Chapter 10 - 'Special'
[AN 18.5K WORD CHAPTER TO MAKE UP FOR THE DELAYED CHAPTER RELEASE!!!]
[Okay! So at the writing of this, Wattpad is struggling with notification issues for all sorts of things revolving around stories. I tried to release a chapter of ANTI-HERO the other day and it didn't work, so when you see this (hopefully soon) if there was a delay, it'd be because of that. Nevertheless, hopefully, you do get to see this and it's not far off from the last chapter. Because we've finally reached it, people! A big moment for this book! The first point of the reunion with the Kyoto students! In this case, Todo and Mai! It's a moment I've been waiting for, for a long time now, it's something that I feel could be a real game-changing moment in the story. Not just for the story's plotlines, but the reader's character in general. It's time he goes into another gear!]
[If this chapter reaches 285 votes in 24 hours...BRAND NEW 15K CHAPTER NEXT WEEK!!!]

[3rd Person POV]
--One Year Ago--
The bright and bountiful sun stood tall in the sky over the city of Kyoto. Below, an endless amount of cars travel through the roads as they go about their life. Though, I guess that could be said for everyone in this day and age. They wake up, get ready for the day ahead, and go to work. The hours of the day were filled with stress, love, spite, and anything else that was contained within the human emotions. But no matter what someone felt, there was always one place where people felt at ease.
Like all the problems of the day just went away. For most, this place would be the one where they spend most their time. Some would most likely call this a 'home'. But sometimes, just because you called a place 'home' didn't mean it felt like one. It was that exact thought process that flooded a young (Y/n)'s mind as his skinny and frail body was tossed to the ground for the fifth time in a row now. As his body collided with the ground, his head snapped backward as a splatter of blood burst out.
(Y/n): "Blah!"
A white void swallowed his eyes, showcasing the lifeless form that had taken over his body from yet another powerful attack. The young boy, cast in a small black Jujutsu Uniform, had as much trouble as even to block the attack that came his way. The moment made even worse as shadow-covered figures watched on from the sides. But these shadows were not curses, monsters generated from the negative emotions of the world. They were humans, just like everyone else that (Y/n) saw every day, yet sometimes, as (Y/n) was beginning to figure out. Nothing technically had to be a curse...To be considered a monster.
But (Y/n)'s mind could currently focus on nothing but the pain that surged through his body as he struggled to rise to his feet. His grazed knees and pulsating hands digging into the dirt beneath him. Hoping for something to stabilize his body. It took all of his strength to lift his body off the ground. But just when he went to lift a knee to pick himself up completely, a powerful swing from a muscular leg suddenly cut through the air. Before the strike even hit, (Y/n) could feel the impact created from the wind alone. He was simply given confirmation of the attack when the heavy foot crushed his back and pushed him to the ground once again.
(Y/n): "ARGH!"
Again, a cry escaped his mouth. This one doubled by the sheer force behind the attack he was just delt. For a moment, he just lay there. His cheer rubbing into the dirt as all strength in his body was stolen from him. Honestly, at this point, (Y/n) didn't know what was worse. The fact he was losing so badly, in front of his fellow students and his teacher; or that even after five months of being pushed around at this school, he still found himself trying to be a sorcerer? He never wanted to come to Kyoto, let alone join a Jutusu School there. But he knew this well enough already. He was only just given a reminder when the shadowed body of his opponent began to loom over his body from behind.
"Ha! Ha! Ha! Why am I not surprised I won, again! Huh? What ya got to say about that, Virgin?!"
A sharp, toothy grin made itself known through the shadows. A looming hint at the figure that waited behind the shadows. It wasn't long though, until the rest of this figure was released. The muscular man, whose chest deemed itself noticeable by sheer force alone, proceeded to lean down closer to (Y/n)'s body. In doing so, it revealed the powerful form of Aoi Todo, a second year of Kyoto Jujutsu High, and (Y/n)'s personal demon bully. The boy, Six foot and three in height, sported the top of his hair into a bun.
A noticeable scar etched across the left side of his face is prominent to anyone who first meets him. Of course, that would soon become the least of anyone's concerns, when they see just how powerful of an up-and-coming sorcerer he was. However, out of everyone, (Y/n) was the one who commonly took in the excess of Todo's power. Who often thought of the scrawny, out-of-shape, weak, eyesore of a human, boy as nothing but a ragdoll to push around?
As he just did. Like, literally. All it took was a simple push to send (Y/n) flying to the ground. What was even worse, the training match had only just started. Yet, of course, all of (Y/n)'s previous matches had caused him to also be pushed to the ground. But that's where he seemed most comfortable. Well, that's what Todo would say. That, and a phrase he commonly said to everyone he meets. But for (Y/n), he did it quite a bit too often.
Todo: "Alright. Now that you're back on the ground where you belong, (Y/n)." [Grins down at you] "Why don't you tell me what girl is your type?"
A nervous strand of sweat immediately crept down (Y/n)'s forehead as the boy smiled down anxiously. A stray swallow of a dry throat later, and (Y/n) began to mutter his response.
(Y/n): "Uh, um...W-Well, you know me, Todo--" [Chuckles Nervously] "--A-A...As long as they're a girl. Hehe..."
As soon as he finished speaking, (Y/n) shut his eyes as best as he could, before pressing his forehead into the ground. Immediate fear spawned on his face as he waited for Todo's response. Now, some may consider such a reaction from (Y/n) to be ridiculous. After all, it was just a simple question, right? Well, normally, yes. But for one, Aoi Todo, it was a question he stood his life by. And, for better or worse, the life of others.
That was most definitely the case for (Y/n). Because, out of everyone, Todo seemed to ask him it the most. But no matter what answer (Y/n) gave to his high school bully, it would never be enough to please him. Even when it was as straightforward as what he just said. But still, (Y/n) held out hope that maybe this time. Maybe just once. He'd receive a slither of luck that'd get him through this mo--
Todo: [Sighs and frowns] "I gotta say, (Y/n)...I was holding out hope."
(Y/n): "H-Huh? What do you--What do you mean?"
Todo: "I've asked you that same question for five months now. Ever since you first arrived here. I was hoping that after countless of my lessons, you'd finally truly offer the right answer to it. But at last...You have failed me again."
It was those final words that really set off the fear in (Y/n)'s eyes. They stretched as wide as they could, when sudden laughter came from the side. Instantly, his head twisted to see the familiar faces of two girls from his class, who currently found themselves laughing. But the one who drew his focus the most, was a slender girl, one with short dark green hair and a smirk that could kill. No, quite literally. Every time (Y/n) saw it he died a bit inside. Because all the time it spelt certain doom for (Y/n). And such seemed to be the exact case he was facing now. For as he looked into the smile of this girl, the heavy hand of Todo wrapped around his head tightly.
Todo: "Now, now, (Y/n). No asking for help from anyone watching. Not that they would help you anyway."
(Y/n): "Ah! C-Come on, Todo. We don't have to do this again right? Ugh-Um...B-Big boobs! I-I like girls with big boobs, and, um...Short shorts?"
"Pervert!"
(Y/n): "H-Huh?"
Immediately, his eyes drifted to the side, where three girls could be seen standing. Two of which showing faces of disgust as they called out to him. Only a girl with long blue hair gave no such look. She was too busy covering her eyes in embarrassment.
"Pervert!"
"I knew you were a freak!"
(Y/n): "What? No! G-Guys, I'm not a--I was only--"
Todo: [Chuckles] "Sorry, virgin. But it's too late for that now. Because now..." [Grins] "...I've got to remind you just what a failure you really are~"
(Y/n) knew what that meant. And if he thought what he was feeling already was pain, it was about to get ten times worse. The beginning of which brought a high-pitched groan from the boy's mouth as Todo removed his foot off the back of (Y/n) and picked his body up by the head. Todo's fingers dug deep into his skull. (Y/n) effortlessly grabbing his bully's hand, but nothing seemed to work as the onlookers continued to cheer and laugh. Well, mainly two, the two girls previously mentioned. The others just watched...In pity.
And not pity out of seeing someone bully another. But the fact that (Y/n) was so weak. It was a moment like this that (Y/n) questioned what it would be like if he stood where the others were right now. If he was powerful, what would he do in their case? Would he also laugh as Todo bullied a weak and innocent twig like himself? Or would he step in? Would he be a real hero...Or just another lonely guy. One who didn't fit in with anyone around him. Maybe...Maybe he should just give up on being a sorcerer.
"Todo! That's enough!"
Todo: "Huh?"
(Y/n): "Ah?"
Both (Y/n) and Todo turned their head toward the voice in union. In doing so, (Y/n) was given a brief glimpse of hope when his eyes landed on his teacher, Utahime. Now, Utahime could be considered kind. She was shorter lady, smaller than most boys that she taught. Though the scar that spread across her right cheek was all it took to remind anyone looking at her, that she was a sorcerer just like everyone else. But in this case, she was more of a lifeguard.
Todo: "Aw. Come on, Utahime. I'm just having fun with the virgin here."
Utahime: "I don't care! The point of this exercise is to see how well you go up against other sorcerers."
"Yeah, but for that to work, doesn't the virgin have to even be a bit of a sorcerer to contend."
Another voice quickly filled the air, enough that (Y/n)'s eyes were taken from his saviour and directed to the side. There, the girl with dark green hair could be seen as the owner of the comment. When she noticed (Y/n) was looking at her, she only smirked further. After all, that's all she seemed to do when around (Y/n). But not one that brought a sense of joy. More so dread, in (Y/n)'s case.
Utahime: "I doesn't matter whether or not (Y/n) is as strong as another to be considered a sorcerer. So, if you would kindly keep such comments to a minimum please, Mai, and let me handle this."
Mai: "Come on, Utahime. I'm just teasing him." [Turns to you] "Aren't I, (Y/n)?"
The look on her face was all it took to showcase that the girl known as Mai was not indeed just 'teasing' him. Well, she may consider it teasing, (Y/n) considered it a few other things. Thankfully though, it seemed his teacher didn't really care. Utahime quickly redirecting her previous words to Todo once more, who reluctantly put (Y/n) back to his feet before going to exit the school's courtyard where the training was being held. Of course, just as he went to leave, he 'accidentally' bumped into (Y/n) and knocked him to the ground. Another loud groan escaped his mouth as it happened.
Utahime: "Todo!"
Todo: "Oh, sorry, (Y/n). I didn't see you there. Uh...Yeah? Let's go with that."
But any such sense of the apology being sincere was immediately thrown out the window as Todo's laughing flooded the air once more. As for (Y/n), he was left to look to the ground in dismay. That was until a slender hand reached out to offer him some help. Looking up, he saw it was his teacher who was doing such.
Utahime: "Don't listen to them, (Y/n). Just...Ignore them, the best you can."
(Y/n): "Yeah, well...It's getting kind of hard to do that when you get this type of treatment every day."
A pitiful smile found (Y/n)'s lips as he looked to the ground. For five months now, ever since he first arrived at Kyoto's Jujutsu High School, he was put through the ringer in so many ways. All of which bringing his confidence down a peg. If it wasn't Todo's relentless bullying or the girl's relentless bullying...His principal's relentless bullying; it was the complete ignorance of his other students. At least the others bullied him, the others just outright ignored him. (Y/n) didn't exactly know how to feel about that. Thankfully, he had someone there on his side.
Utahime: "Don't say that, (Y/n). You may not realize it now. But there's something special about you."
(Y/n): "Huh?"
His head suddenly lifted upon hearing someone tell him he had the potential to be 'special'. That feeling he got at that very moment, grew further when his eyes landed on the soft smile of his teacher, Utahime, who always seemed to believe in him. Honestly, if it wasn't for her...He may have given up outright on life altogether.
(Y/n): "You...You think so?"
Utahime: [Smiles brightly] "Of course, I do! And it's not because of who you're related to, or what people expect. It's because at the end of the day, you are you, (Y/n). That's something only you have. It's what makes you unique. It's what makes you, you! It's what..."
