Chapter Nine

I felt my breath get caught in my throat, staring at Zayn. "What?" My voice came out as a whisper, having spoken only a few words the past few days. I didn't trust myself to say more and let Zayn lead me to wherever Rosie was.

I was silent and just listened to the uneven sound of my breathing mixed with Zayn's heavy footsteps. He kept glancing back at me, leading me up a steep hill. We had now been walking for at least ten minutes and we were now surronded by trees and wildlife. I so badly wanted to ask where exactly we were going but I didn't have the courage.

I used to resent Zayn, I still dislike him to a certain extent but that was before he had started helping me in find my loved ones. When he had also closed Kayla's eyes, I felt like a new side of him had been unsheathed. I was scared that I would accidently wind up making this part of Zayn leave.

"It's peaceful, isn't it?" Zayn said quietly, almost to where I couldn't hear him but I didn't let it slip past me.

I nodded in response, "Yeah, and very beautiful as well."

Zayn looked as if he was going to say something else but stopped himself, his face straining. His expression changed when his foot got caught in a root, making him land on his stomach on the forest floor. A small gasp came from me and I hurried over to him, making sure to avoid the very root he had tripped on.

"Zayn!" My voice sounded strangled and forgein to me. I watched as he sat up with a grunt, kneeling down beside him and gently placed my dirt covered hand on his broad shoulder. Zayn just pushed it off, and I allowed it to hang loosely by my side. "Are you alright?"

Zayn just shrugged, his expression showing otherwise. I didn't know why he was doing this now, before he had been perfectly comfortable with me, and now not even two minutes later he's acting like his old self. I knew I sounded like a clingy person, but I couldn't help the way I felt. I just wanted some type of affection. Something that told me that Zayn didn't hate me as much as I thought.

I stood up with Zayn, my eyes not taking in the beauty of the scenery anymore. I had wished for a normal life and when I thought I finally had one, that was all taken from me. Now when I thought it was getting better, my own sister is killed right before my eyes and now the only person I have relatively to speak too, is ignoring me. I had Bryce, but something was off about him and I just preferred to stay away from him, even though he was my own older brother.

I decided to just keep climbing after Zayn, my thoughts becoming scattered like the wind. I didn't watch where I was going, bumping straight into him. He grunted a little under his breath, then turned and looked at me, as if he was making sure I hadn't heard him. I couldn't help but let myself smirk, just to show him, I had indeed heard him.

I stepped out from around Zayn, my mouth falling open at the sight in front of me. It looked like a makeshift camp, tents and supplies scattered everywhere, along with toys and bottles. That was when I heard the laughter, I ran straight toward the tent I heard it coming from and yanked open the flap before Zayn could stop me.

Inside the tent sat Rosie, a child no older a year old sat upon her lap. Three other children also sat inside the tent, an older women sat in front of Rosie, making sure she wasn't dropping the baby. However, as soon as I opened the tent flap, her head snapped to me instantly and I couldn't stop myself as I flung myself at Rosie, the tears already escaping my eyes.

"Oh my god! Don't you ever scare me like that again!" I just sat there hugging Rosie, making sure not to crush neither her nor the baby, although that was pretty hard. Finally I pulled away from Rosie, wiping my eyes and quietly turned back towards the entrance of the tent and looked at Zayn. He stood there with his arm crossed, a small smile on his face. However, once he saw me staring, the smile was quickly gone and I frowned. Did he not want people too see him smile?

The women looked at Zayn and then at me, before taking the baby from Rosie's arms. "Who are you?"

I once again glanced at Zayn, seeing as I thought he had known the women but I had thought wrong. "I'm Lily, Rosie's. . . older sister."

The women narrowed her eyes, "How can I believe you? First, you look nothing like her. Second, you hesitated on upon giving your answer. I don't think I can believe a single word you're saying. "

That was when everything finally settled into Rosie's tiny brain and she flung her arms around me, a laugh coming from her mouth. "Lily! I missed you!" The women's mouth just fell open as if she was going to tell Rosie to stop but I narrowed my eyes at her, silencing her.

I sat there holding Rosie for what seemed like forever, my fear of letting her go getting the best of me. I was afraid that if I did happen to let go, then she too would disappear from my life, just as Kayla did.

"Lily, you're squeezing the poor girl to death." Zayn's deep voice made me jump, having forgotten that we were out in the open and not somewhere where I could just hug Rosie all I wanted. I let go of her before turning to the women, whom I've yet to find out her name. However, before I had the chance, one of the youngest children ran up to me his blonde hair shining even though it was fairly dim.

He green eyes stared at me as if they were boring into my soul, making me slightly uncomfortable. What the boy said next send shivers down my spine and I had a feeling this was soon going to become reality.

"You're gonna die." The women gasped, yanking the boy back and forcing him to sit down.

"Charles! You don't just say that to someone!"

Charles just looked up at the women, confusion all over his face. "But you said I help people, Krysta! I'm helping!"

Krysta decided to just ignore him, turning to me instead, irritation flashing on her face. "I am so sorry. He normally knows to just keep his mouth shut, but I guess he couldn't help it. If you---"

Zayn cut the Krysta off, now sitting down next to me and Rosie. He looked eager and ready for answers. "What did he mean?"

This seemed to startle Krysta, her answer coming a minute later after the question was asked. "Charles has a gift. It's like he get little flashes of the future. I don't really understand it but that's all I can get from it."

I most certainly didn't like the smile on Zayn's face.
