(Oh and quick heads up...shits about to get pretty heavy...)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Y/n Pov

(Currently dreaming)

'Its dark... '

'No...more than dark...'

'Where is everything...?'

'Where am I...?'

'What's that...smell...?'

'Its wet...and like...metal...'

'I taste...iron...?'

'Wait...no I recognize that taste...'

'Is that blood...?'

BANG

'What's happening?!'

'I-I cant see anything!'

'Hello?! HELLO?! WHERE THE HELL AM I?!?!'

A single light suddemly shone from above, only lighting myself, and small circle of the ground beneath me. The darkness beyond the light was like a thick, curtain, impossible to see through. I drew the first breath I remember taking...but something was...wrong. It was like I was breathing through my mouth, nose and chest at the same time, but when I looked at myself I was fine, this was all so weird, how did i even get here? And why is this so familiar?! Have I been here before? All I could see was this goddamn patch of turf I was on.

'Wait...turf?'

I was standing on a piece of sports field turf. Why?

'Why am I on a field? And what is that taste-?'

BANG

The same incredibly loud bang from before from before sounded. I could've sworn it sounded like a gunsho-

'No. No-no-no! Please dont be what I think this is! I dont want to see this agai-!'

BANG

I felt an aching, empty pain in my heart and my breath caught in my remaining lung. Not even able to keep my footing, I fell to the floor, landing face first with a wet slap. Looking at the turf now, it was soaked with blood, resting in an even, thin layer, staining the fake grass. My arms were cut and looked as if they had been grazed by something, and my legs were much the same, save a few holes going straight through my thighs. I tried to breathe, but the air caught in part of my chest again, and seemed to flow right out of me. I looked at my chest and saw a hole over where my heart should be, going straight through me, a practical river of blood flowing out. Looking back up I could see the rest of the field, stained with blood, the bodies...god where there really this many? Did I really kill this many people? The sky was painted the same crimson as the field. The stands were even worse, the first ten rows filled with corpses, riddled with holes and blood flowing freely down the stands. Men, Women, Children...Dad.

'This isnt how I wanted it to end but it's what happened. I know you believed there was one, so if there is a god...I hope he had the awnsers you needed.'

'Great...this is the second time I've had to watch myself die...still surrounded by victims. Both of the shooting...and of me'

I finally lost enough blood, and passed out, unsure if...whatever this was, had ended yet.

Rubys' Pov

I woke up...warm. The first thing I recalled was falling asleep while Y/n was singing, so it didnt really surprise me when I opened my eyes to see I had kind of trapped him on the bed. I propped myself up on my elbow to look at him and he didnt seem bothered though. It's kind of funny to me. If I had woken up to any other guy in my bed I would freak out, but with him, I just feel comfortable. How the heck did I even warm up to him this fast? I'm usually terrible at making friends but Y/n and I just hit it off...even though i tried to shoot him. Wait a minute...why is it so quiet...

'I sense a DISTINCT lack of loud snoring...'

Immediately filled with dread, I slowly turned my head to the rest of the room to see the most terrifying thing ever. It wasnt Blake, already in uniform and looking at us, it was the blonde terror standing right next to her, also in uniform already, and looking at the scene on my bed with a smirk that immediately told me I wasnt gonna hear the end of this any time soon. The worst part however, was the scroll in her hand, quickly telling me she had taken...most likely SEVERAL pictures.

Ruby: "Yang...the only thing I'm even gonna say...is not right now."

She let out a dark little chuckle and responded.

Yang: "What? No freak out? Normally you'd be a stuttering mess right now."

Well she wasnt wrong. I guess I'd gotten a bit more confident since he showed up...either that, or Yangs teasing is starting to affect me less. I looked at the clock to see it was still...5?!?.

Ruby: "Why are we up at 5 o clock?!"

Yang just shrugged in response, and Blake didnt have anything to say either.

"Well, I'm up now...I'm gonna go shower, try not to wake him up just yet."

