Chapter Four

Alex:

I was crying. I didn't know why but I was crying. All the tears and baggage that I had balled up inside of me over the last 22 years I let out.

I couldn't believe I was crying in my office at work. If Daltin saw me like this I was surely fired.

My phone rang. I wiped up my tears and took a deep breath. "Hello?" I said.

"Come to my office now." Daltin said.

"Yes, sir." I answered and hung up. I walked into his office.

"Sir, you wanted me." I said. He looked up at me and I could tell he knew I had just been crying.

"Alexis, have you been crying?" He asked.

"Um yes, sir, but It's no trouble. I'm fine." I assured him.

"Alex whatever is troubling you, you can tell me you know? Has someone been messing with you while you've been here?" He asked.

"Oh, no sir, nothing like that." I said to him shaking my head.

"How many times must I tell you in my office you call me Daltin, not sir." He replied.

"Sorry, si.. Daltin." I answered.

"That's better and no need to apologize." He stated. "Could you please bring me the plans for the Anderson project and then you can have the rest of the day off."

"Um of course Daltin and it's really not neccesary I can still work." I said.

"Alexis do as you're told and plus I have a meeting at the golf club this afternoon anyways so you're free to go." He responded.

"Yes, I will go get the Anderson file now." I answered leaving his office.

I fetched the file for him and gathered my things in my office and headed home. What was i supposed to do the rest of the day? I thought to myself.

I decided to that once I was home I would cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie. After selecting The DUFF I sat down and soon fell asleep.

I was probably asleep for three hour when I heard a knock at the door that awoke me.

I went to answer it to find the one and only Daltin Sloane at my door.

"Mr. Sloane what are you doing here?" I asked.

"That's Daltin to you sweetheart, and I brought some takeout because I doubt you've eaten anything since you've been home." He answered. I mean he wasn't wrong I hadn't eaten anything since he's been home and I just realized I was starving.

"There was no need for you to bring dinner but thank you." I replied.

"Anytime Alex, plus I just happened to be in the neighborhood anyways and thought I'd stop and see how you were since today wasn't exactly your happiest day." He said.

"Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to break down at work." I apologized.

"Stop apologizing Alex, it happens to the best of us, plus you've been through so much its good for you to let it out instead of keeping it all balled up inside." He said gently putting his arm around my back patting it to comfort me.

That's when I realize Daltin wasn't like most billionaire's he was gentle, not cruel, not cocky, not arrogant or rude either, deep down Daltin Sloane was a kind man. Though he failed to show it sometimes he definitly is. The business world is tough so I understand why he has thick skin in those times.

I just smiled to him in response worrying that he would say to stop thanking him if I thanked him.

He pulled me into a hug and we hugged for like five minutes. I pulled away when I realized I shouldn't be hugging my boss. That's too far even though he was almost a like a friend to me now.

"We should eat before it gets cold." I suggested keeping the situation from getting anymore awkward than it already was.

We sat down and ate and I appreciated that Daltin Sloane was a complete a$$hole.
