Demon Letters and Goodbyes

Leo's POV

Is it me or does something feel really wrong?
I looked around my surroundings in the forges. "Nope, nothing peculiar here." I said staring at the black sword I'm carefully crafting because I might get my soul sucked into oblivion. Long story.
Jason then popped his head in through the doors. "Dude, there's something Mackenzie and Percy want to share. Dining pavilion now." So I was right, there is something wrong. Percy and Mackenzie doesn't just 'want' to share something. It either 'go away' or they walk away.
I rushed out of the forges and ran as quick as I can to the dining pavilion where I was greeted by campers staring at one particular table. The Poseidon table.
My eyes fell to the two occupants sitting across each other holding a bunch of demon letters. The letters were trying to get out of the bundle that held them together, hence the name demon letters.
"Is it me or does Percy look like he was just crying like a couple minutes ago? And so is Mackenzie?" I have never seen Percy cry in my entire life after the war. He never cried in public or at least never showed evidence that he was actually crying. Mackenzie on the other hand, same.
Mackenzie was rubbing circles with her thumb onto Percy's hands. Her mouth was moving involuntarily reciting soothing words for probably both of them. Percy has never looked paler and depressed this entire week. Something must be bothering him real bad. Or worse, both of them.
I walked closer to them and patted their shoulders. "You guys...um...is there something bothering you? Both of you?"
Mackenzie looked down and wasn't able to answer but instead she talked with Percy. "I told you I can just let that go and help you out. Going there doesn't compare to you in many ways. You're more important."
Percy looked at her and shook his head. His voice I haven't heard in two weeks came out. "You can't! Please Mackenzie. I won't let you. You'll be hunted down." They must be talking about Artemis requesting Mackenzie to come back to the hunt. "I'll be fine. I'll stay with mom."
Mackenzie sighed. "Fine. We can IM or Facetime each other every night of Britain. Though I want you to know something. If you can't contact me or I can't contact you, we can't worry too much." Oh so, Mackenzie has to leave.
Percy nodded and laid his head on the table. "Just promise me we'll see each other during weekends. We have too."
Mackenzie patted his head. "I'll try to come. Don't worry. Though with the Ministry hot on my back, I promise during the break of mid-September."
I'm actually happy Mackenzie is here to help Percy. "Fine, during your break."
Mackenzie stood up and brought out her 'wizard wand'. It still amazed me how she's a daughter of Athena and has some kind of power. She brought it to her throat and she spoke like she had a megaphone. "Attention campers, I have some letters addressed to all of you." She raised an emerald envelope. "This is a Howler-" oooohhhhh that makes more sense than demon letters. "-it's a type of letter we use in the wizarding world. Some of you don't know about Draco Malfoy, the son of Hermes who died in battle in the first war."
Travis and Connor looked down in a sad manner.
Mackenzie then spoke again after seeing the campers look down in respect for the death of Draco Malfoy. I still don't know him. "Well, Stolls, I can tell you that he is absolutely pissed off that his hair has been turned green from a care package that was sent to us by Lord Hermes himself."
Travis and Connor's eyes perked up. "He's alive?"
Mackenzie nodded and opened the letter. "Hear for yourselves." The letter flew into the air and it started talking.
"STOLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSS! You used that green dye that will last for a month. Not a day!" Then he paused. "Sooo, hey guys. I'm Draco Malfoy. I'm not dead. I actually played an important role in the War of wizards against the super duper evil grandfather of Mackenzie. Whom we just found out that he was actually related to her as her grandfather. She's not evil don't worry. I'll see you guys soon. Bye. Wait...Mackenzie, the Ministry is investigating your long disappearance especially because you are related to Voldemort. With my super spy skills I used on Voldemort, I learned that they will send you to Azkaban if you don't turn up tomorrow. I'm really sorry. They're also hunting down your cousin sooooo, yeah." Then the paper exploded.
A few more Howlers were from a lot of angry people. They were pretty mad about Mackenzie being a grand-daughter of some evil dude. That is just said.
---time skip---
Percy never left his cabin after the whole 'Howling Event'. We'd hear occasional sobs if we were standing directly outside. My guess, that was coming from Percy.
When it was time for Mackenzie to leave, the whole camp gathered as they watched the two inseparable friends in the arena just staring at each other.
Chiron trotted to Mackenzie and Percy giving them the big sad news. "It's time."
Mackenzie proceeded to hug Percy and spoke. "Promise me you yourself won't come looking for me unless I send a distress signal. Please, I need you to trust me. Don't come looking for me if I'm off the radars. I'll be fine."
Percy parted and replied. "I swear on the River Styx that I myself won't come looking for you unless you tell me to. I'll stay home where it is safe for me." I've known Percy long enough to know that he was trying to be strong.
Mackenzie smiled and hung her backpack on her shoulder. "Well, I'll see you when I can. But now, I have to deal with my untrusting fellow students." Then she disappeared with an echoing voice. "Take care Percy."
Percy let go of his strong act and dropped to the ground with an emotionless face. His eyes staring into nowhere. Apollo campers immediately ran to his side checking for anything wrong.
"What's wrong with him?" I asked in a worried tone.
Will was the first to answer. "He's not dead-" campers sighed in relief. "-though he is in shock. His brain functions aren't working. It's as if he shut himself down on his own. He may be able to heal in his mom's place only. He needs his mom to help him get out of his shocked state. It's the best way. We'll just have to send campers to check on him." Oh. That's really bad news.
