CHAPTER NINE, anicent ram inn
(video the next few chapters are based off of is the video shown above if you wanna watch it <3)
What was unusual was the fact that right when they got out of the car, Jack had saw a figure in the window. Bryden thought she saw something from the corner of her eye in the window and as she turned it looked like a figure in one of the upstairs window. "Wait, you said you thought you saw somebody in the window?" Colby questioned, aiming the camera he now held at the group and was now recording for the video.
"Just briefly. Nothing too crazy." Jack admitted.
"Already?!" Colby gasped, surprised that someone had already noticed some sort of supernatural activity going on.
"I thought I saw someone too." Bryden admits, glancing back at the window she thought she saw the figure. "I'm kinda nervous so I could be seeing things though." She added with a sheepish chuckle.
"What, are you scared?" Tommy teased, smirking at her.
"H*** yeah I'm scared." She chuckles, rolling her eyes. "This place looks super creepy."
"I think that's just me being anxious." Jack comments, pointing at the window. "I think there's a plant. There's, like, a plant there." Everyone voices their agreements after noticing the plant in the window. "I think I probably just caught that."
"Yeah, definitely 'a plant'." Sam remarked, putting emphasis on 'a plant' to imply he didn't believe it. He glanced back at Bryden and Colby with amusement, noticing they both seemed to agree with him from just a look.
Bryden rolls her eyes, though she couldn't fully shake the unease crawling up her spine. "Come on, Sammy." She chuckles. "Not everything's gotta be something paranormal, right? I mean, I probably did just see a plant." She said it more for reassurance than belief.
Though even she and the boys definitely knew it was most likely a figure. It could have been just a plant, but they've had enough experiences with the paranormal to know better. They knew there was always a chance that it wasn't just a plant, despite the reassurance they tried to give each other. The air around the old house seemed thick, as if it was holding its breath, and Bryden couldn't shake the feeling that something was just off about the whole place. She glanced back at the window, wondering if
"Can we swear on this channel?" Tommy asked hopefully, suddenly looking nervous.
"Yeah, for sure." Colby chuckled.
Tommy immediately swears. "F*** this s***."
As Bryden laughed with the others, she couldn't help but agree with him though. She was feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension. The inn was exactly as eerie as she'd imagined, the outside alone looked menacing. It was dark, the only source of light coming from the windows. the dim moonlight above them, and the flashlights with them. It was a very creepy sight. Bryden knew tonight would be an interesting night, that was for sure.
****
Bryden couldn't believe she agreed to go to this haunted place. Her boys managed to convince her but the more she was here the more she wanted to go home. And the fact that it was said an incubus and a succubus have been seen here didn't help ease her anxiety. Within five to around ten minutes of being at the Inn, they had gotten so much footage already. At some points they thought there had to be people pranking them outside, but James, the tour guide, went out to check all around the house and confirmed no one there. She and the boys had checked to since it sounded so much like someone was pranking them. Though no one was around.
She and the boys started the investigation, the tour cutting short especially after a candle is knocked down, a little girl's voice saying 'hi' and then a scream followed by repeated knocks decided to investigate further, though each of them felt the unease creeping in. Bryden, trying to suppress the rising anxiety, stayed close to the group as they moved deeper into the inn. The atmosphere was heavy, the air thick with the feeling that something—or someone—was watching them. Tommy had even pulled out his Minecraft sword and so far he held it the whole time. Bryden didn't blame him though, he had been panicking a bit so she understood.
She had instinctively scooted closer to Sam and Colby too whenever she felt the tension getting too much to handle. Every creak of the floorboards under their feet seemed amplified in the silence, and Bryden couldn't shake the feeling that something was lurking just beyond the flashlight's reach. She glanced at the others, noticing how each of them seemed on edge—Tommy clutching his Minecraft sword like a lifeline, Colby still holding the camera, his face tense with both curiosity and fear, and Sam and Jack, who both kept glancing over their shoulders, clearly as uneasy as she was. Jack was even more upset about the fact that Tommy kept messing around, making sure it was known how unstable the part of the house they were in felt like. Jack had been worried if he kept stomping his feet, they would fall through the floor which would be even more dangerous.
Bryden wasn't at all surprised by the many antics that had happened throughout the investigation. She was with four boys after all, and it seemed like things never stayed serious for too long, especially with Tommy and Jack around. But Bryden could feel the weight of the situation bearing down on her. Even though the boys had their way of lightening the mood, she couldn't fully shake the deep sense of unease that crawled under her skin.
