Chapter 17 - 'Amazing Fantasy'
[After Another Month we return...Sorry for the wait again, I'll try and make things more constant if this book still has some life to it lol.
But that doesn't matter right now. It's Revenge Time...]
______
[3rd Person POV]
--Kyoto Jujutsu High | Roughly Two Years Ago--
Heavy rain. A dark, dreary sky. They seemed the perfect recipe for someone going through shit. Add in soulless music that normally lifts one's spirit, and you'd have the current moment in (Y/n) (L/n)'s life. A boy filled with so much Cursed Potential, so close to reaching the heights his life would one day bring...Left to sit on the roof of a random building in the grounds of the Kyoto Jujutsu High School as the previously mentioned heavy ran stormed down onto his lifeless body. It's funny, you know. Everyone dreams of living the perfect life. It's a spark of hope that we're born with. Heck! Even when things get to a boiling point, you still manage to picture what your life would be like if something changed. Something that'd turn your shitty existence into something you could take pride in.
It's something (Y/n) had always found himself carrying. But whereas this spark of hope normally carried exactly that...hope, after going through years of sorrow and grief, it was beginning to feel like a burden for the young boy. He wanted his life to change, but no matter how hard he tried, it just seemed to be this immovable object that did nothing but screw him up over and over again. His whole life had been like that pretty much, managing to somehow get worse when he ended up reluctantly going to Kyoto's Jujutsu High because his Mother thought it'd be good for him. (Y/n) knew from the moment he realized he had no interest in being a sorcerer that it wouldn't do much good. But as he sits on this rooftop, as thunderous rain flooded down upon his drenched body, his entire face other than his jaw protected by the hoodie of the jumper he wore.
The gentle soul in which (Y/n) was was left to witness the reminder before him constantly. He didn't know why he was subjecting himself to the pain of rewatching what happened. But a part of him felt that in doing so, he found some sort of accomplishment... An accomplishment that told him that his suspicions about coming here...were exactly right. The radiant light of his phone screen left protected from the rain due to (Y/n)'s head being hunched over the device, shun onto his dull face as he took in the video currently playing. It wasn't exactly shown what was happening in the video. The only sound being heard was loud laughter. Hearing just that, you'd think the video was pretty funny, right? Some might actually think that, even after watching it. Well, if you were (Y/n), you'd think otherwise.
However, if you were to listen closer, and pay attention to the other sounds in the video, you might have managed to pick up the faint noise of someone whimpering in the background. Luckily, for whatever reason, the people who made this video decided not to actually show the face of this person, saving them some embarrassment. But if you were (Y/n)...You wouldn't exactly feel like much embarrassment was saved. Mostly when you considered that whilst only a handful knew about this video, that handful of people were the very subjects of life he was forced to encounter every day. Add in the fact that they didn't like (Y/n), and you'd understand why he wasn't exactly happy about this video being spread around the school. Of course, the teachers knew nothing about it, not that they'd do anything...
As for (Y/n) himself, if it wasn't obvious already...He was the one whimpering in the video. Left to fall to the mercy of his school bullies for what felt like the hundredth time. But it wasn't just crying that he was subjected to, as with the slightest movement of his phone, the light from the screen did enough to showcase the bruised black eye that took up a sizeable portion of the left side of his face. The attack was still fresh, only about two days old. It didn't hurt much now, but every time (Y/n) saw it in the mirror, he was reminded of the pain and anger the scrawny boy felt flooding through his system every time he did. If he could, he would have torn that chunk of his face off his body. Sure, he'd look almost as bad as a curse, but then again...it's not like the people in this school saw him as anything more than that.
--Two Days Earlier--
Two days earlier, and whilst (Y/n)'s face was currently 'Black eye free'; he still found himself carrying that same lifeless expression as he travelled through the halls of his current Jujutsu High. It was the afternoon now, and classes had just finished; and like every afternoon once his torture of going through something he could barely handle was over, he found himself heading straight back to his bedroom. The only safe place in this entire prison. Now, (Y/n)'s room wasn't much. About a ten by ten meter square bit of space in the far corner of the student's dorm rooms. But whilst it wasn't much, it felt like heaven to a guy who constantly felt as if his daily life was hell.
So it was a nice break for things, plus, it didn't help that it felt like the only place he could actually be himself without being bullied. And by 'being himself'; (Y/n) was referring to the nerdy nature in which he enjoyed during his free time. Whether that be Manga; Anime; comics from America; movies; or video games! All of which, one way or another, someone would find weird for someone to be interested in. Something (Y/n) constantly feared, as in which he often kept such interests to himself, and in his bedroom.
After all, if someone like Todo found out about his interests, the brute of a human would most definitely have a whole new group of words to use against (Y/n). So with (Y/n) being forced to keep his life secret; and already having a craving to get away from the world he was forced to face; it wasn't exactly surprising that he rushed as fast as he could to return to his bedroom. But as he finally reached the end of the hallway in which the student dorms lay, (Y/n)'s entire world came crashing and burning like a plane without a pilot on a runway. His entire skin tone went pale from the sight he saw. It only got worse when his ears finally caught up to the noise going on inside his only safe space.
"Hahahahaha! This is fucking ridiculous! Look at all this stuff?! I wonder how much money that dweeb spent on this all?"
A female voice...the bain of his existence...was quick to alert (Y/n) to the real danger that was currently going on in his bedroom. However, the feeling only got worse when it was joined by another.
"Oh my gosh! Look at all these Lego sets. And comic books! This place is like a nerd's creepiest sex dream! Pfft...If they'd even get the chance for that."
It only took (Y/n) a few seconds before he recognised this second voice, and adding it up with the first he heard, (Y/n) realized instantly that this mixture of characters in his life was one of the worst! Now, honestly, you could probably say that for any duo at Jujutsu High. They all hated (Y/n) in one way or another, and putting anyone with anyone else, and left them to ridicule the boy, was no pretty picture. But when you add these two individuals, and place them in (Y/n)'s room of all places! Well, it no longer was a nightmare...It was hell on earth for the young man.
(???): "Oh, wow! Mai, come look at this one! I think I've seen this comic before!"
The name of Mai being brought up left (Y/n) with chills running down his spine...
Mai: "Huh, what was that, Momo?"
The name of Momo left (Y/n)'s legs feeling wobbly. Not because of any reason you thought up. But because Momo liked to take her anger out on (Y/n) sometimes, and, well...She chose to do so by kicking (Y/n) between the legs...Yeah. But as (Y/n)'s mind was swarmed with Vietnam-style flashbacks, his focus was suddenly brought back to the present moment by one sentence alone.
Mai: "Hey, look at this one... It's got someone's signature on it."
As soon as (Y/n) heard that, great fears immediately started flooding his mind. He knew exactly which comic-book the two girls were talking about. And unfortunately, (Y/n) was exactly right. For as he pictured his greatest fears, currently inside of his room, such could be seen in reality. Both Mai and Momo, students of Jujutsu High in Kyoto, found themselves standing in front of one of the four walls in (Y/n)'s room. It just so happened that on this particular wall was a display of some of (Y/n)'s comic books. One of which being signed.
The comic book in question revolved around a certain web-slinging hero from American comics. The cover had the hero on full display, with him holding onto a web in one hand, and the unconscious body of a criminal in the other, as he swung through the city. But the major draw of attention was the signature written right across the front, under neither the protective cover. Such immediately caught Momo's attention. But due to the witch-like blonde-haired girl being short, it was up to Mai to grab the comic from it's display rack and brought it down for both girls to see properly.
Mai: "Spider...Man? I've never heard of it." [Turns to Momo] "What is this? Some kind of colourful manga?"
Momo: "No. It's a comicbook, from a America. It's made by Marvel comics, and this is one of their most popular heroes."
Mai: "Who? Spider-Man? But no one likes Spiders. Why would he be so popular?"
Momo: "Well, I mean, his true identity, Peter Parker, isn't exactly cool. He's a nerd with glasses. But after he got bit by a spider he got incredible powers. He can climb up walls. Swing from building to building. He actually made webshooters on his own which is actually pretty impressi--"
Mai: "Hahaha! Wow, Momo, you really know a lot about this Spider-Guy, huh?" [Grins] "Don't tell me you're some kind of nerd now!"
Instantly a look of fear spread across Momo's face. Fear that remained present even as she began to ramble.
Momo: "Wh-What? No! Pfft! Bitch, please! I...I just know it because I went to see one of the movies with a guy for a date once...He dragged me along for it!"
Mai: "Oh...Okay. Whatever." [Turns back to the comic] "But what about the signature on the front?"
Momo: "It's probably Stan Lee. He's the guy who created the character. This comic is probably worth a lot, especially with he signature, so I can't blame the nerd for--"
Mai: "Oh, expensive? Well then, something worth that much surely deserves to be read. Might as well see what this nerd is int--"
(Y/n): "No! Please don't!"
Out of nowhere, the voice of (Y/n) flooded the air. Immediately Mai and Momo turned around to see a concerned (Y/n) standing at the entrance of his bedroom, fear on his face, as he reached out for the comic book. It was a move of desperation. Unfortunately for (Y/n), whenever Mai sensed someone being desperate...She knew it was the perfect time for her to have some fun with them. And out of everyone, she loved to have fun with (Y/n) the most.
(Y/n): [Concerned] "Pl-Please! Don't! Don't take it out of the cover. Th-That comic is worth a lot to me!"
Mai: "Ha! I bet! I just found out that this little book is worth a lot. I'd google it, but...I don't wanna. And seeing as the number one nerd is here--"
Momo: "--I'm not a--"
Mai: "--I might as well ask him, himself."
Instantly, a sinister grin found Mai's lips. The admittedly pretty girl now looking a whole new set of evil as she waved the comic, and the plastic protector that still covered it, in the air for (Y/n)'s nervous gaze to lock onto.
Mai: "So...How much is it worth?"
(Y/n): "The price doesn't mean shit to me! It means more to me personally than mon--"
Mai: "Um, I didn't ask about the sob story behind it? I want to know the price. So, be a good dweeb and tell me. Now. Or I'll just..."
She went to reach out for the edge of the plastic protect to rip it off and remove the comic. But the threat enough was all it took for (Y/n) to scream out in desperation.
