Chapter 6

I was grateful that he allowed me to sit next to him, but we didn't engage in a conversation. It was quite disappointing but it was fine since Mrs Kooper maintained a discussion across the class.

Every school should have that one teacher who share all their stories with the school.

Eventually, the lesson ended and it was break.
I packed my bag and left the art class after taking down the last of the notes.

" I guess I'll see you around," I said to Trent. I felt ignorant for saying that because it was obvious that we were going to see each other often. We were in the same visual arts class for heaven's sake.

As I walked out the door I realized that I had no idea where the cafeteria was so I ask the first kid who walked by.

"Straight down this hall and to the right," she said.

I then thanked her and follow her directions. The cafeteria was cute; like a mini-café. It may have not been a private school but the school really did put its money to good use. Every room I had been to looked smart, and for me, the cafe' themed cafeteria was the cherry on top.

'I can tell that I am going to enjoy every break during the school year.'
Was what I thought. And I really did think that for those few minutes.

I grabbed a tray and waited in the queue to be served. The cafeteria at my old school was small and we didn't have the option of sitting outside. The lunch ladies at Bellevue were very friendly too. One came over to serve me with a warm smile.

"I haven't seen you here before, are you new?" She asked while serving me mac and cheese. I noticed that she had a bit of a New Yorker's accent.

"Yes I am", I nervously answered.

"I hope you enjoy it here doll, would you like a can of soda?"

"No thank you, just bottled water please," I said with a smile.

I paid her, and just as I turned around, the pretty girls from homeroom approached me.
"Hey! Kourtney right?" The girl with the chestnut hair asked.

All of my alarms should have went off then and there. "Yes," I answered.
"Oh my gosh she's so cute!" Squealed a girl with pitch black hair.

' Cute?'
I hated being short and a comment like; 'cute' is and insult in it's finest form.

"I'm Kristine," said the girl with the long chestnut hair. " She's Natalie, this is Trina and that's Shannon." She introduced each group member to me. Their beauty was intimidating.
" Kourtney? Like a Kardashian!" Asked Shannon.

They may have been pretty but most of the time I was like talking to trees. Their ignorance made me feel sorry for them from time to time.

"Uhh, it's spelt the same," I said trying to make her seem a little smarter.

"Are you related to her?" She gasped.
I couldn't cover up for that question.
"Ignore her," Kristine said. " Do you want to sit with us?"

" Uh, sure."
They sat at a table next to a window where they had a nice view of the football field. Trina was friends with them but didn't sit with them so it was just the four of us. Trina spent every break with her 'friend'. At first I thought that they were more than friends because the constant snogging made it appear that why. His name was Brady.

" I love your outfit," Kristine said. "Thank you," I answered.
"I was browsing through my grandparent's album the other day and saw that she had a skirt and top just like yours," she added.

And that's why we don't sit with the pretty faces.

I brushed of her comment and started eating. I noticed that they didn't have lunch. "Don't you want to get something to eat?" I asked sincerely.

The three of them took out their cellphones and started texting away. " We don't have lunch. We're trying to maintain our figures," Natalie explained.

'And I thought I was bad.'

Keeping my thoughts to myself, I ate the rest of my lunch while they took selfies and texted.

"Hey, I'm going to steal her from you guys, I want to introduce to my friends," said a familiar voice from behind me.

And boy was I glad to hear that voice.

"Sure. Kourtney you are always welcome to sit with us," Kristine smiled.

It was fake.

I picked up my tray and followed Jessica outside.
"Thank you soo much!" I whispered hoping that the pretty faces couldn't hear me.

"You looked like you needed saving," she giggled.

We approached a table just outside the cafeteria.
"Guys this is Kourtney, she's new to Bellevue," she said. I scanned all the faces that were new to me. All new faces except for two.

I kept my head down. Yes, I was timid but I didn't want to make eye contact either. It was a dumb thing to do because I was going to have to introduce myself and sit with for the rest of the break.

"Hey you're the bad ass that told Mr Benson off," said a boy with short hair.

"That's Chad," Jessica said. "But you can call me Cheese and Chadder " he adds. Chad was the group's jester. Whenever we wanted entertainment we relied on him.

"I'm Brady and this is my girlfriend Trina."
Brady was friendly and had the kindest smile. He was always so nice to me, like an older brother.

