Confrontation

Entitys POV

I returned back to the window in time to see (f/n) carrying Mark out. I gritted my teeth and snarled, my hands balling into fists. My anger only continued to build as they left, feeling something else build within it. I clenched my eyes close and punched against the door, not expecting the dull pain to start resonating, nor the forward fall that came soon after.

Hearing something clatter to the floor, I caught myself and slowly opened my eyes, seeing I was outside of my containment. The doctors eyes were still on the computer, frozen but unfazed; his helper was frozen as well, but wore a shocked expression.

I looked down at my hand, still throbbing but generally fine. I grinned as I clenched it, looking back to the doctor.

"Why, hello, doctor," I hissed.

He heaved a sigh and took off his glasses, turning to Daniel, "Go get (f/n)."

Daniel turned slightly, but was still frozen in shock.

"Now!"

As Daniel left, the doctor began walking to the door, still carrying a nonchalant attitude about him. My snarl returned as I followed him, feeling as if he didn't see me as a threat. The door beeped, the panel turning red, as he turned to me, fiddling with something in his coat pocket. I slowed my pace a bit, but continued toward him, my thoughts becoming consumed with things I wanted to do to him.

I reached out my hand and grabbed hold of his shoulder, his expression still not faltering. With a quick jerk of my hand, I threw him a few feet to the side, his glasses clattered to the floor as he landed, but soon stood as I approached him once more.

"Mara, I have a proposition for you."

I slow my stride, considering if I wanted to hear what he had to say.

"Go on..." I said, eventually stopping, a smile spreading across my lips.

He plucked his glasses from the floor and placed them back on his face.

"Free to do anything under my supervision, request for anything..."

I raised my eyebrow to this, wondering what he was trying to get at.

"But," he continued, "anyone with connection to, including (f/n) herself, must not be brought into it in anyway. You will leave (f/n) alone for your right to live freely."

I scoffed at him, "I think you're underestimating me," my grin growing wider, "I would much rather destroy everything she knows and loves."

I pause for a moment, searching his still blank face. I approach him, catching him by the neck and raising him off the ground.

"And that includes you, doctor," I began digging my nails into his throat, "but you're going to help me first."

The blood trickling down his neck slowly begin to turn from crimson red to black. I laughed as I dropped him, feeling myself take over his body and mind

"Now, I think an announcement is called for, doctor."

Your POV

You started to stumble as you ran out of breath, Daniel continuing to pull you along. You wheeze for air as you rested, Daniel cursing at the elevator that wouldn't work.

"Even in evacs,  this is supposed to open for staff!"

He fiddled with the console bit more before realizing what had happened, taking your hand once more moving on.

"D-daniel what's happening?"

"It wasn't an evac code, it was an entire facility lockdown."

As soon as words left his mouth, the main lights shut off, leaving only the flashing red. He continued to drag you around, your legs and chest burning. A few more steps and you drop to your knees

"I... I can't keep going."

Daniel knelt down next to you, but quickly pick you back up.

"We have to, (f/n)!"

"I can't!" You yelled.

He stopped once more and you could feel his head whip around, then pull you into another direction. You hung your head down trying to recuperate, hearing the beep of oneof the doors. Daniel pulled you in and set you down behind a table, crouching down and gripping your hand.

"I'm going to see if I can get system back online, so... just sit tight, okay? Don't leave this room."

You look up with worry in your eyes, but nodded, too exasperated to verbally reply. Leaning back against the wall as he left and shoved the door closed, you hoped that everything would be okay, that Mark was still safe.

You sat there for what seemed like forever. Your mind began to wonder if Daniel was never coming back, that you and Mark would never make it out of here. You choked back some tears, feeling the dread starting to overwhelm you. You barely noticed the searing in your bottom lip.

You froze as you heard the door screech open and a few steps follow. You leaned forward a bit, peeking out from behind the table. Just as you did, a figure of a man stepped in front of you and gripped your arm, pulling you out from your hiding place.