(Y/n): "SOMETHING LIKE $25'000, OKAY?!"
As soon as that number entered the air, Mai's eyes widened in complete shock...and slight horror that something this small could be worth so much. As for (Y/n), the concern on his eyes only continued to grow as he feared that a single wrong step could cause this pried item to be damaged or worse.
Mai: "...Ha...Haha...Hahaha! Yeah, right!"
(Y/n): "H-Huh?"
Mai: "As if I'd believe that, loser! There's no way something this shitty could cost that much!"
(Y/n): "What? No! It's true! It does cost that, and that's not even mentioning the fact that the price is from one that's graded a '7'. If it was something close to a '10', it'd go for something like $50'000."
Mai: "$50'000--"
(Y/n): "...And that's in American prices. The one in your hand isn't the best kept. But it's in good enough condition that it's worth that much. Probably even more with that signature. But, look! The price doesn't matter, okay? That comic was handed down to me by my Dad, and he got it from his Dad."
Mai: "And? Why would I care about that?" [Thoughts] "There's no way this pathetic thing could be worth that much. He's obviously lying. I'll make him pay for that."
It's as Mai planned out everything, that with (Y/n), he was having a crisis. Because, you see, whereas Mai didn't believe him, (Y/n) was telling the truth. The comic currently in her hands was worth a LOT of money. And honestly, if he sold it, (Y/n) could probably make his life much better. Like, a lot! But whereas a lot of others would probably sell this handed-down item without a second thought, (Y/n) was different. You see, (Y/n)'s Father was a Lawyer. It was because of this, and other things, that stopped him from being home a lot.
But even when he was, (Y/n) and him didn't really spend much time together. There wasn't really much they could bond over. They didn't really like a lot of the same things. However, if there was one thing they could bond over...It was Spider-Man. And all of that started when (Y/n) was only Eight Years Old. It was during that time that (Y/n)'s Father introduced him to the special comic book his Father bought when he was a young man. Of course, he eagerly wanted to share such a thing with his own son, (Y/n)'s Father. So it was what started the line of fandom in the (L/n) family for liking the web-slinger.
But it was more than just a simple liking for (Y/n), as Spider-Man was the only thing him and his Father could talk about and actually feel a sense of belonging between the pair. It was this memory, and the countless that spawned off of it, plus how much this comic meant to his father because it was given to him when (Y/n)'s Grandfather died, that made the young boy fear for this moment right now. And the reason why he refused to sell it, despite how much it could change his life. Unfortunately, it all seemed to be coming up in smoke right now.
(Y/n): "Mai, please...I know we don't get along--"
Mai: [Mumbles] "Pfft. That's an understatement."
(Y/n): "--Yeah. Sure. Whatever. I'm serious, okay. You...You can do anything you want to me. But...Please. That comic means a lot to me and my family. So please just put it down and--"
Mai: "...Means a lot to your family, huh?"
(Y/n): [Lifts Head] "H-Huh?"
Lifting his head, (Y/n) found Mai's grin had returned. As soon as he saw it...His fear only grew. However, he seemed to find luck finally on his side when Mai continued to speak.
Mai: "Alright, how about this, (Y/n)? Let's make a deal."
(Y/n): "Deal?"
Mai: "Yeah. A deal. I will give you this comic back, if you, oh...I don't know...Kiss my foot?"
A raised eyebrow was all (Y/n) could offer in this moment. He wasn't exactly expecting that. And going off the look on Momo's face, neither was she.
Momo: "Kiss your feet? That's it?"
Mai: "Huh?" [Looks down at Momo] "Yeah...What's the matter with it?"
Momo: "I dunno. It's fine, I guess. I was just expecting you to do more is all. Ah! Unless the reason you're doing this is because..."
Momo didn't respond. All she did was lift her gaze up to her taller friend and grin. And whilst (Y/n) didn't know what this meant, Mai seemed to. At least, going off her reaction, she did. For as soon as she saw Momo's grin, Mai's face exploded into a pink shade. When her gaze shifted back to (Y/n), the young boy just stood there in silence and confusion. Unfortunately for (Y/n), this seemed to only piss Mai off further. For when she saw this, her eyes narrowed in anger. (Y/n) didn't know what he did. But whatever it was, it seemed to set something off in Mai.
Mai: "Alright, fine!" [Grins] "If kissing my foot ain't enough. I want you to beg for it as well, (Y/n)."
(Y/n): "B-Beg?"
Momo: "Beg? Oh, girl~"
Mai: [Grumbles] "Shut up, Momo!" [Turns back to you] "Now then, (Y/n)...What will it be?"
What would it be, indeed? (Y/n) didn't like acting like a dog for Mai. Having to get on his knees and kiss her foot, let alone beg for her to hand over something that was his. If he was strong. Confident. He would have done something else. But he wasn't any of those. He was weak. Afraid. Fearful that this item that brought the only connection between his Father and himself would end up being destroyed. So, with only a moment of hesitation, (Y/n) soon found himself getting onto his knees. But before he could complete the act--
Mai: "I want you to crawl, too."
(Y/n): "Huh?"
Mai: "Crawl. Like a dog. A pathetic dog who will beg for his Master to give him his silly little comic book..."
When the sentence was done, (Y/n) quickly dropped his face back to ground. Not to concede to what Mai was asking of him. But so that she wouldn't see the anger that was building on his face. After all, he didn't want to do any of this. All he wanted was to come back to his room after a long shitty day and just forget about it all. But, of course, he couldn't get even the most simplistic things in his life. So, seeing as (Y/n) couldn't do anything else, he did as was asked. Getting on his hands and knees, the young boy slowly began crawling towards the towering figure of Mai. A silent Momo standing at the side with a grin. He wasn't sure what Mai's expression was. Honestly, he didn't want to look.
So, instead, (Y/n) just kept his head low. Hoping that this would be over and done with quick enough so he could move on and forget it ever happened. As long as he could just get the comic back...Everything would be worth it. However, of course, as stories like this go, there came a time when a spark of hope would arise inside of the main character. A spark of reassurance. Of determination. One that gave them belief in not only the impossible but themself as well. And for (Y/n), that just so happened to come right now. For as the young boy kept his gaze on the ground, the voice of Utahime, the only person in this school who seemed to genuinely care for him, came to his mind in an instant.
"...(Y/n), you may not realise it now. But there is something special about you. And it's not because of who you are related to, or what people expect of you. It's because at the end of the day, you are you. That's something only you have. It's what makes you unique. It's what makes you, you! It's what makes you..."
"Special"
It was that final word that gave the most spark to the fire slowly building up in (Y/n) right now. The voice of Utahime giving him this feeling that he could stand up for himself, and not be some fool crawling around because he was too afraid to stand up for himself. And you know what...He was done being a fool! He was going to stand up for himself and what was his! So that's exactly what he did!
Mai: "Hmm~ The sight of you crawling like an obedient idiot is rather amusing, (Y/n). But I think its time for you to beg. So why don't you start with--"
(Y/n): "--No."
Mai: [Smiles] "That's more like i--Excuse me?!"
Instantly darting her gaze to the ground, Mai's fierce stare fell onto (Y/n). But what surprised the girl, as well as Momo next to her, was that (Y/n) didn't keep his own gaze to the ground. Instead, he stood on what he believed and stared right back up at Mai with an equally feirce gaze.
(Y/n): "I said...No. I'm done being pushed around by everyone. Sure, I might get pushed back down. But right now, I'm going to stand up for myself...and what's mine."
Mai: [Trying to control her anger] "Yours? Nothing's yours, shithead! Nothing belongs to you, and nothing ever will. You're a waste of life. A skid mark on this world. You don't even have a cursed technique, so how the HELL do you expect to get this pathetic shitty comic book bac--"
Mai was right. (Y/n) didn't have a cursed technique. So getting his comic back would be tough. But sometimes it's better to think, instead of acting brashly. So without a moment of hesitation, out of nowhere, (Y/n) launched up from the ground and reached out to grab his comic from Mai's grip. And surprisingly...He did. Before he knew it, his hand had wrapped around the side of the comic, much to Mai's shock. However...Things weren't so easily completed.
For whereas the sudden action most certainly did shock Mai, (Y/n) did not get lucky enough to manage to catch the girl in a time of less awareness. For when (Y/n) grabbed onto the comic, expecting to freely remove it from Mai's hand, he was startled to find that she still had a good grip on it. Such caused his attempt to remove it to be prolonged. Before long, the sight of the pair both tugging on the comic book was all that could be seen, as their voices ricocheted off one another.
(Y/n): "Give! It! Back! To! Me!"
Mai: "Get! Off! Me! Shithead!"
(Y/n): "Just! Give! It! Back!"
Mai: "Fuck...Off!!"
It's with that final word that the numbers became clear. And they were not in (Y/n)'s favour. For as Mai and (Y/n) continued to struggle over the comic book, out of nowhere, Momo came out of nowhere to kick (Y/n) right in between the legs from behind. The surprised attack enough (Y/n) with so much pain that he couldn't keep his hand on the comic for much longer than a few seconds. It was once his hand let go that his body quickly dropped to his knees, and then to the floor, as the pain of what just happened coursed through his body. It was as silent whimpers of pain filled the air that the grinning Momo made her way around to Mai in front of (Y/n), and it was fair to say that she wasn't exactly pleased with (Y/n)'s momentary rebellion.
Mai: "Well, now, look where we're at? You. Pathetic. On the ground. Yet again. And, oh? What's this? I still have your fucking comic book in hand! I win, (Y/n)!"
Even through the pain he currently received, (Y/n) still found room for me. And that pain was soon to grow. For as he looked through half-opened eyes, (Y/n) was left to witness as not only did Mai peel off the protective cover of the comic book slowly. But also took it out of it. Seeing this made (Y/n) fear for the worst. And it seemed Mai planned to keep those fears on the edge. First, she started by flicking open the first page of the comic book. An exaggerated expression of astonishment finding her face as she mocked (Y/n). Slowly, he tried to reach out for her. Managing to drag his body around to the point he could reach for her leg. But just before he could, out of nowhere Mai slammed her foot down onto his hand.
