(small) V2 Ch7: Pre-Party

(Ok, this chapter as well as the next one will be much shorter than normal. This is because I will be on my little trip back home and my writing time will be limited. It actually works out because there isnt a huge amount to cover right here. But we are almost through volume 2 now. Mega hyped for volume 3.)

3rd Person Pov

Beacon Courtyard

Ruby: "Wait, you already got her to wanna go?"

Y/n and Ruby were currently lounging casually on a bench in Beacons massive courtyard, regularly chatting seeing as they had nothing particular to do.

Y/n: "Well more than just me. Yang showed up after I walked off and I assume they had a good chat. Good enough that they dont want us in the ballroom."

That was actually true. After whatever else happened the night prior, Yang had recruited Blake in helping to put together preparations for the dance. It was fairly easy to assume they had something special in mind, seeing as they were going to extreme lengths to make sure nobody went in during setup.

Ruby: "Yeah I guess. Not gonna lie I'm kinda scared of whatever they have in mind. You?"

Y/n: "Terrified. I cant even imagine all the crap those three could pull if they put their minds to it."

???: "If that's truly the case, then I can only imagine what apocalypse may come around if the five of you were to do exactly that "

The attention of both students was stolen by none other than Beacons' resident headmaster, and overall bundle of philosophy, with mug of coffee in hand, Professor Ozpin himself. His reception was pretty predictable.

Ruby: "Hi Professor!"

Y/n: "Sup Oz."

Amused slightly by the difference in energies, Ozpin chuckled to himself before speaking.

Ozpin: "Good afternoon you two. I suppose I can assume our resident 'mystery students' are enjoying the day?"

The duo met eyes, before shrugging at the same time and responding.

Ruby: "Yeah. I guess."

Y/n: "What about you? You seem pretty chipper today yourself. Oh, here have a seat."

In a mess of shadows another bench appeared in front of the one they were lounging on, allowing Ozpin to have a seat while they talked.

Ozpin: "Thank you Y/n. And yes I suppose I'm in brighter spirits today. It's hard not to be on one beautiful as this. Tell me, are you two excited for the dance?"

Ruby groaned a bit in slight annoyance.

Ruby: "Yeah...just not looking forward to walking around in those stupid heels..."

Y/n snickered at Ruby, ruffling her hair. Why did he ruffle her hair? Cause he felt like it.

Y/n: "Oh relax Rosebud. If it gets bad I can always just make you some shoes to switch into. It ain't hard."

Ruby: "You arent the one who has to walk around in them! Dont make me stuff you into a tuxedo!"

Immediately his entertainment left, instead replaced by legitimate dread at the concept.

Y/n: "Ok let's not get crazy!"

The duo were reminded of the headmaster's presence by a short few laughs at their antics. And you cant really fault him. It's certainly funny to watch the way that the two interact at times. Finishing his round of laughter, the headmaster spoke up, fishing around in his coat pocket for something.

Ozpin: "Well, I wont hold you for too long. I merely wished to pass something on to Y/n here."

Having captured their attention, Ozpin produced a Scroll from his pocket, holding the collapsed holographic device towards Y/n with a small smile.

"While not entirely necessary, I felt as though you would appreciate having one."

Before Y/n could even respond, the scroll in Ozpins hand buzzed slightly.

"And would you look at that, you already have a message."

Slightly perplexed, Y/n took the scroll and opened the device, seeing a message from Jaune.

Jaune: [Hey Y/n! I have no idea when you got a scroll or how its number ended up in all of ours, but you and Ruby should know that we are having a little party at our dorm tonight! Feel free to drop by at 8!]

Y/n let out a surprised 'huh' at the timing and convenience of the message, allowing Ruby to read what he had just received. He looked up to thank Ozpin, but the headmaster was already gone. Seemingly having disapeared.

Y/n: "Sneaky little wizard...anyways... what now? We've got like...4 hours."

Timeskip 5 hours

Team JNPR Dorm

The "party" at team JNPRs' dorm wasnt anything particularly exciting it must be said. After all, it's not like they're a bunch of crazy frat kids. In all honesty, it was more of just a hang out. Weiss surprised everybody by even showing up, and Sun managed to surprise the most people when he showed up with two extras, quickly introducing them as the remaining two members of his team, team SSSN (Sun).

There was Scarlet, who was a rather pale guy wearing eye shadow. Mostly white clothing, with a red Cape/coat hanging off his shadow. His hair was a, you guessed it, scarlet red and cane down in one large bang. He certainly carried himself in a way that in his eyes must be elegant.

Sage was a dark skinned dude, in a long white duster coat that featured a dark green accent. Much like sun, he wore no undershirt and was also noticeably tattooed. He had short spiky and dark green hair. He was obviously more rough of a character than Scarlet, his entire presence oozed a feeling that said "pick a fight, I dare you."

They hit off with the others pretty well, the three teams mingling casually for most of the night. Normal banter. All in all a rather pleasant time. Of course though things always tend to escalate, don't they?

Nora: "Oh please! As if you could out arm wrestle me."

Nora confidentially taunted Y/n from her position seated on her bed, very easily capturing the shadows' attention as he lounged in a chair he summoned up for himself in the corner.

