Chapter Two

I stood in front of my mom, my head bowed. I was prepared for her lecture about bringing one of them into our house. We all made an agreement once we had moved here that we never socialize with the people who could bring us to our downfall.

"Lily, do you understand what you have done?" My mom pressured, the look on her face one of disappointment. "Do you know what your father will do once he finds out you've brought her to our house? Dear God Lily, I don't even know what to say."

I nodded, "I'll take care of it, mom."

A loud sigh came from her lips, and she turned walking over to the pot that was still laying on the ground. "Fix this before your father comes home." With that being said, my mom walked back into the kitchen, shutting the door behind her.

"You did it now, idiot." Kayla said, coming down the stairs. I ignored her, going back into the living room where the girl was now sitting on the couch, looking around her. She jumped when I walked into the room, looking down at her lap quickly.

"Um. . .where's my mommy?" She quietly asked, her voice shaking with every word. Slowly she looked up, her bright blue eyes brimmed with tears.

"She left you here so I can take care of you while she went shopping." I said, trying to come up wiht an excuse, this caused the little girl to frown, shaking her head.

"You don't have to lie, miss. I know there is no shopping center anymore. It broke." My eyes widened at her words, my breath stopping in my throat. "You're house is gonna break soon too! See, the walls cracked over there."

I felt as if everything around me had stopped, this little girl was saying things she shouldn't have been saying. She was supposed to be seeing something that was beautiful, living in a world of lies. Yet, here she was seeing everything as it really was, but her eyes gave it away, it gave away that she indeed had been given Pristine.

"Miss?" She asked, tilting her head and looking at me in concern.

"I'll be right back," I mumbled, and ran into the kitchen where my mom sat at the table, looking like she was deep in thought. Once I entered the kitchen, she slowly looked up, her once soft face turning emotionless.

"She's not like them. Mom, she see's things the way they really are."

I could hear my mom's gasp from where I stood in the doorway, she abruptly stood, pushing her chair in and pushed past me and stopped in her tracks because of the little girl standing in the hallway.

"Um. . .I had to go to the bathroom, and I didn't know where to go. . ." The little girl said quietly, now slightly scared because of my mom's presence. Slowly, my mom started to calm down and she pointed upstairs.

"First door on the left."

The little girl nodded, running off, and my mom waited until she heard the door close, then she turned to me. "What exactly do you mean, Lily?"

"I mean, she see's everything the way it really looks. She knows the shopping mart collasped, and she can even see our house rotting. But how can that be mom, she's taken Pristine, you can tell by her eyes!" I whispered, knowing the little girl could be listening at any given moment.

My mom shook her head, "I don't know, Lilly, I really don't know. Once you've taken Pristine, you're world is supposed to change. Unless she has just recently been given it, which, I know she hasn't judging by her age, then I have no explanation for you."

I went to speak but stopped when the little girl came down the stairs, "Should I just go back in the room I was in before?" She asked, tilting her head.

My mom forced a smile onto her face, nodding. "I'll come with you, dear, come now." She gently took the little girls hand and led her into the room. I followed behind them silently, leaning against the doorway.

My mom sat across from the little girl, examining her closely. Finally, she spoke, "So, um, what's your name?"

"Rosie!" Rosie giggled as she said this, as if her name held some hidden meaning.

"Rosie, what do you see? What does our home look like to you?"

"It looks like those homes from those zombie movies," Rosie said, thinking a bit before adding more. "You don't have eyes likes everyone else."

My mom shook her head, "No, I don't. No one in our family does, do you know why everyone has those eyes, Rosie? Eyes like yours?"

"No, but I like my eyes, I think they're pretty!" She smiled, kicking her feet back and forth, looking at my mom. My mom sat there for a couple minutes and jumped when the front door opened.

I leaned back, looking down the hall and met the face of my brother. "Hey, sis." He mumbled, walking down the hallway and quickly going upstairs. I frowned, something must of happened.

My dad walked in next, looking extremely exhausted. Yet, once he saw me, a smile broke out on his face. "Hey, baby girl."

"Hi, dad." I smiled back, almost falling backwards when my mom walked past me, accidentally bumping into me. She ran down the hallway and into my dad's waiting arms, hugging him tightly.

"Oh thank god. I was so worried." She whispered.

"You're worried everyday, Jill. Yet, everyday I come here, just for you and the kids." My dad said back, pulling away from my mom.

"Well, Lily has a surprise for you, that I think you'll very interesting." My dad stopped looking at my mom, and looked at me instead.

"Well, I may have found a little girl, Rosie and brought her inside. . ." I saw my dad's face darken but I continued, "That's not all! She's different dad, she's taken Pristine, but she sees things for how they really are!"

"Let me see her." I nodded, showing him into the front room. Rosie sat quietly on the couch and my father walked over, kneeling in front of her.

"Hi there, what's your name?" My father asked quietly. 'Lily, can you go to your room, please?"

I frowned, but obeyed my dad, and walked away with Rosie responding and telling my dad her name. Once I was in my room, I went to my bed and took my notebook and started sketching Rosie.