[Your POV]
--Present Day--
"...Makes you special."
Those were the words that once brought me an abundance of life in a dark moment of my life. I don't really need them anymore, but back then, those words were what kept me going. Whenever I felt out of it, I would simply mutter them back, and they'd fuel me to keep going. But in this day and age, whenever I hear those words, it just reminds me of a time I wish to completely forget. To wipe from my memory. To erase off the edge of the earth, if possible.
(Y/n): [Shakes head] "Come on, (Y/n), you don't need to remember that anymore..." [Shakes head and smiles] "I mean, why would you? Your life's great! You have an amazing girlfriend. You have a girl who likes to think she's also your girlfriend. That's, like, two friends already! And that's just the girls!"
I couldn't help but smile upon just thinking of that. Even as I stood in place with my eyes closed. Now, this was something I also hadn't done in a while. But when I first started having problems at Kyoto, Utahime gave me some advice to help combat negative thoughts. Though, it was really just standing in place, closing my eyes, and picturing what I was really thankful to have in my life. Back then, they didn't really do much. Because I didn't really have anything to be thankful for. But now...There were so many thoughts that filled my mind when I closed my eyes, that even when I was trying to outright think about them, I still couldn't help it.
(Y/n): "And if we're not talking about girls, I even have some great guy friends. I mean, I got Panda and Inumaki. They're, like, some of the closest guys I know. And, sure, Inumaki isn't really much for conversations. But he's a pretty cool guy nonetheless. And Panda, well...He's a Panda. That's a conversation starter right there!"
I couldn't help but laugh to myself when I mentioned that last part, knowing full well, somewhere, Panda sneezed. And, I was given confirmation about exactly that when the sound of the cursed body sneezing came just from behind the closed door that I currently stood in front of.
(Y/n): "And not too long ago, I made more friends. Well...I guess Megumi is a friend. I don't really think he likes me that much though. But Itadori is cool! Though, everyone thinks he's dead--" [Suddenly opens eyes] "Oh...Probably shouldn't have said that out loud."
Something that quickly caused me to open my eyes and glance around the room I found myself in. Thankfully, just as before, it was empty, with no sign of anyone else but me. Then again, I shouldn't really be surprised. It wasn't really a room used for much other than getting new school uniforms from. Speaking of new uniforms, I couldn't help but bring back my smile as I glanced down at the one I just picked out.
(Y/n): "Well, they say with new clothes bring new beginnings."
That...And I needed a new one after Nobara made me give her my jacket from my old uniform because she was 'cold'. Of course, Maki didn't like that, and that led to the pair basically playing a game of tug-of-war to see who got to cuddle up to it. So, of course, like the responsible boyfriend that I am...I enjoyed the absolute fuck out of it. I even have a video to look at whenever I feel down! Though, the video did end with Maki tossing my jacket into a trash can. When I went to reach for it, she just glared at me. Before saying if she couldn't just have it, then no one could. However, that did confuse me when, in the beginning, it was mine. But I've come to learn over the years that I should never argue with Maki...Like, ever!
(Y/n): "Oh, well...I guess it was worth it in the end."
Words I couldn't help but smile further at upon remembering just how good my life was lately, to the point I sometimes question whether or not I went through so much crap in my younger years just so I could truly enjoy everything I've been given now. Well, whether or not, I'm glad I'm here nonetheless. So with this new lease on life, sparked with new clothes and a fresh smile, I lifted my head and opened the doors in front of me.
In doing so, I was able to step outside and reveal my new look to my friends. In the end, it seemed the sound of the doors opening was all it really took for everyone to look my way. The sight of Megumi, Maki, Panda, Inumaki, and Nobara all sitting out in front of the room I was in was the first thing I saw. All sitting in different spots, they all turned their heads to be greeted by my all-new, all-white, uniform.
Honestly, I felt kinda odd at first. I had never seen anyone wear a white sorcerer outfit before. But when I was searching the room for a new uniform, I found it tucked away under a few boxes. Plus, that wasn't the only thing I found! So I was more than excited to show everyone, and it seemed to be worth it once everyone got a good look of my new looks.
Panda: "(Y/n)! Your uniform looks so cool!"
Megumi: "I didn't know we had white uniforms?"
Panda: "Neither did I." [Turns back to you] "But it's so cool!"
Inumaki: "Salmon."
The trio gave their remarks. Of course, Megumi's was more so a question and Inumaki was talking about a fish, but Panda thought it was cool...So that was something.
(Y/n): "Ha! That's nothing...I even found this cool ass sword in the back too!"
Like, literally! There was just a sword lying at the back next to these clothes. And, me being the cultured male that I am, I saw a cool Katana so I did what any male would do...I picked it up, cut through the air a few times to make sure it worked, before finally coming to the obvious conclusion that it was mine now. And it seemed I wasn't the only one who was excited by the sight of a sword. As Panda, Inumaki, and even Megumi, showed some interest in the sword. I thought that was cool in its own right. Of course, things got really good once I walked down the stairs to be greeted by an approaching Maki. A playful grin spread across her lips as she reached me, choosing to place her hands onto the crop of my uniform as she looked up at me.
Maki: "Well, I think you look pretty hot~"
(Y/n): [Smirks] "Oh, yeah? Well then...I guess we perfectly match now, huh?"
For a brief moment, we just remained there, looking into each other's eyes, our smirks perfectly matching. Our focus just seemed to be on each other, when out of nowhere...
"I gotta say, (Y/n), you clean up quite nice in white~"
(Y/n): "Hmm?"
Immediately my eyes widened, a blush creeping onto my face when I felt a soft weight press up against the side of my right arm. Though, I didn't need to know who, and what, was touching me. As the simple glare on Maki's face was all it took to know that Nobara was now hugging my arm into her chest.
Nobara: "Though, I'm sure you look good in other things as well." [Looks up at you] "Oh! We should go clothes shopping sometime?"
(Y/n): "Y-Yeah? Um, s-sure, but I'll have to check with Mak--"
Though, of course, before I could even mention her name, Maki had interjected herself into the conversation already.
Maki: [To Nobara] "What do you think you're doing?"
Nobara: "What do you mean?"
Maki: "I mean...Why are you hugging my boyfriend?!"
Nobara: "I don't understand your concern. Hugging is a way you show you care for someone."
Maki: "Yeah! But you don't just do it with other people's boyfriends!"
Nobara: "Well, then..." [Playfully grins] "...I guess it's a good thing (Y/n)'s my boyfriend too now~"
At that exact moment, it looked like Maki's brain was about to explode. Of course, this just led Nobara to grin as she hugged my arm closer.
Maki: "H-He...Is not...Your boyfriend."
Nobara: "Really? Because last time I checked...I went on a date with him~"
Maki: "You didn't go on a--" [Breaths in and out] "You...Had a pathetic 'date' with him because you won a stupid bet. It doesn't mean you are his girlfriend now. Because I am!"
Nobara: "I don't know about that. Because going off how (Y/n) hasn't moved his arm since I started hugging him, I'm going to say he likes the idea of me being his girlfriend, too." [Looks up at you] "Right, (Y--"
Of course, when Nobara finally looked up at me, her entire face went pale with fear and shock. Her eyes spreading as wide as they could. Something Maki immediately saw and began laughing at.
Maki: "Hahaha! Look at your face! Haha! Wha-What? Did you finally realize that (Y/n) doesn't like you?" [Continues to laugh] "Haha! Good one, (Y--"
Though, Maki's laughter was almost instantly cut off when she joined Nobara into looking up at me. But, when she did so, Maki's own face went pale with fear. And all because, right now, neither girl was talking to me. Instead, they were talking to a mannequin that wore identical versions of my clothes. As for the real me, I was safely sitting on the stone stairs with Panda and Inumaki about five meters away.
Panda: "Haha! I didn't know you had a cursed technique that did that, (Y/n)?"
(Y/n): "Yeah. I found out about it the other day."
A quick fist bump was exchanged with Panda, as we both found my latest cursed technique to be quite the fun time. Of course, when I turned my smiling expression back to the girls, I realized they did not think it was so fun. The pair managing to find a momentary truce to stomp their way over to me, grabbing me by the arms and picking me up off the stone stairs, and proceeded to drag me over to a nearby tree. Where I now sat, with both Maki and Nobara positioned on either side. Though the saving grace was...I still had my sword! I happily glanced over it with a smile. However, it seemed I wasn't the only one intrigued by the sword, as seeing such a weapon brought out a thought within the mind of Megumi.
Megumi: "Oh, Zen'in Senpai, I have a question."
Maki: [Looks at Megumi] "Huh? What is it?"
Megumi: "You were mentioning cursed tools earlier for the exchange event. I agree with supplementing my close combat with weapons, but with my cursed technique, I want to be able to free up both my hands at any time. With swords, you lose time sheathing them. But you normally carry two at a time, right?"
Maki: "Most of the time. Yeah?"
Megumi: "How do you do that?"
Maki: "I used to make (Y/n) carry them."
Megumi: "Huh?"
Maki: [Smiles up at you] "Isn't that right, babe?"
(Y/n): "Uh...Huh."
My blank expression showcased how much I 'enjoyed' my old job. Thankfully, it was an old job...
(Y/n): [To Megumi] "It wasn't very fun."
Megumi: "Why don't you do it anymore?"
(Y/n): "Oh, well, I got upgraded since I became strong. I now carrying...No weapons."
Megumi: "Oh...I see."
Maki: "Yeah, I mean, I thought it was kind of pointless to have someone who could fight just hold my weapons. Before it was okay, because (Y/n) was weak--"
(Y/n): "Ouch."
Maki: "But he's strong now, and I need him to pull his own weight, so, yeah."
(Y/n): "Ouch again."
Megumi: [To Maki] "So how do you carry them now?"
Maki: "...I make Panda do it."
Without a fault on her face, Maki nonchalantly points to the aforementioned Panda, who bounces to his feet and begins flexing. As for me, I was just left in my own little world.
(Y/n): "I mean, would I like it if I didn't carry things anymore was because we're dating and you love me, and not the fact that I'm super awesome now and you feel it'd be better for me to fight, sure. But this is fine, I guess..."
Without looking, Maki simply proceeded to pat me atop the head as I simply accepted my position as her Over Powered Ex-weapon carrier, slash, booty call. But it's fine...I'm fine...So fine...
Megumi: [Looking at you] "...I shouldn't have asked part two."
Thankfully, I wasn't completely ignored in the matter. For as Megumi, Maki, and Panda continued talking about cursed tools, I had Nobara hugging my other arm in comfort.
Nobara: "It's okay, (Y/n). I'd never let you carry my weapons for me."
(Y/n): "Uh? Didn't you make me carry your shopping bags the other day?"
Nobara: "Well, yeah...But isn't that every guy's dream?"
(Y/n): "What? A butler? Nah, not really."
Nobara: "Not a butler, you dork. I mean...Doing things a girl wants."
(Y/n): "Why would we do that?"
Nobara: "Because...Guys like making girls they like happy, right?"
(Y/n): "Sure. We like making girls we care about happy."
Nobara: "And you like making those girls you care about happy, right?"
(Y/n): "I do. But that's mainly because I don't like angry Maki."
"Hey. I heard that."
(Y/n): [To Nobara] "See? Guys gotta be careful."
Nobara: "Alright. Whatever. Point is, guys like making girls happy--"
(Y/n): "--So they don't randomly yell at us later on when we're doing our own thing." [Turns head] "Ain't that right, Panda?"
Panda: "Yes, sir!"
(Y/n): "See!"
A large smile quickly found my face as I turned back to Nobara, who just looked up at me like I was crazy. It was that exact look that remained on her face fifteen minutes later, where our merry little band of Jujutsu Students found ourselves standing next to the row of vending machines that was located near the Cafeteria. Currently, Panda and Inumaki were occupied with what to pick from the four machines lined up next to each other, whilst Maki watched them, and Megumi stood near the back like the silent cool kid he was. All the while, I was still stuck on the same conversation with Nobara. Who seemed quite surprised that boys genuinely didn't like doing things for girls, like carrying their shopping bags.
