Just Another Servant - Sebastian Michaelis

I hope you like this one, it's super long so strap in. Also, there's a brief moment where there's a tad bit of abuse, so be careful fornthisenwith triggers. I don't know if it's enough to be triggering, but better safe than sorry. I'll put ☆ when I think there might be an issue. Other than that, enjoy!

Narrator POV:

The Phantomhive manor stood tall and gloomy, towering over the young girl and she approached the steps. Earl Phantomhive was in need of a tutor after the last two had retired and the other left because of her new baby.

Both tutors had recommended Miss LN to the young master as she was reputed to be one of the smartest and best tutors in the land.

Although she appeared very young, the (blonde, brunette, etc) was in fact much older, but no one else needed to know that little detail. To them, she was a mere 19 and an excellent teacher.

Her wine red dress billowed in the winter wind, but she felt no cold. She gracefully climbed the steps to the front door where she rang the doorbell, signaling her arrival.

The door was opened by the Earl Phantomhive himself, as he greeted her.

"Good morning, Miss. Who might you be?" He asked rather bored and unimpressed.

"Good morning, Earl Phantomhive, I am to be your tutor, Miss YN LN." She said, offering a slight bow of her head.

"B-but you're so young, how...?" The young boy asked, bewildered.

"I assure you, my age doesn't limit my abilities to provide excellent tutoring, young master," she replied.

And with a nod, the bluenette stepped aside for the girl to come in from the cold.

Upon reaching the study of the young Phantomhive, YN laid out her plan for successful tutoring and her methods of teaching.

Satisfied with her promises, the Earl inquired about dates and times, as well as her paycheck.

"I can come in to tutor you whenever and wherever it is you desire. As for payment, I have no need. I do not charge to spread knowledge, I believe that all people should have access to whatever it is they wish to learn," she said, leaning back slightly in the chair across from Lord Phantomhive.

"I can't not pay you for your services, there must be something I can do as a form of payment," he insisted.

"Well, when some of my clients insist on payment, I will always tell them that anything that not part of a tutor's roll is my payment. For example, my last client had me stay for tea after every lesson, or another often repayed me with fresh baked goods from his bakery. I must be clear, however, payment is 100% unnecessary." She stated.

The young boy looked at her quizically; how could someone not require money? Surely she needed it to keep her home and pay for her food and clothes, so why did she insist that she needed it not?

"Very well, although I would pay you a fair amount of money for your services, if you insist on alternative forms of payment, then I suppose you can always stay for tea and if you are here for dinner, than that as well," he offered.

"That is very kind of you, young master. Thank you." She said, nodding her head in gratitude.

And with that, her lessons began. She went over his academics, such as sciences and maths. She provided excellent language arts materials and aided him with his musical skills in both violin and piano.

Ciel soon learned that there was nary a subject she was incapable of teaching. From art and painting, to fencing, to the most advanced reaches of science and maths. She spoke many languages with great ease and was always capable of relaying the information in a way that was easy to grasp, yet not demeaning or condescending.

Miss LN was even successful in persuading the young Earl to learn a few basic social dances, as it was a skill men of his status and social standing were expected to posses.

They were in the ballroom as the tutor began explaining the waltz to him in words; going through the steps and instructions verbally.

Just as she was about to demonstrate with an invisible partner, a tall, ravette gentleman entered the room, a tray of tea and biscuits in his hand.

"Young master,  I have brought you your afternoon tea. My apologies for interupting your lesson." He said, placing a gloved hand to his chest.

Although she recognized him, YN said nothing and showed no reaction other than a polite smile to the butler as Ciel thanked him.

"Sebastian?" He asked, just before the butler could leave the room.

"Yes, master?" The man said, turning to look back at the Earl and the slightly familiar girl beside him (although he had no idea how he knew her or why she had a familiar air to her).

"Why don't you help Miss LN demonstrate this dance, if that's alright with you?" Ciel asked, the last of his sentence directed towards the girl.

She nodded and replied with a simple "of course".

The butler nodded as well and in a few long strides, was in front of the girl, hand outstretched.

For every move either of the two servants made, YN explained the gestures and the importance, should the young master require clarification.

"Allow me to introduce myself," the ravenette began. "I am Sebastian Michaelis, butler of the Phantomhives. May I have this dance?"

YN placed her black-gloved hand in his white one. "You may. My name is YN LN, a pleasure to meet you Mister Michaelis," she said with a curtsey.

"The pleasure is all mine," he said, as fuschia eyes met EC ones.

