Mackenzie's Life: Flashback into the Sorting Hat
Ron's POV
Flashback
"Well," the silver haired girl spoke. "My name is Mackenzie." I held in a laugh because her name was exactly the same name my favorite professor's daughter has.
This time, one of the transferee, Henry Malfoy, laughed from the Slytherin table. "So? What makes you so special with your petty name and dramatic entrance?"
The girl lowered her head and looked up in a shy manner. "Does anyone know Professor Cedric Blue?" She looked around with no emotion as all the wizards except the new ones nodded. "Also known as Blueblood?"
Professor McGonagall looked at her with curiosity in her face. "Why do you ask, Mackenzie? He's one of our muggle teachers. I'm afraid you won't be seeing him this year. He hasn't reported back if he was joining us this year."
She looked around at us who looked like we were expecting some kind of news. "Nothing, just curious."
Her statement was followed by shouts coming from all of us wizards.
Everyone suddenly shouted why Professor Blue wasn't teaching this year.
All of us were shouting at the top of our lungs not even noticing Mackenzie looking around with a smug look on her face. "SHUT IT! All of you. Let us get the sorting done. I'm sorry to raise his name. Hermione was just holding a book that caught my eye."
I looked at Harry in a laughing manner. "Who the bloody hell would actually find interest in her calculus book. All that's written there are a bunch of numbers."
Hermione gave me a playful hit to my shoulder. "It's not just a bunch of numbers."
Mackenzie looked over to the sorting hat who was waiting. Her footsteps were carefully eyed as she reached the hat.
"Sit here, Mackenzie." Professor McGonagall gestured towards the stool.
Mackenzie carefully sat on the stool as the hat was placed on her head and he started talking.
"Mhmm, a strong willed lady...oh dear. You would do perfectly in Hufflepuff, but your intelligence surpasses any normal wizard. The perfect smart Ravenclaw." Mackenzie squeezed her eyes shut trembling greatly. "You have to let me in..." Mackenzie let out a loud sigh and the hat screamed. "Dear googly moogly my eyes! I cannot unsee what I have seen. A perfect Slytherin she is too!"
Mackenzie shouted. "NO! Please you need to look further than that. Further what my memories hold. Further what I have gone through. Then you shall place me where I truly belong. Not deciding by just one memory of mine."
Her words seemed to silence the hat. Minutes passed and he seemed like he was sleeping. When Professor McGonagall was about to speak, the hat shouted. "GRYFFINDOR!" Claps from our table erupted as she smiled ruefully making her way to our table. "But I warn you child, you must not only use your bravery in whatever is to come for you. Anything is possible. Your talents can be the way to find yourself out of what has been bestowed upon you. You must tell them yourself." The sorting hat warned mysteriously disappearing.
The great hall fell silent as she sat down. A single whisper could be heard. That's when she spoke. "Hermione owns a pretty old book that was corrected by the Midnight Huntress. That name...that name was a nickname for the daughter of Professor Blue. Not an ancestor. She loved to be called the Midnight Hunter since she was six. That calculus book you have in your hands, Hermione, with advance written calculations was done when she was a nine year old. But alas, before Harry Potter and his friends defeated Voldemort, Professor Blue was taken away. Tortured and finally...killed." Everyone gasped at the information that was bestowed on us.
Shouts and insults erupted from every table as Professor McGonagall tried to calm us down. "EVERYONE SHUT UP!"
Mackenzie stood on top of the Gryffindor table and spoke in her most frightful tone. "Losing a professor...again. I know it is hard."
Harry looked at her with a glare. "How do you know? You just started your first year here. We have experienced too much deaths and suddenly the friend we have that made us feel like normals is gone. I lost everyone from my parents to friends I've acquired. That can't be the truth. It just can't be."
Mackenzie's eyes became glassy. "But, it is the hard truth. His daughter has to survive on her own even before he died because he spent his whole life HERE IN HOGWARTS. Rather than with his daughter. She has no one to stay with right now." Why was she so touchy with this topic? "All her life, she spent it with books. And probably some other things but Dumbledore has been lending Professor Blue some books on witchcraft. She knows about this world and she cares as much as her father does. And she knows more than not to spread the word even at the age of four." Woah this kid was crazy!
Professor McGonagall asked hurriedly. "Where is his daughter? Hogwarts would be able to support her for the deeds of what her father has done for us, even if she was a muggle."
Mackenzie turned around to face McGonagall. "Two more things. One, she is not a muggle." Gasps erupted from everyone even the professors. "Two, I'll restart my introduction."
Everyone looked at her curiously. "Who needs petty introductions from a mudblood?" Henry Malfoy laughed that came along with snickers from the Slytherin table.
Something unexpected happened. Draco, ex-death eater, spoke against his cousin. "Henry, give her some respect. At least she has a chance to be good rather than me."
Mackenzie's eyes twinkled like the night stars. "Thanks, Draco." Wait, how did she know his name? "I'm happy to see you on the good side against your step father's path." Draco has a step father?! Lucius Malfoy must've been divorced to Narcissa Malfoy.
Draco's mouth parted slightly. "Wait, you know about my real parentage?"
Henry's lips quirked upwards. "How dumb can you get, Draco? Everyone knows your father is Lucius Malfoy." I winced at the name.
"What you don't know, Henry, is that Lucius Malfoy ISN'T my real father. He's actually my uncle. So is my mother Narcissa Malfoy." What is it with people and gasping? And Draco's father isn't Lucius Malfoy and Narcissa Malfoy isn't his mother. "But despite that fact that I willingly suddenly shared that information freely, I was given up by my dead mother to be taken care in my auntie's hands who was not able to bear children of her own."
I could've sworn Mackenzie smiled at his sudden revelation but it turned to a solemn look. "Draco, I'm terribly sorry you weren't able to be present at the end of the big family event. Exceptionally, you were lucky to escape the family feuds. I'd like to talk to you sometime." I could see why she said this. Draco had his mouth open like he was thinking how she could've known this information.
"H-how-" Draco stuttered.
Mackenzie winked and turned to all of us. At the same time, she bowed and spoke. "Good evening to you wizards, I am Mackenzie, Mackenzie Blue. Daughter of Cedric Blue. Chosen wizard of the Midnight Owl. The Midnight Huntress."
