Chapter 32

The game ended with the score being home; 32 points and away; 15 points. I didn't really know what was happening for most of the match or who was responsible for what. I just went to support and watch the quarter back really. And of course, our school team.

More than anything, I was thrilled to finally be outside.

After the match, everyone left the stands and our group dispersed into the crowd. Jesscia followed me down the stands and onto the field to meet Trent. " Good game bro!" she yelled as he approached us. He grinned and said nothing. His eyes were just drawn to mine. He kissed me and thanked me for coming. I was excited to see what was going to happen next until...

"So, what are we doing now?" Jessica asked. Trent and I did not expect to have company after the match, but we didn't know how to tell Jessica that. We just looked at each other until our silence said it all.

"Oh! Did you guys already have plans?" She asked.

We both felt bad to tell her that our plans didn't include her, but she understood without hearing any explanation. "Say no more. I'll just crash the next one," she teased.

We waited outside the noisy locker-room while Trent changed out of his uniform.
It took some time before he returned, and I assumed it was because the team was celebrating their victory.

We were so close to getting some time alone until Trina and Shannon popped out of nowhere. "Well-done Trent!" Trina exclaimed. I couldn't believe it, but Shannon was snacking on something else, and it was quite distracting. "Shannon suggested that we all go out to celebrate," Trina added. I didn't like what was happening and even though I saw it coming I still let it happen. I always felt like I walked on eggshells whenever Trina and Shannon were around. For some reason I felt as if I owed them something. I noticed that Trent started to get uncomfortable again.  " Maybe we can go somewhere with the guys. Let's leave them alone," Jessica said. Trina shot Jessica a look that told her to piss off.

They both ignored her and didn't move until they got the answer that they were looking for. It created an uncomfortable shift in the atmosphere. Trent looked at me and I immediately read his mind. I give him a slight nod and of consent.

"Fine, where do you guys want to go?" He asked.

"We were thinking Pink Cadillac. We could meet you there" Trina answered. She smiled. She tried to be flirtatious with Trent and I wasn't surprised.  She was proud of herself and days later, I was to.

Trina and Shannon ran off to Brady and Chad to tell them about their little arrangements, while Trent and I waited for Jessica to hand in her overdue assignment. Just when I thought she had already broken the record of last-minute homework. It was due on Thursday, but she begged Mr Terry to let her hand in after the match.

We waited for her in the school's parking lot. We stood outside the car. I was kind of shy for some reason. I couldn't tell if I was just anxious for nothing or of it was because I could sense that he was not happy. I could tell because he was quiet and seemed serious.

Until I had let out a sneeze.

"You better not be getting sick," he grinned.

I was still shy and didn't know how to respond. He came closer to me to both arms around me. Being a little shorter than him was a privilege at times. He rested his chin on my head. I couldn't think of much except for; 'I'm so glad that I washed my hair yesterday,' and also; 'Wow he smells really good.'

"I'm sorry about today. Things didn't go as planned."

I wasn't really upset about our change of plans, but I had a feeling that my silence made him think otherwise. I looked up into his hazel eyes.  "It's okay," I smiled. Maintaining eye contact was my way of expressing sincerity. Although, it was also my way of getting what I wanted.

He kissed my forehead then smiled as sign of relief. He held my hand then started fidgeting with the ring around my index finger. That was a ring that never I used to go without.  Ruby; my birthstone. I had got that ring for myself on my 16th birthday. "Maybe we can do something afterwards, if we have time."

I didn't respond because we were shortly interrupted by stomping on the ground.
"Sorry I took so long. I was lectured for a late submission," Jessica huffed. I knew that Trent was a kind of mad about a lot that happened that day, but I could never be angry at Jessica. There were times when she did cross the line, but she would always do something cute or funny that would easily make me forget all about it.

"Your third wheel is here now so we can go." she opened the door for herself and got into the backseat seeming quite pleased with herself. She was more hyped up than the both of us.

I was excited at the time but after everything that happened after that lunch with our 'friends', I realised that I was so foolish to allow myself to get so excited over a set up.
