Dev was dumbfounded once Sonakshi stopped singing. He could not believe that he had just played the guitar and that too like a pro! He was astounded and shocked at himself. He looked at Sonakshi's smiling face and then at his fingers resting on the strings, "Sonakshi.....did you just see what I did?"

Sonakshi was baffled, "Matlab? You played the guitar so well.......par mera song kaisa laga aapko?"

"Beautiful!" he kept the guitar down and moved closer to her, "just like you.....tumhari awaaz mein jaado hai Sonakshi...dekho tumne mujhe guitar bajaana sikha diya," he caressed her face.

"Aap kuch bhi bol rahe hain," she blushed, "aap jaise musician ke aage main toh kuch bhi nahin.....ab aap  ek song sunaiye."

"Musician?Main? No way Sonakshi! I have never sung in my life!" Dev said vehemently.

Sonakshi was worried about him now, "lagta hai inke dimaag par bahut gehri chot padi hai......inki kaafi memory chali gayi hai......mujhe hi kuch karna padega ab."

Sonakshi sat on his lap to Dev's delight and picked the guitar in her hand; she held his right hand and placed it on the strings and then started humming something. Dev closed his eyes and inhaled her fragrance as she snuggled in his lap. Before long, he started humming this beautiful song. Interestingly, this song was being composed by Rehaan just before his disappearance. Rehaan had just composed the song partially, but as Dev started singing and playing the guitar with Sonakshi in his lap, the song just flowed effortlessly

Na hai yeh pana
Na khona hi hai

Tera na hona, jaane
Kyun hona hi hai

Tum Se Hi din hota hai,
Surmayi shaam aati hai
Tum Se Hi, Tum Se Hi

Har ghadi saans aati hai
Zindagi kehlati hai,
Tum Se Hi, Tum Se Hi

Na hai yeh pana
Na khona hi hai
Tera na hona, jaane
Kyun hona hi hai

Aankhon mein aankhein teri,
Baahon mein Baahen teri.
Mera na mujh mein kuch raha,
Hua kya
Baaton mein baaten teri,
Raatein saugatein teri.
Kyun tera sab yeh ho gaya,
Hua kya

Mein kahin bhi jaata hun,
Tum Se Hi mil jata hun.
Tum Se Hi, Tum Se Hi.

Shor mein khamoshi hai,
Thodi si behoshi hai.
Tum Se Hi, Tum Se Hi

Aadha sa vaada kabhi,
Aadhe se zyada kabhi,
Jee chahe karlu is tarah,
Wafa ka.

Chhode na chhute kabhi,
Tode na toote kabhi,
Jo dhaaga tum se jud gaya,
Wafa ka.

Mein tera sarmaya hun,
Jo bhi mein ban paya hun.
Tum Se Hi, Tum Se Hi.

Raaste mil jate hai,
Manzile mil jati hai.
Tum Se Hi, Tum Se Hi.

Na hai yeh pana,
Na khona he hai.

Tera na hona, jaane,
Kuyn hona he hai.

There was pin drop silence when Dev stopped singing; the only sounds audible in the beach house were the silent splashes of the waves on the beach and their heavy breathing, warming each other's hearts. Dev put the guitar down and lifted her chin, "you have changed my life forever Sonakshi.......promise me you will never leave me......tum hamesha meri zindagi mein rahogi......kyunki aaj tak maine jis insaan ko bhi bohot pyaar kiya hai, wo mujhse alag ho gaya hai," he said tearfully.

Sonakshi looked into his moist eyes; the tears melted her heart. She had seen various facets of Rehaan so far- passionate, tender, possessive, absent-minded, unpredictable, forgetful, romantic, fearless, but had never seen this emotional and sensitive aspect of his life. She smiled through her own tears and caressed his face, "kabhi nahin chodhoongi," she grabbed his hands and kissed them tenderly, "aisa kaun hai aapki zindagi mein jo aap se door ho gaya hai?"