Nobara: "I still don't get it! Guys really don't like doing things for girls?"
(Y/n): "Well, some do. But if its things like carrying shopping bags, and we're the only ones holding something whilst the girl just walks ahead, then we don't."
Nobara: "Then why don't you say anything?"
(Y/n): "Either we're too afraid, love-struck, or confused and unsure what the slightest movement could cause for us."
Nobara: "But that doesn't make sense. I had plenty of boys ask to carry my things in junior high."
(Y/n): "And out of all of them, did any exact one stand out? Or did they all look the same?"
Nobara: "...I don't know. I mean, it happened every day. I just got used to it. I thought they liked doing it."
(Y/n): "Yeah...Those people are probably dead now."
Nobara: "What?!"
(Y/n): [Chuckles] "I mean, they were probably only doing it to grab your attention. That's why they did it."
Nobara: "Oh..." [Looks up at you] "So what about you?"
(Y/n): "What about me?"
I asked as I looked down at Nobara. As I did, Maki silently approached from the side.
Maki: "Hey."
(Y/n): [To Maki] "Yeah?"
Nobara: [To You] "Did you ever do anything like that for Maki?"
Maki: [To you] "I need money for a drink."
(Y/n): [To Maki] "Alright. Hold on." [Turns to Nobara] "I mean, not really."
Nobara couldn't help but tilt her head upon hearing my response, as she did, I reached into my pocket and retrieved a few loose coins for Maki.
Nobara: "Really? You didn't do anything like that for her?"
(Y/n): [To Nobara] "I mean, not entirely. Oh! Well-- Wait. Hold on." [Turns to Maki] "Here ya go. That's all I had."
Maki: [Smiles] "Thanks, (Y/n)."
(Y/n): "Anytime."
Maki proceeded to place a quick kiss on my cheek before walking away, as I kept my gaze on Nobara.
(Y/n): "Sorry, what were we talking about? Oh, right! Holding stuff for Maki. I mean...I didn't exactly do it out of wanting to get her attention more so than not wanting to get yelled at by her."
Nobara: "Oh. But what about now that you're dating?"
(Y/n): "Oh, yeah. I hold stuff for her now. But Maki's not really much for shopping to the extreme. We normally both just get stuff, and if we need the other to hold something, we just do."
Nobara: "Really?"
(Y/n): "Pretty much."
Nobara: "Huh...I guess my ideas of relationships were a little different."
(Y/n): "What do you mean? Have all your past relationships been like that?"
Now, whilst some may think hearing that would be a rather twisted type of relationship to have, I didn't exactly what to judge Nobara completely. Little did I know of the completely out-of-left-field answer that I was about to receive. Something that I was only given a brief warning to when Nobara struggled to make eye contact with me as a blush grew on her cheeks.
Nobara: "Um..." [Chuckles nervously] "About that..."
(Y/n): [Tilts head] "Hmm?"
Nobara: "I, um...I may have...kinda...never..." [Mutters] "...Had a boyfriend before."
The final words came so quick, and so muttered, that I almost didn't hear what was being said in the first place. But thankfully I managed to grab enough of it that I was able to splice the rest together. When I finally did realize what she had said, it became known rather quickly. All thanks to the suddenly shocked look on my face as I looked back down at Nobara.
(Y/n): "You've never had a boyfri--"
Nobara: "Sssh! Sssh! Sssh!"
(Y/n): "Huh?"
Nobara: "Don't say it so loud!" [Leans in and whispers] "I don't want people to know."
(Y/n): "Oh...But why?"
I could tell that Nobara didn't even really want to talk about it with me, going off how she could barely look me in the eyes. Now, at first, I found it a bit silly. Not only the fact that Nobara has presumably never had a boyfriend before; I mean, add in her personality and appearance, I thought she would have at least had a few. But also that she didn't exactly what people to hear about it.
That was until I remembered my earlier years of pain and suffering that came with the teasing about how I never got with a girl. A type of subject that all my lifelong bullies tended to bring up. So, I guess in a way I could understand why Nobara wouldn't want to talk about it. I wasn't going to bring up any more. But to my surprise, Nobara seemed to choose the exact opposite.
Nobara: "I...I just--" [Looks around nervously] "--I just haven't met the right guy before. Like, I've met guys that are attractive. But that's all they've really been. And I've seen girls who just go for people with looks, and despite how I may seem...I didn't want that."
(Y/n): "Oh..."
I tried to make that sound as least surprising as I possibly could. But I was quite surprised from hearing this. However, the sense of innocence behind Nobara's words made it more accepting, and allowed me to properly listen to what she was trying to say. Add in the fact she was even saying it to me, and I couldn't help but find myself happy to be trusted with such a subject she clearly didn't want floating around.
Nobara: "I know it sounds stupid, but when I was young, I saw how those type of girls could treat people. They were the type of people who forced Saori to leave town...And I never want to be like them."
(Y/n): "O-Oh..."
It was that sentence right there that truly set in how serious Nobara was about what she was saying. The simple mention of her childhood friend, one she had told me about in a moment that truly defined our friendship, was all I needed to hear to completely shift my mind's focus and take it seriously. I could tell by the look on her face that Nobara didn't know what to say next, so I decided to take that hassle from her. In doing so, I slowly reached out my hand, placing it onto her shoulder, and smiled at her. When Nobara realized all of this, she finally returned her gaze to me, a look of surprise accompanying it.
(Y/n): "Well..." [Smiles softly] "I'm glad to say, Nobara, that you have nothing to fear revolving around that regard."
Nobara: [Blushing] "...H-Huh?"
(Y/n): "You're nothing like those girls you mentioned. I mean, just from knowing you, I realize how lucky I am to have a friend like you. Sure, you can be stern and straightforward sometimes, but I know you really care about the people close to you. And no matter what, you'll always be there for them. I know that for a fact."
Nobara: "You...Y-You do?"
(Y/n): "Yeah. And, you know, not having a boyfriend before isn't a bad thing. I mean, I know it doesn't really match up to you, because you're pretty and I'm just me, b-but I went up until the age of eighteen before I got a girlfriend. So, um...Don't hold yourself down, okay? Because...I-I wouldn't want to see someone like you sad...You deserve better than that."
As my words came to an end, the surrounding world around us slowly went silent. Even with the energised Panda who was currently fueled up on energy drinks, and the Inumaki who was desperately trying to stop his friend from drinking more, the tired expression of Megumi and the death stare from Maki focused on me, all seemed to be shoved to the back as I looked down at Nobara and she looked back up at me.
No words were spoken further from this point, but they didn't need too. Right now, I just wanted to make sure my friend was feeling okay, and that she didn't need to worry about anything foolish like not having a boyfriend before. It was as this continued, that Nobara found herself smiling. A notion that seemed to confirm that my words had some effect. You know who else's words had an effect on me? Maki's...Whose words came directly my way as she glared up at me.
Maki: "What's going on here?"
Those words were enough to suddenly snap both Nobara and I back to reality. My body instantly froze in place as my eyes widened. The only part of me that could move, was my head. Which slowly turned ever so slightly until it finally allowed my eyes to land on the narrowed frightening, yet also incredibly attractive, gaze of my dearest girlfriend.
Maki: "What are you doing, (Y/n)? Having fun?"
(Y/n): "Uh-Uh-Uh...H-Heyyyy girlfriend? What's u--"
Maki: [Crosses arms] "Cut to the chase, (Y/n), before I cut you. Why's your hand on Nobara's shoulder? You like her now?"
(Y/n): "What?"
My eyes snapped to my hand that was still placed on Nobara's shoulder.
(Y/n): "What?"
Quickly it snapped to Nobara, who was now blushing even more, her head facing the ground slightly as a nervous smile found her lips.
(Y/n): "What?!"
All before finally shifting back to Maki, where I was greeted by the blank expression of my dear girlfriend that made me completely understand that I was in the doghouse tonight if I didn't save my ass quickly. And going off how Maki tilted her head and began tapping her for repeatedly, I realized I didn't have much time.
(Y/n): "I-I was, um...I was...I was just--"
"He was just breaking it easy for me."
(Y/n): "What?"
Maki: "Huh?"
Those were the two sounds that came from behind the lips of Maki and I, as we both immediately shifted our heads to the middle ground between the two of us to have our eyes land on the gentle face of Nobara. Who now looked up at me with a look in her eyes that showcased a set of emotions I wouldn't come to understand just yet. Before I could focus on them anymore, Nobara quickly turned to Maki.
Nobara: [To Maki] "He just made me realize how lucky you are to have him as a boyfriend, and that I'll have to wait a little bit longer to find someone like him."
Maki: "...Oh?"
The prolonged response was enough to reveal Maki's confusion, clearly, she didn't expect that as a response. And, honestly, I'd be right there with her. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. When my eyes finally reconnected with Nobara's, she once more smiled up at me. I wanted to ask what she meant. But in the moment, I began thinking if doing that would only make whatever she was feeling worse. But still, it didn't stop the wave of thoughts that suddenly flooded my mind to go any easier on me. It was just as this happened, with the three of us pulled into a bond of silence, as Megumi, Panda, and Inumaki stood around us doing their own things, that a familiar voice suddenly filled the air. A voice...I didn't expect to hear for a little while more.
"Well, well, well~ What do we have here? A fun gathering of the students who we're going to beat in the exchange event?"
Nobara: "Huh?"
The words were enough to break every single bit of concentration from us all. In union, every single student present from Tokyo's Jujutsu High turned around to face in the direction opposite the entrance of the Cafeteria, to come face to face with the toned and eagle-eyed expressions of Aoi Todo and Mai Zen'in. Two students from Kyoto's Jujutsu High, but for me personally...They were my worst nightmare come back to haunt me.
[3rd Person POV]
--One Year Ago--
The gentle breeze of a peaceful afternoon softly blows through the air of a cold Kyoto landscape. Now, it wasn't cold to the point that it was freezing, however, it was cool enough to the point that no one would be blamed for wearing an extra pair of clothes. One such person who could be seen doing exactly that was none other than (Y/n) (L/n), who currently found himself seated at a stoned table in the courtyard of Kyoto's Jujutsu High courtyard. There the young boy carried a gentle smile as he effortlessly flicked through the pages of a booklet for the latest Lego set he had purchased. And honestly, it was the exact thing he needed right now.
After spending four months at this school, the efforts of getting through every day when you had to deal with a variety of bullying from his classmates wasn't becoming any easier. It ended up bringing a lot of pressure and self-doubt onto (Y/n)'s young mind. So, what else was the perfect thing to relax his worries than building a simple Lego set? Something he had done ever since he was a little kid to help calm himself whenever he was nervous or fearful. Even the journey to the store to purchase the item was a joy in itself. He had managed to gather up some money his Mom had sent him and decided to treat himself to something to help ease the pain of his troublesome school days.
And now, he was in the middle of putting a large Lego dragon together. He had already finished with the main base of the creature, and was enjoying the process of putting the wings together when out of nowhere his body froze in place. It all came about suddenly when he felt a pair of hands gently place themselves on the area of his arms where muscles would normally be. Before he could properly focus, his mind went completely blank when he felt the person behind him slowly push their chest into his back. A pair of soft bumps continued to push into his back as the sensation of warm breathing brushed against his left ear. It wasn't long until a familiar voice echoed past a set of lips.
"Mmm~ So this is where you got to~"
The fingers that dug into his arms continued to press further as a pair of teeth reached out and gently nibbled at his earlobe. The feeling was...odd...to say the least. But that odd feeling, quickly was flooded with a strange world of hormones when the person from behind slowly stepped out to reveal the sinter smirk of one, Mai Zen'in. Someone (Y/n) would later come to know as Maki's younger twin sister.
