Chapter Seven

"Who are you?"

The question surprised the young girl in front of me, resulting in her even dropping the rag, wide eyes looking at me. "What?" She asked quietly, as if she hadn't heard me.

Once the girl realized I was fully seriously, I could see tears gathering in her eyes but she blinked them away, picking up the rag from her lap. "Kayla. Your sister." Her words were curt and harsh, as if she couldn't believe I couldn't remember her.

I thought for a moment as I went over the words she said. A sister? I didn't remember any type of siblings and I most certainly didn't remember this girl. However I could barely remember anything from the past few days and I knew there was something behind this.

Why had I suddenly forgotten stuff this important to me? How could I even forget I had a sister?

"Oh," I mumbled as I stared at Kayla's hurt and confused face. "I don't know what happened, I just suddenly forgot a whole bunch of things. . ."

Kayla still looked confused and I guessed I wasn't making much sense but what I was saying was actually the truth. I heard a sigh come from the girl in front of me and she just continued dabbing at my face making me wonder what was on it.

"Your name is Lily, you're sixteen years of age and you're my sister. We have an older brother named Bryce and our parents were killed five nights ago." I opened my eyes once again and looked at the girl in front of me, was she saying these things to fill me in?

"Your favorite color is aqua and you rescued a little girl named Rosie. Y-you had a cat named Hector when we were little but then it was killed somehow. You're five foot five and your eyes are brown. Your hair is blonde and you look a lot like our mom."

I didn't let the small girl speak anymore as I pulled into my chest, wrapping my arms around her tightly. I may not have remembered who she was at that moment but I knew I meant a lot to her and I would make sure that I kept whatever bond we had before.

Our moment was cut short as a boy with brown hair busted into the room, a frantic look on his face. "We need to go. Now."

I didn't question him, even if I had no idea who this was but it certainly seemed like Kayla did as she nodded, rushing to get things throughout the room. "Kayla, get your gear on. Lily, you too. I'll go and help the others. Rosie and the other children are being evacuated."

I followed Kayla into the bathroom as we got changed into clothes that looked like they were for combat and I gasped when I saw myself in the mirror. My own left eye was swollen and my face was stained red slightly.

I knew I would be feeling the pain later.

I was still staring at myself in the mirror as Kayla pulled me from the bathroom and the boy was long gone but the sounds of people running in the hallways and some screams could be heard.

Kayla had a look of fear placed on her face but I guess she knew what had to be done and right now that was fighting for our lives. I felt Kayla push a heavy object into my arms and my eyes widened when I realized that it was a gun.

This was a weapon that could kill someone and I wasn't sure I would be able to do this, I couldn't even remember my won sister, how could I remember how to use a gun?

By the time I had stopped spacing out Kayla was already out of the room and running down the hallways, me quickly behind her. Even with a weapon half her size this girl could move fast and I was surprised she hadn't tripped up yet, when I surely had.

I had probably tripped almost five times now.

I almost slammed into Kayla when we came to what looked like an entrance and from what I could see, it lead outside. "Lily, don't leave me a lone, okay? I don't want to lose you too." With that she ran out the door and into the darkness.

I waited a few seconds before rushing out after the small girl. The bond I had with her wasn't about to be put to waste, I was going to keep that bond strong and protect her with my life. I would die for her, even if I didn't remember her.

I knew that she meant something to me and that I was something to her as well, and I couldn't just let that go away.

As soon as I was outside, I was aware of all the fire around me and the screams of people. I wanted to shut my eyes right away from the grueling images in front of me. There were people running around trying to get rid of the fire on their bodies, their screams sounding throughout the air and leaving itself imprinted inside my head.

The one thing that stood out to me was the fact that the people weren't dying, but instead where only in severe pain. Another thing was the fact that their eyes were shining bright blue and could be seen through the fire.

It was creepy and horrifying, since I would think that people would most likely die from being burned like this.

I just decided to ignore these people and ran the opposite way, trying to find Kayla in the midst of the crowd, all who seemed to be trying to run away.

That was when I heard the sound of guns in the distance.

I ran towards the sound, deciding that I would most likely find Kayla there. I wasn't wrong, because she was there but I had suspected more people to be with her.

Instead Kayla stood defending herself and a little boy who looked no older then five. The boy was crying as he held onto the back of Kayla's shirt, hiding behind her as Kayla shot bullet after bullet at the people advancing at her.

The people however just got right back up, continuing to walk towards Kayla and it seemed like the guns had appeared out of no where.

Everything seemed to go in slow motion then as I dropped my own gun and tried running towards the two children in dire need of my help. They had at least twenty people advancing on them and Kayla had just run out of bullets.

Kayla turned to look at me and even though tears were going down her face, she managed a smile that lit up her face. She mouthed something to me and I could barely make it out throughout the own tears in my eyes.

"KAYLA!"

That was when the first bullet went straight threw my younger sister's head, killing her instantly.