Y/n: "Your mighty confident for someone who got tossed across the cafeteria like a ragdoll arent you?"

Nora scoffed.

Nora: "Oh shut it! You were on the run the entire time!"

Now with their conversation having gripped everybody in the room, Sage, who had been very quiet so far, surprisingly spoke up. Easily dragging one of the small desks towards the center of the room.

Sage: "Why dont you two find out who's really got it in them?"

Without hesitating in the slightest, Nora was instantly off her bed and at the desk, all set up for a test of strength. With a shrug, Y/n sat himself opposite of her, locking hands with the energetic menace of team JNPR.

Ruby stood to the side of the desk, a hand raised into the air, ready to signal the battle.

Ruby: "Ready...?"

...

"Set...?"

...

"Wrestle!!!"

Instantly the test of strength began, both sides clearly putting large amounts of effort into the clash of grips. It was obvious though that Y/n was having a significantly easier time, practically resting as Nora continued to up her effort, attempting to budge him.

It was an uphill battle though.

Y/n: "Hey, Nora."

Not meeting his eyes, and grunting with strain, she did respond.

Nora: "Yeah?"

*Slam!*

Faster than she could blink, the match was over as Y/n absolutely floored Nora's arm. The latter reacted rather dramatically, practically faceplanting on the desk with a groan. A small scoff from the corner of the room caught the shades attention however.

Yang: "What, that's it? You didn't even budge him?"

Nora sent a pouted glare at Yang, while Y/n merely gave a short laugh.

Y/n: "What Yang? Think you can do better?"

The firecrackers confidence didnt waver for a second.

Yang: "I know I could."

Nora pried herself up from the desk, dramatically gesturing to her seat as she deadpanned at Yang.

Nora: "Well then, by all means madam smackdown. Step right up!"

Yang scoffed again.

Yang: "What, and just arm wrestle? That's  not nearly enough. We dont have what we need to make this a real contest thanks to school rules and such."

Yang expected a witty remark from either Y/n or Nora, but was instead just as surprised as everyone else when Y/n out of nowhere smacked a large bottle of what was clearly alchohol on the desk.

With a smirk, he mocked Yang.

Y/n: "Sorry what? I couldnt here you over how much of a chicken your being."

Cleary not having been ready for him to call her bluff, Yang stammered to make a comeback, however was only cut off by Y/n harassing her with chicken noises.

Eventually, with a growl, Yang stormed over and took a seat at the desk, immediately clasping arms with Y/n for the battle ahead. This time, Nora stood ready to call the match.

Nora: "3!

2!

1!

Go!!!"

...

About 45 minutes later, we can see a completely sober Y/n and Yang. So far, for every arm wrestling match he had won, he had taken a shot. He was now 23 shots in, and showed only to be buzzed.

Yang on the other hand, was entirely out of breath and intensely frustrated with how humiliated her recent almost 2 dozen defeats had been.

Ruby was amazed for a few reasons. One being how easily Y/n was flooring Yang, but also with how he wasnt absolutely wasted. Yang shared this curiosity, and she literally couldnt resist asking as he set down his 23rd shot glass.

Yang: "How are you even doing that?"

Ruby: "Seriously. This is crazy..."

Y/n chuckled as he was noticeably relaxed from the alchohol. He was far from drunk, but he was certainly buzzed up.

Y/n: "Hey, I've gotta be able to keep pace with Qrow one day dont I? And besides, I've practiced in moderation for a while now."

With a groan, Yang excused herself from the desk to go mingle with the rest of the three teams, leaving Y/n and Ruby to lounge around.

After a few more shots, as well as Ruby trying one out of curiosity, she wasnt a fan obviously, the Reaper had Y/n put away the alchohol. Feeling a little stuffy in the room, they both excused themselves to go for a little evening stroll.

The walk was fairly uneventful in of itself. The sun was setting, and Beacons grounds were practically empty. By some twist of fate they found themselves at the same bench as before, lounging on eachother as they watched the sunset.

The silence was comfortable, but was broken when Y/n furrowed his brow in thought.

Y/n: "Hey...Rosebud?"

Hearing the gears turning in the boys head, Ruby responded.

Ruby: "Yeah?"

He seemed to be doing some mental math but couldnt quite come to a conclusion in his mind. Something just wasnt...clicking.

Y/n: "...what's today's date...?"

Slightly confused at the question, Ruby racked her brain for a moment before responding.

Ruby: "August 12th I'm pretty sure..."

Y/n: "Huh..."

Y/n didnt speak again, merely staring off into the sunset with a strange look in his silver orbs. When Ruby felt the shadows arms tighten around her, concern laced her, forcing her to ask.

Ruby: "Is everything okay?"

Relaxing slightly, he snapped put of his short daze and spoke.

Y/n: "Yeah...yeah...its just...

I turned Eighteen last month..."

(I unfortunately dont have much to say here at the end. I'm exhausted right now...

This chapter was 1900 words...next chapter will be a little smaller as well for convenience sake. Otherwise I'll have to improv a shitton of filler. Let me know if you guys really want a full chapter next though, and I'll try.)

(Until next time)