With introductions out of the way, the two demonstrated the steps of the basic waltz, moving in time to a non-existent song.

Sebastian's hands came to rest gently, but firmly on her body; one on her waist and the other in her hand. Only in his mind did he acknowledged how perfectly her hand fit in his, as of it were meant to be there, as if this were as natural as flowers blooming or the sun rising.

She, in turn, placed her hand atop his shoulder, all the while hiding the fluttering feeling in her stomach. She kept a smile on her lips and a cool expression on her features, looking to anyone else as graceful as a statue; absolutely perfect.

They moved with perfect grace and synchronization, as if they had danced this dance a thousand times together.

They glided effortlessly across the floor, never faltering for a moment as they explained to the young Phantomhive how each move was to be performed. Each party, however, was painfully aware of how perfectly they worked together. While Sebastian simply felt a familiarity he couldn't place, YN was aware of a far more painful truth.

Their beautiful dance came to an end all too soon as Ciel took Sebastian's place as YN's partner.

He attempted to copy each of Sebastian's movements with precision and accuracy, until his tutor soon realised that he could not, in fact, dance at all.

She slowed down their waltz, to ensure Ciel's movements were flawless, and in time, they improved greatly.

Sebastian stood off to the side, watching this gorgeous girl teach Ciel to dance as gracefully as she did herself. He was shocked at his own sentiments, for demons were not supposed to find humans attractive, nor should they take pleasure in the company of them. Yet, he could not deny her beauty, or how he so enjoyed being with her.

Even though he had just met her, he felt as though, somehow, he had known her for his entire life, as impossible as that was.

He quickly snapped out of his trance and returned to his regular duties, while YN danced around the room with young master Ciel.

Sebastian couldn't help but feel a small stab of jealousy, then guilt, then pain. How was it this girl had managed to stir so many emotions in him in such a brief period of time?

****
It wasn't until later that evening that YN had finished tutoring Ciel for the day. She had managed to improve his waltz skills significantly and even had time to go over other lessons.

And in between those lessons, she had found time to help Finny in the greenhouse, stop Mey Rin from falling of a ladder as she attempted to clean windows and even assist Baldo with a little kitchen mishap.

Unbeknownst to her, her efforts did not go unnoticed.

A certain devilishly handsome butler had taken note of how efficient YN was at balancing her duties as tutor, alongside finding time to help the other servants of the household.

He was impressed with her, and found her rather charming.

And when she found herself in his presence, YN had also taken note of how impeccable Sebastian's abilities were. He was definitely not your average butler.

As it was getting on in the hours of the day, Ciel invited Miss LN to stay for dinner before she was to return home.

As she didn't want to feel as though she was an extra burden upon the staff, she took it upon herself to help prepare dinner.

Try as he did, Ciel couldn't dissuade her from helping out, so he let her continue.

As soon as we entered the kitchen, she noticed just how messy the situation really was. Sebastian had been called away by the young master, leaving Baldo and Mey Rin alone.

It was a good thing she entered the room when she did, otherwise, the slightly blind maid would've toppled over her chair, attempting to reach the China from the cupboard.

Catching the red head in one arm and the plates in the other, YN avoided a potentially disastrous situation, only to be faced with the challenge of Baldo wielding a flamethrower as a cooking device.

She managed to divert his attention to the cutting up of various vegetables as she herself cooked the meat, thus avoiding a dinner of charcoal.

Her back was turned when Sebastian returned to the Kitchen, expecting to find several smashed plates and a singed room from a kitchen fire. He was pleasantly surprised to find that YN had taken care of the two clumsy staff members, and had prepared an excellent dish, smelling very appetizing and looking rather grandiose.

A small smile played on his lips as he took in the scene before him. Taking off his tailcoat, he then rolled up his sleeves and stood beside the (blonde, brunette, etc).

"Do you require any assistance in preparing this meal?" He asked.

YN smiled gently as she glanced at him. "It would be a tremendous help if you could help me whip up a dessert for tonight. I've been rather preoccupied with the main course that it completely slipped my mind," she replied, returning her gaze to the platter in front of her.

Without another word, Sebastian went to work making a dessert that would pair nicely with the main course YN had provided.

Her stomach still in knots about the truth she longed to forget about the extraordinary butler, YN still found herself stealing glances at his slim figure as he worked; admiring everything about him, from his hair, lips, and the rest of his body to the way he concentrated intensely on the task before him. And he never failed to show off his talents, always moving quickly and without faltering.

He in turn admired her from afar, watching her work.

Together, they finished the plates of dinner and brought them out to the table where Ciel sat patiently.

