Story Intro
Quiet sniffles filled the inside of a slide tube as the young six year old girl sitting inside tried to stop her crying. She hadn't had a good day at all. At school, she had to come up with a believable story to explain away the bruises she had on her eye, arms, and legs.
Her father had come home last night in a drunk rage. She had come home from school to find her father just standing there in the living room without a shirt, a bottle in hand, and his pupils blown as wide as they could possibly be. She had tried to be quiet as she came down the stairs from putting her stuff away in her room, but she forgot to avoid the last step that always creaked when weight was put on it.
That made him look at her, and he automatically started yelling. He began to walk towards her, still yelling, but somehow managed to trip over hos shirt, which had been carelessly tossed onto the floor. The guy hit the ground, and in a sudden burst of panic, the little girl ran as fast as she could out of the house.
Eventually, she came to a little park area. Nobody was there, but she still sought refuge in the tube slide and burst into tears. Which led to where she was now, hiccuping and sniffling slightly from trying to stop her crying.
Even though she was trying to stay quiet, the large tube seemed to make things louder, and soon enough, someone heard her.
"Are you okay?"
The young girl hugged her knees even tighter as her head snapped up. Looking up at the top of the slide, she spotted two boys that appeared to be around her age. One had ruby red eyes and spiky blonde hair. The other, who seemed to be hiding behind him, had messy green colored hair and a pair of the brightest emerald green eyes she had ever seen
"Um, hi" he said, waving a bit from where he was crouching.
He had a bit of a higher pitched voice that his friend.
The young female felt like she had seen the two before, but she couldn't pinpoint where.
"That's Deku. He won't hurt ya. I'm Katsuki Bakugou. Who are you?" the one with the ruby red eyes stated.
"My name is actually Izuku. Izuku Midoriya. But you can call me deku. I don't mind. He's Kacchan" the green eyed boy stated.
The young girl stared at the two before she wiped away the rest of her tears, doing her best to get her emotions under control.
"Um, its, nice to meet you two, I think. Um, I'm Hikari. Hikari Honata. And, to answer your question from before," she said, looking at Katsuki.
"I'm alright. Well, I will be here in a bit" she said.
"Hikari. That's a pretty name" Izuku told her.
Hikari blanched a bit.
"I, uh, thank you?" she said.
She was taken by surprise when Katsuki launched himself into the slide and slammed into her side.
"So, what are you in here crying for?" he asked in a casual manner like he hadn't just done what he did.
Izuku closed his eyes and smacked his hand against his face. Hikari flicked her eyes between the two boys, trying to decide if they were safe or not. She decided that they seemed to be alright.
"Well, I, haven't had the best of days today. Or yesterday" she said, subconsciously rubbing her hand over one of the bruises on her arm.
The action didn't go unnoticed by the two young boys, who shared a look with each other.
"Did someone... do that to you?" Izuku asked.
"I mean, I did kinda deserve it. I couldn't keep a hold on the plates I was supposed to put up. I, um, ended up dropping them" Hikari admitted, looking down a bit and hugging herself a little tighter.
"That's stupid. Nobody deserves that over a couple of broken plates" Katsuki scoffed.
"Yeah, well, my old man isn't exactly the nicest guy on Earth" Hikari stated before slapping her hands over her mouth.
'Oh no, I'm not supposed to say things like that' she thought as she started to panic.
"Wait, your dad did this to you?" Katsuki asked as he placed a surprisingly gentle hand on one of the bruises.
Hikari, purely out of reflex, violently flinched away from him, and he pulled his hand away after processing her reaction for a few seconds. After sitting in tense silence for a couple of seconds, she turned and began to move towards the exit of the slide.
"Sorry, um, I should probably go" she said as she moved.
Neither of the boys made a move to stop her, but they did share a look of concern.
The next day at school, Hikari sat in her corner during recess, carefully and quietly watching things as they came and went while picking at her bandages. The teachers had given up on trying to get her to socialize with the other kids, since every time they tried she always turned right around and went back to her spot. The teachers now left her alone in her little corner.
