Hikari's Quirk Analysis

Here's a better breakdown of each of Hikari's quirks, quirk abilities, how they work, and all of the drawbacks of each of them

(P.S. You can bet that Izuku has a whole chapter's worth of pages in one of his notebooks that he's dedicated to Hikari and her quirks. And you can bet that all of this ends up on those pages at some point)

(But you never heard any of that from me)

(Electricity : Initial Breakdown)

One of the things about Hikari's electricity is that it gives her a tingly feeling every time she activates it. However, that tingle can and will turn into a burning sensation that gets worse the longer Hikari uses her electricity. How fast this happens usually depends on how much electricity Hikari is putting out. If it's a low output, it might take a couple hours before her mind registers the burning sensation on her skin. But the more electricity is produced, the faster the process.

And Hikari has lost count of how many times she's burned herself with her electricity because she used her quirk for too long.

Another thing, Hikari's electrical quirk is actually a bit more different from Denki Kaminari's than you might think, and it's not just the color that sets them apart. (Hikari's electricity is a blue color while his is more of a yellow) While Denki's quirk affects his mental state when he overuses it, Hikari's affects her physical state. Denki's body is constantly producing electricity hanks to his quirk, so if he doesn't overuse it, he has a constant supply at his fingertips. The best way to give an example of this is a phone that always stays at 100 % no matter what, even when he's fried his own brain.

Hikari, on the other hand, is basically expelling electricity from her body every time she uses it. This essentially puts her on a time limit every single time she fights. She's a literal living and breathing battery. And what do batteries need once they're out of power? Time to recharge. And it doesn't help that some of Hikari's more powerful fighting moves drain away her energy along with her electricity.

Electric Whips :

Basic Concept -

Hikari can manipulate her quirk to form long whips made of electricity. She can use this however she'd like, whether it be for restraint, electrocution, or travel

How it works -

By channeling the electricity into her wrists and hands, Hikari can produce either multiple strips or a single strip of electricity. A single strand of electricity would appear as a solid single blue rope that gets thinner as it goes. It can and sometimes will spark as well as occasionally spit with electricity when Hikari's focus wavers. The electrical rope is also wrapped around Hikari's wrist. This strip of electricty can reach a distance of about fifteen feet max.

For multiple strands, each strand would be smaller, and thinner, in comparison to the single electrical strand, but other than that, it would still look the same. Each of the smaller strands come from the tips of Hikari's fingers, and can extend to about four feet in length. While the large single strip of electricity can be used for attack based purposes, these smaller ones can be used to 'link' Hikari into a system, so to speak. And through those smaller strands, Hikari can either draw on, or add to the electricity that's already flowing through a system. She can effectively shut down, or overload a system by doing this.

Drawbacks -

Producing just one strand of electricity and maintaining it is already enough to stress out the joints and occasionally the nerves in Hikari's hands and wrists. Creating multiple strands and maintaining them only multiplies the amount of damage that's inflicted. Hikari usually uses this ability for travel, where she can turn it off and on in rapid succession, but for times where she's keeping up the strands for long periods of time, her hands and wrists are usually on the sore side afterwards

Shockwave :

Basic Concept -

By slamming a fist into the ground, this zappy girl will release a wave of electricity that she can direct depending on the angle of which her fist hit the ground

How it works -

Hikari collects electricity in her fist, and once she feels there's enough power coursing through her hand, she will ball up her hand into a fist, and slam it as hard as she can into the ground while simultaneously releasing the electricity that she's collected in her hand. The wave of electricity that's released upon impact can affect anything that's up to three meters, or about ten feet away at maximum. How far the wave travels usually depends on how hard she's hitting the ground. And the angle of which the wave travels depends on what angle Hikari's fist makes contact with the ground. If she hits straight down, then the wave travels directly up into the air. The more she angles her fist, the more tilted the wave will be.

Any living thing the wave makes contact with will be electrocuted, but the severity of the electrocution will depend on where the person is. The electrical wave weakens in power and charge as it spreads out further, so the farther away you are, the less of an electrical shock you'll get. But you'll still be getting shocked if that wave touches you

Drawbacks -

Now, I think you guys can already figure out a drawback here. For Hikari to get the most use out of this ability, she needs to hit the ground, and she needs to hit the ground hard. In order for her to not really break skin, she needs to be wearing specially designed gloves, and even then, it still feels like hitting a punching bag as hard as you can with a bare hand. Her knuckles are absolutely going to be bruised, sore, and bloody if she wasn't wearing gloves. And sometimes, if she isn't careful and calculated, Hikari can actually fracture, or even break her metacarpals (the bones in your hands that are between your fingers and wrist bones)

At least she has a high pain tolerance, and probably won't even notice that she's injured her hand until the battle is over and the adrenaline dies down.

Megawave :

Basic Concept -

Same concept as 'Shockwave', except Hikari hits the ground with both fists and releases a much more powerful wave of electricity

How it works -

Instead of just collecting electricity in one hand, Hikari collects electricity in both hands, amps up the voltage, and waits for the perfect moment to unleash it. Instead of the electricity resembling a wave crashing against rocks, it actually takes on a dome shape that can extend up to five meters, or sixteen feet, in any direction. And like 'Shockwave', this dome of electricity loses its bite the further it travels, but it can still pack a pretty good punch if you're hit by it.