Now, whereas later on (Y/n) would have a romantic relationship with Maki, earlier on in his life before he ventured to Tokyo, he was often regarded as the plaything for the flirty Mai. But it wasn't just simple flirting. It was basically (Y/n) being endlessly teased by the far superior Mai, before the aforementioned female would shift that teasing into straight out bullying. It was a process (Y/n) had to go through for months now. And even now, it wasn't any easier.
"Well, well, well~ What do we have here? Little (Y/n) seated all alone once more? Now that's not fun, is it?"
Yet, despite the playful tone, (Y/n) found himself feeling anything but at ease. Something that only grew seconds later, as a pair of slender legs crept through the gaps between the stone table to sit opposite the nervous young boy. Lifting his head, (Y/n) was greeted by the full smirk of Mai. Like always, she carried a grin that showcased she was completely in control of the moment. Mai knew it. (Y/n) knew it. Yet, it made nothing change from the rest of the process. As (Y/n) was simply left to stay as still as possible as Mai continued to grin toward the boy in front of her.
(Y/n): "Uh, h-hey Mai. Um...What's up?"
Mai: "Oh. Nothing. I was just in the area and I saw you were sitting here alone...again...Like always. So I thought I'd come and check on my dear friend!"
Such words did not bring about any comfort from within the mind of the young boy, who cautiously lifted his gaze momentarily.
(Y/n): "Oh. Um...O-Okay."
His eyes quickly ducked when they landed on Mai's own. If there was something (Y/n) came to understand over the few months he'd been here, it was the simple smirk of the Zen'in girl was all it took to make his mind crumble. Mai knew such, and she enjoyed that power over (Y/n). It was with this very power that she held back nothing as she reached across the table and suddenly scooped up the instruction booklet to (Y/n)'s Lego set.
Mai: "Oh! What do we have here?"
(Y/n): "Ah! D-Don't touch tha--"
Mai: "Huh? Don't touch it?" [Randomly scrolls through pages] "But I won't ruin anything, (Y/n)."
(Y/n): "I-I know, but..."
He just wanted Mai to put it back down. He knew the fake innocent look she offered him was nothing but a lie. Yet, the lack of strength and confidence within his spirit stopped him from doing anything. All he could do was slowly drop his hands and watch in silence as Mai further flicked through the pages of the instruction booklet. The seconds felt like an eternity to (Y/n), who just wanted to be left alone to enjoy building some Lego.
It was something that brought him peace when he needed it as a kid, and something that he definitely needed now. Yet, Mai showed no sign of slowing down. She just continued to flick through the pages, making slight noises of acknowledgement as if she truly found anything in front of her interesting. But (Y/n) knew otherwise, and before long, he was given the kick in the gut he knew was coming from the beginning.
Mai: "How old are you again, (Y/n)?"
(Y/n): "Um...S-Sixteen? Why?"
Mai: "Oh, no reason. I'm just looking through this and wondering when you were going to grow up." [Turns to you and smiles] "I mean, these are for little kids, right?"
(Y/n) wanted to correct her. He wanted to tell her that actually, Lego was for all ages. And that, in fact, the set he chose was actually for sixteen years and up, meaning only people sixteen years and older could build it. But like every other time he was put in a position like this, all he could do was drop his head in silence. Thus, unfortunately, giving Mai the win in the current moment.
Mai: "Mmm. That's what I thought..." [Flicks through more pages] "You know, instead of playing with toys, you could be playing with girls." [Glances at you] "Maybe then Todo would stop bullying you?"
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "And what about the rest of you?" [Out Loud] "Y-Yeah, well...I kinda do my bets to ignore Todo and his antics. Besides...I haven't met the right girl yet."
It seemed as soon as Mai heard that, her eyes snapped up. The sudden movement was all it took for (Y/n) to quickly drop his head. In doing so, he was unable to see the following few seconds that showcased the seemingly surprised expression of Mai. It remained for a short while more before she returned to her calm, grinning, expression.
Mai: "Oh, yeah? That so...Well, can't say I'm really surprised."
(Y/n): [Slowly lifts head] "H-Huh?"
Mai: "I mean, you're from the Gojo clan, right? You're literally related to Satoru Gojo. That should, at least, get you boned by some desperate sorceress. Miwa seems to be a pretty big fan of his..." [Mutters] "Maybe a bit too much, if you ask me."
(Y/n): [Blushing] "U-Um...Well, I-I'm not exactly sure I-I--"
Mai: "You're right. Even with you being a Gojo, you're still not exactly a 'Gojo' though, are you?"
It was those very words that stuck out the most. It was now the time of the process where Mai's teasing turned to the outright bullying part. Her sharp gaze didn't shadow this once.
Mai: "Like, you've got the family name, you're related to the strongest Sorcerer ever, heck, even your Mom is pretty strong. Yet you, you're just..."
"...Not very special, are you?"
Those words were like a sharp dagger that pierced (Y/n) through the chest. The very pain was enough to cause his head to drop immediately. And with each passing second, the pain only grew. The words of Mai repeated themselves over and over again. But just when they seemed to be winning, (Y/n) remembered the words of Utahime.
"At the end of the day, you are you, (Y/n). That's something only you have. It's what makes you unique. It's what makes you, you!"
It was weird. His entire life, (Y/n) had struggled to properly shun away the thoughts and opinions of others. He tried so desperately to do so. To ignore them. To not pay them any mind. But one way or another, their words would seep into his spirit and claw him down. Yet, as he repeated the words of his teacher, someone who seemed to genuinely believe in him, for once, (Y/n) found himself believing what she said. He found himself being lifted up, instead of down. The very words his teacher spoke to him enough to fight against the words, and grin, of Mai.
(Y/n): "You're right, Mai. I'm not like Gojo, or my Mom..."
Mai: "Ha! Only just realized that now, huh, (Y/n)?"
(Y/n): "...No. I've known that for a while. It's only now I've decided to not be like them...But me like me. Because at the end of the day, I'm me. And I'm unlike anyone else."
Mai: "Your point being?"
(Y/n): "My point is, I may not be as strong as Todo, or as confident as you....B-But...But I'm me. And it's up to me to show everyone just how special I can be."
Now, despite saying these words with a straight face, inside, (Y/n)'s body was shaking. This was his first attempt at standing up for himself. And whilst his words would not become true until a year later. At this moment in time, (Y/n) believed this to be a turning point in his life. Where he'd finally step up for himself, and all because he got some words that helped push him past the fears in his gut. Little did he know of the events that would await him. As for Mai, she didn't exactly like this side of (Y/n). She liked the pathetic side that'd simply take her shit with a smile on his face. She didn't like that he was talking back to her. And she wanted to make that known.
Mai: [Grins] "Well, then...If that's what you really think, (Y/n)...I guess there's nothing else I can do for you."
With her grin remaining, Mai got to her feet. (Y/n)'s eyes slowly followed her, trying his best to maintain his confidence. But it was given a brief splinter when Mai, still holding onto his instruction booklet for his lego, simply walked passed him and continued walking. (Y/n) turned around, about to ask for the booklet back, when Mai finally let it go...From her hand...and into a nearby fountain, she walked passed. The paper booklet was immediately soaked with water as (Y/n) watched on in shock. As for Mai, her grin dropped as she kept walking away.
Mai: "Have fun with your legos, virgin."
--Present--
The memories of that moment slowly came to an end as (Y/n)'s eyes took back the sight before him. The lingering gazes of both Aoi Todo and Mai Zen'in, who stood in front of the shocked and confused students, of Tokyo's Jujutsu High.
Mai: "Well, well, well~ What do we have here? A fun gathering of the students who we're going to beat in the exchange event?"
Mai's smirk, just like years past, carried the same confidence that made (Y/n)'s body freeze. The young girl, decked in a Jujutsu Uniform that seemed more like a black summer dress. One that had a section on the side cut to reveal one of her slender legs. Even so, it only added to the elegant figure that stood with complete composure, as the brute beside her, Todo, examined the faces in front of him. As for the Tokyo students, they did their own examination of the pair in front of them. That was until Maki stepped forward, finally choosing to address her family.
Maki: "What are you doing here, Mai? Is Kyoto really that boring?"
Nobara: "Huh? You know her?"
Maki: "She's my sister..."
Maki said without looking. The blank expression on her face all she had to offer. Choosing to ignore the surprised look on Nobara's face at the time.
Mai: "Don't say it in such a displeased way, Maki. I'll begin to think you don't want me here."
Maki: "I don't."
The words were blunt and without any emotion, yet another thing that shocked Nobara. Yet Nobara was pulled back into the moment when Mai suddenly addressed her.
Mai: "You don't have to worry about my mean older sister, Ginger. You can just call me Mai."
Maki: "Please. I'd rather they call you--"
"Enough of this."
Out of nowhere, Maki was silenced by a still, yet demanding male voice. It was enough to make (Y/n) flinch in place slightly, something Panda took notice of instantly. Upon turning to his friend, the cursed corpse was greeted by the sight of (Y/n)'s lower hand shaking slightly. As for everyone else, they focused in on the source of the voice, that being none other than Todo, who didn't hide the begrudging look on his face as he glanced through the crowd before him.
Todo: "So these are supposed to be the pinch hitters for the third years at this school?"
Again, (Y/n)'s hand twitched at the voice of Todo, flashbacks and memories of being thrown to the ground, amongst other things, flooding his mind suddenly.
Mai: [Grins] "To answer your question, Maki, we came here with the principal. But this isn't a family visit, I'm afraid. In fact, we actually came for a special reason. Because we heard a familiar face was here."
Immediately, (Y/n)'s eyes stormed open. And even though he was currently standing behind Maki and Nobara in the distance, thus having his face blocked from Mai and Todo, he still felt as if the lingering gaze of his old school bullies was focused directly onto him. And for good reason, as it was in this very moment that the smirk of Mai and even Todo grew a little.
Mai: "Because we heard that after everything that went on at our school, an old friend managed to run away over here. Apparently, he even died! Haha! How pathetic is that?!"
Todo: "What's even more surprising is that we heard he was alive. Which I certainly hope is true, because I've been waiting a long time to see him again..." [Yells out] "SO WHERE ARE YOU AT, VIRGIN?! COME ON OUT! HA! HA!"
Now it was confirmed, chills immediately ran down (Y/n)'s spine. The young boy's body uncontrollably twisting around in place so his back was now turned. An extra layer of protection, something that caused Panda to grow even more concerned, along with the others. Though for some, there was still a question of doubt over who they were talking about.
Nobara: [Steps forward] "Alright, I don't know who either one of you are, and honestly, I don't care. But I don't exactly like hearing people scream this early in the day, okay?"
Todo: "Huh?!"
Mai: [To Nobara] "Oh, relax dear, don't stress too much. Wouldn't want your face to wrinkle more~ We're just here to see an old friend."
Nobara: "What'd you just say, bitch?"
Nobara went to step further, clearly angered by the comment from Mai, but she was stopped from going any further by a simple arm stretched out by the other Zen'in twin. Maki, still keeping her face straight, kept her eyes on her sister as she stopped Nobara from doing anything else.
Maki: "Just forget about what you came here for, Mai. Wait for the exchange event like everyone else before you want to run your mouth."
Mai: "Oh, Maki. Don't play dumb. You know who I'm talking about. It honestly has nothing to do with you."
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "Please don't say it."
Mai: "Because I'm not here to see you."
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "Please don't say it."
Mai: "As I said, I'm here to see an old friend."
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "Please don't say it."
Mai: "And old friend, who just so happens to be exactly what Todo mentioned him as."
Todo: "So why don't you come out already and show us all just how special you are, virgin!"
Mai: "--or would you rather me use the less fun name (--"
"Fine! I'm here!"
Now it was the Kyoto's students turn to be interrupted by a male voice. It was all they needed to smile abruptly, glad to finally witness the pathetic sight of their former classmate. However, looks of surprise look found the faces of not only Mai and Todo, but the Tokyo students as well, when, instead of (Y/n) stepping forward, it was none other than Panda who made his presence known. The cursed corpse standing tall with a smirk on his face and his arms crossed as he stood right in front of (Y/n). Something (Y/n) himself realized when he hesitantly looked over his shoulder.
