The Rest Of The Winglet

A few minutes later, Moon found herself walking to the Prey Center with Joy, Air, and Nightflyer. The noise of the place made her want to scream. There was prey and yelling dragons everywhere. The small group stood in the entranceway as Clay began yelling.

"EVERYONE STOP MOVING!" he bellowed. "Especially you chickens! CHICKENS GIVE UP! WE'RE GOING TO EAT YOU! THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT! STOP RUNNING AWAY RIGHT NOW!" Beside her, Air face-taloned and shut her eyes.

"What is it?" Nightflyer asked her.

"That would be my dad." she explained.

"Ooo fruit!" Joy exclaimed, flying off towards a mountain of fruit. "Come on guys!" she called back. The three of them flew after her and landed nearby.

"What are these things?" Air asked, holding up a pineapple. Nightflyer laughed.

"You've never had fruit before?" he asked. Air shook her head. Joy's jaw dropped.

"Oh my moons. Nightflyer, Moon. We need to educate her. Now!" she exclaimed. Nightflyer nodded, and handed Air some berries.

"Try these." he insisted. She looked at him skeptically.

"Trust me! They're delicious." he promised.

"Whewf," a voice behind them said suddenly. Air turned to see Clay. She smiled at him.

"Hi dad." she greeted him.

"Hey Air," he replied. "So, um.....my plan hasn't exactly gone as......planned."he admitted.

"Dad, this place is MADNESS." Air insisted. Nightflyer nodded in agreement.

"I know," he agreed. "This, uh, wasn't exactly what I had imagined."

"SCAVENGER!" someone yelled. Clay frowned.

"We don't have any of those in here." he trailed off, wandering away. Air facetaloned again.

And you know what happened next, So...

The next day......

Moon awoke with a start as someone pounced on her tail.

"GOOD MORNING!" an entirely too awake Air cried. "We get to meet the rest of our Winglet today! So....GET UP!"

"Alright." Moon said groggily. "I'm up."

"Yes!" Air replied. Air jumped off moon's bed and poked at Joy. "Come on! Wake up!" she announced. Joy didn't even move. Air ran over to one of the scroll racks and pulled out one. She threw the scroll at Joy and yelled.

"Time to wake up!" Without even opening her eyes, Joy reached out, caught the scroll, and threw it across the room; where it ended up smacking Carnelian in the face. Carnelian let out a yelp and shot up. Joy opened her eyes and glanced at her.

"That actually hit? Cool." Joy exclaimed.

"Get up!" Air urged. "We have to go meet our Winglets!" As if on cue, a loud gong echoed through the school. Carnelian reluctantly got up and left the cave. Joy and Moon followed Air sleepily down the hallway.

"Have you guys explored yet?" Air asked.

"No," Moon admitted.

"I've mostly been exploring the Art cave, but I know where everything else is too." Air replied.

"The art cave?" Joy said suddenly. "Where's that?" Air glanced at her.

"Do you like art?" she asked. Joy shook her head.

"Not really, but my brother is a huge artist. He'll probably be in that cave for the rest of the year." she explained. Air grinned.

"Well then I'll have to keep an eye out for him. What's his name?" she questioned.

 "Rainkeeper." Joy replied.

Air, Joy, and Moon were the first group from their Winglet to show up. They were meeting with Tsunami

I remember her, Moon realized. She thought back to yesterday, when she was still safely in her mother's wings. Queen Coral had arrived with three dragonets. As they had landed, a blue dragon-Tsunami- had reluctantly walked out to greet them. She had greeted two of the dragonets happily, but went stone-like around the actual Queen. They had glared at each other for a moment.

"I'm really not sure about this." Coral had said.

"It'll be fine." Tsunami had promised, her voice like steel. "I'll take care of Anemone."