And seeing as she currently had heels on, the sharp groove of the back piece of her shoe was extremely painful as it stabbed its way onto (Y/n)'s hand. It didn't break through the skin or anything much, but it still really hurt. It caused (Y/n) to scream out in pain and cry. Cry for all of this to stop. It was a pathetic sight that caused Momo to cackle in amusement. As for Mai, when she saw this, she seemed to hesitate for a moment. Slight rapid blinking coming from the girl as she took in the appearance of (Y/n) right now. However, that look quickly dropped when Momo suddenly turned to her. Such was enough for Mai's grin to return, along with a wicked idea. It was in this moment that Mai decided to make a deal with (Y/n).
If he would let her record him in this pitiful state, she would give him back the comic book without any further harm. Now, (Y/n) couldn't respond properly, so Mai just took that as response enough. So with a gleeful grin, she got out her phone and began recording the boy in his desperate situation. The recording was filled with laughter and mocking from the two girls, all the while (Y/n) silently whimpered for no one to respond. This mental torture went on for a good few minutes before Mai and Momo got bored and decided to leave. Of course, not before tossing the comic book onto (Y/n)'s body. Though, in doing so, it caused a few pages to crinkle up and get damaged.
Mai: "Here, loser. Have your pathetic comic book back. If it means so much to you..."
It seemed that was it, Mai and Momo went to leave. But just as the girls got in line where (Y/n)'s feet were spread out onto the floor, the aforementioned female popped her head up.
Mai: "Oh! One more thing though..." [Looks over her shoulder] "If you ever want to actually have a life and, you know, get a girlfriend, I'd suggest dropping nerdy shit like this. It's nothing but a fantasy loser."
Through tear-stained eyes, (Y/n) buried his head further into the ground as he prayed for this moment to end. And it did...But not before one final remark.
Mai: "Then again, actually, you're exactly that. A loser. So...Maybe an amazing fantasy is all you can do?"
Mai was right. After all, he was weak. He was afraid. And it made him angry...But even so, he could still do nothing. He laid there on that floor for what felt like an eternity. By the time he recovered, he slowly sat up and returned the comic book to the protective cover, trying his best to reshape the pages and now smear the signature. In the end, it was clear the comic had been removed from the cover.
But the message was delivered nonetheless. Things didn't get better for (Y/n) beyond this point either. The next day, Todo would find out about what Mai did and ended up giving (Y/n) a black eye. Not because of what happened, but because he was amused that (Y/n) could be so weak as to get beaten by two girls. But in the end, who should be surprised? He was a nobody. Just a simple waste of life, filled with nothing but cursed potential.
--Present Day | Tokyo's Jujutsu High Courtyard | Sister School Exchange Event Day--
But today...(Y/n) was looking to change that. He was no longer weak. No longer afraid. No longer living in a fantasy. He was born anew. As someone not to be trifled with. But going off the narrowed gazes a few of his former classmates gave from across the small area of this particular courtyard, whatever was to come now...It'd definitely be an event, that was for sure.
Gojo: [Joyously] "The Tokyo-Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event will be held over two days. The first day will be group battles... The Wacky Cursed Spirit Exorcism Race! Yay! Now then, the rules are simple. The first team to exorcise the second-grade cursed spirit released in the designated areas of the Tokyo Jujutsu High School wins. Several third-grades and lower cursed spirits will be released in the designated area, as well. If a winner is not decided by sundown, the team that exorcised the most win--"
"Ha! Exorcise? Does it look like I've exorcised a day in my life before?"
The sudden interruption of Gojo's sentence was enough to leave the Sorcerer to narrow his gaze as he turned toward the Tokyo-based students, most promptly, Panda. The aforementioned bear could be seen silently giggling to himself after the remark, whilst nudging the shoulders of Inumaki and (Y/n).
Panda: "Hehe~ Hehe~ He--" [Notices Gojo Glaring] "Oh! Uh...Sorry, Sensei."
Gojo: [Keeps gaze narrowed] "...As I was saying..." [Turns back around, smiles brightly] "That's about it! Haha! Now go out there and have some fun!"
[Your POV]
Of course, what Gojo didn't add was the fact teams were allowed to sabotage each other; that the event actually started at noon after lunch and not now; and one other important detail which we'd get to shortly. But honestly, I'm kinda glad he ended it there. Standing in front of my old terrorisers felt weird. Especially when I was getting a mixture of glares and cocky grins from them. Then again, I'm pretty sure Miwa's grin was directed at Gojo. She always did have a crush on him...That kinda sucked for "two years ago (Y/n)". After all, she was probably the nicest to him. Even if she really only took an interest in him because he was related to Gojo.
Something I still believe she didn't fully believe herself. Nevertheless! That did not matter right now! I had a bombshell of a babe who only partially yells at me, and also has sex with me sometimes now. I call that a win. And it was partially due to the overall high I still found from realizing I'm a man that has sex now that I didn't even find it that awkward when I began walking away from the courtyard without even thinking about my old school bullies. I was contempt with just returning to Tokyo's stationed gathering room on the left side of the school, where I'm sure the others would meet up with me, when out of nowhere a voice called out from behind. It was a voice I knew from Kyoto. But unlike the others...This one I actually liked.
"(Y/n)! Hold on a second!"
(Y/n): "Huh?"
Looking over my shoulder almost instantly from picking up the voice, the sight of Utahime rushing towards me caught my eye. That's weird...It wasn't often I had girls running at me. Let alone a teacher. But it wasn't all that awkward, even when Utahime, a woman that's not exactly twice my age, but still older, eventually came to a stop some meters before me. Now left to bend over slightly as she panted from running the short distance.
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "She's panting? That's not good. A sorcerer being tired after that short of a distance?"
Utahime: [Panting Slightly] "Hey--Um...Hello, (Y/n). Uh, I-I just wanted to come and apologise for before."
(Y/n): "Hmm? Apologies? What for?"
Utahime: "For what that idiotic fool 'Gojo' said." [Grumbles] "Cocky piece of shit..."
(Y/n): "Oh! Okay. But, um...I didn't exactly hear what he said, sorry."
Utahime: "You didn't?"
...But I did hear it. I heard it all. About how Gojo called Utahime scandalous for hugging me upon our reunion. But I said nothing of this, wanting to save the poor woman who was kind to be during my days at Kyoto the embarrassment. So that's exactly what I did.
Utahime: "Oh. O-Okay. Um...Well, I was kinda expecting that topic to run its course, giving me enough time to think of what else to say, but I guess that's thrown out the window now, huh?"
(Y/n): "Yeah, I guess..."
Utrahime: "I guess..."
(Y/n): "..."
Utahime: "..."
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "This is awkward..."
Utahime: [Thoughts] "This is awkward..."
(Y/n): "I'm talking to my old teacher..."
Utahime: "I'm talking to my former student..."
(Y/n): "What do I say..."
Utahime: "What do I say..."
(Y/n): "This shouldn't be awkward..."
Utahime: "Why is this so awkward..."
(Y/n): "This silence is starting to drag on. Better say something."
Utahime: "If this silence keeps dragging on I'm gonna make myself look like a--"
(Y/n): [Out Loud] "--So how ya been?"
Utahime: [Out Loud] "Huh? Oh! Um, well, thank you. How about you...?"
(Y/n): "Oh, you know. Kicking ass, taking names. The usual."
Utahime: "The...Usual?"
Utahime couldn't help but crack a small smile as she heard, and watched, how I acted. I mean, I was smiling. Confidently. I was talking in a way I never did during my days at Kyoto. It was kinda shocking for Utahime. Unbeknownst to me now, however, but she had been silently looking forward for this day for some time now. She always felt sorry for me when she was my teacher, often thinking of ways to make the studies at Jujutsu High easier on me so so he could understand and handle them better.
But in the end, there was only so much she could do. However, looking at me right now, I bet it seemed like whatever the Tokyo-based Sorcerery school was throwing my way, I was handling it pretty well. Not only had I seemingly gotten more confident in attitude and nature, but I also got stronger. My once scrawny arms gaining muscles, and the unique white Sorcerer uniform I wore enveloped my chest rather nicel--She wasn't staring! At least...That's the thought I got when she suddenly lifted her gaze back to me and blurted out random words.
Utahime: [Suddenly lifts head; Talks fast] "So how are you?!"
The sudden speedy sentence was enough to cause myself to raise an eyebrow and crack my own smile. But I didn't let it affect me for long.
(Y/n): "I'm fine. Uh, thanks?" [Chuckles Lightly] "What about you? How's Kyoto? Miwa still in love with my cousin?"
This seemed to be a topic we could both naturally discuss without anything embarrassing...Shit talking Gojo.
Utahime: "Haha. Don't get me started on that girl. I honestly don't know what she sees in that moron."
(Y/n): "Oh, tell me about it. My cousin is the type of guy to be good on the cover of a modelling magazine, but when it comes to anything normal in public, he's terrible."
Utahime: "Thank you! I feel like I'm the only one who sees that 'Mr Perfect' is a real handful!"
(Y/n): "Yeah, well, after you have to deal with him for a few years...It gets like that."
Utahime: "Ha! I bet...Oh! Shit!"
(Y/n): "Huh?"
A confused look quickly found my face at the sudden profanity. When Utahime realized herself, she quickly covered her mouth and looked away slightly.
Utahime: "Um...Sorry about that, (Y/n). It's just...I remembered about your situation. About what happened with, um...When you were taken..."
(Y/n): "Hmm? Oh! That? Pfft! Please! It was nothing..."
It wasn't nothing.
(Y/n): "I managed to handle myself.
I cried myself to sleep most nights.
(Y/n): "I could do it all over again if I wanted.
I didn't want to.
Utahime: "Oh...Um...Really? I'm sorry, (Y/n), it's just..." [Scoffs slightly] "...I'm just struggling to believe I'm talking to you right now. You seem so different. You're so--"
(Y/n): [Smiles happily] "--Less nerdy, wimpy, weak, and somehow I've managed to gather an aura about me?"
Utahime: "...Um..."
I knew she wanted to say 'yes' to most of that. But I saved Utahime the struggle on whether she should or not.
(Y/n): [Chuckles] "Don't worry about it! I know I was like that back then."