Dev looked into her eyes, and tried to remember something from his childhood. His head started pounding as he strained to remember a face- it was a middle aged lady; a little boy was sitting on her lap. The lady was singing to him. Dev closed his eyes as his head was throbbing; he felt he would pass out any moment.

Sonakshi got worried when she saw the color drain from his face; she shook him gently, "koi baat nahin......aap abhi zyaada mat sochiye," she kissed his cheeks softly and smiled, "coffee?"

Dev nodded his head and wiped his face with his hands, "sounds like a good idea." Sonakshi went to the kitchen to make coffee. Dev got up and decided to get some fresh air; as he walked around in the music room, he thought he saw flashes of the same middle aged lady sitting on the floor and singing to a slightly older, may be a teenage boy. The boy had a guitar in his hand and the two were swaying to a song.

"Coffee!" Sonakshi interrupted his visual imagery.

Dev took the cup from her but kept his gaze on the floor; he lifted his finger and pointed, "wahan....wahan.....wo mujhey music sikha rahi thi...pata nahiin kahan chali gayi woh?" his hand trembled as he sipped on the coffee.

"Dadi?" Sonakshi asked.

Dev was stunned and looked at her, "Dadi? Tum kaise jaanti ho unhe? Kitne saal ho gaye unse mile."

Sonakshi was really surprised; she raised her eyebrow and looked at him, "aap dadi ko bhi bhool gaye? Kuch din pehle hi toh mile the."

A shocked Dev stared at her, "what? I don't believe it! How do you know her? I haven't seen her since I was a little boy.....how would you know?" he raised his voice. Sonakshi was taken aback by his reaction; she figured he did not remember any events from his recent life, but how come he remembered her? And remembered her real name too?Something was not adding...

She pulled away from him and decided to call dadi.

As Sonakshi looked for her mobile to call dadi, Dev followed her and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, "please don't leave me Sonakshi," he took her phone and threw it away, so Rehaan-like! He pulled her closer and kissed her tenderly. Memories of his painful childhood and his beloved dadi had made him restless and impatient. Sonakshi was the only one who could pacify his heart.

This was the first time in many years that his past had met with his present. One of the reasons his mind had developed a split personality was his refusal to come to terms with his painful memories. His mind had never acknowledged the painful memories of separation from his mother-like dadi; that denial by his mind had resulted in him developing an alter-ego, a different personality, someone who his subconscious wanted to be but his conscious could not. Was it Sonakshi's love, the music, the beach house, or something else that had helped those painful memories, buried deep in his mind come to the surface, even if transiently? Was this going to be his path to recovery? Was Rehaan going to die and Dev would take charge of his own mind forever?

Sonakshi was moved by his poignant state; she hugged him tightly and reassured him, "main kahin nahin jaa rahi......aap baar baar aisa kyon soch rahe hain? I am all yours."

Dev kissed her bare shoulders with his moist lips and pulled down the straps of her blouse. His kisses soon turned into fervent and passionate kisses; he pressed himself against her body as he pinned her to the wall. It was like Rehaan was back in his wildest form, wanting to possess his beloved, but now as Dev. Dev could not have imagined being so aggressive with Sonakshi, but he could not control himself. Dev's lips traveled down her throat and her cleavage.

Sonakshi was out of breath but pulled away, "nahin please aaj nahin......pehle aap mere parents se bhi mil leejiye...uss din nahin mil paaye the."

Dev came back into his senses; he was embarrassed as he had lost control of himself and had tried to be forceful with her, "I am sorry Sonakshi....I know what you mean.....uss din toh hum behek gaye the.....but now we should follow rules," his usual conservative self took over, he turned around to leave but then paid attention to what she had just said, "mil nahin paaye the parents se? Of course I have met your parents.....tum bhi bhulakkad ho gayi ho.....looks like this house makes people crazy...let's go now.....I have a lot of work to catch up."