The meal was quiet, with few words other than praise for the amazing dishes.

After dinner was over and the dishes were clean, YN packed up her briefcase of tutoring materials and pulled her coat over her shoulders.

As her hand grasped the cool metal of the door handle, another gloved hand rested upon hers, stopping her from stepping foot outside.

"The weather is quite atrocious, there is no way anyone is traveling in a blizzard such as this one," Sebastian said, his hand lingering on hers for a touch too long.

One glance out the window and she knew it was true.

In the last few hours, the snow had completely covered everything, and was still coming down hard. She could barely see 5 meters in front of her nose, looking though the window.

Ciel appeared in the doorway, cane in hand. "You're welcome to stay in one of our guest rooms for the night, seeing as you won't be leaving for the time being."

YN nodded grimly and thanked the young master for his charity.

Sebastian then led her up the main stairs and down a long corridor to one of the guest rooms. He swung open the door and stepped aside, allowing YN to enter the room.

The room was fairly large (certainly larger than what the young girl was accustomed to) and rather open. There was a tall window that over looked the front garden and fountain, and it's white drapes fluttered and swished gently as the pair walked into the room. Sunlight streamed in, illuminating the mahogany flooring and giving the room a peaceful feeling.

YN placed her only bag on the small side table beside the queen bed, and turned around to thank Sebastian for helping her with the dance lesson, only to find him standing directly behind her.

"O-oh, Sebastian," she stuttered after accidentally bumping into his chest. "Thank you for helping me teach the young master, I hadn't had a good opportunity to say so earlier."

Sebastian, unusually flustered and nervous, bowed his head and placed his hand on his chest. "Your thanks are unecessery, Miss LN. If I couldn't do that much for you, what kind of butler would I be?"

It was then, as YN lifted her gaze to his eyes, that the two became completely and utterly captivated by the other. Neither made a move to break the eye contact, nor to back away. The two stood perfectly still, as if there was nothing else in the world.

Slowly, and very much out of his usual character, Sebastian raised a hand to her ST cheek that was rosy and pink due to her blush.

Momentarily, YN forgot all about the pain she felt, and simply enjoyed what was happening. It had been quite some time since she had last allowed herself to be this close and intimate with another person.

A soft smile graced her lips and her eyes shut as she leaned into his touch, savouring the feeling. Despite her flushed cheeks and her timidness, she felt oddly at home in his embrace.

Sebastian's eyes took in the beautiful girl before him; admiring her soft hair that framed her face, her serene expression and that stunning smile on her ruby red lips.

He was no longer nervous or embarrassed. Everything in that moment felt right, as if that is where the two of them belonged. He didn't understand how she felt so right, for he was a demon and shouldn't be capable of such sentiment.

But as she had forgotten her pain, he too put aside his doubts and concerns and simply enjoyed holding her, for what reason he had even touched her face in the first place, even he did not know for sure.

He then rested his forehead on hers, allowing the tips of their noses to touch also. It was then that YN wrapped her arms around his neck, fully relishing in the moment, not caring that it would soon end and she would be reminded of the past and all of the pain brought.

His gentle whisper broke the tranquil silence, but his voice was deep and rich, smooth and warm like melted chocolate.

"You're magnificent, YN," he stated. "How can any one person be so perfect and graceful at all times?" He said, his hand on her cheek lightly brushing hair from her face and fucking and behind her ear.

"You flatter me, Sebastian," she replied in a quite tone. "I'm just another girl, another servant of the Phantomhive estate, I'm nothing special at all."

Before he could say another word, a large crash was heard from the library, and the two broke apart and rushed to the source of the noise.

They opened the doors to find Mey Rin sitting on the floor, surrounded by many fallen books and their bookcase, fallen over, missing the maid by a mere inch.

The girl was in hysterics, frightened and apologizing profusely. YN rushed to her side to comfort her from her fright, and make sure she was okay.

"What in the hell has happened here?" Came a tired and stern voice, belonging to none other than the Earl himself.

Stuttering, with tears still down her cheeks, Mey Rin explained how she had been simply dusting of the book cases and polishing the silver handles on their doors, not sure how she could've even toppled over such a large and massive piece of furniture.

YN managed to calm the red headed maid, who's breathing was much steadier, and lift her from the pile of books.

"YN, will you please take Mey Rin to the parlour and bring her some tea, Sebastian and I will join you shortly," the young master ordered.

Nodding, the two girls exited the library and went off to find some tea.

While YN was busy with Mey Rin, Sebastian stood with the 12 year-old boy, looking at the large mess in front of them.