Utahime: "No. (Y/n), you shouldn't apologise for--"
(Y/n): "--But don't worry, I haven't forgotten who I am. I'm still the same guy. Just...more confident in myself. I have you to thank for that."
I think when I said that last part, that Utahime kinda broke herself in some way. She kinda just stared at me for a bit. Probably not expecting me to give her credit for something she didn't fully know herself. In the end, nothing but repeated stuttering came from my old High School teacher. However, before she could finish, she was suddenly cut off by a new arrival.
Utahime: "I--I--I...(Y/n), I--"
Maki: "Hey, (Y/n). Here you are. I was looking all over for y--"
Out of nowhere, Maki came to join me from the side. However, her sentence was cut shortly when she noticed Utahime.
Maki: "Oh...Um, sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt anything."
Utahime: [Clears Headspace] "Oh, no. That's fine. (Y/n) and I were just--"
For some reason, Utahime's sentence once again came short. Unbeknownst to me, this time around, it was because her eyes caught hold of Maki's arms wrapped around my own. Yet another thing my old teacher didn't expect to witness after seeing me for the first time in a very long time. But the momentary lapse in her thought process was soon ended. Though, noticeably, the teacher just simply lifted her gaze and smiled back at both Maki and I. Not choosing to continue her previous sentence.
Utahime: "...Um, anyway! It seems like I'm keeping you waiting, (Y/n). It was, uh...It was good to see you again. Um...Good luck in the events today!"
(Y/n): "Um...Thanks, Utahime?"
I couldn't help but add a bit of confusion into the tone of my voice as I said those words. After all, Utahime had already been acting weird. It only doubled since Maki showed up. Nevertheless, Utahime was true to her word and soon found herself walking away, leaving myself and Maki to simply look at each other in confusion from what just happened. It remained like that even as we took our own leave to meet up with the others in our designated gathering room where I'm sure everyone was preparing for what was to come our way. However, surprising or not, the Tokyo students weren't the only ones preparing for today's events. Well, preparing was one thing...For the events though?
--With the Kyoto Students In Their Designated Gathering Area--
[3rd Person POV]
Mai: "Did you see how that dweeb was acting?! Thinks he's so cool or something! Well...I don't care what my stupid sister said last time. He's still going down."
Momo: "(Y/n) was so...different. He didn't look weak at all. He had...muscles."
Mechamaru: [In Robotic Voice] "I could care very little about (Y/n)'s appearance. He hasn't changed. No matter what he's gone through."
Noritoshi: "Even so...There definitely felt like there was a different presence to him."
Miwa: "I can't believe I actually saw Gojo! Gojo is actually here! Ah! I'm going to die!"
Momo: "Miwa, we're not talking about Gojo. We're talking about (Y/n).
Miwa: "Hmm? (Y/n)? Who's tha--Oh! (Y/n)...The guy we used to go to school with? He's here? Where?"
Todo: [Silently Snickers; Thoughts] "Finally. The time has come. I can tell my teacher exactly about my improvements in winning over Takada-Chan! My dear crush! Argh! I can't wait to tell him!!!"
"ENOUGH!"
The voice of Kyoto's Principal, Old Man Yoshinobu Gakuganji, ended up being all it took to gather the attention of his students. It was in this moment that everyone turned to the corner of the room designated for the Kyoto students before the events started, that their eyes landed on their elderly principal. But no matter what ran through their minds right now, they were not expecting to hear the next words that'd come from his mouth.
Principal Yoshinobu: "...I am sure you all are still revelling in the presence of a former classmate. Normally, I would instruct you to block such things from your mind. (Y/n) (L/n) is no longer a student at our school. However...The fact in which we can't ignore has now shown its face. And after receiving orders from higher up. I am left to give you but one order. Today, forget about winning this stupid game. Instead, you have one goal, and one goal only...Kill (Y/n) (L/n)."
The feeling that was felt in the room upon hearing such a piece of news was definitely instant. The eyes of almost everyone going wide with different emotions coursing through their bodies. Sure, a lot of the people in the room either didn't care much for (Y/n), or hated his guts, but still. To hear such a decree come from the mouth of their principal...It wasn't expected.
Mai: "Wait...You want us to 'kill', (Y/n)?"
Principal Yoshinobu: "That is correct. Why? Do you wish to go against my orders?"
Mai: "...N--No, sir. I'm just wondering...Why do we have to kill that runt?"
Mechamaru: [In Robotic Voice] "I am inclined to agree. The last time we witnessed (Y/n)'s skills. He was weak. Why would such a dog need to be ended and placed as more important than winning today?"
Momo: "Yeah, I thought we came here to win?"
Principal Yoshinobu: "We came here to win. But not in this event. That has no effect on the world. But killing (Y/n) (L/n) does."
Noritoshi: "Does it have something to do with getting leverage over Gojo Satoru, sir?"
Principal Yoshinobu: "No. While the Higher-ups still wish to have Satoru as their puppet. They believe the death of his cousin is a necessity. I can not indulge you in the reasons. All I can say is after (Y/n) (L/n)'s disappearance, the Higher ups believe he has become a target for something greater."
Mai: "(Y/n)? Greater? Ha! That's pathetic. The shithead is no one important! Besides, I thought we were going to take care of Sukuna's vessel?"
Principal Yoshinobu: "Sukuna's vessel does not matter right now. But (Y/n) does."
Momo: [Mumbles] "That'd be a first."
Principal Yoshinobu: "SILENCE! I've had enough of your questions! You will do as is ordered! And not a word of this to Utahime! She would be too weak to do what matters. That's why, when the event starts, I want you all to separate (Y/n) from the herd of students and kill him. Make it look like an accident. There's no need to hold back or hesitate."
Nevertheless, even with these words, a sense of hesitation still couldn't help but be felt throughout the room. They felt uncertain, yet they didn't protest against the Principal. Well, everyone but one person anyway...
"All of you... ARE COMPLETE IDIOTS!!!"
The immediate shock came from everyone in an instant. Without a second to waste, they all turned towards the loud voice to see the cause was Todo. Their shock rising when the brute of a teenager sent his foot crashing through the door, sending the aforementioned object flying off its hinges.
Mai: [Gets in Todo's Face] "WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM?! STOP KICKING THINGS RANDOMLY!"
Todo: [Gets in Mai's Face] "I'LL KICK YOU IF YOU DON'T GET OUT OF MY FACE!"
Mai: "I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU TRY, MORON!"
Todo: "WITH PLEAS--"
Noritoshi: "Silence! Both of you!"
Mai/Todo: "Huh?"
Looking over their shoulders, both individuals found the closed eyes of Noritoshi, the high and mighty figure of the Kyoto Students, facing them.
Noritoshi: "You both should save this for later. The principal is not yet finished speaking."
Todo: "Does it look like I care, boring person?! In fact, I don't care about anything you all want! Go and face him you wish. But I've got a Walking Show to watch at 11. Takada Chan is making an appearance. Do I need to explain any more?"
Noritoshi: "You can record it. Get back here."
Todo: "Don't talk to me like I'm some dog! I will watch the recording and watch it in real-time! Like a true fan!"
Mai: "You're seriously a nerd, ya know that?"
Momo: "Yeah! A nerd!"
Todo: "I could care less for your words, woman! Now, listen you, all of you! Including you, old man! I've long been disappointed with your taste in women. But recently, I've had my eyes opened to the true reality of people's types. I've hated you all even more from that moment on. Plot and scheme all you want on your own. But if you try to order me around again... I will Bitch Slap you all back into your Mother's wombs!" [Suddenly turns to his right] "Even you Mechamaru! Don't think I'll go easy on you because you're a robot!"
Mechamaru: [Raises a finger] "You do realise I'm not actually a--"
Todo: "BITCH SLAP! BITCH SLAP YOU ALL! ESPECIALLY IF YOU FOLLOW ME!"
The loud voice of Todo was all that could be heard as the brute exited the room, leaving the students behind. However, it was as he walked away, that Todo found himself dropping his head, as a serious expression found his face.
Todo: [Thoughts] "This is bad. They're all going after my teacher. (Y/n) may have improved in getting women. But he will most certainly die if he goes up against them alone. I have to do something..."
And something he planned to do. Meanwhile, with the others, a few minutes later, the Principal also left to meet up with Utahime and the other teachers and facility in the viewing area for the event. Such left what remained of the students to grovel at the idea of what awaited them.
Miwa: "What do we do now? With Todo going crazy, it'll be up to us, right?"
Momo: "Pfft! Miwa, you're acting like killing (Y/n) is tough. Sure, he looks a little different. And has a white uniform. And a sword. But that doesn't matter. We can do it."
Mia: "Besides, Todo will just go beserk on the Tokyo students--and my bitch of a sister--if anything, he'll keep the rest distracted whilst we take care of (Y/n)."
Miwa: "Wait. So we're really going to kill the guy?" [Groans] "I don't want Gojo to hate me because I killed his cousin. That'd be the worst!"
Mechamaru: [In Robotic Voice] "There's really nothing to worry about, Miwa. (Y/n) is weak. No confidence or anything he's gathered over his time here will change that fact. The likelihood is that (Y/n) will be dead before you even touch him. If you wish...I will kill him for you."
Miwa: "Wha! You'd do that for me, Mechamaru? AAAHHH!!!"
It was with great excitement that out of nowhere Miwa jumped from her feet and wrapped her arms around the wooden robotic body of Mechamaru. It couldn't exactly be seen what reaction he had, but his body went still. That's about it. As this happened, Mai kept her gaze to the ground as she thought over what was about to happen. (Y/n) was going to die. There was no way around it. He was weak, and wouldn't last long against anyone. This was his end...So why did Mai feel hesitant about it all?
Noritoshi: "You're not getting cold on me, are you?"
Mai: [Lifts Head] "Huh? What? No. Of course not... I'm just pissed we have to be the ones to do it." [Grins] "I was hoping to get in on some action with my sister."
Noritoshi: "I'm sure you will. But our main priority is dealing with (Y/n). Tsk... Just saying his name makes me sick."
Mai: "What do you mean? You were the one who never actually bullied him when he went to our school. At least, not really."