Her usual routine here was go straight to her corner, and stay there until it was time to go back inside. No one ever bothered her, except the teachers when they tried to get her to socialize. That's how it was for a while.
But since when had anything ever stayed the same?
"Hikari?"
Green haired boy from the park was back. Now Hikari remembered where she had seen him and his friend before. She often spotted the two playing around with the other kids.
"Hello. Uhm, Izuku, was it?" Hikari said.
Izuku suddenly gave a wide smile.
"You remembered!" he cried out in a happy tone as he sat down beside the girl.
"Where's your friend? I usually see you and him together around here" Hikari told him.
"Oh, Kacchan hasn't gotten here yet. But he will be soon" Izuku told her.
Hikari stayed silent for a bit.
"So, about, yesterday. I'm sorry if we hurt you" Izuku said.
Hikari recalled when she flinched away from Katsuki's touch. In a rather violent way too.
"You guys didn't hurt me. I just, I don't..." Hikari paused as she tried to find her words.
Izuku was patient, and waited with that innocent gaze of his.
"I don't really have a good experience when it comes to touch" she finally said.
Izuku hummed a bit, and stayed quiet. Then, he held out his hand. Hikari glanced at it, then gave him a confused look.
"If you have bad experiences with touch, then maybe I can help with giving you good experiences" he explained.
Hikari had seen enough movies to know where these types of things usually led.
"You don't want me as a friend. I wouldn't make a good friend" she said, hugging her knees to her chest.
"You might be surprised" the green haired boy stated with a light shrug, and for some reason, Hikari couldn't help but smile a bit.
"He ain't gonna stop until you do" a new voice joined the mix.
Hikari and Izuku looked up to see Katsuki, if she was remembering it right.
"Deku has a hard time knowing when to give up. So, you might as well go along with whatever it is that he has planned" the blonde stated as he plopped himself down in front of the two.
"Why are you two wasting your time on me? You barely know me, I barely know you. So why even bother?" Hikari asked them.
"Because, heroes help people when they need it, and well, you look like you need help" Izuku told her, running a hand through his messy curls.
That seemed to really shut Hikari up, and she looked down at the ground.
"Though I highly doubt Shitty Deku will become a hero. Especially since he doesn't have a quirk" Katsuki stated.
"You don't have a quirk?" Hikari asked, her gaze snapping up to the boy's face. Izuku shook his head.
"I'm quirkless" he said.
Hikari looked back at the ground before looking back up again.
"Why should having a quirk change anything?" she asked.
Both boys suddenly looked surprised.
"What do you mean?" Izuku asked.
"Sure, having a quirk is flashy and all..." Hikari stated, lifting up a hand and activating her quirk.
Blue colored electricity flashed around her hand and arm before she stopped it to put her hand back down.
"But, whether or not you have a quirk, it shouldn't define anything about someone's capabilities. Plenty of people can do things without quirks. At least that's what I like to think" she said.
Izuku clapped his hands together and then pointed at her.
"Finally! I'm not alone! I've been telling Kacchan that for I don't know how long now!" he cried.
Katsuki rolled his eyes and muttered a quiet, "Whatever".
At that moment, one of the teachers called out, "Lunch time!".
Everyone started scrambling to get in line at the door. Katsuki and Izuku both got up and started to follow, but then, Izuku paused and turned back around, holding out both of his hands this time.
"Come on, you can join me and Kacchan!" he said.
Kastuki had also paused and turned around with his hands shoved in the pockets of his shorts.
"Like I said, he's not going to give up until you do" he stated.
Hikari looked between the two as a debate took place in her head. She still wasn't fully sure if she could trust them, but she would never find out unless she took a leap of faith. So, what the hell?
"Alright then" she said in a quiet voice.
Then, she reached up, and gently grabbed Izuku's hands...