Todo: "Huh?"
Mai: "A Panda? What's...What's going on?"
Panda: [Smirks] "What's going on is--I'm Here!"
Mai: "Wha...What?!"
Todo: "We didn't ask for you."
Panda: "You asked for a virgin, right? And seeing as I have no interest in human women, as I find them boring and not my type; and unfortunately, I have not met the right Panda to call my own, I am but a virgin, so...I am here. Proudly!"
Even with such words being spoken, Panda kept his smirk and pride intact. Even as Maki, Nobara, and Megumi looked at him in confusion. But Panda didn't falter. The only time he broke this character was when, through the confusion, he carefully turned his head slightly and whispered to (Y/n).
Panda: [Whispers] "Don't worry, (Y/n), we've got this. You don't have to face them now. Just hold off until you're prepared for the exchange event."
A quick thumbs up was all he gave to the confused (Y/n) before Panda abruptly turned back to the group in front of him.
Panda: "Yes, I, Panda, am a virgin! Loud and proud! Ha! Ha!"
Maki: "Panda! What are you going on about?"
Nobara: "Why are you saying something so weird?"
Megumi: [Sighs] "I regret being at this school."
Mai: "Yeah! I was talking about you, cursed corpse!"
Todo: "We were talking about the other virgin! (Y--"
Panda: "Oh...You mean Inumaki?"
It was at that very moment that Inumaki himself stepped forward.
Maki: "I-Inumaki?!"
Inumaki: "Tuna Mayo." (I, too, am a virgin)
The words came in union with his usual blank expression. Something that caused the multiple Jujutsu Students to continue their state of confusion. But when focus wasn't on him, Inumaki looked back at (Y/n) and offered his friend a thumbs up. It became clear at this point that both Panda and Inumaki were standing forward to loosen the blow of embarrassment for (Y/n). Knowing very well that he was standing in front of not only his girlfriend, but another girl, and Megumi. Both Panda and Inumaki knew well of the torment that Mai and the other Kyoto students put onto (Y/n) there, and they didn't want such things to follow him back to Tokyo. That's why, they did what any of the boys would do, and stood up for one of their own.
Panda: "So, Maki's sister! Other Kyoto student! What exactly do you want to talk about? How great it is that the four of us a virgins?"
Mai: [Shocked] "Wha--What? No!"
Panda: [Gasps loud] "Mai!" [Leans forward and whispers] "...Are you not a virgin?"
Mai: "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!"
Todo: "Hahahaha!!!"
The sound of laughter, and the explosion of red on Mai's face was all it took to take everyone's attention away from (Y/n). As this happened, both Inumaki and Panda turned back in union to (Y/n), signally for their friend to leave whilst he could. At first, (Y/n) didn't know what to do. But before long, he realized all he could do was smile softly at his friends and go to leave. Hoping that somehow he'd be able to harness his own discrepancies from the past, whilst also making it up to the boys.
All the while hoping to do so before the exchange event happened in a few weeks. It was that thought that continued to push (Y/n) forward to silently sneak away. It just so happened that at this point that Nobara and Maki managed to capture a glimpse of (Y/n) doing such, which in turn led the pair to realize what Panda and Inumaki was doing. So, with that in mind, both girls could help but grin as they faced off against the Kyoto students before them. Only doubled when Panda went to toss an arm around Mai's shoulder.
Panda: "Oh, it's okay, Mai. We can all be virgins here! You don't need to be ashamed."
Mai: "ARGH! Would you shut up, you stupid Panda?! I'm not a virgin!"
Panda said nothing but just offered a shocked glance before he was suddenly flung away by Mai. The angry look on her face definitely reminded Panda of Maki. But other than that, there wasn't much to showcase that they were twins. Especially going with the fact, that right now, Maki was happily grinning.
Maki: [Grins] "Well, Mai, it seems you haven't changed much? What were you here for again?"
Mai's glare sharpened as it aimed toward her older twin sister. Maki's grin didn't fade until a few seconds later, when out of nowhere Mai's glare dropped and her smirk returned. It was something that caught the attention of everyone, even Panda and Inumaki. The former trying his best to keep the focus on him and not (Y/n), who was still sneaking away silently in the background. But before too long, everyone was brought to a stop, even (Y/n), when Mai spoke her next set of words.
Mai: "Oh, why am I here, you ask? Well, that's simple..." [Grins] "...I heard a little friend of yours died."
A pulsating feeling exploded within (Y/n). His entire body freezing in place as his eyes widened.
Mai: "That must have been rough. But I don't know what was worse. You losing a friend...Or the fact that this wasn't the first time something like this happened?" [Yells out] "Isn't that right, (Y/n)?!"
The sound of his name erupting into the air brought another pulsating feeling within his body. The voice of Mai now overshadowed everything to do with anything else. Todo's gaze quickly flicking back through the crowd in front of him, along with Mai. The pair both smirking as their searched for their old 'friend'. But for (Y/n), all he could do was remain in his thoughts, as flashes from his past flooded his mind.
[Your POV]
Everything in this one moment went completely still as the words of Mai replayed through my mind. I couldn't move. I couldn't think. All I could do was stand there, stuck in place, as my body shook slightly. With each tremor that rocked my body, the more my inner voice yelled.
I didn't need to be afraid!
I didn't need to run away!
I wasn't the same person I once was!
There was so much being said to my mind. Like, I could understand it, but my body just wouldn't move. I was too focused on the past. I was too focused on every time I was pushed to the ground by Todo. Every time I was mentally put down by Mai. That and everything else I went through. I remembered it all in a moment, and it made me afraid. What made it was worse, I wasn't the same like I was back then. I was strong now! I had powers unlike anyone else! I could stand up for myself. I could fight! But what stopped me in this one moment, from turning around and confronting the people who made a complete year of my life hell, wasn't the fact I was afraid I couldn't stand up to them.
I could. What stopped me was...That I was afraid...That I couldn't stand up to my friends. And by that, I mean Maki and everyone else. Ever since I came back, as the person I am now, they've seen me in a new light. They saw me as strong, and unbeatable! I was an extraordinary figure that they could always rely on. They believed in me. But...But what would they think, if I went to step up to Todo and Mai right now...And I lost? If I lost my verbal footing. If I missed the mark on some quick reply and made myself look like an idiot? In one moment, I could ruin it all. Sure, they'd probably said everything was fine. But they'd always remember it.
In that one moment. The one time I didn't win. And if we're not talking about the verbal sense of a beating. What if they wanted to fight me? Wanted to push me down like they did back then? Sure, I'd fight back. But if I didn't come out on top...If I just missed one shot...One shot enough to screw me over, allowing them to get the upper hand for just a second...I could lose it all. The fight. My friends. And the belief they had in me. Something I had longed for, for so long. I didn't want to lose that. I wanted them to believe in me. It was that fear I held inside that stopped me more than any nightmares from the past. It was that fear...That kept me in place. And that fear only grew as Mai personally took it upon herself to remind everyone just who I was.
Mai: [Grins] "I mean, it must have been awful, right? Not only to have Sukuna's vessel be the one who died. And, before you say anything, I mean it must have been awful just to stand next to him! Haha! I mean, he's a freak! But he's not the only one you have~"
Maki: [Glares] "What are you trying to say, Mai?"
Mai: "I'm talking about, (Y/n)! After all, the Vessel wasn't the only one who was a half-curse monster!" [Licks lips] "Having such a tainted inhuman standing next to you, everyday, brazenly calling himself a jujutsu sorcerer must have been revolting! Haha! I don't know what's worse? The fact we had to put up with him for a year! Or that you had to do the same, only for him to die, and come back all over again just to cause you more disgust!"
...I'll be honest. The more time passed by from my time at Kyoto, I began to think, maybe I could handle Mai's words if I ever did come to see her again. I thought I could. I thought I managed a pretty good grip on my life, that I didn't need to worry about her. But right now, I understand something else. It doesn't matter how strong you can be in anything, the words of others are sharper than even the sharpest two-edged sword.
Mai: "So, tell me, Maki..."
"...wasn't it better when (Y/n) was dead?"
But out of all the questions asked, that was enough for me to kick the bucket. For the tears to begin to feel. And the pain in my heart to grow. Because out of everyone I didn't want to think lightly of me, out of all my friends, Maki sat at the top. She was the one I cared about most. Because if there's one thing a hero hates most. It's when the one he loves, more than anything else in the world, begins to see him as someone who isn't worthy to have them in their lives. For me, it was made ten times worse. And not because I was ten times stronger than the average hero or anything. I mean, it's worse for me, because I spent ten times more time than any other hero ever has, thinking about the one they love. Then again, how could I not?
I spent an eternity trapped in darkness. Where every resting moment I had, I'd look down and read the letter Maki gave me the last time I saw her. Every time I read it, I was reminded of who I left behind. Who I failed. I was reminded of so much that I was missing out on. I swear, I couldn't count the times my heart picked up every time I questioned whether or not in this time I've been away, if someone else had taken my place. Was there a new sorcerer who had taken by spot in the First-years? Was he stronger? Was he able to protect himself and those he cared about? But the fear that got me the most worked up...Was did she find someone else? Now, I was often the recipient of bad news.
Whether it be the lack of friends, or being laughed at by people who thought themselves better than me. So, of course, I had my doubts when it came to girls. Throughout my life, I've liked many girls, and always, I'd always received the bad news that they just didn't feel the same. But at least with those, I got to tell them how I felt. I never got to do that with Maki. That meant, not only did I have the fears of never ever getting the chance to do that. To tell her how I felt. But it also left me afraid, that in this time that passed, where I could do nothing but suffer in complete darkness...What's if she found someone else? That someone who would take my place at school. Who'd notice her beauty, just like I did...
Then, one day, he'd walk up to her, and they'd talk, they'd get to know each other. Then, he'd ask if she wanted to hang out. Maki, being the stubborn person that she was, would probably tell him to get lost at first. But with beauty like hers, this guy wouldn't just give up at one. He'd keep coming back. He'd keep talking to her. Asking her to hang out. Until eventually, she'd say yes. Now, she'd probably think it was just a one time thing. But then it'd happen again...and again...and again. Before she knew it, they were friends. They smiled and laughed together. All the while Maki would forget more and more about me. Until eventually, she'd just end up being like every other girl I've met in my life. She'd move on and forget about me.
It was that thought, that worry, that I feared the most. I feared it with all my energy. But I'd never forget about her. I would spend every time I got a moment's rest whilst stuck in the void, looking at the letter she gave me over and over again. It was the only thing that gave me hope when these fears of her forgetting me crept in. I was pushed by the words of Gojo and Panda, who both claimed this very letter that rested in my hands, was a letter of love. One given to me because, somehow, a beautiful, perfect, person like Maki, felt the same way I felt about her. Now, I didn't believe that. I still didn't exactly believe it at the time I was trapped. But the words of Gojo and Panda gave me enough faith. Hope. That maybe they were right.
The more I thought about it, the more I clung to the idea that Maki liked me, the more I felt that spark of hope ignite in my chest. It was the same feeling I got when Utahime first told me I was special. But back then, whereas hearing it made me happy. Now, it made me angry. Angry because these words weren't coming from someone else, they were coming from me! I didn't think such things because of someone else, I thought them because I believed in them. I wanted to believe that I was special. I was special enough to get out of here. I was special to become a strong sorcerer. I was special enough...To be with Maki. And that's what made me angry. Angry that I couldn't be with the girl I liked.
So, I decided to focus that anger onto the very thing that was keeping me away from her. Even with no curses around to fight, that didn't stop me from attacking the darkness around me. For an hour, I punched the air. I trained my body unlike any moment before whilst being trapped here. Because this was the instant that pushed me beyond my breaking point. Before now, I was a crying heap who'd stay in the corner and hope and pray that someone would save me. But if I were to just sit here and wait, I'd be letting some random guy get closer to Maki. I didn't want that! I was sick and tired of just letting shit happen to me all the time. It was time for me to take action... And that's exactly what I plan to do right now!