Before they all had actually started their investigation, they sage each other for extra protection and made sure to be as prepared as possible, though deep down, Bryden knew there was no real way to prepare for something like this. She stood outside with the boys, Colby still holding the camera, as Sam got the sage. Tommy stood with his arms stretched out and Bryden couldn't help the small snicker that left her mouth at the height difference. Tommy was around 6'0 while Sam stood at 5'8, but Sam's confident demeanor made up for the height difference as he moved around with the sage.
"F***ing t-posing." Tommy remarks. "Fortnite." He then immediately apologizes as he cringes. "I'm sorry, I'm really scared." Chuckles filled the air at his comment then he looks curious. "Did you bring any snacks?"
"Always." Bryden replies in an obvious tone. "I mean, what kind of investigation would this be without some snacks? Plus, it helps calm my nerves." She admitted.
"Is that why you always carry snacks with you?" Jack asks curiously. "Honestly, it's smart." He added with a small smile as Tommy nodded in agreement.
Bryden's eyes widen, her face flushing and not just because of the cold (It was so cold, she was glad she had bundled up enough) they had noticed her habit of always carrying snacks. She had always thought of it as a small, harmless quirk. "That's lowkey embarrassing you guys know that. Though also kinda flattered you know that." She admitted, laughing nervously. "But yeah, snacks are like a comfort blanket for me. I can't go anywhere without them, especially in situations like this."
Colby, still holding the camera, zooms in on her face with an exaggerated, playful grin. "Our girl Bryden here, the snack queen." He teased, and everyone laughed, but the tension in the air was still palpable.
"Shut up." She chuckled, covering the camera with her hand and playfully shoving it away from her face. Colby grinned at her and backed off just enough to keep her in the frame, laughing under his breath.
"Hey, it's all good. We love the snack queen." He shot a wink at her, clearly enjoying the moment, but Bryden could see the underlying nerves in his eyes too.
They were all trying to keep the atmosphere light, but the tension was building with every passing second. Bryden smiled back at him but her smile didn't quite reach her eyes. She could feel her heart racing, the unease creeping back into her chest. The jokes and playful banter helped, but she couldn't ignore the gnawing feeling in her gut, the instinct that something was just off about this place. It was like a whisper in the back of her mind, warning her to be careful, to watch every corner and listen to every sound.
"The height difference is kinda unreal." Colby commented in amusement, turning the camera back to Sam and Tommy.
"That's what I was thinking earlier!" Bryden admits with a giggle as she tried to push away the creeping discomfort. She wasn't sure if the laughter was from nerves or if she genuinely found the situation amusing, but it was the only way she could keep her mind from spiraling into the unsettling thoughts that kept creeping up. "It's like Tommy is towering over Sam like a skycraper."
"Hey, hey, hey, we're gonna edit that out, right?" Sam asks hopefully while Colby panned the camera over to Bryden, who shook her head at the camera dramatically and earning a chuckle from the boy behind the camera. Later on while editing this vireo, they didn't in fact take this part out. "And if anyone is the shortest one here," He glances over at Bryden with a playful smirk. "It's you, shortie."
Bryden gasps dramatically, leaning over to kick him in the shin and earning an pained 'ow' from the blonde. "Hey! I'm not that short! You're not supposed to insult the Snack Queen!" She scolded with a playful grin, trying to deflect the sudden surge of unease creeping back. But as much as she wanted to keep the mood light, the eerie feeling in the air wasn't something she could ignore for long. She could feel the weight of the night bearing down on her, the shadows of the old inn seeming to stretch and twist in the dim light.
"Ow! Okay, okay, I won't mess with the Snack Queen," Sam chuckles, rubbing his shin with a mock pout as the others laughed. "For now." He added, laughing as this time Bryden tried to hit his arm but was held back by Colby grabbing her are before she could make contact. Colby flashed a playful grin, his hand still resting lightly on her arm, holding her back from any further retaliation.
"Easy there, Snack Queen," Colby teases, giving her a light tug to have her stand by his side again. "We don't need you taking down all of us with one swing."
Bryden shot him a quick look, her smile still in place but her thoughts clouded with a deeper unease. She glanced over her shoulder at the Ancient Ram Inn behind her, the darkened windows staring back at her like watchful eyes. It almost felt like the building itself was alive, its creaking wooden bones echoing in the quiet night. A chill ran down her spine, but she quickly shook it off, trying to focus on the present and the joking banter around her. She turned her attention back to the boys when she overheard Tommy thinking out loud since he's the youngest the incubus or succubus would come for him first.