Noritoshi: "That's because I find no use it doing it to him. He's not worth the waste of energy. I only spoke to him badly so he'd stop being a disgrace to our school. But seeing as he's still attending Jujutsu High, I've come to realise just how pathetic he is. He's bringing down our profession. Allowing a half-wit like him to be a sorcerer, to even speak the name, is a serious problem. One that goes beyond this exchange event."
Mai: [Raises eyebrow] "What are you trying to say?"
Noritoshi: "I'm not trying to say anything. I'm saying it. Point blank. That as the eldest son of the Kamo clan, I cannot overlook this disgrace any further." [Speaking to everyone] "We will all attack (Y/n) together. But when it comes to killing him..." [Slowly opens his eyes] "...I will be the one to end this disgrace of a sorcerer. Once...and for all."
It was as those words left the mouth of the still Noritoshi, that everyone looked at him in silence. But all carried different emotions. However, emotions wouldn't seem to do much in this upcoming event. One which was no longer about killing curses...But killing sorcerers. And at the head of the table...(Y/n) was the first to be served. It was once this was confirmed between the group of Kyoto students that they all took their leave from the gathering area.
Not a single word was spoken as they did so, and remained that way until they disappeared out of sight. However, what no one was expecting, was that as the group eventually went out of sight, a figure stepped out from behind a nearby corner. As they did so, that figure was revealed to be none other than the anointed one himself, Gojo Satoru. And this time around...a smile was far from crossing his lips.
--Meanwhile--
"Um...Guys? Hehe~ Um, look, I'm not complaining or anything. But, uh...Don't you think this is a little much?"
The nervous voice of Itadori silently spoke up as he held an empty photo frame in front of his face. Such was the punishment for his faked death. It was in further within this gathering room for the Tokyo-based students, that the others could be seen. Nobara and Megumi most noticeably looking annoyed at Itadori's presence. Whilst the second years just watched in silence. After all, they didn't really know Itadori that well. As for (Y/n), he kinda found himself smiling weirdly at what was going on in front of him.
Itadori: "Depending on how you look at it... this could be considered very extreme bullying."
Nobara: [Without Looking] "Shut up and stay that way for a while. I'm still upset with you."
(Y/n): [Chuckles Nervously] "Now, now, Nobara...Surely Itadori deserves a break, right? I mean...I kinda did tell you a while ago?"
Nobara: "Exactly! You had to tell me!" [Glares at Itadori] "Whilst this 'monkey' didn't say a word."
(Y/n): "I understand that, but come on. Itadori's been through a lot. Could you please forgive him for this one...For me?"
If to make his words become even more persuasive, (Y/n) made sure to offer his best innocent smile once his words were upon. Such a tactic was noticed by everyone else in the room. It was as soon as they realized what the boy was doing that they sent their gaze to Nobara. Speaking of the ginger-haired girl, when she saw (Y/n)'s smile, she found her entire body unable to move. All she could do was stare at his face, causing a loose tint of red to cross her cheeks. Fortunately for Nobara, it didn't take long for her to realise what she was doing, and immediately shifted her gaze to the ground with a scoff.
Nobara: [Scoff] "Wha...Whatever. I'm still annoyed at the loser anyway."
(Y/n): "Haha! Thanks, Nobara. You're the best!"
Instantly Nobara's eyes widened as the blush darkened. Such caused the girl to suddenly turn her body around so no one saw her like that. As for (Y/n), he seemed less focused on such, as he instead placed his attention onto Itadori, whom he turned around to offer a thumbs up towards after getting the all clear from Nobara. Looking back up at him, Itadori smiled brightly as he removed the empty picture frame from in front of his head. The two boys share an accomplished smile with one another. However, (Y/n)'s view of Itadori was almost instantly cut off by a very displeased Maki, who had immediately gotten between the two boys without a moment of hesitation. Altering (Y/n) to the face of his girlfriend...and the presence this current staredown brought with it.
(Y/n): "Uh...Maki? What's up? You look upset?"
Maki: "...No shit."
(Y/n): "No sh--Huh? What's going on?"
Maki: "Oh, nothing. Just trying to take in the fact that 'MY' boyfriend said another girl was the best. I thought I was the best, (Y/n)?"
Just to further prove her point, Maki instantly crossed her arms and turned to look the other way. This was (Y/n)'s clear sign that he had indeed screwed up in one way or another. However, before he could say anything about this, he was suddenly cut off when the door to the room suddenly burst open to let an energetic voice to enter the air.
"Heeeeere's Gojo!"
The person in question was, of course, Gojo Satoru. The white-haired, glasses-wearing, model on the side, sorcerer was quick to jump through the opened entrance and threw his arms into the air. However, instead of getting the reaction he wanted...He got this.
Panda: "Oh...Hey, Gojo."
Gojo: "He--"
Nobara: [Turns to Itadori] "Don't think for a second just because I let you take that photo frame down, that I've forgiven you completely, okay?"
Itadori: [Suddenly bows] "Yes, ma'am! I will forever be seeking your forgiveness!"
Nobara: "Hmph! That's what I thought."
Gojo: "Um--"
Megumi: [Mumbling to himself] "I swear, if I was a normal kid...I may actually enjoy life."
Inumaki: "Salmon... Salmon." [Damn right, brother... Damn right.]
Gojo: "Okay, but guys! It's Gojo! I'm here to--"
(Y/n): "--Oh, come on, Maki! I swear I didn't mean it like that. You are the best! No! You're not just the best... You're special! Yeah! My special Maki! Whose only mine...and I'm only hers."
Maki: "...Only yours? That so?"
(Y/n): "Uh, huh. Definitely. You get everything from me. No one else."
Maki: "Not... Even if Nobara were to ask you for something?"
(Y/n): "I'd tell her if my Maki didn't think it was okay. Then I wouldn't do it."
Maki: "Hmm... Okay! You're forgiven, I suppose."
A happy smile quickly found (Y/n)'s lips as he embraced his girlfriend without any hesitation. This was something Maki secretly loved a lot. However, due to her characteristics, she made herself try not to seem as if she enjoyed it as much as she truly did. But in the end, none of that really mattered for Gojo, who upon seeing all of this go down was slowly being forced to have his inner insecurities build up. Until eventually he couldn't hold them back anymore.
Gojo: "WHY DOESN'T SUKUNA WANT TO FIGHT ME?! I'M SPECIAL!"
As soon as the sudden...snap, from Gojo came about, everyone in the room finally focused in on him. Though, it did take a few minutes before he completely calmed down. But when he finally had, Gojo found himself standing in front of the group of Tokyo students. A half-drunken glass of water in one hand, and a paper bag in the other to stop the hyperventilating, Gojo now managed to find himself at ease. All the while (Y/n) and the others just stared at him as they waited for him to continue speaking.
Gojo: [Panting Slightly] "...Ah. Okay, that helps. Thanks for the water and bag, Panda."
Panda: [Offers thumbs up] "A Panda is always prepared!"
Gojo: [Chuckles lightly] "...Haha...True that..."
Nobara: "Um... You wanted to tell us something?"
Gojo: "Huh? Oh! Right! Haha! Basically...I just came to tell you guys I need one of you to drop out of the event..."
The words were quickly directed, to say the least. To the point, a few people in the room had struggled to comprehend if Gojo had actually said them. Then again, it didn't really help that as the silence built, Gojo proceeded to say nothing else, and just smiled at them all as if he was waiting for them to clue themselves in. Eventually, it got to a point where the silence got so much that Gojo himself decided to break it up.
Gojo: "...So? You guys come here often, or what?"
Nobara: "Hold up a second! What do you mean one of us has to drop out? That's not fair!"
Maki: "Yeah! We were all equally looking forward to hurting people!"
Panda: "Haha! There we are! The usual Maki has come to play!"
Maki: [Suddenly glares at Panda] "What the hell did you just say you over-stuff teddy bear?"
Panda: "Um..."
Pure panic quickly swallowed Panda's Panda face as Maki slowly clenched her eyes further. It was as this little game went down between the pair, that everyone else was left to focus on what really mattered right now. That they were being forced to lose someone for no good reason!
(Y/n): "Is there a reason why one of us has to drop out, Gojo?"
Gojo: "You know it, Babu! Apparently--" [Exadurates using fingers] "--It's not fair for our school to have an extra person. But I say that just adds charm to the event!"
Panda: [Turns back to Gojo] "Huh? We have an extra person?"
Itadori: "Who is it, Gojo? Oh!" [Smiles Brightly] "Do we have a new student?"
Nobara: [Scoffs & Mumbles] "I bet it's you, Itadori. You were 'dead' for so long people forgot about you..."
Itadori: [Emotionally] "What...?"
Maki: [Nonchalantly] "I bet it's Panda."
Panda: "What? Why Panda?"
Maki: "Probably cause the Principal finally heard back from the Zoo he's sending you to. Oh, well, nice knowing ya, I guess."
Extreme amounts of pain immediately surfaced across Panda's face as he silently stared at the back of Maki's head.
Panda: "...Ma-Maki...That hurts..."
Inumaki: "Salmon." [Emotional Damage.]
Panda: "WHA--Inumaki! You are not helping right now!"
A simple nudge came from the usually silent, yet current extreme roast master, as chaos continued to spread further around the room. Everyone was making their claim why it wasn't fair for them to lose someone. Well, everyone except Megumi and (Y/n). Megumi, of course, like usual, was left to simply drop his head in dismay, whilst (Y/n) failed to find enough room where he could enter the conversation. However, before too long, the conversation switched from 'why' it wasn't fair to have the Tokyo team lose someone, to 'who' they were going to let go. Immediately, a few names were lifted into the air.
Nobara: [Raises hand] "I vote for Itadori to be dropped."
Itadori: "What! But I just got ba--"
(Y/n): [Chuckles hesitantly] "...Haha...Come on, Nobara. Let's at least make this somewhat fai--"
Maki: [Also raises hand] "I vote for Panda."
Panda: "SON OF A PANDA! WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM WITH ME, WOMAN?!"
Maki: "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST CALL ME?!"
Panda: "YOU HEARD ME! I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF TAKING SHIT FROM YOU!"
(Y/n): "Guys! Guys! We need to relax, alright? I'm sure there is some way we can figure this ou--"
Maki: [Yelling at Panda] "YOU DON'T YELL AT ME, YA LIFESIZE BODY PILLOW!"
