News: 7/19/19 Updates of Reviews
Hello, Junie here with a quick update. I am back to reviewing and critiquing. This is about two weeks earlier than planned due to my personal life winding down a bit (in a good way) and figuring out how to improve this book a bit more.
As you have probably noticed, there are three forms you can choose from. Each of them may seem long, but should give a clear understanding of what's to be expected.
As mentioned, I'm now doing "private reviews". I will create a google doc and send it to you through private message. It will be formatted the same as a regular review. The only difference is that it's private. Only the writer and I will know what goes on in it unless the writer tells someone or gives me permission to publish it. I will not publish any private reviews unless the writer tells me to do so.
Public reviews will stay the same. The form for that is just a bit longer. From feedback and suggestions I've gotten from people, I'm adding a "spoilers/no spoilers" option. In the past, I tried not giving spoilers; however, the more I review, the more I started to realize where these points may be helpful to give. My solution is just to give the writer that choice as I can still do a decent review with or without it.
No matter what review you do, there will be an agreement saying that by allowing me to review your book, I'm allowed to nitpick it. I think this is self explanatory when asking someone to critique a book; however, it never hurts to have a mutual agreement.
A Promo form has remained exactly the same. I will be doing my own side promotions called "Junie's Picks." They'll just be books I promote that I think are great (with the writers okay to do so). They have nothing to do with special requests or anything, just that they're books I found and think should be read more.
My rules, on the other hand, are a bit different. I am opening my critiques to all books. This means I will now be critiquing beyond Pokéfic; however, there are some genres/themes I don't feel comfortable with. My main two genres I can't critique are Horror and Fanfic that I'm not a part of. This is due to my limited knowledge of it, and I don't think I'd be qualified to give help. Beyond that, if there are too many gory scenes, or have detailed explicit scenes that should stay behind closed doors, I won't accept as well as I just don't feel comfortable around that.
Of course, these are all in regards to reviews. Promos are open to this kind of stuff (within reason...I won't promote books that have a ton of explicit scenes).
Most of my rules are just common courtesy. Be kind, be patient, don't be rude or nasty. I'm making a point of this not because of problems on the past (as I'm thankful I've not run into this problem) but rather to avoid this issue if it comes up. My solution is that the writer won't be receiving futures promos/reviews, and if they break any rules while I'm writing one up, I may just drop the review/promo right there. I hope this doesn't happen, but rudeness won't be tolerated here.
I am only accepting three requests at a time. This is to save sanity on my part as I've worked on more than three books at one time before...and nearly lost it. If there's a book request during a time I've accepted three others, I won't accept it until I have an open slot.
And finally, I am making a payment for all promos/reviews. It's just so I know you've seen the review/promo though. All I require is a simple vote/comment/message indicating that you've seen the review/promo.
Seems like there's a lot of new stuff going on, but most of it is having future requesters being more aware of what is expected. True, most of this is what I believe is common courtesy; however, even I need to be reminded of my manners every once in a while. Everything will run the same. I will still comment on the good, the bad, the things that need improvement. I won't be too harsh, but will be honest with what I have to say.
I'm just so glad to be back to review. I can't wait to see what new books are thrown my way so that I can help other writers. Take care everyone, and good luck on your future writings!