Without a word, Sebastian inspected the bookcase, and within a matter of seconds he had found the cause of the disaster.

"My Lord, both mice and termites have chewed through the framework of the bookcase, so much so that the slightest touch would send the whole thing crashing down," Sebastian stated, rising from his crouched position.

"What a nuisance. Are you able to eradicate them or should I call for an exterminator?" Ciel said, a bored and disdainful look on his young features.

"If I couldn't do that much for my young master, what kind of butler would I be?"

And with that Ciel went to join the two women in the parlour whilst Sebastian began tending to this long and arduous task.

Time skip cause this is already 3000+ words

After returning from the parlour, where Mey Rin was comforted by the fact that it was not her fault, YN returned to her room for the night, after Sebastian insisted he needed no assistance. Little did she know he was already done with the extermination and clean up, but that's another story.

Closing the door, she sat on the foot of her bed with a sigh. The pain had begun to settle in and she could not pretend it wasn't there any longer.

A young girl, only 10 years old, ran about a green field barefoot, her satin white dress fluttering around her as she moved.

Her laughter filled the summer air, and reached the ears of a young boy, clad in black, who was chasing her around.

He finally managed to catch her and the two fell to the grass, laughing and giggling away. They lied there, looking up at the clouds and holding hands, not a care in the world.

Her EC eyes looked at the world with such wonder and amazement. His brown eyes looked at her with the same emotions, glinting with a hint of fuschia in the sunlight.

***

The two are older, 16, and sitting side by side in the same field, her HL HC hair flowing gently in the autumn breeze, as she laid her head on her lover's shoulder. His strong arm was wrapped around her waist, pulling her into his side.

They sat, looking out at the changing leaves and the serene environment around them, just talking and enjoying each others presence.

She turned to look up at him with a loving look, and he met her gaze. He kissed her sweetly and the two broke away, smiling.

***

YN hadn't noticed that she was crying until the salty tears hit her gloves and seeped through the satin fabric.

She wiped them away from her cheeks and began to undress, getting ready for bed, all the while having one thought in her mind. 'He was my best friend and beloved and I couldn't save him...'

After changing into the nightgown she was provided (it was a familiar, flowing satin white, which only added to her emotional discomfort), she sat on the plush mattress of the bed, not bothering to move the duvet.

She had her knees tucked up to her chest, her arms wrapped around them as she rested her chin on her knees. Her eyes stared blankly at the other side of the room as she allowed her pain to manifest itself as her tears, not even bothering to wipe them away.

It was some time before her tears stopped completely, and tired, she laid back, HC hair sprawled out around her head like a halo.

As soon as her head hit the pillow, she succumbed to the welcoming arms of slumber.

****

Across the manor and down in the basement laid Sebastian on his own bed, his butler uniform replaced by black, plain nightclothes.

He too sat in his bed contemplating the days events. That girl was so familiar, he was sure he knew her from somewhere, but he never forgets a face, and certainly not a face as lovely and charming as hers.

How did she make him feel this way? He was a demon, he was not supposed to feel these sentiments, these emotions! How was it that after a single dance, after one stupid, simple, perfect, dreamy dance, that he felt so strongly for her?

Sebastian ran his pale hands through his long, black hair, tugging on strands in an attempt to understand.

He tried to forget how she made him feel, how he found himself flustered and nervous in her presence, how he could only smile when he thought about her.

But all he could think about was YN. Her HL HC hair, her kind EC eyes that shone in the sunlight. How her smile made his stomach flutter, and how her voice was so melodic and pleasant.

He could still feel her hands around his neck and the touch of her cheek on his hand. He still felt that warm, burning sensation of her forehead on his, from earlier.

Sebastian sat on the foot of his bed, looking at his hands, remembering how it felt to hold hers.

All of these emotions, these feelings; they made him feel as though he had a heart!

Frustrated with his emotions, Sebastian threw himself onto the bed, and let himself fall asleep.

****
For the next 2 days, it snowed, without showing any signs of letting up at all.

Ciel Phantomhive extended his offer for the young girl to stay in the guest room until she was able to go home and she gladly accepted his offer.

Her days were routine, tutoring and helping out where she could. Sebastian had mostly avoided her in an attempt to make his emotions disappear.

While she partially though he just wanted nothing to do with her, YN welcomed the loneliness, as she wasn't particularly inclined to revisit that pain again.

It wasn't till the third day when the roads were cleared and YN was able to return home.

She had her bag and her coat, and again she stood with her hand reaching for the door when the doorbell rang.