But looks can be deceitful.
Trina on the other hand showed me her true colours from the start. She was full of herself and it was evident that she did not like me.

"We already know each other," she said bitterly.

"Did I mention that I was single?"asked Chad.

"Okay Chad, well I'm sure she's not, so don't try your luck," said Jessica.

I merely bit my bottom lip in an attempt to escape the stage fright. My eyes met the boy with short curly brown hair, which left me with a blank expression. Around must have been everywhere in this school because I kept seeing the same face.

In just one day.

"This is the longest that Trent has been quiet for," Chad comments.

"We already met," I said without thinking. ' Embarrassed for the hundredth time.'

I started to think that Trent's grin was permanent and I guess one could say that the more I saw it the more I got used to it. A moment of silence passed us.

"Please sit Kourtney," said Brady, pointing at an empty. Fortunately, everyone at that table ate food during lunch so I didn't feel alone.

"So how did you meet this dweeb," Chad asked me, making reference to Trent. I watched Trent take a sip of his Cola. He smirked and waited for me tell the tale.

' I don't want to get into all the details.
It's a long complicated story...'

"It's not his business," Trent said as he puts his can down.

"Damn. Trent, why so uptight?" Trina chuckled while the others laughed and tease Chad over his misfortune.

"Anyways, Kourtney, are you new in town, because I haven't seen you around," asked Brady.

"Yes, I moved her just a few weeks ago," I answered before taking fork full of macaroni and cheese.

"We are definitely going to give you a tour. What are you doing this Saturday?"asked Brady.

"Uh- ,"I began.

"Hey! We should take her to that party tonight!" Jessica exclaimed with excitement.

' A party on a school night?'

Then again, it's not like I was allowed to go anywhere on the weekend.
"Yeah she can come as my date, what do you say?" Chad, raised his eyebrows waiting for my answer.

"Uh-" I tried again but this time, I was little more anxious.

"Oh shut up you don't even have a car to pick her up!" Jessica hissed. Her and Chad started to bicker like little children.

"Guys!" I yelled to break up the argument and get everyone's attention.
"I can't come," I said disappointed as ever.

"What do you mean you ' can't come'? Everyone's going be there," Jessica said, sounding puzzled.

"I'm not allowed t-"

Here was where I asked myself ' who let the bitch out?'
"Oh don't tell me your strict parents?" She asked with a thrill in her voice.

I remained quiet hoping that my silence was a good enough answer.

"Priceless," the red devil laughed.
And I mean red because her eye matched the colour of the cherry red soda that Jessica was sipping.
Trina's mockery made me miserable and it wasn't the only time she's made me feel that way.

" Who says we can't bust you out of prison?" Trent said calm as usual.

' Really? Me break out? Why didn't I think of something like that? I'm sure that my nosy parents will never notice that their only child is missing.'

I kept those thoughts to myself since I had already been humiliated enough for one day .
I continued eating my lunch with a loss of interest for the conversation.

"That would never work," I said purely unmotivated.

"Are you sure? You haven't even tried. Can't you get them out of the house for the night?"

It was almost as if Trent wouldn't take 'no' for an answer.

"Just leave her. She's too scared to do it."

The snide comment came from the most bitter one in the group. I don't think Trina and I will be getting along.

I don't like to make 'fake nice'.'

"Oh Trina. Let's not choose evil today," Jessica remarked sarcastically.

"I think its the perfect day to choose evil?"

The vile grin across her perfect face annoyed me more than Trent's mischievous smirk.
Before I could respond or think of a good clap back, the bell rang indicating the end of lunch.

Saved by the bell?

We all emptied our trays into the nearest bin then staked the trays on a table just outside the cafeteria.

"I was looking forward to taking you as my date," said Chad whom was walking slowly beside."It was nice meeting you. See you tomorrow."

"Yeah," I said trying to fake a smile.

I noticed a pair of dimples on either side of his broad smile. I watched him walk off to his next class.
I couldn't get over how humiliated Trina made me feel.
'How is it possible for someone to be so mean yet have such a pretty face? '

I have never been able to make sense of that. The mean girl is always the prettiest. Is it fair?

I asked someone to give me directions to the math class and I managed to follow their directions with ease.

"Can I sit next to you?" A familiar voice asked.
' Do I want you to sit next to me,' I asked myself once I had identified the recognisable face.