"Ah, there you are."

Marks POV

I quickly sat up as the room went dark, the doors sliding open. I held my head as it pulsed with the still ever present pain. I picked up my glasses, placed them back on my face and stared out into the flashing red corridor. Sliding out of the bed, I made my way out and looked around, seeing if anyone was still around.

I moved out and chose a direction to take, hoping I wouldn't find (f/n), that she had made it out safely. And if I did find her, that she was unharmed.

I paused and gritted my teeth as I heard a male voice scream out in pain. I wondered how many people hadn't made it out, that wouldn't make it out, but I pushed that thought aside as I continued on. I had to fix this, or find someone who could.

I heard the screeching of a metal door being dragged against the tile flooring, and slowly made my way towards it. I listened for anything else as I cautiously continued on, hugging the walls for extra security.

I crouched down as I heard the ear-shattering voice I hated most, and at the words, the one I feared most.

"...KILL YOU!"

I quickly got up and ran towards where it came from, becoming even more uneasy as I heard the sounds of glass breaking and clattering. I turned the corner to see (f/n)'s father standing outside of a lab door, glass littering the floor just beside him. I rushed over, but was greeted by him holding me back and covering my mouth. He adverted his eyes towards the room then shook his head. I muffled through his hand as I felt tears start to burn my eyes.

Entitys POV

"Ah, there you are," I said as I pulled her roughly from behind the table.

"Let go of me," she yelled, pulling herself back.

I released my grip, causing her to stumble back a few feet.

"How long did you think you could outrun me?" I hissed, coyly.

I slowly made my way around the room, taking inventory of my surroundings. I heard her take a few steps towards the door and I turned to her.

"The doors are locked, I made sure of that," I smiled, waving her father over so he was visible, then waving him off again, "you would think with such a fragile body, I wouldn't be able to do much."

I slid my fingers into a few glass tubes, turned and lazily tossed them towards her direction, each missing by a few centimeters.

"But I can do so much more now. You see," I turned back to the table, "humanity comes in a package deal, a body, yes, but also with emotion. And your petty emotions make me thrive."

I fingered at a beaker, freshly plucked from the table, my grin still ever-present. She stiffly adjusted herself to dodge it, but I could still see her visibly shaking. Tossing it up once, I grabbed it and chucked it towards her, the aim towards the ground, catching her ankle that didn't quite make it out of my shot. She stumbled, catching herself on some shelving. Her breath came out shakily as she shot me a cold-glare.

"Why are you doing this?! Why... why are you playing around?!" She shouts as she regains her footing, placing her weight on the uninjured ankle.

"Tsk, tsk. Where would be fun in that?" I reply.

She grabbed at a petri dish and hurled it towards me. I raised an eyebrow as it shattered against my shoulder, but ultimately leaving me untouched.

I brushed off the little bits of glass off me, " It's useless, you may as well just give up and-"

"And what? Join you? Render my life forfeit? You would never understand!" Her words came out heated and harsh as she continued on, "I will NEVER give up, or give in. You must be crazy if you would ever think, for a second, I would ever give you what you wanted!"

I felt the anger build up inside of me as I repeated her words over and over in my head. I struggled as I shook, taking a step towards her.

"You just don't get it do you?! Everything. EVERYTHING. I'll DESTROY it, I will make everything a living hell, and you can just refuse me?!"

She nodded, standing her ground, "I... I would rather be dead than to submit."

"I......I...." I stammered.

I dug my nails into my palms as I watched her just stand there with a wide-eyed expression on her face. I waited for her to say something, anything, but she didn't, and that pissed me off even more.

"I... will... KILL YOU!" I howled in an unearthly voice.

Your POV

You flinched at his words as they became more and more volatile. You could feel a thick uneasiness in the air, making it hard for you to breath.

"I... will... KILL YOU!"