[3rd Person POV]
But just as (Y/n) found this declaration to finally do something, not far away, there was one person in particular who didn't know what to do...And that was Maki. The green-haired girl with glasses found her body unable to move as she faced off against her sister and Todo. Tears being held back with all her might so they didn't began to build in her eyes as Mai continued to speak out about (Y/n).
It made Maki angry, but whereas most other times she got angry, and was quick to react, this time around, this wasn't just some simple act that annoyed her. She was getting full-on angry from hearing her sister talk bad about someone Maki genuinely cared about. She wanted to say something, but for the life of her, everything Mai was saying was coming down on her like a ton of bricks.
Mai: [Grins] "You know, when I first heard that (Y/n) was coming here after leaving Kyoto, I felt sorry for you. I was even going to warn you about how pathetic he was. But then I realized, maybe he'd fit in just as much with the rest of you here."
All Maki could do was clench her fist in anger as her eyes narrowed in on her sister. But Mai saw this as clear as day and only smirked more. It seemed destined by everyone else that this little argument was going to continue forever. If it wasn't for a surprising figure who came to stop it.
"Mai, don't bring up such pointless topics."
Mai: "Hmm?"
Glancing up to her right, Mai saw the blank expression of Todo, still focused on the students in front of him.
Mai: [Grinning] "But I thought you wanted to see (Y/n) as well?"
Todo: "Ha! I do! But I'm also here for a more serious reason..."
That 'more serious reason' was soon alluded to as Todo began to finally approach his fellow Jujutsu students. The sudden movement from the male was enough to pull Maki's attention off her sister, whilst altering Panda, Inumaki and Megumi. A few more steps were taken by Todo until only five meters remained between him and the others. It was in this spot that he chose to stop, and bring forth his reason for being here.
Todo: "From a few whispers, I hear that you Japan students are pretty powerful."
Panda: "Huh?" [Turns to Inumaki] "There's whispers about us? I didn't know people talked about us."
Inumaki: "Fish flakes."
Panda: "Right. Right. Doesn't matter right now." [Turns back to Todo] "Now, you listen here, big guy!"
Todo: "Hmm?"
The sound came from Todo's mouth as he turned to glance at Panda, who was now aggressively pointing at him. The cursed corpse's gaze narrowed in toward his opponent as all else that previously mattered faded from his mind.
Panda: "I have three things to ask you. One; who the hell do you think you are to just walk into our school? Second; who the fuck do you think you are for talking bad about my friend? And thirdly;... What have people been whispering about us and are they cool things?!"
The final remark came with the most aggression. Something that caused Todo to raise an eyebrow and a few others on Panda's own side to slap their foreheads.
Todo: "Fushiguro, was it?"
Panda: [Tilts head] "Huh?"
Todo: [Turns to Megumi] "That's your name, right?"
Panda: "No. That's not my--"
Megumi: "It is...What about it?"
With the injection of Megumi's voice, everyone now turned to take in the momentary face off between him and Todo. All the while, in the background, Panda could be seen hunched over. A grey aura surrounded his body as Inumaki gently patted him on the back.
Panda: "They completely ignored me...They didn't even speak back to me..."
Inumaki: "Tuna mayo."
Panda: "...It's because I'm a Panda, isn't it?"
Inumaki did not dare respond to that question. Instead, the two soon joined the others in witnessing as Todo walked a little bit closer towards Megumi. In this time, Megumi did nothing but lift his head so he could keep eye contact with the approaching male. It was only when a few feet were left did Todo finally stop walking and release his most treasured question. The one he came here to ask...
Todo: "WHAT KIND OF WOMAN IS YOUR TYPE?!"
Megumi: "Hu...Huh?"
Nobara: [Leans over to Maki] "He didn't just ask that, did he?"
Maki: "I...I think he did."
The two girls were in complete shock, but honestly, they weren't alone. Even Megumi could hardly take in what Todo was saying. But when he took too long to respond, Todo took it upon himself to find an answer.
Todo: "Answer me, Fushiguro! What kind of woman is your type?!"
Megumi: "U-Uh, um...Well..."
Todo: "IS IT THIS INCREDIBLY TINY AND SKINNY GINGER STANDING NEXT TO YOU?!"
He screamed from the top of his lungs as he aggressively pointed at Nobara.
Megumi: "What?"
Nobara: "EXCUSE ME?!"
It seemed Nobara was ready to fight Todo herself now. She was in the process of rolling up her sleeves as Panda and Inumaki held her back.
Nobara: "Come on! Let me go! Talking shit about (Y/n) is one thing! But calling me 'incredibly' skinny is another! I may be thin...But don't you dare accuse me of being like someone who doesn't eat at all!"
Maki: "Nobara, relax, I don't think he was accusing you of--"
Todo: "Well, if she isn't your type of woman, Fushiguro! Then it must be this one, Mai's sister!"
Maki: "What? Fushiguro? Ew!"
Todo: [To Megumi] "Surely you seem like a guy who is into tall and dominant women who have anger issues and scream about useless things every five seconds."
Maki: "...What did you just say?"
--A few seconds later--
Maki: "I'll show you what useless things I scream about every five seconds! I'll be screaming whilst I crush your head into the ground you gym junky!"
By this point, it took the combined might of Panda, Inumaki and Nobara to hold Maki back, who was now clawing her way towards Todo. But like before, Todo seemed to care very little. As he was now in a fighting position, narrowing his eyes and smirking at Megumi, who simply stared back.
Megumi: "What's your deal asking a question like that?"
Todo: "Because it is a question worth the most. A person's fetish reflects everything about them. People with boring taste in women are boring themselves. And I hate boring men! So give me your answer! Because depending on your answer, I'll beat you half to death right here. At least then I'll be able to drag someone worthy out, or even the third years, to the exchange event! Maybe then I'll find someone worth my tim--"
"Now. Now. Hold on, muscles for brains. You don't need to go on a murder spree to get the attention of the strongest..."
Todo: "Huh?"
Megumi: "Hmm?"
Everyone else: "Ugh?"
The trio of noises left the mouths of everyone as soon as the familiar voice entered the air. It didn't take much time afterwards for everyone to turn in the same direction, the direction which focused right on the entrance of the Cafeteria. Yet, blocking the path, a familiar face could be seen carrying a familiar grin. Well, familiar for the Japan students, who looked on in shock to see that (Y/n) was still here. As for Mai and Todo, they just tilted their heads in confusion.
Todo: "Who is this handsome man that has suddenly appeared?" [Calls out to you] "I have no time for show pony's, guy! It's best you leave now...Before I damage your perfect face."
(Y/n): "Huh? What?" [Mutters] "I did not expect that for a first response. Oh, well. Moving on!" [Speaks out loud] "I ain't leaving until you back away from my friend. Because depending on your answer...I'll beat you half to death. At least then, maybe I can draw out the rest of your school?" [Grins] "...Maybe then it'll be an even fight~"
Now, whereas Todo did not recognize the person standing before him, and Mai seemed stuck on it, the girl tapping her chin slightly as she tried to picture where she had seen this handsome figure before. But whereas Mai waited, Todo was quick to rise to his feet and smile when he began sensing the aura coming off of this stranger's body. Because, through the vision of a sorcerer, it seemed like (Y/n)'s body was ablaze with a glowing blue energy. It was like a wildfire stuck in one location. It got Todo excited, and eager to see what this person had in store for him.
Todo: "You'll beat me half to death? Haha! I'd like to see you try, handsome man. Though...I can tell from your aura that you are the strongest here." [Smirks] "So I'll ask you the same question I asked Fushiguro."
(Y/n): [Mutters] "Still confused about the handsome remark, but sure." [To Todo] "Yeah, well...Ask away!"
Todo: [Chuckles slightly] "Very well. In that case, tell me, handsome man...What is--"
(Y/n): "But before we start, tell me firstly...What woman is your type?"
Todo: "...H-Huh?"
Everyone Else: "HUH?!"
If the noise wasn't enough, the faces of everyone else was easy to see just how shocked the Tokyo's students were from hearing (Y/n) ask such a question. But out of everyone, Todo seemed surprised. No one really asked for his type before. Yet, after the momentary surprise that came his way in the beginning, he was quick to smirk as he readied his answer.
Todo: "You want to know my type? Alright. My type of woman is... A TALL WOMAN WITH A BIG ASS!!"
That one response was enough to make everyone silent, though, there were two separate reactions to hearing it. Firstly, there was the girls...
Mai: [Sighs] "Here we go. This again..." [Yells to Todo] "Stop asking that question every time!"
Megumi: "...Seriously...Why am I in this school?"
Nobara: "Why am I not surprised a boy said he likes a girl with a big ass?"
Maki: "Boys are disgusting like that."
Nobara: "S-So, um...What exactly is (Y/n)'s type?"
Maki: "Huh? O-Oh..." [Blushes] "Um...W-Well...I mean, (Y/n) is mature. He doesn't think of silly things like--"
(Y/n): "Valid. Valid. Respect..."
Maki/Nobara: "Huh?"
...Then there was the boy's response. Which, besides (Y/n)'s remark, was pretty much just (Y/n), Panda and Inumaki nodding their heads in agreement as they communicated amongst each other.
Panda: "I understand where he is coming from. I, too, like big ass'."
Inumaki: "Tuna mayo."
(Y/n): [To Panda] "Yeah, but, like, do Panda's even have big ass'? Like, is there a Panda with a thin ass, and one with a bigger one?"
Panda: "Oh, you would be surprised (Y/n) with the different shapes of Panda's rears. Perhaps I can show you sometime?"
(Y/n): "Oh...Um...T-Thanks but I don't really want to...I-I mean, I have a girlfriend...Sooo?"
Panda: "Oh. Right. Yes. My apologies. Maki would probably get extremely jealous from seeing such a thing."
(Y/n): "Yeah...Yeah...That."
Megumi: "...Why couldn't I just be a normal kid?"
Not far away, both Nobara and Maki blankly watched the scene of the trio of boys talking about such...things...
Maki: [Sighs] "...That's my boyfriend, everybody."
The two girls just shook their heads in union. But their focus was suddenly directed back to the matter at hand as (Y/n) realigned his eyes with Todo, who grinned as he received the response from his fellow males...and Panda.
Todo: "It's a pretty good type, isn't it? Now, that you have heard mine, tell me, Handsome man...What is your type of woman?"
(Y/n): "My type of woman...?"
Instantly, the blank expressions dropped from Maki and Nobara's faces when (Y/n) mentioned those words. Each anticipating what he was about to say next. Of course, they both had their thoughts of what he would say.
Dream (Y/n): [Maki] "Obviously, my type of woman is the beautiful and elegant type that wear glasses, are strong will, and take shit from no one. It doesn't matter about whether her boobs or ass aren't as big as some other girls who are just whores online. Hers are nice and I like them...Also Maki is my girlfriend and I would like everyone including those girls who sit around me to know that."
Dream (Y/n): [Nobara] "My type of woman, you ask? Well, it should be quite clear. I like someone who is hot and attractive, yet also carries a supreme skill for fashion sense and looking outright cute in anything she wears. And her boobs and ass are not incredibly skinny like some ape may say. They're perfect in every way...Also I'd much prefer dating Nobara, but some girl in glasses keeps stalking me and getting in my way of confessing my true feelings.
Both girls couldn't help but smile as they pictured such. But in the end, both were denied the plesantries of hearing such things, as (Y/n) chose to speak out something they were not expecting.
(Y/n): "My type of woman...? Well...You can't just simply ask that question."
Maki: "Huh?"
Nobara: "Huh?"
Todo: "Huh?"
(Y/n): [To Todo] "I mean, you say your type is a tall woman with a big ass. But what about her boobs? What about her thighs? You can't just say your type in women and just half ass the answer. You've gotta be precise."