Panda: "WELL THIS LIFESIZED BODY PILLOW HAS HAD ENOUGH OF YOU!"
Megumi: [Sighs] "...I knew I should have gone into homeschool."
Inumaki: "...Fish Flakes. Caviar" [Everyone just needs to shut up and let me at some fuckers.]
Everyone: "WHOA!"
The sudden negative negation from Inumaki was all it took to get everyone's heads to twist rapidly as they turned to their crossed-armed friend. Even (Y/n) struggled to make a response to that sudden claim.
(Y/n): "Inumaki! Bro!"
Panda: "Dude! You swear?!"
Inumaki: "Fish fakes." [Of course, I swear, bitch. I just don't normally..."
Panda: "Haha! Why not? You're hilarious!"
Inumaki: "Tuna Mayo." [To see the reactions I'm seeing now. Duh!"
(Y/n): "Eh. Makes sense."
Panda: [Looks at you] "It also explains why he it looks like he's about to break his controller when we play game."
(Y/n): "Oh, yeah! Huh...That does explain that."
A proud smile and nod came from the boy as he agreed with his friends.
Maki: [Places hand on hip] "When the hell did you get edgy?"
Inumaki: "Spicey Cod Roe." [I've been waiting to beat the shit out of those assholes since day one of meeting (Y/n).]
(Y/n): "Whoa. What? Really? You've been wanting to do that for so long? Even when we first met?"
Inumaki: [Nudges] "Tuna Mayo." [When I was younger I played a lot of Call of Duty. People thought they could trash-talk me because I was good at the game. Little did they know I was also good at smack-talking their asses...And their mothers too.]
Panda: "Damn, son!"
(Y/n): "O-Oh...Um..."
Panda: "Inumaki..." [Silently places hand on Inumaki's shoulder] "Do not take this the wrong way, but... I think I know why God made you the way you are. You'd be too overpowered if you spoke normally."
Inumaki: "Salmon." [Yeah, I guessed as much.]
A silent nod was exchanged between the two friends before another wave of nothing entered the air. However, that didn't last long. Seconds later, Inumaki turned away from looking at Panda, to fix his gaze back on (Y/n).
Inumaki: "Tuna Tuna...Spicey Cod Roe...Tuna... Tuna Mayo...Mustard Leaf."
(Y/n): [Shocked] "...Wh--Whoa. Um... Th-Thanks, Inumaki. I, uh..." [Lowers head and smiles] "...That's really nice of you to say, man."
Now simply going off (Y/n)'s response should have been enough to tell that the cursed speech user had said something that was pretty heartfelt. Something that may have been surprising going off how he was speaking previously. But now having seen the change of expression from the faces of (Y/n), Maki, and Panda, all of which knew properly what Inumaki was saying was a clear sign he said something that was pretty special. Unfortunately, for people like Nobara and Itadori, they still struggled to understand what he was talking about.
Itadori: [Leans next to Nobara; Whispers] "Hey! Do you know what he just said?"
Nobara: [Whispers back] "No. But whatever it was... It must have been something."
Itadori: "Yeah. I got that vibe too..."
The young boy whispered back before returning to his previous position on his knees, the spot he had been in when forced to hold the picture frame. As for Nobara, she simply turned her focus to Maki. It was after a few more seconds of silence completely filling the room that the ginger began to approach the member of her fellow gender, in doing so, she continued to the whispering approach Itadori took with her moments earlier. All in hopes of not interrupting the moment.
Nobara: [Whispering] "Hey, Maki...What did Inumaki say? Maki...?"
No response came from (Y/n)'s girlfriend right away, however, as she instead found herself continuing to softly smile at the scene before her.
Nobara: "Earth to Maki? Hello?"
Maki: "H-Huh?" [Looks over her Shoulder] "Oh. Uh...Yeah?"
Nobara: "I said, what did Inumaki say?"
Maki: "Oh. He, uh..." [Smiles softly] "...He just said that (Y/n) was one of his closest friends, and that he'd do anything to defend a friend. He'd even say some fucked up shit just to piss off those who were being mean to him... At least, it was something along those lines..."
It quickly became clear to Nobara that Maki probably actually hadn't heard the whole sentence herself, seeming to be far more focused on just how happy (Y/n) seemed right now. And not only (Y/n), but everyone else. It was clear that whilst (Y/n) was happy for the friends he had now, those very friends were also happy to have him, and after everything that has happened...Such a touching moment was hard to not deal at least some damage to everyone in the room.
Even those who were more hesitant with their emotions, like Maki. In the end, Nobara decided to leave the conversation at that. Realizing she all she needed to know was now safely secured in her mind, the young girl went to return to her previous position. Of course, the emotions didn't remain this way for much longer. Then again, how could they when you're in the same room as Satoru Gojo, who was currently preoccupied...with crying?
Gojo: [Whimerping] "...Th-That...Was so beautiful...So...So touching, Inumaki...You guys are all such great friends!"
(Y/n): "...Um, Gojo?"
Gojo: [Sniffles] "Yes, Babu?"
Opening his eyes, Gojo was greeted by the sight of everyone looking at him...silently. Normally Gojo loved having all eyes on him, but right now, it wasn't for the right reason. So, of course, he didn't hesitate to quickly throw away all emotions and act as if nothing happened.
Gojo: [Coughs] "A-Anyway! Now that that's over, let me explain about this whole situation about losing someone from this side..."
Nobara: "I swear, if this is some ploy by those cocky Kyoto students! They better watch out, I'm a country girl...and we know how to take care of bitches out there...Quietly too."
It was safe to say that in this moment not only were everyone looking at Nobara...But they were also slightly terrified of her as well. Even Gojo was a little unnerved by that statement.
Gojo: "Um...Okay, then. Note to self, do not get on Nobara's bad side..."
Nobara: [Closes eyes; Nods] "You'd all be best to follow that advice."
All silently agreed on that mark.
Gojo: "Anywho, as I was saying, you all can calm down about this situation. Because it's not like one of you is just randomly dropping out for the sake of it..."
Inumaki: "...Tuna Tuna..." [...Oh, alright...]
(Y/n): "...That's good..."
Panda: "...Ha. I was worried for a moment."
Megumi: "...Whatever..."
Nobara: "Doesn't matter who goes. I'll still kick that Mai bitch...Uh, sorry, Maki."
Maki: "Meh. It's somewhat true."
Itadori: "...I'm just glad I don't have to hold that photo frame anymore!"
Maki: "...You sure we can't just pick Panda to go?"
Panda: "Makiiii! Don't be mean!"
Gojo: "Haha! Of course not, Maki! You can't just pick someone... I've already picked for you!"
"WHAT?!"
Nobara: "That's so not fair!"
Panda: "Yeah! Not fair!"
Itadori: "As long as it isn't me, I'm okay with it."
Megumi: "Whatever."
Maki: "Please tell me you picked Panda."
Panda: "MAKI!"
Gojo: [Waves hand around] "No. No. Of course not. I'd never pick Panda to be out of the crowd and put through the embarrassment of being chosen...I'm not mean."
Panda: [Sighs of relief] "Oh...Thank goodness. I'm honestly surprised by that."
(Y/n): "Ha! You're telling me, dude. When I first heard Gojo say that I started to--Oh, shit. He chose me, didn't he?"
Gojo: "I chose Babu!! Yaaay!"
"WHAT?!"
Once more the voice of the crowd flooded the room. Everyone carrying a shocked expression as they complained about this news, well...In different ways. Panda and Inumaki were annoyed by this news because they wanted to bash on (Y/n)'s old bullies together as a trio. After all, they had been practising. Itadori wanted to be on (Y/n)'s team because (Y/n) was his best friend, and best friends do everything together. After all, they had been practising at being best friends...Well, Itadori had been anyway. Then there were Nobara and Maki. They pretty much wanted to be on (Y/n)'s team for the same reason.
Basically to showcase how cool they could be when fighting. But secretly they also wanted to get some much-needed revenge on the people who bullied him. Both cared for him deeply after all. Plus...They also still had their own mini-rivalry going on. After all, they had been practising that for a while now. They were practically pros at going up against one another. And finally, there was Megumi...Who honestly just didn't care. Honestly, (Y/n) was kinda glad that Megumi didn't seem to care. After all, we all know what happens when a minor inconvenience comes this guy's way. And that's something he DIDN'T need practice on.
Maki: "This is so not fair!"
Nobara: "Why can't (Y/n) be on our side?"
Panda: "You know what those shitheads did to him, Gojo! So we should all gang up on them and kick their asses together! As friends!"
Inumaki: "Tuna Mayo." [I agree.]
Itadori: [Crosses arms] "If I'm not on Big Bro (Y/n)'s team, I'm not doing this."
Panda: "Yeah! Me too!"
Both Panda and Itadori proceeded to strike a similar pose with their crossed arms as they looked away. This caused (Y/n) to smile nervously, as he was shocked by the reaction he heard. As for (Y/n), he found himself offering a more genuine smile for once. After all, he wasn't taking (Y/n) off this team so he couldn't work with his friends. But nevertheless, seeing this group act the way they are right now...It was warming to his heart. It was as all this went down that (Y/n) struggled to say anything at of the shock he felt. Nevertheless, he still questioned why he was being taken off the team. Something that eventually brought him to turn towards his cousin. It was the mere connection of eye contact that caused the anointed one to begin speaking once more.
Gojo: "Okay. Okay. Calm down, let me explain. I know you all want to be on Babu's team, but you lot have got to understand something... That the people running this shit show are giant fucks and want to see carnage happen. And seeing as Babu is pretty darn strong, they've elected he be put on his own team."
(Y/n): "My own team...?"
Gojo: "You heard me right, Babu! Your own team! So this is how the event will take place now! It'll be...
"...The students of Tokyo vs..."
"...The students of Kyoto vs..."
"...BABU!
Gojo: "...Of course, you lot and Babu don't have to fight each other. But to make things FAIR...Babu is being forced to be on his own team. Okay?"
(Y/n): "Bu-But if I'm not with the others out there...What's if I run into--"
Gojo: "I wouldn't worry about who you run into, Babu. In fact, if anyone should be worried. It should be them. You know why?"
