News: 9/6/19 Active Critics and Review Services

Receiving honest feedback on your book can be hard at times. You may come to me, or someone else, and wonder, "well, that's one person's view, but is that what everyone thinks? I wish I had another point of view on this story to see how my story is really doing."

Now, it's happened more than once that people have messaged me after a review and asked where they could get another review. I've always given a short list of people, and looking back, I realized that the list wasn't always quite up to date. Some critics are closing down their shop during the school year. Others have stopped due to the amount of time it takes, or other valid reasons that are to be respected. You have to realize that critiquing isn't easy work. It takes time to read a story, gather one's thoughts on the book, and then create a review that can help the writer grow.

That is why I've been searching and contacting the critics I could find here on Wattpad to help you have another opportunity to gain more insight. Each critic has their own review book, set of rules, and payment that you should look out for. Due to space, time, and everything else in between, I've only listed a few items to help guide you on where to turn to next. Before requesting a review from these wonderful and talented critics, please read the first few chapters of their review book. They may only read a few chapters of your book to save time or may have a list of expectations that is expected of you. Please be respectful and read this as it can save a lot of stress between you and the critic.

There are a few things I have listed to help guide you to another critic. The first item is their username so that you can easily find the book that you can get a review from.

After that, I have the type of service they do. For example, this review book of mine is what I call a Solo Service. That means there is one person working on reviews, which means you know who you're getting right away, but can also mean it can take longer if there are multiple people requesting a review. There's also what I call a Group Service, which has a team of critics that have teamed up to get the review done. More than likely, there will only one person working on your review, so you may not know who's getting it; however, it may be quicker due to the amount of people. Key words: may be. People in these group critique services have lives outside of Wattpad just like everyone else. Please be patient, and still give them time to get back with you as they are finding who is available to take your review.

Wait, what happens if the account has multiple books? Well, luckily for you, I've followed the type of service with the title of the book you should be looking out for. That title is the book that has their reviews, rules, forms, and all the added information you need to know before requesting a review. Again, please read their rules very carefully. There may be some valuable information that can make or break you having a review.

Another thing you should look out for is the kind of genre the critic does. I have my small list of genres I won't help due to my limited expertise and preference. The same goes for these critics. I've listed the genre that they specialize in, so if they specialize in something that's not fanfic, please don't give them your Supergirl or Pokémon fanfic. It may not go over so well. The same goes for if they specialize in fanfic...an original story may not be accepted. Despite this list, they still have the right to refuse a book for other reasons, but this should hopefully guide you to a helpful source.

And finally, one of the most overlooked things I see when making any sort of request (whether it be a cover making service, a review, or whatever it may be) is payment. Yes, I didn't list the rules and expectations of each critic. Those should be read no matter what. I've decided to list the payment of their review because it does take a lot of time and effort for them to critique your book. The last thing you want to do is be disrespectful and not fulfill your end of the bargain.

I've said this a couple of times, but before I get to these wonderful critics, I just want to make it clear. Each critic has their own set of rules. Please, please, PLEASE follow the rules listed in their books. In addition to this, watch out to see if these critics are available for a review. Some may take breaks due to schooling, to catch up with the workload they already have, and many other reasons. It's very frustrating as a critic to see a writer request a review because (and, I hope I speak for every critic and not just myself) we really want to get to that review, but the time we have to work on it at the moment is nonexistent. Don't put that strain on other critics.

Above all else, be respectful, be patient, and have fun requesting your books. I've read at least one entry of all these critics, and can say that they all do a phenomenal job on their part. They each have their own unique style of critiquing and are also wonderful people as well.

That's all the critics I have gotten information on at the moment. Every few months, I will try and find more critics for you to go through if you have a book that you'd want reviewed. If you or someone you know is a critic and would like more books sent their way, please don't hesitate to message me via comment, Direct/Private/whatever-you-call-it message, or through my conversations board, and I will add them to the next list of people here and will give their names to people who want another review.

And, before it's asked, I don't plan on stopping my critique services anytime soon. This is just here for your convenience in case you want another point of view, I can't review your book (whether it be for a second time or I had to turn it down due to the rules stated in the beginning of this book), if I can't accept a book due to workload, or if I'm taking a break due to life outside of Wattpad. Hopefully one of these critics can help you improve in your writing skills, tell you how well your book is doing, and all that other good stuff. If not, please keep in mind it's probably due to a reason very similar to mine.

All in all, there are many ways to improve, get your story discovered, and all that good stuff here on Wattpad. I just hope that this is a good stepping stone for those looking for another critic.

Good luck with your writing!
