Chapter 5
We finished eating without speaking a word.
I still couldn't believe he hugged me. I shouldn't have let it happen. What is he developed feelings, he was a pain in the butt to deal with, heck I'm not gonna lie, I don't think anyone would date that goon.
I hurried to work remembering not to apologize for every little thing I did.
I went to my small cubicle as soon as I got there and got his meetings and appointments in order.
A short while later the phone rang which I answered.
"Mr. Sloane's office, this is Alex. How can I help you?" I said into the phone.
"My office now." It was Daltin.
"Yes, sir," I said hanging up the phone. Could that man be any more rude and arrogant?
I took a deep break before coming into his office.
"Alex, tell my pilot we'll take a flight tomorrow morning to Paris, I have business to attend to. Which means you'll need to come, so pack a week's worth of clothes tonight and be ready at 6 am." He said without looking up from his work on his desk.
"Yes, sir," I said instantly regretting those words.
"Alex, what did we talk about? Daltin, dammit, it's Daltin. I hate formalities." He almost yelled, and I nodded in confirmation.
With that, I left as he waved a hand dismissing me.
I called his Pilot, Julian Welch, and made sure he'd be ready for the early morning flight.
I had a lot to pack for a week's trip. Would we be dining out? Would I have time to relax at all? I needed to plan accordingly and I didn't know the slightest thing about business trips.
I finished up my day's work not having to speak to the big boss man again. I only sent in his appointment attendees and did paperwork.
After I had finished everything, I returned to Rachel's apartment so she could help me prepare for the business trip. Luckily she was home.
I told her about the trip I'd be going on tomorrow.
"Girl, here lemme lend you some clothes, shoes and evening wear. You never know where you'll end up with a handsome billionaire," She smirked and I rolled my eyes.
"You know if you actually met that man you'd change your whole opinion of him. He's rude, arrogant, sadistic, and pretty much an a$$hole." I stated blandly.
"Highly unlikely, I'm a sucker for hot, rich, sadistic guys," She sighed.
"You do you girl, but leave me out of his when his not-so-charming smile haunts you when he screws you over." I laughed.
"Whatever, anyways, you want this blue or red one?" She asked referring to the evening dress I may need if we go out at nice with clients.
"Put both in, who knows how many nights I may be out," I answered gesturing toward my suitcase, another thing she let me borrow.
I was nervous about this trip because if I screwed anything up, I would and could be fired instantly and may be stranded in a foreign country knowing my horrid boss, Mr. Daltin Sloane.
"Ok, do you get weekends off?" She asked.
"I'm not sure, but both casual and business, because that man seems to never take a day off," I answered.
"Why do you hate him so much?" Rachel asked.
"Because he drives me nuts, and thinks he can boss me around at every aspect of my life."
"Well, he can technically." She responded with a shrug.
"NO, he can NOT, not outside of work he can't. I can do whatever I please, whenever I please if I'm not on the clock. Just like any other job." I snarled kinda laughing.
"True, I guess. But, I mean if he was paying me as much as he's paying you, I'd do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted."
"Rachel, you're def a sucker for those rich guys. They need to learn they can't control everything." I said laughing and she laughed with me.
"That is one thing I wish I could change about myself," Rachel said smiling at me.
We both knew there was no changing going to happen to her.
After I was packed, I went to sleep as I had an early flight and I didn't want to upset the Devil before we had even gotten on the plane.
Morning came wayyyy sooner than I wanted and I was sluggish for the first 20 minutes I was awake. I'd gotten dressed, ate a little breakfast, then did my hair and makeup. I looked down at my phone and I was already 5 minutes behind schedule and I had a message from Daltin saying "don't be late."
"Shoot I gotta go," I said to myself cause Rachel wasn't awake yet. Luckily my Uber was awaiting me outside. I hoped in it and headed for the airport. Thank goodness my Uber said he could get there 5 minutes faster than the initial time since it was before rush hour.
I arrived with 2 minutes to spare and rushed to the plane. Daltin was already in his seat, he looked up when he saw me panting as I'd felt I'd run a mile to board the plane.
"Look at you 2 minutes early," He chuckled, I wondered why, and then I noticed my hair was a wind-blown mess.
"Yep, I made it, hallelujah," I said, and he gestured toward a seat next to him.
"Have you ever been on a plane before?" He asked as the plane was getting ready for takeoff. I was getting nervous, and my breathing pattern increased.
"Um no," I said nervously.
"Well, Miss Bentley, enjoy the ride," He said with a dirty smirk, chuckling.