"Yeah, but...You're not the most handsome." Jack speaks up, now standing with his arms stretched out as Sam worked on pouring sage on him. Colby pans the camera over to Tommy, looking at him with a look of disbelief. "And that is-"
"I think you'll find I might be." Tommy argued.
"I don't think in the group you're the most handsome, you know." Jack shrugged as he put his hands in his pockets, glancing at the camera. Sam sent an amused look to the camera along with Bryden.
When the camera went back to him, Tommy shakes his head. "I don't feel good."
"I beg to differ." Bryden chimes in. "I think you're pretty handsome." She confessed, her face heating up more as she realized she said this out loud. Bryden quickly looked away, a blush creeping up her neck as she nervously fidgeted with the edge of her jacket. She hadn't meant to say that out loud, but the words had slipped before she could stop them.
Tommy, clearly caught off guard, blinks and glances at her. Then his face lit up as he wraps an arm around her shoulders to pull her into his side. "Okay, you're officially my favorite person in the group now." Tommy said with a playful grin, his arm still casually around her. His voice was light, but Bryden could sense the hint of something else in it—maybe a touch of surprise, or maybe he was just trying to make her feel better after the awkwardness.
Bryden glanced at the camera with a look mixed of excitement and disbelief at the fact Tommy had his arm around her and called her his favorite person in the group. And behind the camera you could hear Colby's chuckle at her expression. She wasn't sure if he meant it or just joking around like they all were, but still the warmth in her chest didn't fade. There was something about his touch—casual yet comforting—that made her heart beat a little faster. She quickly turned her attention back to the group, trying to hide her flushed face behind a half-hearted smile.
"Ooh, I see somebody is blushing." Colby's teasing voice got her attention and she realized he pointed the camera back at her.
"Shut up, jerk, it's just really cold out." She shoves him away again with a playful shove, though the blush on her cheeks remained. "That's why my face is red."
Colby laughs, holding the camera steady despite her attempts to push him off. "Sure, sure, Bryden. Just cold. Whatever you say."
Then Bryden stood in front of the inn with Sam, Jack, and Tommy as Colby filmed them. "Alright, so all saged up besides me." Sam starts, earning a laugh from Colby and Jack and a chuckle from Bryden. "You guys ready to actually start this investigation?"
"Want me to sage you real quick, Sammy, so you're not the only one left out?" Bryden offered, her voice light and playful, but her eyes still darted to Tommy for a brief moment before returning to Sam. She felt a little more at ease now, the earlier awkwardness slipping away in the group's easy banter.
"Yeah, honestly, that'd be great." Sam handed her the sage, stepping off to the side to have more room so he can outstretched his arms without accidentally hitting anyone.
Bryden grins, holding the sage in one hand as she gently waves it around him to make sure he's covered. "Don't worry, Sammy, I'll make sure you're properly saged." She chuckles along with the others. Once she was done, she handed the sage back to him and smiles, glancing at he camera. "Okay, now we can start investigating."
"Are you telling me we haven't started?" Tommy inquired in disbelief.
"Did we actually tour the whole place by the way?" Jack adds. "Because we kind of-the tour felt like it was maybe was cut short by the ghost that we saw."
"We just took that as a good sign to start." Sam shrugged as Jack mimicked the ghost they heard.
"Come on, Jack." Tommy scolds. "We don't want more."
"My girlfriend explicitly said she'd kill me if I got succubus, she never mentioned that incubus though." Jack teased. Bryden rolled her eyes and chuckled while Colby laughed.
"Heyyy, let's go!"
****
Currently they were trying a spirit box in the most haunted room which was the bishop's room. Though before they all had started their investigation, they saged each other for extra protection and made sure to be as prepared as possible, though deep down, Bryden knew there was no real way to prepare for something like this.
"Is there anything here that wants to talk with us?" Sam's voice broke the silence, filled with a mixture of hope and wariness.
"Please just say hi, I'm really just having not a good time though Bryden did cheer me up a little earlier-" Tommy started, but his words trailed off when a faint voice crackled through the spirit box.
"Was that hello?" Sam asked, blinking in confusion, his eyes darting from the device to his friends.
"It sounded more like oh to me." Bryden admitted, tilting her head as she tried to decipher the subtle sound.
"It was a very faint something." Jack commented, his brow furrowing as he focused on the static-filled box.
"Can you tell us a name or who you might be?" Sam continued, his voice laced with curiosity and a hint of desperation. They waited in silence, the room seemingly holding its breath. Then, another voice echoed through the spirit box, but it was even harder to understand.
