Chosen
It flashed through the sky and then was gone. Lucy was sure she had seen a UFO and was equally sure aliens were here to secretly make contact with a human being. Maybe they would choose her. Maybe she would get to visit their ship. Maybe she would be the chosen one to learn and be the messenger of all their knowledge. Maybe she would even be welcomed into their ranks.
"Lucy?" She looks to her friend, startled for she had forgotten she wasn't alone. "Why did you stop in the middle of the road?" She looks down at her feet and notices the fading white lines of a crosswalk.
Lucy clears her throat and shakes her head. "It's nothing. I was just thinking."
Car horns blare through the night, harmonizing with the angry yells of the people behind them. "Well, how about thinking on the side-walk and not in the middle of the road?"
Lucy nods and she and her friend jog the rest of the way to the side-walk. Thoughts jumble in her head and all she can determine is that she needs to get rid of her friend as soon as possible and be alone. "Julie?" She looks down at her phone, pretending to read a message. "Your mum just texted me saying you need to get back home. I would hurry, she sounds angry."
Lucy bites her cheek, lying through her teeth. "Crap! I so forgot about curfew! I'll see you tomorrow!" Her friend runs off and once she rounds the corner, Lucy takes off as well. She runs to the closet clearing she can think of. She begins to pace, waiting to be chosen.
This was something she has hoped for her whole life, and it will finally come true. She will have a chance to prove that the government has been covering aliens up. She'll be famous, for she was chosen to pass along the message of a higher species. She will have had contact with the extraterrestrials when nobody else has, or at least be able to prove it.
Lucy's excitement is only paralleled by her nervousness. How will she speak to them? Will she bow? Will she-
Her thoughts are interrupted by a bright, blinding light. Soon she's looking at a twin bright light that is pointed at her face while she sits in a chair in a new place. A voice comes from behind the light.
"We have been looking for you for a very long time, Julie." The voice held no emotion or tone that could help Lucy identify who it belongs to.
"Um...what? I, I think you have the wrong girl."