Classes were originally meant to start today but there had been some issues among the staff apparently, meaning first years were instead given today to walk around and get familiar with the campus. We were still asked to wear our uniforms though.I grabbed my uniform and hood and stepped into the bathroom to do my business. Now dont get me wrong, the uniforms look good, no complaints there. But it's way too fancy! I feel like I'm putting on a suit with this thing! Oh well, at least I can still wear my hood...then again I'd like to see a teacher try and get me out of it.

I was just about done getting ready for the day when I felt an incredible pain in my chest, and my breath started to catch. I felt like something had just ripped through my heart, but there wasnt a scratch on me. My arms and legs felt like they had tons of huge holes and gashes on them, it even felt like there was one on my cheek, I couldnt even feel my left ear, there was just pain. I was practically panting for breath in between words.

Ruby: "W-whats happening?! What-CRAP Y/N!!"

Something had to be wrong with Y/n. We had shared at least some pain before, this had to be that. It was difficult but I managed to use the bathroom counter to support my way to the door and get it open. I still could barely keep my breath in my chest, it felt like it would flow right out but it didnt. I swung the door open and almost fell right on the floor, startling Yang and Blake. Once Yang saw the condition I was in she rushed over, instantly worried.

Yang: "Ruby! Are you ok?! What happened?!"

I was still clawing for breath as I spoke back to her.

Ruby: "H-help m-me get to Y-Y/n."

She was clearly confused but I guess she decided to trust me because she helped support me over to the bed where Y/n still was. My knees felt like they were going to give out, but we made it to the bed where Y/n was still asleep against the headboard. And he was not looking good.

Pretty much everything I felt he HAD. Gashes and cuts along his arms and legs, as well as several holes gone straight through him. He had a massive gash on his cheek, and his ear looked like it had been blown off entirely, all that was left was just mangled flesh.bthe worst of everything though was the hole in his chest. Whatever caused it left nothing behind. I could see straight through him, and he was shaking uncontrollably, looking incredibly pale. Well...as pale as a three-dimensional shadow can be. The wounds looked old, like he'd had them for a while now.

I needed to wake him up and figure out what was happening, so I started to shake him by his shoulder. The pain wasnt any better either.

Ruby: "Y-Y/n! Come on you n-need to wake up!"

He didnt show any signs of waking so I shook him harder.

Ruby: "C-come on! Wake up!"

I didnt think I was going to get him to wake up...and I was right. Blake did. She came into view holding a coffee mug filled with water, and dumped it on his face. Y/n took an incredibly sharp breath as he was hit with the presumably cold water. As soon as he woke up, the wounds and damage on his body just...disappeared, as if they were never there. The pain was gone so I was finally able to breath properly, the music box from last night fell off of the bed and Yang bent down to pick it up. I was more focused on Y/n though. His breathing was erratic, and he looked terrified. Like he'd had a glimpse into hell or something. Then again I can only imagine what the pain was like for him, I doubt i felt all of it. He didnt seem like he was calming down anytime soon so I grabbed him by the shoulders and tried to get his attention.

Ruby: "Y/n! Hey calm down. Whatever it was it's over okay? Look at me, can you do that for me?"

He looked me in the eyes, but still seemed scared. His normally sharp silver eyes were wide and glowing slightly.

"Your doing good Y/n, take it slow. Just breathe okay?"

He did his best to try and steady his breathing. After a few seconds he had managed to breath at an even pace, but it was still fast and shaky. He looked like he was on the verge of tears. Oum Y/n what happened to you?

Y/n: "I-I-I dont-what h-happened I-I-are y-you okay?"

He seriously looked like he could burst into tears any second. It was still early in the morning, and Weiss was still somehow asleep. Yang aas looking at the music box with a concerned look, while Blake was giving Y/n a similar look. Whatever this was I didnt want it waking up Weiss. I seriously doubt she would help this situation at all. I racked my brain for a second and made a decision, I stood up and helped Y/n onto his feet.