Sonakshi adjusted her sari and put her hand on his shoulder, "Kya aapki life mein koi problem hui hai recently? Koi accident? She wanted to find out the reason behind his strange behaviors and comments.

Dev grinned and pinched her nose, "of course.....TUM! YOU ARE THE LOVELY ACCIDENT IN MY LIFE!"

SAMAIRA'S DAY AT COLLEGE:

Samaira and Pia attended classes all morning. Samaira tried her best to stay awake in the classes, but kept dozing off. All the lectures on ragas, lyrics was just too boring for Samaira. She felt sorry for Sonakshi, 'uska dimaag kharaab hai jo yeh sab padhti hai....bas Rehaan se shaadi kar le aur mujhe jaldi se maasi banaa de,' Samaira closed her eyes and dreamt about a cute little baby. The baby would be cute and chubby and Samaira maasi would completely spoil the baby. She would 'accidentally' slip in coke in his milk bottle and then Sonakshi would get upset with her! Samaira started giggling as her daydreams kept her entertained.

"Sonakshi Bose!!!" Professor Mathur, the music teacher yelled at her

Samaira 'woke' up with a jolt, "y..yes sir! Oh....I am sorry," she said in a squeaky voice, hoping that he would not ask her to sing.

"Tumhere gale ko kya hua hai?" he asked

"Sir," she squeaked, "kharaab ho raha hai....doctor ne medicines toh di hai, par usse neend bahut aati hai....iss liye shayad meri aankh lag gayi thi," Samaira looked at the teacher with innocent eyes.

"Accha bahaana dhoonda hai! Tumhari punishment yeh hai ki kal class mein sab ke saamne tumhe Raag Darbari mein ek gaana sunana hoga.....warna samjho tum iss class mein fail ho gayi! UNDERSTAND!" the professor said sternly, trying to ignore the crocodile tears in Samaira's eyes. He had heard Sonakshi sing before; she was really gifted and he was disappointed at her recent change in attitude and behavior.

Samaira almost fainted at the thought of singing in front of the class the next day, and that too a pure classical number! She was not even a bathroom singer; Sonakshi had always excelled in music at home that Samaira had never bothered to even try to sing the sargam!

"Yes sir!" Samaira said obediently, but wondering how she would pull this one off.
Of course, Samaira's clever mind had a solution.

That evening, the sisters updated each other about their day's activities. Sonakshi told her sister about Rehaan's amnesia and how he was just beginning to remember everything. She told her that she would visit dadi the next day and tell her about Rehaan. He was so close to his dadi, and she might be able to help him more than anyone else.

That meant, Samaira would have to definitely attend college again the next day. Samaira dug out her old hand held cassette recorder and sat down next to Sonakshi, "mera ek kaam kar de Sonakshi."

Sonakshi looked at her curiously, "kya? Accha teri class kaisi rahi?"

"That's why I need help stupid! Jaldi se iss cassette mein raag darbari mein yeh record kar de," she gave her the book with the notes.

"What? Aise kaise kar sakti hoon? Maine toh practice bhi nahin kiya hai!" Sonakshi protested.

"Just do it Sonakshi! Warna Professor Mathur tujhe fail kar denge," Samaira explained.

"Fail? Tu kya badmaashi kar rahi thi class mein?" Sonakshi asked

"Madam....you owe me this one....questions mat puch.....jaldi se record kar de," Samaira handed her the cassette and recorder. The door bell rang. Samaira got up to answer. She was pleasantly surprised to see a delivery at the door step- a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a handwritten note. She recognized the handwriting immediately:

Staying away from you is unbearable now....Love you a lot

Yours
Dev

Samaira could not believe her eyes; she smelt the beautiful roses and almost fainted with joy. She arranged the flowers in a vase and danced her way back to her room. Sonakshi was religiously recording the classical piece on the cassette.

Samaira blushed profusely and said to herself, "Sonakshi.....tujhe jitne din Rehaan se milna hai mil le......I love the fact that Dev is missing me......I love you Dev!"