Drawbacks -

Hikari absolutely needs to wear special gloves if she's to perform this move. She's hitting the ground with much more force than she would use for her 'Shockwave', and even if she's wearing gloves, the force of the impact would still be enough to break skin. Her knuckles will absolutely be covered in unnatural splashes of blacks, blues, and purples. And if she wasn't wearing gloves for whatever reason, make sure she gets some x-rays done. There's a very high chance that something's either fractured or broken

Overload :

Basic Concept -

Releases all the pent up energy in a large scale attack that, at max, can affect anything within a 30 yard radius

How it works -

Every time Hikari uses her electrical quirk, her body actually stores away small amounts of electricity for her to tap into at a later time. As time goes on, this electricity continues to collect together, increasing in both amount and power. Now, Hikari can either slowly draw on this access power to keep herself going in a drawn out fight, or she can release all the pent up power in one go. If it's in a safe area, then more often than not, Hikari will go for the second option. By gathering all of the electricity into her hands and quickly releasing it, Hikari will unleash a devastating circling wave of electricity that can expand to thirty yards in any direction and will destroy and kill anything and anyone in its path. Hikari can sometimes decide where the wave travels by angling her hands.

Drawbacks -

Not only is it extremely painful, but having that much electrical power flowing through and out of the body is more than enough to leave behind physical marks. And these marks usually appear in the form of lichtenberg scars. Each lichtenberg scar that Hikari has on her body was from a time she overloaded after losing control of her powers. Now, this ability is not only the most lethal, its also the most energy draining one Hikari has in her arsenal. It takes a good amount of energy for her to perform this move, and if its a last ditch effort thing and she's at the end of a battle, then its going to be a fact that she loses consciousness

Electrowave :

Basic Concept -

Hikari can collect the electricity in her hands or feet, and release it when she swings the limb around

How it works -

Basically how its described

Drawbacks -

Four words for you. Joint and nerve damage. That's it

Electrical Manipulation :

Basic Concept -

Hikari can manipulate the electricity flowing through any system or device

How it works -

Hikari's  Electrical whips to play a part here. By placing her hands on the surface of whatever object has electricity flowing through it and linking herself to it through small strands of electricity, she can reverse the electricity's flow, change its charge from positive to negative and vise versa, and either draw on the electricity in the object, or add more to it

Drawbacks -

The only drawback here is that this ability puts strain on her hands

Electrosight :

Basic concept -

Hikari can actually see the electrical pulses that things carrying electricity produce

How it works -

This ability is more of an added benefit or advantage than it is an actual ability. This is something that Hikari's also had any time she was using her electrical quirk. Now, as you know, Hikari's eyes glow whenever she uses her Hyperspeed or Electricity. But its actually for different reasons. With Hyperspeed, the eye glow is just something that happens, a tell-tale sigh that a quirk is being used.

But with electricity, its a different thing. As Hikari uses her electricity, small amounts of power break away and travel up to her eyes, thus causing them to glow. However, its these small amounts of electricity that generate this very ability. With the help of the electricity in her eyes, Hikari is able to actually see the electrical pulses everything with electricity gives off. To give you a view of how she see things when using this ability, try to imagine a fully black landscape.

In every direction you look, its just black. Now, try to picture the entire human nervous system. (If you can't, then look up a picture)That's what Hikari sees when this ability is activated and she's looking at a human. A full, 3-D nervous system that fades in and out of view with each and every heartbeat of the person she's looking at.

This ability is also used with machinery. She can see all of the paths in the circuitry that every ounce of electricity takes. This ability is able to bypass almost anything that you put in front of Hikari's eyes, however, she can see things beyond walls. She may be able to see the circuitry in the walls, but she can't see beyond them.

Drawbacks -

While the electrosight is a great benefit, it also poses a disadvantage. Prolonged use hurts her eyes. Bad. Hikari actually has a pain medicine prescription for her quirks kickbacks, and its this ability that makes use it the most. Not only that, but some of her more recent doctor's appointments discovered that she is slowly damaging her eyes with this ability.

It was recommended that she get glasses since her vision will be pretty blurry after long fights. And unfortunately, Hikari can't shut the electrovision off when she's using her electrical quirk, and sometimes that makes a fight itself a bit more difficult since she isn't perceiving things like her classmates are. Literally. Anytime she uses her electricity, all she sees is a black canvas with moving electrical pulses for living things and electrical systems. Hikari can see where everyone is, but that's it.

She's blind when it comes to any physical objects. That's actually what the mask she wears with her hero costume helps out with. The lenses for the mask's eyes have built-in infrared and night vision technology. Those allow her to see on different vision planes when her usual sight is compromised.

(Hyperspeed)

Basic Concept -

Adds a speed boost to Hikari's actions, or can be used for a quick getaway.

How it works -

Hikari can reach a comfortable top speed of about 365 mph and she can comfortably manage about 5 G's in acceleration. She needs to be sprinting at least 20 mph or faster for her to be able to activate her Hyperspeed quirk

Drawbacks/Limitations -

Any amount of prolonged use of her hyperspeed usually results in a major headache, a migraine, dizziness, nausea, and even the occasional body ache if she overuses the quirk for a long amount of time. The longer the overuse, the more painful and more extensive the aches are. Hikari's baseline limit is 365 mph with 5 G's in acceleration. If she really pushes herself she can handle, at her absolute maximum, 9 G's of acceleration, with a top speed of 648 mph.

However, like any quirk, Hyperspeed has its downsides.

First of all, if she hits her absolute max, you can usually find her on the ground, blacked out afterwards. She needs to already be running at certain speeds in order to activate her quirk. She can't go any slower than 20 mph, or her quirk will not activate. Anytime she uses Hyperspeed, Hikari's entire body after she stops will feel like it's vibrating, and the feeling increases the longer she uses her quirk, or goes over her limit.

This can cause her to be rather unsteady on her feet, and if she's already dizzy or has a major headache going, then there had better be someone there to keep her up and stop her from stumbling to the ground.
