Chapter Five
Zayn stood up, the children instantly noticing the women got off of Zayn and ran over to the toys on the other side of the room, obviously scared of her. The women rose her eyebrows at him, as if she was waiting for an answer.
Zayn shrugged, as if he wasn't scared of the women standing in front of him but I could tell that even Jared was scared of her. Then again, Jared looked like the type of person to be afraid of anybody.
"Whatever, Zayn, you're needed in the training area, and Jared, what the hell are you wearing? Go and get changed and take a shower while you're at it." The women said as she scrunched up her nose, Jared hurrying past her as he probably ran back to whatever room I had been in with him before.
The women turned to leave but Zayn spoke up before she could, "Why am I needed there?" He questioned, obviously not pleased that he had to go and do something.
I heard a sigh come from the women and Kayla looked at me with a questioning look, I just shrugged, I didn't know who she was and obviously neither did Kayla.
"You're needed to teach the new recruits. Which reminds me, the two girls behind you are two of them." I was now overly confused. First, I didn't know who this women was at all and then second, I was to be trained, but what for? I was certainly no fighter and I didn't plan to be.
I knew what happened to the people that resisted the government, they fought with all their heart and then one by one each and every person was killed, even the family that had been left behind. You couldn't win against the government, I knew this at least.
Finally, I decided to step up and ask the women, whoever she was, what she meant. I mean, I was not going to let Kayla be trained and then killed, she was only eleven!
"Excuse me ma'am, I don't mean to interrupt but what training?" Zayn sent me a look that told me shut up but I couldn't stop myself, I needed to know.
"Why, training so we can attack the government, of course." She said, turning to look at me, her lips pulled back into that tight frown she had kept this entire time of being in the room.
"I don't mind the training ma'am," Actually, I despised it, "but I do not feel comfortable with the fact that my younger sister will be submerged into this type of violence."
The women seemed to think for a moment, her eyes going onto Kayla before looking back at me, "She's eleven, correct?"
I nodded, not understanding what the point in asking Kayla's age was.
"Then under the law of obligation, she must be trained. At the age of ten, all children here start training. "
I went to say more but she held up her hand, silencing me. "I cannot do anything about the law, you will be trained, your sister will be trained, your brother will be trained and when the time comes, little Rosie over there will be trained as well if this isn't over."
I couldn't believe it, everything was going to waste, the fact that my parents had given up their lives to save ours was slowly being pushed away with the fact that we were now under the control of whoever these people were.
I began thinking that it was a bad thing that we had come here but now Zayn was in front of me and I was forced to stop thinking and I looked at him angrily, "Yes?"
"Did you not just here what the women said? I need to take you and your sister to training." He said as he started towards the door, Kayla following behind him slowly.
I sighed as I followed them both, I knew that none of this would end up good.
After making many turns down the hallways, Kayla, Zayn and I came to a room that basically looked like a gym. The only thing I noticed was that it was more built for fighting then for working out. I could see a store room in the back with what looked to be filled with guns and knifes and who knows what else and in a very small corner was exercise equipment.
I assumed I would be spending very little time in that area and knew I would be trained more in fighting then working out.
Zayn began his walk over to what looked like punching bags and standing in front of them was Bryce and what looked like about five kids about Kayla's age or a little older.
"Today's lesson will be the basics in fighting without using any type of weapon." Zayn said, looking at the group. "I will not only teach you too push your own physical strength but you must push your mind. If you don't push your mind, I can assure you won't get anywhere. The bag won't even move."
Zayn walked over to a bag, he stared at a few minutes before drawing his arm back and throwing a punch, from the side the punch looked pretty pathetic but I was surprised when the bag went flying off the hanger connecting it the beam above us, landing on the ground.
I was surprised to say the least and I heard Bryce scoff. Zayn looked at him, as if questioning him. "What? You think you can do better?" He asked, and I could basically feel the pride swelling from Bryce.
Bryce stepped towards another punching bag, he stood there for a few moments and lifted his good arm, throwing a punch. The bag moved to say the least but it didn't fly off like Zayn's had. I was still impressed.
Zayn didn't even smile, he held the same hard look on his face, "Weak." That was all said before turning to look at a boy who was very small and looked even younger then Kayla.
"Mitchell, want to show him how it's done?" He asked and I rolled my eyes, there was no way this little boy could be any better then Bryce.
The young boy went in front of a punching bag, he stood still like Bryce and Zayn had before he swung his fast. It was so fast that it was a blur and the punching bag had flew from the hinges, landing even farther then Zayn's had.
Zayn's hard expression was replaced by one of pride as he high-fived Mitchell. "Good job, you're definitely getting a treat later."
I stepped forward then when the others also went to their own individual punching bags, from the corner of my eyes I could see Bryce helping Kayla, even though I knew he should be training himself.
I stood for about two minutes just standing in front of the punching bag, inspecting it at every angle. I could feel Zayn watching me, so I decided to try out his little theory.
I cleared my mind of every thought except for punching the punching bag and swung my fist.
The bag didn't even move an inch but I could feel the force of my hit and the burn of the bag on my knuckles. I was sure my mouth was hanging open in pain and I felt like I had broken my hand. I didn't know how Bryce, Zayn or even little Mitchell could withstand this type of pain.
"I thought I told you too push your mind?" I heard Zayn ask from behind me and I rolled my eyes as I turned around, "Yeah, I did."
"You lack in strength." He said, stating the obvious basically. I nodded, shrugging.
"I do. So what? From what I get from you is that you're a cold-hearted asshole."
Zayn seemed to think for a moment, "So you're a strategist more then a fighter?" He asked.
I shrugged and just turned back towards my punching bag, I was going to make myself stronger to protect my family, even if it killed me.