Swinging it open, she was startled to find her friend, Jacobe, standing there. His cheeks were flushed and he was out of breath.

It was then that Ciel and Sebastian came to see who was calling.

"Who are you and why are you here?" Ciel asked.

"My name is *pant* Jacobe, I'm here to *breath* tell YN that, *sigh* her house, your house, YN, it's been burned to the ground, there's nothing left of it,"

There was a large thud as YN dropped her bag to the floor, mouth agape.

She nodded and quietly thanked Jacobe for coming to tell her, and he offered her a sympathetic look before running off again.

Sebastian gently closed the door, YN still staring at the space where her friend had just been moments prior.

A hand on her arm carefully lead her to the parlour where she sat down in the chair, a blank expression on her face.

Over tea, Ciel took pity on the tutor, knowing what it was like not having a house due to a fire.

"You are welcome to stay here for as long as you like, and we can consider it your payment for your services as tutor, if that's alright with you," he proposed.

YN thanked the young Lord profusely and within the next few days, she had found herself the owner of several new outfits, upon Ciels demand.

Not too long after, a young blonde girl arrived at the manor, and bouncy and chipper, squealing in excitement.

Earl Phantomhive's betrothed, Elizabeth had arrived and was oh so excited to meet the new tutor.

Lizzy then proposed a ball to be had, a nice dance to make everyone feel better.

Once music had been queued, the dancing had begun with Lizzy and Ciel, who did phenomenally well.

YN stood off to the side watching the pair dance, with a glass of water in one hand. She was absent minded as her eyes glazed over, no longer focused. She was only pulled from her trance when Lizzy came up to her and waved a hand in her face.

"Oh! Miss Elizabeth, my apologies, what can I help you with?" The older girl asked sweetly.

"If I found you a partner, would be please dance for Ciel and I? Pretty please?" The young girl pleaded, eyes big and looking up at the (blonde, brunette, etc).

Unable to deny her request, YN nodded with a kind smile. "Of course, Miss Elizabeth, anything for you,"

And with that, the young blonde bounded off to pick one of 4 men for YN to dance with.

Upon coming to the conclusion that Tanaka was too small and old to keep up (Elizabeth's words), Baldo was incapable of dancing at all and Finny couldn't stop tripping over his two left feet, it left her with one option.

Elizabeth approached the butler with a smile on her face and asked him if he would please dance for her and Ciel.

Sebastian agreed to the whims of the young girl and he was then tugged into the middle of the floor by her small hand.

Before he could even blink, YN was pushed into his arms, her cheeks pink and a bit of a stutter in her voice as she apologized.

Suppressing his own butterflies, Sebastian bowed his head and extended his hand to her with a "May I have this dance?", to which she replied with a curtsey, placing her hand in his.

"Certainly," she said with a smile.

And just like that, his hand was on her waist, gentle but firm, while she in turn placed her hand on his shoulder, lightly.

He took her black-gloved hand in his white one, their fingers intertwining. The two of them fit together like a puzzle piece; absolutely perfect for each other.

He lead her across the floor, but this time with more passion and feeling in his movements, and YN emulated his emotion.

Gliding to the music, the two gazed deeply into each other's eyes, totally infatuated. To them, there was nothing else in the world.

Both had love-struck smiles, neither party thinking about the past or their emotions.

It was quite apparent to Ciel and Lizzy just how in love the two were, even if they would never admit to it out loud.

They continued until the music came to an end, where Sebastian lifted YN's hand to his lips and placed a lingering kiss, earning a deep blush from the girl.

They separated, but still keeping light eye contact.

Lizzy squealed and clapped her hands, praising their movements and how well they dance together. Even Ciel had appraisal for the two.

"YN," Lizzy exclaimed, "You dance like an angel!"

The older girl blushed and shook her head, "Your words are too nice, Lady Elizabeth, I'm just a servant, I'm nothing special,"

There were more dances during the evening, although none as notable as the first, and everyone in the household was enjoying themselves.

After a lot of dancing and chatting and good food, everyone retired for the night.

YN and Sebastian, who had been not-so-casually stealing glances at one another, were the only ones left cleaning up the room.

When it was all tidied up,  Sebastian walked the girl to her room. As she walked silently, gracefully in front of him, he thought to himself, asked whoever was out there listening, how and why he loves her so much. Why she felt so familiar, like coming home. He asked how she was able to make him feel such emotions.

"Maybe it's because of our history...." YN mused bluntly in reply to the thought Sebastian had had.

"What did you just say?" Sebastian asked, shocked and taken aback.