"I am only letting this happen because Anemone has been badgering me about it every day since she got your message about the school." Coral explained. She turned to one of the dragonets. "But you can come home anytime, you understand? If you feel threatened, or lonely, or overworked, or tired-"

"I'll be fine," the dragonet promised.

"Who's this?" Tsunami had asked, looking at the third dragonet.

"This is one of your brothers." Coral explained. "Which one are you again?"

"Turtle." the dragonet replied. He didn't seem to mind that his mother didn't even know his name. Tsunami had smiled at him before turning back to her mother.

"So nice to see that you love all of your dragonets equally." she said sarcastically.

"Who cares about sons?" Coral asked. "They can't inherit the throne." There was a twinge of fury in Tsunami's mind.

"Well, not all dragons share that opinion. Some actually happen to care about their sons." she snapped.

"Please don't start this argument again." Anemone had begged. "Not here."

"Fine." Tsunami had agreed, shooting another glare at her mother. That conversation had caught Moon's interest. What had happened to make a mother and a daughter hate each other so much?

They weren't alone in the cave for long. A Mudwing and a Seawing dragonet walked in soon after.

"Umber!" Air yelled, barreling into the Mudwing.

"Hey Air." he replied.

"Hi Kelp." Tsunami said with a smile. The sky-blue Seawing smiled back, but in his mind one thought was on repeat. Oh for the love of the moons, please don't embarrass me. Why couldn't you be Seashell's group? Why me!? Moon bit back a grin at his embarrassment. But the grin faded fast as the rest of the Winglet walked in. It was them- Winter and Qibli.

"So," Tsunami began when they were all sitting in a circle. "How about we introduce ourselves. Anybody want to go first?" Nobody moved.

"Okay, I guess I'll start." she continued. "I'm Tsunami, obviously. I'm Head of School, so I'm basically the boss. Oh, and fun fact, Kelp," she went on, gesturing to the Seawing dragonet. "Is actually my son. Next?"

"Well, I might as well go now." Kelp offered. "My name is Kelp. I have a twin sister in the Gold Winglet."

"I have a friend in the Gold Winglet." Joy replied. Kelp smiled at her.

"So um," Joy continued. "My name is Joy. I am a Rainwing-Nightwing hybrid if you didn't already know or figure that out. And if you are one of those dragons that assumes that Rainwings are lazy and useless, please, let me know and I'll show you just how 'lazy' I can be."

Ah, Qibli's mind went. She's smart. Slyly threatening us before she even knows our names. Nice.

"Okay," Air began. "My name is Air, and I'm also a hybrid, but of Mudwing and Skywing. Seeing as you'll all figure it out, my father is Clay. Um...I like art."

"Hi everyone." Umber went next. "I'm Umber. I'm Clay's brother. That's all I've got."

"Uh, I'm Moonwatcher, but please call me Moon." Moon insisted. "I like scrolls."

"I'm Qibli," he began. "I was one of Thorn's Outclaws before she became queen. My plan is to learn everything as fast as possible and then to get back to help her run the Kingdom of Sand."

"I'm sure she's lost without you," Winter said sarcastically. "I'm Winter."

"Queen Glacier's nephew." Qibli, Joy, and him all said at the same time. Air stifled a laugh.

"Don't mock me." Winter warned.

"I wouldn't dream of it." Qibli promised. Joy faked a gasp.

"Who would dare to mock such an important figure as Her Majesty Queen Glacier's nephew?" she declared. Air couldn't take it, she burst out laughing, ignoring the glare from Winter. I like this dragon, Qibli thought, slightly impressed.

"If you're Head of School," Winter said to Tsunami, "Does that mean you're the dragon to talk to about getting a private cave?"

"Why, yes I am." Tsunami replied. "The answer is no."

"But-" Winter began.

"Screw this, we're going hunting! Come on!" Tsunami announced. Kelp, Umber, and Air smothered their laughs and followed Tsunami out.

"Hey frosty-face?" Joy said to Winter. "I'm watching you."