Ruby: "Come on. Follow me, just for a minute okay?"

I supported him and walked us over to the bathroom. I shut the bathroom door behind us with my foot and carried him go the edge of the bath, sitting him down. Even through being moved I could tell he was hardly keeping himself together, he might not have even noticed we had moved in the first place. I just wanted to help him, so I just did what seemed right. I wrapped him into a hug and spoke.

Ruby: "Its just us now, you dont have to worry anymore. Dont hold it in, just let it flow. Get it out."

He hesitated for a moment, trying to stay strong I could tell. I just tightened the hug, and pretty soon he caved, not able to hold the tears any longer. He could hardly even return the hug, his whole body shaking with loud, almost wailing sobs. No nightmare of any kind would put Y/n this low. This was more than that. This was over a whole months worth of bottling up his pain and loss, and it was finally being let out. He had worked so hard to hide all of it. How did he keep all of this hidden for so long? What was this doing to him?

Ruby: 'What exactly happened the day you died? What could do this to you?'

I didnt have all the answers, but that's not what was important right now. We must have sat there for almost an hour before his sobs started to slow down. Eventually he was silent, just sitting there, with no more tears left to shed and his head still buried in my shoulder.

Y/n: "I...I'm sorry. I-I didnt m-mean to-"

Ruby: "Dont you dare apologize. I should be the one apologizing, I should have noticed sooner."

I pulled back a bit to look at him. His eyes were their normal, sharp silver again. Shadowy tear tracks ran down his face.

Ruby: "Are you better now at least? Even if just a little bit?"

Y/n: "Y-yeah...I'm fine. Shit...I'm gonna have to explain this to the others."

I decided to let that one slide. Now is not the time for the swear jar.

Ruby: "We'll cross that bridge when we get there. But yeah, you have some explaining to do. I saw whatever it was that happened. Felt it too. You cant keep something like that bottled up, you dont need to anymore."

He seemed to mull this over in his head, conflict clear on his face.

Y/n: "You're right, you deserve to know the truth...all of you. Just...you might see me a bit differently after."

Whatever it was that was stopping him from opening up. He was clearly scared of what the truth would do. He didnt want to lose anything else.

Ruby: "Y/n I couldn't hold something against you like that. Just like you said you were for me. I'll be here. Every. Step. Of the way."

Y/n took one last deep breath, calming down as much as he was going to for now.

Y/n: "Okay...thank you rosebud. What time is it?"

I checked my scroll quickly and saw it was about 6:45.

Ruby: "Weve got plenty of time. No classes today, remember?"

Y/n: "Ok...let's...let's not keep the others waiting. This is gonna take a while."

I got back on my feet, and helped him to his own. We walked over to the bathroom door and I put my hand on the doorknob, looking back at him to make sure he was ready. This was going to be hard, I just wish it didnt have to happen on the first day of school. He took one last deep breath, and nodded. I turned the doorknob and we stepped out...

3rd Person Pov

Ruby opened the door to see all three of her teammates, sitting on one of the beds. Yang and Blake had woken Weiss after she dragged Y/n into the bathroom and told the story as far as they knew it. The three teammates were facing the duo with faces of concern and confusion, even Weiss, who hadn't even thought about how Y/ns' death might have left scars. She had only heard the bare minimum from the night in the ballroom. Blake was for the most part in the same boat but had a much better idea of how the past can cling to someone. Yang however was starting to get a good idea of what might have happened, she had found a piece of evidence she hadn't shared with anyone yet.

Ruby stepped out of the bathroom doorway and into the room, allowing Y/n to step through before she shut the door. The boy looked like his entire world was shattered, it was clear he had been crying, the shadowy tear tracks and somehow even darker bags under his eyes told a story on their own, even his hands were trembling slightly as he tried to hold himself together. He slowly made his way to the bed opposite of the three girls and sat down facing them, with Ruby sitting right beside him.