The girl turned around, her ruby red dress swishing gently around her legs. "Pardon?" She asked, not understanding.

"You just said maybe it has something to do with our history. But I hadn't said anything. Not out loud. So how could you respond to my thoughts, and what did you mean by our history?" Sebastian asked, slightly stern.

The girl went red, for she thought she had only said that in her head.

She avoided the question of how, choosing instead to clarify what she meant.

"Its a long story," she started quietly, averting her gaze to the floor as she swallowed hard.

The two 19 year olds were lazily strolling hand in hand outside in the white field, the snow falling gently and landing in their hair as they laughed together.

The ravenette boy looked lovingly at the girl, who was laughing, the sunlight illuminated her EC eyes and made the snowflakes in her hair sparkle and glisten.

He detangled their fingers to adjust his mittens and scarf and she continued walking and talking.

She only walked a moment when she realized her boyfriend was not beside her. She turned only to gasp and begin crying as he has stopped in the snow to pull a box from his pocket and get down on one knee.

"YN," the boy said as he looked up to her smiling face and crying eyes, "I can't express how much you mean to me, how much I love you. We've been best friends since we were children and I know that I never want to leave your side. Will you do me the honour of being my wife?"

She ran back to the boy and threw her arms around him, bringing them both to the ground, laughing.

"Absolutely, I love you so much, Sebastian Michaelis..." She whispered in his ear as she slipped the cool silver band around her finger.

Standing and brushing the snow from their clothes, the couple embraced, their lips meeting and dancing in perfect time with each other.

They continued walking hand in hand until they reached the fork in the road. The pair then separated, each taking their own paths home, to tell the good news to their parents.

Her parents were overjoyed to hear the news, and they set out to the Michaelis' home, bringing a cake along to celebrate.

☆ Sebastian's father, however, was not so delighted. Drunk and angry, he grew enraged and blamed his wife for raising their son to love and marry 'some whore'. He then got physical her, and began beating her for no reason other than drunken rage.

Not wanting his mother to be injured, Sebastian attempted to step in, only to be thrown against the wall, knocked unconscious.

His mother was tossed about the living room and as she tried to back up, his father tripped her, causing her to fall into the fireplace, her skirt catching fire quickly, which then spread to the wooden floors and walls.

It didn't take long for the whole room to be engulfed in flames.

His father, in his drunken stupor, passed out, to suffocate in the smoke, as well as the ravenette boy, unaware of the situation.

Meanwhile, YN and her parents were rounding the corner, only to find a horrific scene, the sky painted red and orange with the flames.

The cake dropped to the floor, and her footsteps pounded against the crunchy snow as she sprinted into the house to try and find her lover.

His body lay there, burning and she screamed and pulled him by his ankles out the door into the snow. She tried desperately to revive him, but to no avail, as he was already gone.

***

YNs explanation was cut short by the ringing of bells, signalling Ciels need for Sebastian.

She hurried to explain away how it was that she heard his thoughts, pressing that she was infact, just a servant girl.

"I'm nothing special, I promise, perhaps it was just a coincidence, how could anyone read a demon's thoughts..."

"How did you know I'm a demon?" Sebastian pressed, his face stern and scowling.

"I-it was just an expression, I swear, I don't know what you're talking about..." She stuttered.

"Or are you some other creature of the underworld? An inncubi or a succubus, a witch or maybe.... no, that's impossible they're almost all gone..." Sebastian mused.

Brushing her hair from her face, she asked what he was implying.

"Angels," he stated, shuddering. "I could never tolerate an angel, they are the worst creatures, always thinking they are above everyone else, so pretentious and horrid. Besides, I could never be comfortable in an angelic presence, whether I knew about them or not."

A look of disgust crossed his features, but he was pulled away when the bell rang once more.

Without another word, Sebastian disappeared, leaving YN, rather upset and nervous.

Seeing as she had no more duties to attend to, YN decided to join the other 4 staff members who were out skating around in the frozen pond behind the mansion.

****

As she approached the ice, Finny waved with a smile on his face, calling out to her.

She smiled and sat down to put on her iceskates, before she stood and pushed onto the ice, gliding around effortlessly.

The 5 of them laughed and skated around, just having fun, forgetting any troubles they had at all.

Sebastian could see them out of the window and he watched the (blonde, brunette, etc)  beauty making patterns in the ice. He felt slightly remorseful, for being so stern and angered with her earlier.

Not 10 minutes later, his hand grabbed hers and spun her around on the ice, graceful as ever.

