Chapter 3 Juleka's Struggle & Ethan's Hospital Stay Comes to an End

In the previous Chapter, two weeks after Ethan Winters saves Juleka from being hit by a car she visits him daily in the hospital. She still felt guilty about what happened to him.

Ethan had gotten a broken wrist as a result. He had developed a crush on the girl whose life he had saved, but did not know how to tell her.

Back to the Current Chapter, Ethan sighs as Juleka leaves to go to her job. He has no idea where she works.

    Ethan's  POV:

He wonders what it is that troubles the young lady. He has no idea how much their sudden encounter two weeks ago has impacted both their lives.

   Juleka's  POV:
She knows Ethan seems upset today. She thinks not that it matters anyway because he is not my boyfriend.

Juleka works hard at the bakery and chooses to remain positive. She recalls how back in high school she had gotten akumantized when she felt rejection by her crush Nathaniel. She knew he only saw her as a friend.  This is the problem she thought everyone always sees me as just a friend.  She wonders why Ethan even speaks to her.

Juleka's POV:
He will probably forget me after he gets out of the hospital.  Everyone forgets about me.

  Juleka's POV:
After high school, I got a job and a few months into my boss fired me when he thought I was stealing from the company.  I was not but he did not believe me. Then, later Marinette's parents hired me to work for them.

A few months later, Marinette's mother died and her father sold the bakery to the Bougerious and moved back to China.   Marinette eloped with her true love, Adrien Agreste.

It was nice of the Bougerious to let me stay on, but for how long?  How long until they forget about me too?

After work, Juleka goes to her volunteer job at the animal shelter where the dogs and cats are always happy to see her.  She enjoys her time spent here. She even has a pet cat named Mittens that she adopted from the place at one point. She sees a new cat that was just brought in and thinks, it looks like Mitten's twin.

Ethan wonders where Juleka goes after her daily visits with him. He wonders how she spends her afternoons.

  Ethan's  POV:
Is she single?  He sighs and thinks, a girl like her probably has a boyfriend.

He thinks, she does not seem to like me so why does she visit me so much?

Perhaps, it is because of guilt.  Yes, that must be it.

"Nurse, when may I leave?  My wrist seems to have healed nicely," Ethan says.

"The doctor will release you when the time is right," The nurse assures him.

One month later, Ethan finds out he leaves the hospital one week from today. He thinks, I will miss Juleka later.

Ethan's POV:
How can I tell her I leave next week?   Maybe, it is best if I say nothing.

Juleka's POV:

I wonder how soon Ethan leaves the hospital. Why do I care anyway?

She sighs and thinks, I have a crush on him!

What do I do?  She shakes her head and thanks, nothing.

I can not tell him after how rotten I have been to him.

Why does this always happen to me?

Juleka is in shock. She has fallen in love. She shakes her head and decides not to visit him. She must not see him.  She can not let her guard down not again.

She works then, goes to the volunteer job at the animal shelter for a bit.

Ethan notices Juleka has not come today.  He thinks, where is she?

Ethan's  POV:
Great, now she is avoiding me!  Did I come on too strong to her?  Is that it?

Does she hate me?  He thinks, perhaps we were not meant to be after all.

He is jealous of the thought of anyone else dating her. He shakes his head and thinks, she is free to date whoever she wants too.

He takes his good arm and slams the table in frustration and dents it. Then, he drinks some water and takes a nap.

Juleka leaves the shelter as it closes and goes home. She feeds Mittens, washes her hands and fixes her supper. She eats alone, then reads a book. She goes for a walk to clear her head and when she looks up sees she is outside the hospital. She thinks, so much for avoiding him.

She enters the building and goes to see Ethan. She sits in the chair in silence.

The nurse enters the room with the food tray. She sets it down without a word about the dents and leaves the room.

"Ethan, look I am sorry, I am late," Juleka says.

"It is okay, you know your the only one who ever comes to see me," Ethan says with a voice barely above a whisper.

"Oh, I thought you had tons of visitors," Juleka says.

"Well, sorry to disappoint you pretty lady, but no one else ever comes," Ethan says.

"Oh, that is to bad because you seem like a nice guy,"  Juleka says.

"Oh, why you a hurry to get out of here then?  You a secret agent or something?" Ethan teases her.

"No, my job is in trouble and also I volunteer at the local animal shelter,"  Juleka tells him.

"Cool, well I get out of here, next week!" Ethan says with a huge grin. He thinks, why did I just tell her this.

"Wow, Ethan that is good news!" Juleka says. She stands up and hugs him.

Juleka feels embarrassed when the nurse enters the room.  "You have a great thing going with her, you know," The nurse says.

"She is not my girlfriend, we are just friends," Ethan says.

"Well, you could have fooled me with that hug," The nurse replies.  She leaves the room.

One week later, Ethan leaves the hospital for good now. He goes home and sees a text from his mother.

   Morie's text to her son

Do you have a  girlfriend?

  Ethan's text to his mother

No, Mom.

Ethan does not tell her about Juleka. He figures she would not understand. He eats his supper and goes on a  walk.  He ends up outside the animal shelter. He thinks, great now she will think I am a stalker. He turns around and starts to walk home. He sees a man holding his ankle. He helps him out of the road and to the sidewalk.