Y/n: "I know I have a lot to explain...and I dont know where to start so...I'm open to questions for now."

The three girls exchanged looks before Blake asked the question they all had.

Blake: "What happened to you? We know in essence that this is your second time around, that you died at some point. Considering all that you are that's pretty believable. But Oum Y/n...what exactly happened? Something like that doesnt just happen out of nowhere."

Weiss nodded her head in agreement, while Yang seemed slightly distracted, caught in worried thought. Y/n sat for a moment, not saying a word and looking down in thought. Eventually he looked at Ruby and then the three across from him, a concerned and pained expression crossing his face.

Y/n: "What I'm about to tell and show you four, may change the way any of you see me. For better or for worse I dont know, but I cant change the past. I never lied to you when I told you the story Ruby, but I didnt tell you the whole story."

This didnt serve well to put the three at ease. They were slightly worried about what exactly he had to say. Ruby however didnt seem to care. She had already told him he wouldn't hold anything against him and she meant it. The past is the past, right now Y/n just needed help getting out of it.

Ruby: "I could tell you were holding some details, but you cant keep hiding. What happened was a tragedy, and a nightmare. Nobody with a heart and mind could go through something like that and walk away without scars. I cant promise that those scars will ever completely heal, but if you continue to hide them, they'll fester and tear you apart. You need to tell the story. The entire story."

The three girls across from the duo seemed shocked from Rubys' words. Weiss and Blake had never seen her approach something with so much maturity before. Yang had seen it before but was still taken aback. Yang hadn't seen this side of Ruby in a long time, not since she had become old enough to understand better what happened to her mother, and Yangs stepmother, Summer Rose. She was a huntress who lost her life on a mission while Ruby was barely even a toddler. When she was finally old enough to fully understand what had happened it had put her in a dark place, but she had her father and sister to help her through her troubles.

Summers death had left a certain maturity in Ruby that not many people could say they'd seen. She knew the pain of loss, and understood what it meant to lose your way. The current situation was serious beforehand, but now Yang could see just how important this talk was. Y/n and Ruby had been bonded for over a month now, and if anybody knew how important this was, it was Ruby. Yang fiddled with the now closed music box she held in her hands, wondering if she should reveal what she had found. Before she could decide however the boy in question went to dim the lights, plunging the room into a dim twilight before he sat back down in his place.

Y/n: "Theres a lot of ground to cover so let's start with the setting."

He put his hands out in front of him and focused on the space between the two beds. After some intense concentration he managed to create a replica of a large football stadium, the replica itself being large enough to simulate a crowd cheering in the stands, and what looked like little players in the field, playing out the sport.

There was one figure however in the third row of the stands that stood out from the rest. Unlike all the other crowd members, who were shadowy figures, this one was madd of a bright silver light, and unlike the rest of the jumping and cheering crowd, was sitting neutrally in its seat, looking just about as apathetic as a blank miniature figure can be. Y/n pointed at the silver figure.

Y/n: "That was me. Sitting there for the game next to my best friend, as well as my dad and stepmom. It was honestly a good match. One of the few high points I ever had."

As he said this a figure on the field waived his way through the other players with a ball in his hand. Reaching the end of the field and scoring. His teammates came and hyped him on as the crowd erupted in cheering and applause. The faint roar of the crowd emanating from the replica stadium.

Y/n: "This was a super famous sport where I came from. Played all over the country, it was one of our nation's unique gifts to the world. Hundreds of thousands of people would gather in stadiums like these to watch the game. Especially this one, it was the biggest of the season, known as the superbowl. I remember dad loved football..."

A faint sile crept it's way onto his face at the memory of his father, and a figure in the crowd next to the silver one, changed from a shadow to a deep blue color, jumping up and down in excitement. His smile soon faded though as he continued his story.

Y/n: "This game was special for other reasons too though. This was a brand new stadium, the largest one ever built, and held the most people that any other stadium had before it. There was some concern from the government about what this could bring so there were some marshals on the field to make sure nothing went wrong...lot of good that did..."