Todo: "Hu...H-Huh...I don't understand?"
(Y/n): "Like, for instance, me, like every other guy, is into thighs. THIGHS SAVE LIVES after all. But that isn't the only thing that I'm looking for. I mean, what about her boobs? I like a girl with boobs that aren't too big, but that aren't small either. You know, the perfect shape that you can wrap your hand around it and feel the joys of touching a boob."
To the side, Nobara's dumbfounded gaze slowly lowered to her own chest when she thought no one was looking.
(Y/n): "And once you've worked out the circumference of the boobs, what about the way they're shaped? Do you want them perfectly round, or hanging a little that draws in the attention?"
Todo: "O-Oh, right..."
(Y/n): "And only once you've moved passed all of that can you then move to the ass. Because, as mathematically calculated by boys around the world, there tends to be the likelihood that a girl with big boobs has no ass."
Todo: "B-But...If a girl has a big ass...Wouldn't that mean that she has no big boobs?"
(Y/n): "Most of the time, yes..."
Todo: "But..." [Looks down at the ground] "...But I also like big boobs..."
(Y/n): "See! There we go! Now you're getting it! Through this study we're going through, you've discovered that you also like a tall girl with a big ass and big boobs!"
Todo: "I...I see now." [Realizes] "But if...If a girl having a big ass means she doesn't have big boobs, how am I supposed to find my type?"
(Y/n): "That's where you can rest assured, my guy. Because whereas it is rare...It's not completely out of the realms of possibility. You just have to keep your eyes peeled to find this new type of woman you've discovered to like."
Todo: "O...Okay..."
A look of complete infatuation was shown on Todo's face. The guy who, moments ago, wanted nothing more than to fight the 'handsome man' in front of him, was now solely focused on hearing his teachings. By this point, however, the girls present were getting a little annoyed about what they were hearing...and a little sick.
Maki: "Is this seriously what boys talk about all the time?"
Nobara: "No wonder they've got dog brains."
Mai: "I have to deal with this every day at Kyoto. But I've never seen Todo act so much like a little boy."
Maki: "I always knew (Y/n) was a punk...a punk who just thought about boobs like a weirdo."
Though, as soon as Maki said that, a secret blush appeared on the faces of herself and Nobara, who silently lowered their gaze back down to their own chests to see if they matched the topics (Y/n) had been talking about. Unfortunatelty, they were suddenly pulled from their self-examinations when the voice of Mai suddenly burst out.
Mai: "Wait! Did...Did you just say '(Y/n)'?"
Maki: "Huh? Oh, yeah..." [Smirks] "That guy who seems to be feeding a banana to your ape friend over there, that's (Y/n)..."
Mai: "W-What...?"
She quickly flicked her head in the direction of the conversation to see the sight of Todo hunched down slightly, just like a monkey, who joyously looked up at (Y/n), who, instead of feeding him a banana, was feeding him the true knowledge of the complexities of having different types in women. But Mai found her attention drawn away from the actual topic at hand, and more so on (Y/n) himself. Because she didn't believe for a second that the admittedly...handsome...guy standing in front of her was the virgin (Y/n) she used to bully at Kyoto.
Mai: "T...There's no way that's (Y/n)." [Chuckles nervously] "There's no way you expect me to believe that, right?"
Maki: [Smiles] "Believe it or not, I don't care."
Mai: "You're...You're joking with me right now, aren't you? B-Because that guy over there...With the confident smile...The toned body you can see through his uniform...and the way he's talking about girls without stuttering...Is (Y/n) (L/n)?"
Maki: "Again, believe it or not, I don't care." [Crosses arms] "Sounds like you're kinda jealous."
Mai: "W-What? Jealous? Ha-Ha! What could I be jealous of?"
Maki: "That someone as hot as him is at Tokyo and not Kyoto."
Nobara: "That in the time you've been here, (Y/n) hasn't even looked at you once."
Maki: "Showing that he's moving on from everything that happened in the past."
Nobara: "And basically just being a pretty cool guy...Despite his tendancies to talk about boobs, apparently."
The mere mention of boobs was all it took for Maki and Nobara to nervously glance down at their chests. But instead of commenting on this, Mai instead adverted her attention back to (Y/n). By this point, all confusion had be switched with anger. She was annoyed that someone she admitted was handsome in the safety of her own mind, was the virgin loser she used to bully back at Kyoto.
Before long, the pressure of all this became too much. So she decided to prove everyone wrong that this person wasn't (Y/n). He was just some random hot guy they got off the streets to pretend to be him to make everyone at Kyoto second guess what they did to him when he was there. And Mai was present on doing exactly that. For as (Y/n) and Todo continued to communicate, they were suddenly interrupted by the voice of Mai.
Mai: "Hey! You!"
(Y/n): "Huh? Oh...Hey, Mai, what's up?"
Mai: "...W-Wha--" [Shakes head] "Enough of this shit. I know you're not (Y/n)."
(Y/n): "Huh? What do you mean? Oh--" [Chuckles] "I guess I don't really look like I used to, huh? But, Nah, it's me. I'm (Y/n)."
Both the faces of Mai and Todo were quick to freeze in a confused state, the pair slowly looking at the smiling face of (Y/n), who just glanced between them.
Todo: "Wait...You're the virgin? There's no way, you're too handsome and knowledgeable on women to be him."
Mai: "T-Todo's right. There's no way you're him." [Leans closer] "Who are you really?" [Grins] "Tell me...And I'll let you take me on a date tonight~"
Mai thought she had the best of this guy standing in front of her. After all, she was quite attractive herself, so this guy, whoever he really was, would easily give up this act to take her out for the--
(Y/n): "I'm good thanks."
...And then she was given the twist of a lifetime.
Mai: "I...I'm sorry?"
(Y/n): "I'm good. For taking you out on a date, I mean." [Smiles] "Thanks, though."
Mai: "Wha...'Thanks though', I didn't just ask you if you wanted me to help you cheat on a test. I was giving you permission to take me on a date."
(Y/n): "...I know?"
A slightly confused smile rested on (Y/n)'s lips as he stepped passed the equally confused duo of Todo and Mai. Their eyes just continued to follow (Y/n) as he made his way over to Nobara, Maki, and Megumi.
(Y/n): "I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm somewhat complimented that you want to go on a date with me after how we were when I was at Kyoto. But...I don't think my girlfriend would like me going out with her sister."
There was two big reveals in that one sentence. The first, was that (Y/n) had a girlfriend. Something that shocked Mai and Todo, the former more so than the latter, as Todo was still struggling with the fact that the person standing in front of him was actually (Y/n). But Mai was more so drawn on the fact that (Y/n) was dating his older sister. And she knew all was real when (Y/n) proceeded to stand behind Maki and toss his arms around her. It was in this close position that Maki softly smiled to herself as (Y/n) showed her love and affection.
Mai: "I...I...I don't understand...Y-You're dating the loser, Maki?"
Todo: "The virgin has a girlfriend?"
Maki: [Smirks confidently] "Uh, huh. Though, he's not a loser. Trust me~ He has plenty of qualities that a lot of guys would want...and a few girls want as well."
It wasn't exactly confirmed what Maki was referring to. Heck, it even caused (Y/n) to be shocked a little. But he knew Maki was just going along with his little stunt to make himself seem ten times better than the last time Todo and Mai saw him.
Maki: "You know, Mai, when I first heard what you did to (Y/n), I thought you may be right. But the more I got to know (Y/n)...and he got to know me...I realized you really are the younger twin."
Mai: "What's that supposed to mean?"
Maki: "Oh, you know, just the fact that you're young. So you clearly wouldn't know how to properly explain your feelings to a boy you liked. So, you decided to go the route of bullying him to show you were interested~"
The smirk of Maki now reigned supreme, as Mai began to blush whilst (Y/n) looked on in shock. Maki was truly going on a whole other level than he was planning.
Maki: "But, unfortunately, even as your big sister, I can't always do the work for you. So I decided to take (Y/n) off your hands...And put him into my own. After all, if you won't tell him how you feel, I can only tell him how I feel."
Mai: "P-Pfft! Like I care! Ha! You two are a perfect match! You're both pathetic--"
Maki: "Aw. How nice of you." [Looks up at you] "You hear that, (Y/n), my silly sister says we're perfect for each other."
(Y/n): "Oh, uh...R-Right!"
Mai: "No! That's not what I--ARGH! You know what I was trying to say!"
Maki: "Hmm? Oh, you're still here? I didn't notice...I thought you left."
Mai: "Of course, I'm still here! I was speaking just a second ago!"
Maki: "...Really?" [Smiles] "I'm sorry, I kinda get distracted when (Y/n) holds me in his arms."
Maki decided to prove her point further by burying her head into the chest of her boyfriend. As she did, she wrapped her arms around his body and squeezed him tightly. As like before, (Y/n) was still confused at how well Maki had adapted to the moment. But what he didn't know was that this was Maki's payback to what her sister said before. The things she called (Y/n) made Maki extremely angry, especially after knowing what (Y/n) went through. So if she could show both Mai and Todo just how great (Y/n) was doing now, in hopes it'd ruin their day just in the slightest, then she'd happily keep up the act.
And so far, it seemed to be working. Mai was unable to tear her eyes away from the scene in front of her despite her best attempts. She hated everything. Seeing her sister act so smug, (Y/n) acting like he wasn't the same loser he was when she first met him, and the way they acted like Mai even cared seeing the pair like this. She hated it all. That's all she cared about what was going on in front of her. Though, when she realized she Maki was blocking her from truly getting at (Y/n), Mai decided to throw her next attack at the boy she bullied just one year ago. And it all came about when she pulled up to (Y/n)'s side with her grin once more on show.
Mai: "You think you're so cool, (Y/n)?"
(Y/n): "I mean, I'd like to think so. Why...Do you think I'm cool?"
Mai: "W-What? That wasn't what I was sayi--Argh!" [Crosses arms and grins] "Look! You may have fooled everyone else around here, but I know who you really are. I'll give you something though. Last I knew you, you could barely look at a woman. So you've definitely at least grown a pair."
(Y/n): "Grown a pair? What? You mean my muscles?"
He said as he lifted up his arms. Obviously, he knew Mai wasn't talking about them, but he wanted to show her another thing about him that had changed. And, you know what, it managed to work. Even the slightest glance at his toned arms was all it took for Mai's jaw to drop slightly and a blush to cross her cheeks. Her view of (Y/n)'s muscular arms was suddenly taken away, however, when out of nowhere Nobara reached out and hugged his left arm tightly.
Nobara: "I love your muscles, (Y/n)?"
(Y/n): "O-Oh, um...Thanks, Nobara?"
He asked in confusion as he looked down at her. He was genuinely unsure what she was doing, but just when he was about to question it further, it seemed Maki decided to use this advantage to properly prove a point to the pair watching them. Especially Mai.
Maki: "Yeah, well...I love them more, (Y/n)?"
(Y/n): "What--"
Nobara: "Not as much as me. I love them more."
Maki: "Ha! Yeah, right!"
The pair smirked at each other as they both now hugged onto (Y/n)'s arms. Now, whereas some in the know may question whether or not Nobara and Maki were back at it about fighting over (Y/n). Both girls, despite not saying anything, knew what they were really doing. They just wanted to make this moment far more memorial for (Y/n), so they did what every guy standing in front of his bullies hoped for...To have two girls helplessly fight over him. Of course, this led the bullies watching to grow even more confused.
Mai: [To Nobara] "Who the fuck are you?"
Nobara: "Huh? Oh..." [Grins] "I'm (Y/n)'s other girlfriend."
Mai: "What?"
Panda: "WHAT?! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?!"
Megumi: [Sighs] "...I want to leave...But I'm worried someone will do something stupid if I do..."
Inumaki proceeded to give Megumi a pat on the bat, as Panda still struggled to comprehend what he was seeing in front of him. As this went down, not far away, a completely shocked Todo watched on in pure disbelief.