Bryden giggled softly, shaking her head at the tension that still hung in the air. Jack and Tommy, sensing a break in the mood, began messing around. Jack launched into a playful rap, with Tommy joining in, each of them trying to ease the unease with humor. "See if you liked that, give us a hi."
Bryden gasps at the clear, 'i do' in response from the spirit box while Sam gasps as well. "Awe, they liked your rapping!" She smiled.
"Oh, I thought it was hello." Sam confessed.
"Everything we picked up so far sounds like part of a song." Jack mused.
"If someone is actually here we want to hear your voice, wanna prove that you're actually here." Sam tried again, but after waiting awhile longer they had no luck. Tommy even took the spirit box from him and aimed it at Colby teasingly.
"You're safe." He joked when nothing came through.
Bryden chuckles and shrugs, her nerves settling as the lighthearted banter continued. "Maybe they're just shy." She suggests with a grin, her voice tinged with amusement. "I wouldn't blame them if they were."
****
Bryden and the boys tried a little longer but haven't had anymore luck in that room. They realized though everything so far was movement or voice and that was with no equipment. Which made them realize the ghosts or entities here probably don't even know what equipment was since they were most likely from the 1500s.
So before leaving they decided one last try and to try it with a REM pod which detects movement using an electromagnetic field. "Please, just touch the light, man, I'm not-please." Tommy pleaded, gaining a small chuckle from Colby and Bryden. "I wanna either know there's no ghosts so I can get racks, get funny again or there is ghosts so I can f***ing be, um, be armed. Stop leaving this on...Stop ghosting us." He finished, chuckling at his own joke as the others laughed with him. He glances at the camera with a grin. "You can subscribe for that one."
"Last chance, we're gonna leave. Just give us one obvious sign." Sam added.
"All you gotta do is just walk up to the equipment or touch it and it will light up." Bryden chimes in, her tone gentle but encouraging. "It's okay to be shy or nervous or anything like that, we're not here to hurt you," She adds, her voice soft and reassuring. "We just want to know you're here, that's all."
"I mean, I'll go first and then you can do it." Jack offered to show them how to do it, but just as he leaned over and before he could actually touch it, the REM pod went off, surprising and startling them all.
"Wait, how close did you get to that?" Colby asked in surprise, pointing at Jack.
"He wasn't close enough for it to go off." Bryden pointed out.
"No, you didn't get hat close." Sam agreed as he looked at a surprised Jack.
"I didn't get that close." Jack confirms. "I'ma go again, but from a different angle now because I've noticed it here-" As he moved closer to the wall at the end of the bed, the REM pod went off again.
"Okay, nobody was even close to that one." Colby commented.
"Nah. Sam, nah..." Tommy nervously muttered, shaking his head as he backed up.
"I just remembered something," Sam admits sheepishly. "The witch specifically only likes respect and if you do-"
Colby gasps in realization. "That's why we got the offerings. The witch will only talk to people if she wants to because if you're being disrespectful or if we're being too stupid she's like 'I don't want to talk'."
"Hey, I don't blame her." Bryden shrugs with a chuckle. "I mean, boys can be stupid a lot of times, which can be annoying. You guys can be annoying too sometimes." She adds, her grin widening as she playfully teases. The REM pod suddenly let out a sharp beep, its lights flashing. Bryden gasped, her eyes widening in surprise. "Ha! See? Even whoever or whatever is with us agrees with me!" She exclaims, pointing at the device. "Thank you, to whoever did that." She added with a smile.
Colby laughs, raising one hand in surrender "Alright, alright, we get it! Boys are annoying sometimes. Message received." Bryden giggled, nudging him and looking at him with amusement as he smiled at her.
"How about a stone, witch? Would you like a little stone? Because I don't want to get dead." Jack offers, gently tossing a small black stone he pulled out of his jacket onto the bed by the other offerings. "I'll put it by your other toys there. There you go, there's your stone."
"The way they burned you was not cool," Tommy starts. "You were probably just enjoying your hobby and those people back there, proper d***. A lot wrong. So witch, I've got respect for you. Sorry they killed you."
"I'm gonna have this back if that's okay." Jack admits, picking his stone back up. "Again, no disrespect, but like, the trade was I placed that up there, you touch. If you wanna touch it now I'll give it back, but as of right now-"
The REM pod going off stopped him from talking but Tommy admits he had accidentally leaned forward with the Minecraft sword that got too close to it. "Okay, I did that."
