afford a lot. And 2, what do you get for someone who has everything they want." I said to her. She laughed. When it got to the end of the day I saw Cooper with his friends.
"Are you okay, Y/n?" Jas asked me, I looked at her.
"No, how do you breathe again. And do I look okay?" I asked them all while turning to face them.
"You look fine and I'm going to need you to try and breathe. In through nose and out from your mouth." Hattie said while holding my shoulders I listened to her and started breathing normally again.
"He's coming over, Y/n, I love you but we're gonna go." Lilli said to me before they all hugged me and walked away. I hated this. I turned around and saw Cooper I was not doing ok.
"Hey, Cooper." I said while forcing a smile on my face.
"Happy Valentine's Day." He said to me with a smile.
"Yeah, happy Valentine's Day." I said to him with a smile, we then started walking down the hallway. I saw Oliver waiting for Alice. "I got you a card, I was going to get you a present but I didn't know what to get." I said while reaching in my bag to get him his card.
"Well, I got you a present. I didn't know what you would want so I asked your friends, if it's wrong blame them." He said to making me laugh. We exchanged things, I gave him my card and he gave me my present. I opened it and saw a necklace that I wanted I smiled.
"Thank you, it's beautiful." I said to him with a smile, I saw a look of relief on his face.
"I'm glad you like you it." He said to me with a smile, I saw him open his card and he liked it which was a relief. We then walked down the hallway hand in hand.
"So, I know we haven't discussed it but I was thinking about, what if we made us official as in boyfriend/girlfriend?" I asked him as we came to a stop. He looked at me and smiled.
"I think we should, I wanted to talk to you about it all day." He said to me with a smile, I saw Mom waiting outside. I was the only one left to leave.
"I need to get going before Mom walks in here but I'll talk to later." I said to him with a smile, I kissed his cheek before going to the car. When we got home Oliver and I were doing homework at the table when Anna-Kat threw all of her cards out.
"Why are you throwing all the Valentines you got from your class?" Mom asked her, there was only one that mattered from me. Once we got home I put the necklace on and I haven't taken it off.
"They're just cruddy drugstore cards their parents signed for them. I'm a little down on love." Anna-Kat said to Mom, I felt a little bit sad for her.
"Join the club." Oliver said to her.
"I could never be in that club." I said with a smile.
"The hell with Alice. I think it's sweet that you have a romantic side. You have a little bit of your dad in you." Mom said to him with a smile. "And Y/n, I'm so happy that you're happy. I always knew it would work out." She said to me with a smile.
"By the way, why hasn't he done anything for you this year? Where's the skywriting, the marching bands? You guys having problems?" Oliver asked her.
"I mean, I didn't want to ask but since he wasn't done anything it's seemed suspicious." I said to Mom, the two of us looked at her.
"What?! No! We're not having problems." Mom said while sitting beside me.
"Good, because if you two ever went your separate ways- -" Oliver started before Mom cut him off.
"Oh, sweetie." Mom said to him.
"I can't even imagine living in something smaller than this." Oliver said to Mom.
"Don't worry, I'll be living with Hattie." I said to Mom with a nod. As if I'd live somewhere smaller.
"Katie, can you come here for a sec?" Dad asked her from his office. She then walked over to go and see him. Hattie texted me so I went upstairs to go and talk with her. We then called.
"So, tell me everything." She said to me, I smiled at her.
"So, he brought me that necklace that I wanted and- -" I started her, I saw her smiling at me. She looked like she was going to explode.
"There's an and! I'm going to need you to tell me now!" She shouted with happiness. I looked at her.
"Why don't you come over and we can talk about this." I said to her with a smile, I saw her run out of her room.
"I'll be there in 5, I'll bring something for Oliver. I saw how sad he was earlier." She said while leaving her house I smiled at her.
"I'll see you then." She said to me, and like she said she was here in 5 minutes. I heard the front door open followed by footsteps running upstairs and into my room.
"What was this...and?" She asked me, she was out of breath.
"We're now boyfriend/girlfriend." I said to her with a big smile, she then hugged me.
"I'm so happy for you both." She said to me. We then started talking about various things.
"Give it back now! You're not supposed to lock doors! Mom!" Oliver shouted, I looked at my door and saw him in front of Anna-Kat's door, Hattie then joined me.
"What is going on? We are trying to celebrate Valentine's Day over here!" Mom shouted while walking down hall.
"Anna-Kat stole my present for Alice." Oliver said to Mom and Dad, that didn't seem like a big deal.
"Anna-Kat, open this door!" Dad shouted while knocking on her door.
"Right now!" Mom shouted at her.
"This is getting good." I said to Hattie with a smile. We heard the door open and they went in.
"After this is over, I am going to try and make Oliver's day. Well try to." Hattie said as we went back into my room to talk about the rest of our day. When Mom and Dad had go out Angela came over. We saw Oliver walk past my room.
"I'm sorry today didn't work out." I said to him, he entered my room.
"I'm glad it worked out for you." He said to me with a smile.
"I know I'm not Alice but I got something for you." Hattie said to him whilst getting something from out of her pockets. She then handed it to him.
"Thank you Hattie." He said to her with a smile. Was this the start of something new.
"You're welcome." She said to him with a smile, he then left to go and talk to Anna-Kat and I was trying to piece Hattie back together again. Maybe they could become a thing as well. Now that would be a nice thing for us all. Especially if Alice would be out of his life.