Sebastian led YN to the side of the pond, away from prying eyes and out of earshot.

He said nothing, but placed his hand in hers and began to lead her in a dance on ice. They were slow, gliding together, in no rush. Skating backwards, she rested her head on his sturdy chest, enjoying the feeling of his arms around her.

They came to a stop, where he simply looked down at her face and tilted her head up.

Their eyes closed gently as he kissed her softly, pouring all of these new emotions into the embrace.

But it burned. It stung. It was heated, not with passion or lust but with a fiery sensation that hurt like hell.

They pulled away, touching their lips with their hands. She knew it was because they were angel and demon, but he as left utterly confused.

It was the pain of hell for a slice of heaven.

Not wanting to upset her again, Sebastian chose to ignore the pain. Instead he spoke softly to her.

"I apologize for being so short with you. Finish your story, please," he asked gently, more curious than angered now.

YN nodded, holding his hand as she began again.

Years later, that very same girl held the hand of another boy, as they glided gently across the ice. She remembered Sebastian from all those years ago, who died in that fire, only to find his reincarnation. She had to hide the fact that she knew him, for he would never understand.

Instead, she continued to fall hopelessly in love with him all over again. And while he felt as though he had known her his whole life, he knew he had only met her 4 years ago, when they began dating at 15.

Now, he knew in his heart that he loved her so, and wanted to stay with her forever.

On one knee he proposed, asking if to marry him and spend the rest of their lives together.

She felt a sad pang in her heart, for she had seen this senario before, long ago. But she never let on. She kissed him deeply and he slid the ring on her finger.

It was then that the ice cracked beneath them.

He pushed her aside, out of the way of the falling ice. She screamed as he plummeted into the deep, feeding waters.

She didn't hesitate to follow, diving in right behind him. She found him stuck and ensnared by weeds at the bottom of the pond and she pulled with all of her might, trying to use the blades of her skates to cut him lose, but nothing worked.

He mouthed an I love you before he pushed her up and away as his own eyes closed.

She resurfaced and gasped, but she went right back down, ignoring the bone chilling temperatures.

But when she reached the bottom, there was no trace of him.

When she pulled her shivering body from the water and sat there in the snow bank, tears freezing on her face as she cried, his name the only thing on her lips.

Sebastian.....

For the 2nd time, YNs explanation was cut short by the other staff members begging them to come back inside for hot cocoa and cookies.

The two agreed and followed a joyous Mey Rin and Finny, as well as a boasting Baldo (because he assured everyone his cookies were to die for) and a chuckling Tanaka.

For the remainder of that evening, YN could never find another opportunity to finish her story. She only had time to mouth a quick sorry to Sebastian before they retired for the evening.

Something was amiss in the air that morning, everything felt off. Everyone could feel it, they could all sense that there was something wrong, but no one knew why.

The morning was calm and usual, nothing out of the ordinary. Things we cleaned, the greenhouse was tended to, the food as cooked and there was tutoring done.

Even lunch was normal.

It wasn't until just before dinner time when things went awry.

Sebastian, Mey Rin and Baldo were in the kitchen, Finny was out shoveling snow and Tanaka was in some off room drinking hot water. And YN was outside, making sure Pluto was doing alright in the winter weather.

It happened faster than they could blink. An enemy of the underworld, someone who was very unhappy with Earl Phantomhive had been lingering outside the house, waiting for an opportune moment to strike.

The projectile came flying through the window, sending glass shards everywhere before it erupted into flames. A barrage of smaller flaming projectiles also came through the window, and Sebastian came flying through the doors to sheild his master, even though he was sure to die trying.

The room was completely engulfed in fire, with no possible exits.

Another large projectile of fire was coming right towards the two boys and nearly hit them when a bright light flashed in front of them.

There was no feeling of flames or heat at all, but instead, a safe, protecting aura.

Standing above them was YN, her face contorted in pain as she shielded the demon and the Earl from the fire.

Wrapped around them was a pair of soft, iridescent wings. Pure and soft, they protected anything inside.

With all of her power, YN quenched the flames and smote the attacker. When the threat was neutralized, she collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain.

She cried so hard her screams were silent as her wings, burnt to a crisp, were splayed on the floor.

Aghast, Ciel cowered away from the horrific scene.

Sebastian stood there in silence. The girl he fell in love with was an angel of all things. He swore to her that he hated them, it was his nature to kill angels, should he find them, yet here he was, hesitating to hurt her at all.

She sobbed, begging Sebastian to end her suffering, to kill her once and for all.