He stopped speaking and gestured to the field, deciding to let the girls watch the scene for themselves. The players were gathering in the center of the field, readying for the next play, when the four tunnels on each corner of the field let out a sinister red light. Hundreds of shadowy bullets flew from the tunnels, leaving a fading trail behind them and tearing into every player, coach, referee and marshal on the field. Screams erupted from the crowd as around 25 pure black figures carrying rifles came walking out of the tunnels and onto the field. The onslaught didnt stop however, and the four girls watched in horror as a hail of death ripped into the crowd...Y/n and his father were among the first to be targeted. Y/n watched with a grimm familiarity as his father's figure was riddled with gunfire and slumped against his seat in the stands, fading from his deep blue back to a shadow.

Y/n however wasnt killed, confusing Ruby. He had told her that he was shot down in the crowd alongside his father. Instead however, he stumbled over the barrier and down onto the field, taking cover behind a barrier on the field, unnoticed by the shooters. The figure seemed to slump against the barrier for a moment and Y/n spoke over the faint gunfire and screams.

Y/n: "I knew I was about to die, it's what I was planning on, but it was different now. Those bastards slaughtered my father...my friend...my family..."

The figure on the field looked to a nearby body, as a small pistol on its waist glowed a silver light. Y/n almost choked on his next words, trying to hold in tears.

"They killed the only people I lived for..."

The figure crawled over to the body and picked up the pistol, and grabbed two spare magazines from the corpse.

"I wanted nothing more than to make them hurt even half as much as I was..."

The figure, with gun in hand crouched behind the barrier, and waited. Eventually most of the gunmen on the field stopped to reload.

"So I went to War..."

Y/ns' figure sprung from its hiding place, and began to let silver bullets fly into the herd of shooters. He managed to down almost half of them before they started to shoot back. Hits were traded both ways, with Y/n taking multiple hits and grazes, but his shots were more precise as for every hit the gunmen landed, he downed one of them.

Y/n himself was watching the scene play out as tears now freely ran down his face. The sound of his own gunshots reverberating in his head, and beating against his mind. He saw all of their faces, and every shot he took.

The girls had a mix of different reactions. Blake was watching with an almost apologetic look. She had a much better idea of how this was affecting Y/n. Weiss didnt know what to make of what she was seeing, a look of shock and confusion plastered on her face.

Ruby was watching the scene with even greater shock than Weiss, but she wasnt confused. This was a wake up call for her. All the times Y/n had been so uncomfortable talking about his death, that flash of regret he never knew she could see. The sleepless nights and baggy eyes. He was haunted by himself. He acted on his rage and killed. He probably didnt even recognize himself.

Yang was starting to get the picture. She sat there silently and looked at the now open music box resting in her hands. There was a figurine in the center. A featureless figure stood ina field of blood red Rose's that seemed to be dripping blood. The figure itself stood with its head hanging, shoulders slumped, and knees bent as if it was about to collapse. Parts of its silver figure were stained in red blotches and tears flowed freely down its face.

The scene on the football field was coming to a close as Y/ns' figure now stood in the center of the field, a thin layer of red coating the ground. It was cut and gashed, with small holes on its arms and legs. It stood alone on the field, breathing heavily and beginning to stumble. One of the downed shooters stirred and raised its gun, spraying three final shots. Two of the shots went wild and missed but the third and final shot struck true, tearing through the figures heart and chest, leaving a large hole going all the way through. The figure lurched forward from the impact and spun to face the shooter, laying the rest of its shots into the gunman. When the bullets ran dry, the pistol dropped from the figures hand and he fell onto his back. The rest of the stadium faded away, leaving the glowing silver figure on a small circle of ground, breathing heavily. Eventually the figures light began to flicker slightly, stuttering between life and death, before its light went out for good, vanishing with the piece of ground.

The lights seemed to come back on by themselves...