Todo: "...(Y/n)...The virgin I used to bully...H-Has two girlfriends? T-This can't be...How could someone like him get the attention of girls...W-When I...I can't even get the attention...of her."
It was unknown who 'her' was exactly, but it definitely added to the plethora of thoughts that Todo was currently thinking about. It was in this state of thinking, that Nobara and Maki continued up their act of both being (Y/n)'s girlfriends.
Nobara: "(Y/n), it's my turn to get cuddles tonight!"
Maki: "No, it's my turn!"
Nobara: "You had them last night! It's my turn!"
Maki: [Grins] "Maybe that's because (Y/n) likes me more~"
Nobara: "Oh, you want to bet~"
Both girls just smirked at one another before they went about hugging his arms tighter whilst begging their 'boyfriend' to pay attention to them, and not the other. This led Mai to just watch in complete disbelief at what she was seeing in front of her. And, honestly, (Y/n) wasn't much different. All he could do was continue to smile nervously. However, it was as he struggled to comprehend everything that was going on in front of him, that he felt a gentle tap on his shoulder. Upon turning around, he was greeted by the completely emotionless face of Todo.
Todo: "Let's go somewhere private. I wanna talk to you, (Y/n)."
(Y/n): "...Huh?"
At first, immediate chills from memories of the past rushed down his face, but they soon came to relax as he remembered everything he had been through to get to this point. He wasn't going to let some past life's fear hold him back. So, in that case, (Y/n) left with Todo. At first, when this happened, the others were put on alert. But all it took was a simple smile from (Y/n) to reflect that everything would be alright. And, you know what, it was. About thirty minutes later, (Y/n) and Todo came back to the spot next to the vending machines. Not a single word, or look on their face could be seen. And neither one commented on anything when asked by the others as they returned to their separate groups.
Maki: "(Y/n), what happened?"
Nobara: "Are you okay?"
(Y/n): "Yeah. I'm fine."
The same could be said for Todo when he walked back to Mai.
Mai: "Hey, hey, what did you do? Huh?" [Smirks] "Did you beat him up? Was he the same old virgin loser we--"
Todo: "Don't ask the business between men, Mai. What happens in the privacy of two men is to be respected. Now, come on, we're leaving."
His straight face remained with each word he said, even as he walked passed the confused Mai and went to leave. It didn't take long for the younger Zen'in female to follow after, continuing to ask Todo what happened, but he still refused to say. Even for the Tokyo students, when they went to leave, they were quick to ask (Y/n) about what happened.
Panda: "So, (Y/n), what happened? Did you and Todo fight? Did you win?"
Nobara: "Please tell me you kicked that guys ass."
Todo: "Pfft! Pathetic muscle brain punk wouldn't know what hit him."
All three smirked, knowing the true strength of (Y/n) could easily match Todo's own. But to their surprise, they didn't receive the respond they expected.
(Y/n): "Todo and I didn't fight. We just had a talk."
Nobara: "Huh? What?"
Panda: "A talk?"
Maki: "But he bullied you at Kyoto? I thought you would definitely fight."
(Y/n): "So did I, honestly, I was more surprised than ever before when we finally stopped walking.
[Your POV]
--Twenty Minutes Ago--
For ten minutes we had been walking already, and for ten minutes I had been mentally preparing myself for an attack out of nowhere. What made it even worse was the fact that Todo hadn't said a single word since he asked to speak to me. Honestly, I was starting to wonder whether or not I should make the opening attack. You know, to kinda give him a taste of what I was capable of. But just when I was about to, out of nowhere, he stopped walking. Just at the very middle of the school's courtyard, not a single person was in sight... The perfect place to murder someone.
Todo: "Alright...This should be far enough."
(Y/n): [Turns to him] "Huh? O-Oh..."
Todo: "I brought you out here so no one would see what we're about to do."
(Y/n): "Oh...Right." [Thoughts] "Alright, this is it. You were planning to save the fighting until the Exchange event, but I guess there's nothing I can do now."
Todo: "Though, before I do this, tell me...Are you really the virgin I used to bully?"
(Y/n): "Um...Yeah. I'm (Y/n)."
Todo: "Alright. Good. In that case, there's nothing stopping me from doing this."
Immediately following his words, Todo narrowed his gaze onto my own. His hands effortlessly cracking his knuckles as his feet dug into the ground. His hands soon turning into fists, signally the fight that was about to begin. And so, preparing for it myself. I began stretching my neck. Making sure I was all loosened up ready for what was about to go down. I was in the middle of it when out of nowhere Todo...Dropped to his hands and knees and started...Bowing?
Todo: "Please, (Y/n)! Please tell me how a once loser like you managed to get with two girls! I need your help!"
(Y/n): "H-Huh? What?"
He was seriously bowing to me right now, and...Asking for my help?
(Y/n): "What are you on about, dude?"
Todo: "I-I need your help! Before, you talked about types and women so effortlessly. It was so cool! It truly opened my eyes! So I couldn't believe it was really you! But you swear you're (Y/n), which only makes this more amazing!"
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "Like what? The fact I'm strong now? Or that I've got a girlfriend?"
Todo: "It's incredible! Seeing someone who was once weak and useless, now flooded with so much cursed energy, and with the ability to get the attention of multiple girls. It's...It's clearly a sign for me."
(Y/n): "What?"
Todo: "You're my only hope!"
(Y/n): "For what...?"
Todo: "To get the attention of the girl I like! Please, (Y/n)! No, Teacher! Please, Teacher, help me!"
With each strong declaration of words, Todo slammed his head into the ground. Before long, a small crater was created solely from his forehead. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, yet it was right in front of me, so I couldn't ignore it. Todo just continued to beg me as he slammed his head into the ground.
Todo: "Please, Teacher!"
Slam!
Todo: "Please, Teacher!"
Slam!
Todo: "Please, Teacher!"
Slam!
Todo: "Please, Teach--"
(Y/n): "Okay! Okay! Just stop hitting your head on the ground! Please!"
Honestly, I didn't even know the words came from my mouth before it was too late. They kinda just...happened. I wasn't entirely sure I wanted to say anything, but the way Todo was acting was so shocking that I could barely think straight. Either way, Todo seemed to get the answer he wanted as he quickly rose on his knees and grabbed my hands with complete joy. A large smile spreading across his face as he looked up at me.
Todo: "Yes! Thank you, Teacher! Thank you for blessing me with your knowledge!"
(Y/n): "Uh, l-look, I'm not so sure I can really--"
Todo: "--I will do anything you say, Teacher!"
(Y/n): "Well...In that case...Okay then."
Todo: [Smiles brightly] "Haha! Yes! I will not forget this, (Y--I mean, Teacher! I will take your training to heart, I swear!"
With each word he spoke, his smile grew bigger and bigger. As for me, I could only chuckle nervously at what I was seeing.
(Y/n): "U-Um, sure...But before anything, what exactly do you want me to help you with? You said something about getting the attention of a girl? Who? Someone from Kyoto?"
Todo: "Wha--Ha! As if! I'm talking about a real woman! The prize of my mind! The amazing...Takada-Chan!"
(Y/n): "T...Takada...Chan?"
Todo: "Yes! Teacher, do you know her?" [Shakes your body] "Do you know her? Do you know her?"
I don't know what was more shocking. That Todo could still shake my body effortlessly, or the fact that he was in love with Takada-Chan...The literal Pop-Idol. I mean, when I was at Kyoto he rambled about some girl, but I never knew it was someone famous. Honestly, as soon as I heard who he wanted me to help set him up with, I was immediately regretting it. I thought he might just have had a crush on a random girl...Not someone famous!"
(Y/n): "U-Um...Yeah, I know her. Hey, maybe I'm not the best person to help you with--"
Todo: "Do not be rediculous, Teacher. You are perfect! After all, you were once weak and without any chance of getting with a woman. But now you are handsome and have two girls drooling over you! You even made Mai jealous!"
(Y/n): "What now?"
Todo: "So clearly you are the only choice I have if I wish to finally talk to Takada-Chan! Please, Teacher, you have to help me!"
Now, if anyone else was in my position at this point, they'd probably simply tell Todo, no, and run for their lives. But if I'm being serious...I kinda felt bad for him. He seemed really hung up on this girl, and the fact he seemed unable to speak with her made him really upset. And despite what Todo had done for me for so long, I kinda saw a little bit of myself in his eyes right now. Of course, I only went along with this in the first place cause I wanted to screw with him.
That, and he said he'd do anything for me, and I wanted to see how far that'd take me. But right now, after seeing how serious he was about this, I began second guessing it all. Unfortunately for me, Todo seemed to be glued on the idea that I was the perfect, and only, choice to help him properly confess his love to Takada-Chan. Right now, he seemed more like a loveable big ol' teddy bear instead of someone who could kill a person easily. I think that thought was also what played a part in me choosing to agree in helping Todo with this matter.
Because as of late, I've liked my life a lot, and I didn't want to ruin that. So all I could really do was agree to helping Todo confess his feelings to someone he'd very rarely have a chance to properly speak with. But that didn't seem to bother Todo, who was beyond excited as soon as I agreed to help him. He didn't stop smiling, and kinda crying actually, for the enter walk back. It was only when we got in view of everyone else that he brought back his straight forward face.
--Present--
Panda: "Come on, (Y/n), tell us what happened."
Nobara: "Yeah, I wanna hear if you got in a fight?"
Maki: "If you did, I hope you won and taught that muscle for brains some manners."
(Y/n): [Chuckles] "Guys, relax, we didn't fight...We just talked."
Yeah...Talked...About me being the life coach to my now Ex-Bully turned pupil? But I decided to keep that bit of information to myself. Leaving the others beyond confused as we returned to the deeper parts of the school grounds. All the while Todo and Mai continued to walk away. Now, I'll be honest, I'm surprised a fight didn't break out. But I knew that was only postponed. The exchange event wasn't far away, and when that finally arrived, I knew that'd be when the events of my past finally came to reach my present. But when that time came, I wouldn't be afraid, I'd be there to face it all up front. And no matter what happened, I'd show everyone, that at the end of the day, no matter who chooses to fight me. It'll be a mistake. And they'd ask...
"Why?"
And all I'd have to do is reply with a simple response.
"Why will it be a mistake? Duh, it's simple. Can't you see it? Don't even bother to fight me..."
"...Because I'll just win."
[THE CHAPTER REACHES 280 VOTES IN 24 HOURS, NEXT CHAPTER NEXT WEEK!!!]
[And CHAPTER DONE! Now, a few things I wanna point out and say...
1.) This chapter was over 18.5k words! Yet, I kinda stuck on one subject. But this chapter was pretty much a set up for when the exchange event happens. You'll notice some things were missing like the fights that happened in the original episode. DONT WORRY! I'm saving the moments and banter for the actual Exchange event where I can properly make it ten times better with what I plan to set up before we reach that point! So hopefully you all liked what I set down nonetheless.
2.) There will be more flashbacks to your time in Kyoto. It may have felt like there wasn't a lot in this chapter. But this chapter was basically to showcase moments between the reader and Todo and Mai. The more flashbacks with the others will take place during the exchange event arc. So be on the lookout for that!
3.) There's also things laid into the background that will be built upon later on, and chapters like this help that. Such as everything with Yuta. I've purposely done it the way I have to build up the mystery element of this story. Because I feel that can be a fun added aspect to it that some may not expect when first coming into it.
That's pretty much all I wanted to get across, so hopefully that helps you all in anyway with understanding what I have planned going on! But if you did end up enjoying, feel free to vote and comment your thoughts. 280 votes and I'll be back with another MASSIVE chapter next week! And with that one, we get back into the action! Hopefully it can add more events that'll interest you all! So, with that being said, thank you all for reading today's chapter, hopefully the notification problem gets fixed soon and I can finally release this chapter! So if you're seeing this, all should be fixed! And if it remains fixed, you'll be seeing a whole lot more soon~]