She produced a silver blade from her dress, the only thing capable of killing an angel.

"Please, Sebastian," she said, her voice hoarse, "Please take my pain away,"

He took the blade from her, but did not use it, for he was conflicted. On one hand, she was an angel, his enemy. But on the other, he loved her, loved her with everything he had. He wanted to help her.

"Please Sebastian!" She cried out, she eyes pleading with him, full of tears and pain deeper than anyone could imagine. "Smite me, please!"

He then knew what he had to do. He reached out to her forehead and a golden light shone out her eyes as her body went limp.

This was the 3rd incarnation of the boy she loved, the 2nd time she'd see him after death and she was determined not to lose him again.

When he asked her out all those years ago, and then to marry him just the other day, she knew that no matter how many times they reincarnated, they would always be together, but she never knew why she was the only one of them who could remember.

She showed up at his house before he did, ready to surprise him so they could tell his parents.

His mother greeted her and offered her tea and biscuits while she waited.

The biscuits were on the table, but his mother had gone into the kitchen to prepare the tea.

So much happened in such a brief span of time.

As the front door opened to reveal her fiancé, his father came out of the room across from where she sat, tool box in hand as he had been fixing some things around the house.

He never liked her at all, and when he saw the ring on her finger, he became enraged. He threw his hammer straight at her face.

It hit the wall not a centimeter from her head.

The ravenette boy ran to her side and the sound sent his mother running from the kitchen, tea sloshing out of the cup.

His father raised his hand and threw his pocket knife, aiming for her heart.

Things moved so slowly.

Her lover jumped in front of her, and the knife sank into his chest just as his mother's foot hit the floor of the parlour.

Smash. The tea cup on the floor.

Thump. The sound of the distraught father who only now realised what he had done, falling to his knees.

Crack. The sound of 4 hearts shattering.

The blood soaked through his crisp white shirt, staining his clothes.

He looked up at her crying EC eyes and caressed her cheek softly as he kissed her forehead.

"I love you, please don't go, not again....." She whispered.

☆ His eyes shut and without thinking, she pulled the knife from his heart and thrust it into her own. She lied down next to him and held his hand as the warmth faded from both of their bodies.

"You... Y-you killed her... an angel..." Ciel stuttered, rising to come to her side.

Sebastian said nothing as he knelt by her body. He was gone in a flash but then soon returned, a great many rolls of bandages in his hands.

He went to work, applying generous amounts of burn ointment and wrapping her wings gently in bandages, without bending or folding her wings.

When he was finished, he lifted her body into his arms and silently brought her to her room.

Ciel, who had said nothing, then asked why the dead needed bandages and a room to lie in.

"The dead don't need those things, but the living do. Shes only sleeping, don't worry," Sebastian said, not meeting Ciel's gaze.

****
It took days for her to come to.

And everyday up until then, Sebastian was there, brushing her hair, changing her dressings, gently trying to drip water down her throat.

Ciel didn't even mind. He let Sebastian care for her, for he saw how much he loved her.

When she finally awoke, Sebastian was right at her side, as her eyes fluttered open and adjusted to the sunlight.

He didn't say anything as he offered her water for her throat, which was incredibly hoarse, and he helped her remove the bandages to reveal a new, thick coat of feathers.

She stood, wobbly, and extended her wings completely, letting them take up a good portion of the room. They simmered in the light as she stretched and folded them up against her back.

"You didn't smite me, why?" She asked gently as she sat down and patted the bed next to her.

Sebastian sat, placing his hand on top of hers.

"Because," he said, just as softly, "there's something about you that makes me feel, good. I didn't kill you because I couldn't, because I love you."

"You love me, an angel? There's something I never expected to hear," she giggled and looked at his fuschia eyes, the eyes she once knew to be a warm brown. "I love you too, Sebastian. I never stopped loving you, through all of our incarnations."

He kissed her again, and at first it burned and hurt, but the longer they held it, the better it felt. The pain melted away and it was the most loving embrace they shared.

When they parted, Sebastian's eyes glowed a soft gold and he looked at her in new light.

"I remember," he whispered, "I remembered everything."

Sebastian reached into his pocket and from it he pulled the very same ring he used to propose to her each time. It always stayed with him, no matter how many times he died.

"We're immortal now, YN, there's no more dying and reincarnating. We can finally make this right."

And with that he got down on one knee in front of the angel wearing her satin white dress, shimmering wings extended behind her.

He didn't even say the words before she was also on her knees, hugging him and promising him that they could be together forever.

"You know," he said when they pulled away, "You're not just another servant."
