The next day, you woke up earlier for an unknown reason and couldn't go back to sleep. After having breakfast, you prepared yourself just like the previous days for the trainings that were to come. The coaches informed you that today, the teams won't be doing simple practice sets against each other, but full matches.

There will be only one match at a time, so the two teams that weren't playing could either rest before their match or warm up. The first match will be opposing Shiratorizawa and Aoba Johsai.

Brings back memories...

The players from both teams were finishing their warm up before setting up on the court. Oikawa looked serious, glaring at Ushiwaka.

Is it the reason why he was watching one of his matches yesterday ?

When the referee whistled, all the players started moving on the court, tossing the ball and attacking. The two other teams : Nekoma and Inarizaki were standing behind the coaches' bench, watching the match too. You were right in between them, with the managers.

Soon after, you felt someone approaching you, and saw Kuroo coming toward you, with his usual smirk. He stopped next to you, and watched the match without a word.

After a moment though, he spoke up. "Y/n... Can I call you by your first name by the way ?"

You chuckled. "Yeah everyone calls me by my first name. I don't have a common last name so that's a bit weird when people call me L/n."

"Okay I see. I wanted to ask you, why did you become Shiratorizawa's manager ? It doesn't look easy with such a strong team."

"Oh it's fine honestly. And I've always liked volleyball even tho I refused to play."

You continued talking till the end of the match. He was pretty curious and asked a lot of questions, but he was nice. You wondered once more why Yumi didn't like him, and reminded yourself to ask her later.

While you were talking to him, you were less focused on the match that was happening. You were still following the attacks and all, but when you looked up at Oikawa, you found him savagely glaring at Kuroo.

You frowned. "What's up with him..." you whispered.

"Did you say something ?" asked Kuroo.

"Oh no no it's fine."

When the match had ended, the players left the court. Shiratorizawa won. 'Damn they really have a national level.' you thought.

As you were about to go get the water bottles for your teammates (can we call them our teammates ? Cause like... we're not playing with them🤔), someone caught your attention. Oikawa was walking toward you, still breathless from his match.

"What-" He arrived next to you and firmly placed his arm around your waist, pulling you closer to him. He leaned down and murmured in your ear "What do you think you're doing ?" He sounded mad.

All of this happened really fast and some people were looking at you two. Of course they were, it looked wrong, you were way too close to each other.

"I should return the question !" you shouted whispered and got away from his embrace. Your heart was racing. You turned around and left. "Plus you're sweating. Don't touch me before you take a shower."

On your way to give their water bottles to your team, you received multiple confused glances from people, who saw what just happened.

As they should... why would Shiratorizawa's manager be that close to one of Seijoh's players ?

Once you were done and returned to the girls, Mina caught your arm and dragged you away with the other managers.

"Y/n ! You gotta explain yourself ! We all saw what happened, you can't deny it anymore."

You looked down. "I know but I swear it's not what it looked like and-"

Hana interrupted you and crossed her arms. "Hush ! We said you couldn't deny it anymore, it was exactly what it looked like, the guy likes you."

You bit your lip. "You think so ?"

They all nodded so you added "But how can you be so sure ? Maybe he's just being flirty again..."

"He's jealous." said Hana.

"And protective." added Yumi.

"And he only acts like this with you." completed Mina. "That's true, he never acted like that towards me before !" she pretended to cry.

You nervously chuckled. "But what do I do now ?"

They stared at you, disappointed. "You show him that you're interested in him." said Mina.

You blushed. "What ?! I'm not making the first move !"

"You're expecting him to play guessing games with you ?!" shouted Hana. "I wonder how he managed to be so patient with you... you must be really special to him." she winked.

You rolled your eyes. "Stop it. I don't know how to take care of this alone... help me please !!" you pleaded them.

After the last match of the day, the teams went back to their rooms to shower before dinner, as usual, and you left the gym to head back to your room too. Everyone was already gone, so it surprised you when you overheard a discussion on your way to the dorm.

You stopped behind a corner and started listening. 'Wait... I recognise these voices !' They were Oikawa's and Ushijima's voices. It sounded like they were arguing about something.

"You know you made the wrong choice. You could have done way better if you came to Shiratorizawa." sais Ushiwaka with his usual automaton voice.

"God dammit how many times do I have to tell you that I don't give a f*ck about Shiratorizawa ! You only care about your selfish self and how people can exploit your abilities to bring you higher and you perfectly know I can't stand it." You could hear the annoyance in Oikawa's voice.

That's why Oikawa hates him so much...

"You know your team will never reach our level." Ushijima added.

Oikawa scoffed. "That's optimistic." He sighed "I don't see the point in continuing this conversation." He sounded like he was done.

You started hearing footsteps coming your way, and panicked. You bit your lower lip, knowing you wouldn't have the time to leave before he arrived, and prayed for something to happen so he would change his mind and turn around.

...

But nothing like that happened. As you were biting your lip harder from stress, you saw him arrive and stop right in front of you, surprised. But he didn't say anything contrary to what you were thinking. He resumed his path and while he was passing in front of you, he suddenly grabbed your arm and dragged you away with him, without a look.

You didn't say anything either, lest Ushijima hear you, and followed him, confused. He stopped once you were outside the building, a few steps from the entrance. There was a silence before he spoke.

"Did you hear everything ?"

You looked down. "I arrived in the middle of the conversation, but I heard everything from the moment he told you you should've come to Shiratorizawa." There was another silence. "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have listened. It was none of my busin-"

"It's okay, you would have learned it sooner or later anyway and it's not a big deal honestly. I'm just... tired of all of this." You lifted your head to look at him. He had a sad smile on his face, which made you feel bad.

Then he sighed and leaned down, his face passing close to yours. His head rested on your shoulder. His left hand reached out to lightly hold on yours while his other hand rested loosely around your waist. It surprised you at first, but you tried to comfort him, and started gently stroking his hair. His face moved closer and brushed against the crook of your neck. You shivered.

"Let me remind you that you haven't taken a shower yet..." you whispered.

He slightly chuckled. "I must be special then, to receive preferential treatment..."

You softly smiled and closed your eyes... But they instantly widened when, before straightening up, he gently kissed you on the neck. You felt your face heat up and your heart racing. He avoided your gaze, a light blush covering his cheeks.

"Let's get back inside, it's getting chilly..." he muttered.

"Su-sure..." you stuttered, still in shock.
