Messed Up Plans

Looking back, it could have gone either way. It didn't work out, which makes it look like fate, or a stupid decision, or both. But at the time, I did have a few things in my favor. I had my mind that was as sharp as a knife. I even had the cameras that were down, making the plan that much easier to conduct. Everything was going perfectly until Saline tripped one of the alarms. It had been five months since I'd seen her. Five months of long and hard planning to figure out how to get her free. It took a total of five people including myself to work the plan until the end.

We were almost out of the woods, all we had to do was make it through the hallway and out to the van that was waiting to take us to my team's "hide-out". I thought everything was going to work out until the chiming started. Saline had forgotten to mention the little procedure she had under gone during her second month here. When we passed the threshold to the main hallway, the security chip in Saline's wrist triggered an internal alarm system. After that, everything went sideways. Guards came from every direction and we were surrounded in a matter of seconds. I dropped her hand and tried to figure a way out, but nothing came to mind.

Multiple laser sights found their way to my chest, threatening to shoot me, center mass, a sure kill for if things got messy. But it never came to that, instead Saline and I dropped to our knees, hands behind our heads with our fingers laced together. Now I've been bouncing back and forth between my cell and this interrogation room.

The nameless man across me clears his throat and I roll my eyes. "We know that you never could've achieved what you did alone. Tell me who you worked with and we'll reduce your sentence."

I laugh and spit in his face. "I ain't no rat."

No, instead I'll wait for my crew to conduct the back-up plan and save both Saline and I.