(Y/n): "...Why?"
Gojo: [Grins] "Because you're the Motherfuckin' Wild Card in this thing, baby! Heck! You're the wild card for more than you even know."
(Y/n): "Wait. What does that even me--"
Gojo: "Haha! You're fun, Babu! Anywho, I best be getting back to the boring people! I hope you all understand the decision that was made!"
By no surprise, there was still plenty of complaining coming from the group of students as Gojo finally ended his conversation. However, Gojo didn't give a shit. He just continued to laugh loudly as he turned around and took his leave. It was as he did so, that (Y/n) and the others were left to dwell in this news. News which would open the doorway for massive ramifications to come the way of all Jujutsu Sorcerers currently present.
******
It was once this delivery of news came from Gojo, that he was free to return to his normal basics that'd take place during the exchange event. Which was nothing more than joining all the other teachers and facility in the Surveillance room, where they would remain to watch and observe the upcoming events for anything out of the ordinary, studying, and making sure things went according to plan.
It was upon entering this room that Gojo was 'greeted' by Utahime; both principals of both schools; and a very special guest with long white hair. The identity of such a person remained unknown for this time being. But someone who didn't go unknown for long was Utahime's voice, who didn't hesitate to offer a sharp glare in the direction of Gojo as the aforementioned male took a seat right next to teacher of Kyoto.
Utahime: "Where the hell have you been?!"
Gojo: [Grins] "Don't worry, Utahime. I was only stealing the attention of your lover for but a moment."
Utahime: [Blushes] "Lover?! Wh-What the hell are you talking about, moron?!"
Gojo: [Teasingly taps chin] "Hmm...Let's see? He has (H/c) coloured hair. (E/c) coloured eyes. And he has the tendency to--"
SLAP!
Gojo was abruptly cut off by Utahime leaning out of her chair to slap him right across the face. And whilst a bright red mark was left in its place, Gojo remained unphased. As he simply tilted his head in the direction of his old friend...an old friend who was heavily blushing at this stage.
Utahime: "You're a sick monster, Gojo Satoru!"
Gojo: "Oooh. The full name. I must really be in trouble." [Grins] "Tell me, what did I do this time to deserve this firer nature of yours, Utahime?"
Utahime: "You know why, idiot! Saying stupid shit about how (Y/n)'s my...l-lover. That's disgusting! He's--"
Gojo: "--Of age. Don't worry."
Utahime: [Narrows gaze; groans] "...I was going to say, I was his teacher, idiot!"
Gojo: "Eh. I've seen worse. Besides...Who said anything about Babu?"
Utahime: "Wha--Bu--But you said--"
Gojo: "I was simply describing someone..." [Grins] "...You're the one who said his name~"
Utahime: "...Why you little--"
Gojo: "You should be golden, Utahime. Though, Babu does have a girlfriend, so you might have to compete with her for his attention."
Utahime: "I don't--"
Gojo: "Though, Maki is kinda like you. You both tend to get angry and violent very easily." [Turns back to IUtahime] "Hey! Maybe you two will get along! And not just with Babu~"
This time around it seemed like Gojo had managed to break the mind of Utahime, whose eye just repeatedly began to twitch as she tried to desperately hold herself from choking out Gojo. In the end, Utahime managed to gather enough strength that she found her seat once more.
Utahime: [Sighs] "...What were you even doing with him anyway?"
Gojo: "Oh, nothing...Just told him he's going to be doing the first event by himself."
Utahime: [Eeyes snap open] "What?!"
Gojo: "I told him he's--"
Utahime: [Turns back to Gojo] "No, I heard you, idiot! Why the hell would you do that?! (Y/n) can't do this event by himself!"
Gojo: "Yes, he can."
Utahime: "No, he can't! If he does it by himself, he'll die!"
Unbeknownst to Utahime, upon saying such a particular word, the gaze of her school principal was quick to shift over to the pairs current conversation.
Utahime: "Gojo, you're a moron, I swear! How the hell do you expect (Y/n) to survive! He's...He's no the strongest."
Gojo: "Well, duh! I'm the strongest...But I wouldn't misjudge Babu's ability, Utahime."
Utahime: "Oh, please. Don't start with that crap. I understand you want to be supportive of him. So do I...But you've also got to be realistic, Gojo. If (Y/n) goes out there by himself, he's going to get hurt. Why would you even tell him he was doing this by himself? No one told you!"
Gojo: "You're right, no one told me. But sometimes, to prove just how special someone is, telling someone isn't enough... You've also got to show them."
In that very moment, Gojo's grin and carefree nature dropped. Instead, a serious look found his face as he stared deep into the eyes of Utahime, and unbeknowstly, the souls of everyone else in this room right now.
Gojo: "When I say this, Utahime, I want you to trust me. If I was ever in trouble and needed help...I wouldn't call for anyone in this room. Nor would I ask for the higher-ups, or any other sorcerer. Even if they were incredible. But I'd ask for my cousin's help. And it's not dependent on his capabilities as a sorcerer. I'd call him...Because I know he wouldn't hesitate to come help me. So I'm not going to hesitate in trusting him. So I'd suggest to do the same... You might just get the surprise of your life."
With those very heartfelt words, Gojo turned away from Utahime and focused up on the monitor screens placed out in front of him. Meanwhile, Utahime and everyone else in this room went incredibly silent from Gojo's words. After all, they did leave quite the impact. But they weren't the only ones currently dealing with an impact. Someone else in the same boat was (Y/n), who currently found himself silently walking through the grounds of Jujutsu High. Honestly, it was something he did a lot back in Kyoto, and when he first got here. He did it as a way of helping him to get rid of all these thoughts that found themselves weighing down his head. However, when he got back from the void, he didn't really do it much.
After all, he felt like he had finally become the perfect person he had always intended to be. Unfortunately, with the arrival of his old bullies, it's started to bring him down a little. He seemed to be okay at the start. Sure, it was awkward to see the faces of the people who used to bully him. But he still found confidence in his skills now. However, that all started to take a downward spiral when he found out he would be doing this event by himself. You see, another thing that gave (Y/n) strength in this moment of trial was the belief that he'd have his friends to back him up. He wouldn't be out there alone, they'd be by his side. But if he was on his own team, that meant he was technically by himself. And last time he was by himself...It didn't exactly go great...
[Your POV]
--Present--
"One more thing though...If you ever want to actually have a life and, you know, get a girlfriend, I'd suggest dropping nerdy shit like this. It's nothing but a fantasy loser. Then again, actually, you're exactly that. A loser. So...Maybe an amazing fantasy is all you can do?"
Remembering times like that wasn't very easy for me. Often when I did, I'd feel that same lifeless emotion I carried back then for a short while. Honestly, ever since I came back from the void, there were very few moments where I'd heavily reflect on the pain I felt back then. Normally when I did, I'd feel a mixture of anger and frustration. Both at those who inflicted it, and myself. But right now I found myself struggling to feel either. Yet, despite not exactly feeling them, I found this heavy presence still washing over me. It was like the memory didn't exactly bother me to the point I felt weakened by it, but there was still something about it that I was trying to claw at.
Whatever that was, I decided to take it slow with trying to figure it out. So with that, I reached into the inner pockets of my white Jujutsu Uniform and pulled out my phone and earbuds. Not long later, the sound of uplifting, energetic music was pumping through my ears; and seeing as it was only 11:30, and we had another half an hour until everything started properly, I decided to go for a walk and hopefully find some answers to these unknown heavy feelings in my head. I didn't really have a set path, I kinda just let my feet lead me to wherever I needed to go. Eventually, however, I found myself over near the entrance of the school.
It was in this area, that underneath a roof-covered footpath, was a set of vending machines. Now, I knew probably getting something sugary before a match wasn't the best idea. But, hey. Whatever was set to happen...was gonna happen whether I liked it or not. So I might as well have some freedom going into it. At least, that was the plan. However, that sense of freedom was soon lost when I reached the very beginning of this roof-covered footpath to see that someone had the same idea as me. Standing in front of one of the vending machines, with their cheeks puffed out slightly as they looked over the drinks on display, was Miwa.
The blue-haired girl from my old school, who had a massive crush on my cousin, was someone who carried not as many painful memories as the other students, but there were still a few times I look back on in a less than fond manner. Now, to be fair. Miwa was never really bad to me. Heck, I kinda had a little crush on her before I found out she only had eyes for Gojo, but the point is, even though she wasn't really bad to me, I still found my body pausing from travelling in the direction I had planned when I saw her standing in front of the vending machines. I knew if I wanted a drink, I would have to approach her, and whilst it probably wouldn't be as bad as running into anyone else, it still felt weird to do so. I could already imagine the encounter--
The Encounter In Question...
Miwa: "Hmmm..."
(Y/n): "..."
Miwa: "...Do I know you?"
(Y/n): "Um, yeah. I'm (Y/n)..."
Miwa: "(Y/n)? (Y/n)...? (Y/n)...?"
(Y/n): [Sighs] "...I'm Gojo's cousin."
Miwa: [Gasps loudly] "Gojo?! I love Gojo! Gojo's the best! Gojo! Gojo! Gojo!"
...Yeah, something like that would probably go down. And, honestly, I really don't want to go through it. So, instead of dealing with that, I decided to just forget my idea about getting a drink and just return to walking.
"Argh! Come on, stupid thing! I gave you my money, so give me my drink!"
The voice of Miwa was filled with frustration and anger, it reminded me a lot of the people back at Kyoto. Yet again just another reason why I was turning around and walking away. However...This is when something strange happened. It was as I continued to walk away, trying my damnest to clear my mind and focus on the music, when the voice of Miwa somehow reached my ears once more.
Miwa [Silently groans] "Please, vending machine...I need something to help me calm down, okay? I'm really nervous. And not just because Gojo is here. I'm not good with meeting new people. I'm scared. I don't like fighting anyone. I just want us all to get along. So, please... Just give me my drink."