As the words left his mouth, the air went still, time seemed to slow down. You could heard a crackling noise, glass grinding and shrieking under pressure. You couldn't move to save yourself, even when you saw the glass plates on the desks shatter, the cabinet panes burst outwards. Even when the large glass window broke and sent a large slab stabbing towards you. Your breath came out slow, but shaking, as you closed your eyes and tried to crouch to avoid it, but still braced for the fatal impact.

Then

Time wasn't slow anymore, your breath coming out hitched and ragged. You jumped as you heard a sickening crunch and thump. You slowly opened your eyes, wondering if the impact was so quick that you didn't feel anything. The first thing you saw was the floor, then as you lifted you head, the ruin of a science room. Then you saw him.

You stay crouching a few feet from Mara as he struggled to pull the large slab of glass from his side.

"Guh!" He coughs out, blood beginning pool around him.

He takes a few ragged breaths and looks over to you, slowly sliding his hand out to you. You shake as you cautiously inch towards him, keeping your distance as you sit, just out of his reach.

"I have to leave this physical form before it's too late and I'm left as a normal soul... I would much rather return to collecting them myself."

His words come out so lightly you find yourself leaning in just to make out his words. He reaches up and places his finger on your lip, soon pinching and pulling it down to reveal the mark. He releases your lip and weakly smiles as you pull back.

"Honestly..." he begins, looking away and covering his eyes with his hand, "What's wrong with me? I could've led you into darkness, ruined your body and taken your soul with me... I could've... but couldn't."

You hesitate, reaching your hand out to his, lightly grazing his cold skin with your fingers before he yanks his hand away.

"Don't touch me," he growls, "stop feeling sorry for me..."

The puddle surrounding him grows larger as he coughs up blood, causing it to spray both from his mouth and wound. As the blood trailed down his cheek, he smiled once more.

"My offer still stands, you know," he uncovers his eyes, soaked with tears, "follow me into the abyss...?"

He reaches out his hand to you, but quickly pulls it back, laughing. You couldn't help but feel tears well up in your eyes. Even though he had tried to ruin everything in your life, he was with you your entire life. A lot of his words were sarcasm, but he did help you through some rougher times, and whether it was for you or for him didn't matter to you right now, because above all else, he had saved you in his final moments.

"I lo..." he shakes his head, "you know...it doesn't need saying."

Starting from his feet, he began to deteriorate to a muddy like substance. He turned his face towards you, lifting his hand up to catch the tears that started to fall. You gripped his hand as the deterioration continued.

"Don't... I'll still be around," he said lightly, his chest disappearing into the muck.

He could no longer talk, only smile as the last of him was engulfed, your hand filled with the same material. You raised your head as the door was once more shoved open, seeing Mark and your father standing there. Mark breathed a shaky sigh of relief as he rushed in and hugged you, tears streaming down his face. He quickly whipped his head around.

"Where... where is he?"

You bit your lip as you opened your palm, letting the mud slip out of your hands. You swallowed and let a breath out.

"He's gone..." you said, looking up to Mark, "it's over, it's finally over."

Your father came over and wrapped an emergency blanket around you then went off to find Daniel, leaving you to rest.

The lights came back on and the facility returned to as normal as it could be. You and Mark made your way out of the front doors, seeing Daniel being lifted into the ambulance. He had just barely made it by wrapping a tourniquet around his broken leg. You returned to your parents house to recuperate in the last days you had to visit, telling your mom and Elena all about what had happened there. The news never said anything about the incident, but it seemed right for them not to. Your father reluctantly handed you the plane ticket, making you promise you would keep in touch more often, and visit every once in a while.

You hugged everyone before you both made your way towards your flight back home.

Your father took a hold of Marks hand and shook it firmly, "I would tell you to take care of her, but it seems she does quite alright," he said, winking at Mark.

You rolled your eyes as you pulled Mark along, your hands intertwining as you boarded the tram.