"You didn't have to do that at that time." Jack scolds playfully. "'Cause now I don't know if I can keep the stone. I really don't agree with him. Look, I'm willing to give you this back, if you want to touch that you can keep it forever because, like, I'm confident enough-" He points at Tommy when the blonde interrupted him, something about protein bars Bryden heard which made her snicker and roll her eyes. "You be quiet. If you would like to press that, that's your business."
They all waited silently for the response, but the REM pod didn't go off. "Fair enough. I'm keeping my stone, thank you so much." Jack smiled, putting the stone back in his pocket.
"Okay, I'll tell you what we do, good cop, bad cop." Tommy suggests. He points at Jack when saying, "Good cop," then at himself with "Bad cop," and then at Sam with "Sam cop. Alright, ready? And-"
The REM pod goes off like crazy just as he points his Minecraft sword at it. "Oh, right when you pointed at it!" Colby noticed.
"Bad! F*** you, witch!" Tommy scolded and Bryden facepalmed. Such a bad thing to say to a witch, a ghost or any entity. Who knows what would happen.
"No!" Jack tried to stop him and sighed heavily.
"You are being annoying." Tommy added.
"You're the one being annoying and now rude." Bryden rolled her eyes, grinning when the REM pod went off again in response, its lights flashing rapidly. Bryden couldn't help but laugh, despite the tension in the air. "Well, looks like someone's not too happy with you, Tommy."
"Again, really want to apologize for him." Jack quickly chimes in. "He just really wants some evidence."
"I really want some evidence 'cause I'm feeling h***a anxious, h***a not good. Come on!" Tommy rambled pleadingly, but once again the REM pod didn't go for him.
"I've had a hex placed on me before, I don't like to mess with them." Jack admitted, gaining surprised looks from Bryden and her boys.
"Okay, wow." Bryden gasped.
"That's not good, man." Colby commented.
"Yeah, my ex girlfriend put a hex on me." Jack confessed.
"That's bizarre." Sam speaks up. "If that was you earlier, you screaming, thank you. If not then we're going to move on to the next room, goodbye."
"Just wanna say you're pretty cool too and definitely didn't deserve what happened to you." Bryden adds softly as she looks at the REM pod, her tone sincere. "I hope you're at peace now and that things are better for you, wherever you are." Her words were kind, and the atmosphere in the room seemed to shift slightly, as if a sense of calm had settled over them.
As she finished speaking, the REM pod flickered to life again, this time gently, with a soft, rhythmic pulse. "Wow, whoever or whatever it is really likes you, Bryden." Sam pointed out.
"Yeah, I think it really does," Jack agreed, looking at the REM pod, his expression half-surprised, half-amused. "Guess you're the one it wants to communicate with."
Bryden grins, feeling a mix of amusement and slight unease. "I mean, I'm not complaining. If it's sending a message, I'll listen."
The REM pod continued its rhythmic pulses, almost like it was nodding in agreement with Bryden's words. The group fell into a quieter, more respectful atmosphere, feeling the connection between them and whatever was on the other side.
Jack looks at Bryden with a raised eyebrow. "You sure you're not secretly a ghost whisperer or something?"
Bryden laughs softly, giving Jack a playful shrug. "Maybe I'm just a little more...Approachable?" She glances at the REM pod again with surprise when it flashes again, its lights dancing like a soft rhythm. "Or maybe it's just that I'm not shouting at it like some people." She gave Tommy a teasing glance, who raises his hands in mock surrender, his face red from the earlier chaos.
"Hey, I'm sorry, I'm just really nervous and I just want to be sure, alright?" Tommy muttered sheepishly.
Bryden chuckles and nudges him lightly with her elbow. "It's okay, Tommy. We all want answers, but being rude definitely isn't the way to get them." She looks back at the REM pod. "Okay, we're actually gonna move on now, really, thank you to whoever or whatever just communicated with us." She pauses, giving a respectful nod toward the pod as if acknowledging the unseen presence. "We're just trying to understand things, no harm intended. I hope whoever or whatever has peace or find peace soon." Bryden's voice was steady, sincere, carrying a sense of calmness that seemed to resonate with the energy in the room. The REM pod's rhythmic flashing softened once again, as though in response to her words.
She smiled and followed her friends out of the room after they gathered their equipment. The group walked quietly down the hallway, the weight of the recent encounter lingering in the air. Bryden felt a strange sense of fulfillment—like she had been a bridge for something that had been longing to be heard. Her words had calmed the atmosphere, and she hoped the entity, ghost - whatever it had been, found or will find peace.
A/N stop most of this video was so chaotic with tommy & jack