Unfortunately, even with her cries for help...It didn't affect the vending machine once. Me on the other hand, well, after hearing what Miwa had just said... I could barely find the strength to move a finger. Now, if someone were to look point blank at this moment, they'd find my reaction stupid. I mean, Miwa was complaining about not getting her drink. However, it wasn't the words that I was focused on, not entirely, anyway. Sure, it was clear by them that she was nervous, anxious for what awaited us all. I could relate to that feeling very well. But what truly affected me was how alone she was in this moment.
She was struggling, and no one was there to help. It was the same for me, when I was trapped in the void. I was alone, struggling, with no one there to help me. It was during that time that I spent a lot of my time mumbling simple nothings into the empty air of that darkened reality in hopes someone would hear it. Someone would come to save the day. But they never did. Just like with Miwa now, she was asking for help, not only with getting her drink--But also in hopes of someone coming to help make her nerves and fears go away. It was hearing, and understanding that very factor, that caused my mind to be shaken the most. And what eventually led me to do what I did next...
Miwa: [Lowers head] "...What am I saying? This is stupid. No drink is going to help me calm down. I'm just weak like that..." [Chuckles lightly] "...Oh, well, guess there's really no poi--"
"Machine steal your money...?"
Miwa: "Hu-Huh?"
Bursting from her thoughts, Miwa's head abruptly lifted, allowing her eyes to land on my own. And whilst I don't think she recognised me, I still kept myself offering the best half-hearted smile I could manage in the moment.
(Y/n): "The vending machine. Did it take your money and not give you a drink?"
Miwa: "O-Oh...Um, uh, yeah. It, uh..." [Smiles down at herself] "...Yeah, it did."
(Y/n): "Ah. Gotcha. Not really surprised on that one, this particular vending machine is a pain in the ass."
Miwa: "Oh, um... I'm sorry. I didn't--"
(Y/n): "Nah. It's fine. Here, let me help you out quickly."
I could tell Miwa wanted to say something. However, I didn't let her. Mostly because, whilst I wanted to help her, it was still awkward speaking to Miwa after all this time. So, instead, I focused on getting her drink for her. Luckily for Miwa, us Tokyo students had managed to come up with quite the little track involving these vending machines when they didn't give us what we wanted...
BANG!
The thunderous sound was loud and sudden, causing Miwa to make a funny facial expression that clearly showcased just how startled she was by my sudden action. Then again, having someone randomly just walk up to you and then suddenly punch a massive hole into the front of a fully metal vending machine isn't normally something that wouldn't shock you. So I couldn't exactly be surprised that Miwa was surprised, nor hesitate to say a single word when I began to reach my hand into the very hole such appendage had created moments ago, and turned to her for some much-needed information.
(Y/n): "...What exactly were you after?"
Miwa: "Huh?!"
She startled out the word suddenly, her eyes widening and sweat running down her face. I think...she was afraid of me now? Though, I kinda just laughed that factor off.
(Y/n): [Chuckles] "The drink. Which one were you after--You know, so I can pull it out for you?"
Miwa: "O--Oh! Um...The Bubble Soda...Please."
(Y/n): "Oh, alright! Just give me one--Argh--" [Reaches further into vending machine] "--Argh...Moment... Almost...There...Ah, ha!"
The energetic sound was quick to exit my mouth upon realizing had finally reached the designated drink in which Miwa was after. And all without even seeing what was inside! It was honestly lucky of Miwa that I was doing this--and luckily for me that this wasn't the first time I did this. So, after making sure I had indeed grabbed the right drink, I slowly began to remove my arm from the hole in the vending machine. And sure enough! There it was! One Bubble Soda! It was a strange drink. An almost fully white can with pink bubbles around the edges.
The drink inside was also pink-coloured, so you'd presume it's some bubblegum-type flavour, right? Well, the drink was actually more so flavoured like pineapple. I had only tried it once so maybe the taste had changed; or I was just really out of it that day with my tastebuds. Nevertheless, it was the drink Miwa wanted, so I did my due diligence and handed it over to her. And going off the happy face she made upon seeing it, it seemed my methods of getting her drink were worth it.
Miwa: "Wow! You actually got one!" [Looks and smiles at you] "Thank you so much! But...Oh...Won't you get in trouble?"
(Y/n): "Trouble? What for?" [Narrows gaze] "...What do you know about me?"
I was being stupid; playing along with a joke inside of my head. Something Miwa clearly didn't pick up on, but still managed to somewhat keep a smile as she awkwardly pointed past my body, to the hole in the vending machine behind me.
(Y/n): "Ooooh! That! Nah, don't worry about it. I'm, like, reeeally popular here. So it's fine."
Miwa: "Oh, you are?" [Takes a sip of her soda] "...If I'm being honest, with your clothes, I thought you were the caretaker of this school."
(Y/n): "Wha--" [Thoughts] "...Ca-Caretaker...?"
See...This is what I mean. Miwa wasn't exactly mean to me back at Kyoto. But she'd just...say things...That managed to hurt. Even if she didn't intend to do so.
(Y/n): [Chuckles Hesitantly] "Um...No. No. I'm not the caretaker...I'm actually a student here." [Thoughts] "...She really doesn't remember me, huh?"
Miwa: "Whoa! You're a student here?"
(Y/n): "Um...Yeah? Actually, Miwa, we kinda..." [Sighs] "You know what? Nevermind." [Smiles softly] "How's the drink?"
Miwa: [Smiles happily] "Hmm? Oh! It's really good. One of my favourites..." [Chuckles hesitantly] "...My Mom always used to give it to me when I was nervous. So I thought it might kinda help me now...You know?"
(Y/n): "Oh, um...You're nervous? About what?"
I'm not much of an actor, so I had to try my best in acting as if I already didn't know that. Plus, it seemed a good progression for a conversation I still wasn't entirely sure I belonged in or not.
Miwa: "Oh, um, well...I guess you could say that. I, uh...I don't really like fighting much. I mean, I know we have to fight against curses, and I'm okay with that. Even fighting those bad sorcerers. I'm all good with that, it's just... I don't like fighting people we don't necessarily have to fight...You know?"
Honestly...I did. But in this moment, I couldn't exactly tell Miwa. Not because I felt I couldn't, but because I literally couldn't! Because I found myself so shocked by what was coming from her lips that I couldn't even think properly. I never expected Miwa to be like this. I mean, during my time at Kyoto, she seemed completely different. Like, sure, she definitely wasn't the strongest person when it came to fighting, but even then, she still always seemed unaffected by things like what she was talking about now.
Then again, most of what I heard when I was there was how much she liked Gojo, so maybe I never really was around when she spoke like this. Though, now that she had seemingly forgotten who I was, she found herself being freely able to speak about such things. Which, honestly, was a little surprising. Even if she didn't know it was me, to just begin speaking about it with a stranger was something you wouldn't normally see from people. Then again...Maybe I just needed to give it time for such a reality to set in on Miwa. The beginning of which coming a few seconds later when her eyes expanded in realization.
Miwa: "Oh my gosh! I...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say all of that!" [Chuckles Nervously] "I don't even know you and yet I'm saying all this stuff that I'm sometimes too afraid to even admit to myself. I guess you're just really easy to talk to and I..." [Suddenly drops head] "...Please cut me off?"
(Y/n): "...No. No. I...I think you're right, actually."
Miwa: [Slowly lifts head] "Hmm? You do?"
(Y/n): "Yeah. I mean... Fighting is pretty easy, but I don't necessarily like fighting other people if I don't have to. Honestly, if I didn't have to fight you guys from Kyoto today, I wouldn't..."
An unconscious tilt of her head came from Miwa as I continued to process my thoughts. Thoughts that had been building up for a long time now, more than I even knew about it. It was with this realization that I found a sense of anger beginning to build up inside of me. And whereas my early memory of torture couldn't bring about that emotion in a way I needed, this did. It was this heartfelt emotion for help and longsuffering from Miwa that reminded me of just how cruel those Kyoto students were, and not just to me, but to each other. I mean it in the sense that all of them don't think about what their actions bring onto those around them.
They're all too focused on fighting without considering the ramifications from it all. There was a clear lack of comradery between them, shown by how Miwa felt like she couldn't speak this with anyone else. Sure, those from Kyoto were strong in power. But at the end of the day, the strength they truly lacked was the care and power that came with fighting alongside those around them. And it made me angry...But also happy in a way. Happy because the people in Tokyo were so much different. Sure, they were tough when I first met them. But the more you got to know them, the more you realised just how much they cared.
Some were more open than others, but they all cared. All willing to go to great lengths to help their friends. That thought in of itself also brought about anger inside of me. This time it was directed at myself. Because here I was, previous to anything, left to mope around, sad, feeling like I was alone. When I wasn't alone! All of this shit was just in my head! I had friends! A girlfriend! Teachers that were great! They all were different, sure, but they were still the best thing that had ever happened to me. And to this day, I still focus on my shitty past, when I have such a bright future. I'm even more angry at myself because I feel like I've said this before.
Yet I've continued to come back to this idea that my life revolves still in the past. But it doesn't! I'm not the person I was back then! I've changed! Yeah, I'm stronger in power, but also as a person. I'm someone who won't just let the wrong thing go on by without doing anything about it. Even if it is something as simple as a vending machine not giving you what you asked for! But on a more broad scale, I also wasn't going to let the nightmares of my bullies from the past hold me back. However...I knew simply saying this wouldn't be enough to truly move past from it all. I may not want to fight them necessarily. But I have to. If I want to move on... I have to destroy those nightmares once and for all.
(Y/n): "...But I have to."
Miwa: "Hmm? Sorry, what do you mean?"
(Y/n): "...Sorry, Miwa. I probably shouldn't have talked to you in the first place. I thought I could ignore things from the past. But I realise, if I need to do that properly... I have to show you all I've changed. That my life isn't just some fantasy..."
Miwa: "Huh?"
(Y/n): [Smiles softly] "Enjoy the drink, Miwa."
Without a second more I proceeded to turn around and took my leave. I know this left Miwa confused, but I needed to do it. There'd be a time to move on properly, but I wouldn't be able to do that until I showed my truth self to the others. I may have been easily done with Miwa, but those other Kyoto students weren't the same. They didn't care about others. They only cared about themselves. But that doesn't matter, because for once in my life, I was going to do the same. This fight that was about to happen. I'm not doing it for this school, or to embarrass the Kyoto students.
